Update on my g2. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First, this is the thread in question Link
I ended up using this method to unbrick. I can now boot to recovery mode, however, twrp is unresponsive or the touch itself is just off, as in I'll click something, and itll click another thing. I cant swipe to do anything, etc. If the screen goes off, a giant twrp lock pops up asking me to swipe, and I cant really swipe, it's just frozen. For reference, I used this method Link
Any ideas? You guys have been awesome so far, btw. Totally gonna donate if my phone gets back on, regardless .
P.S- My twrp version is 2.6.3.2

I think its stuck, I minds well go and sell it -_-.

Manually boot into recovery?

I've researched it and cannot find a answer. Say if you get stuck in a boot loop and want to flash a nandroid backup or something. The only options I seen with the buttons when the device is off or whatever take you into download mode or a mode that only says factory reset.

On the Verizon model I have TWRP installed and hold power on+volume down and when it says the factory reset I just go ahead through it. The phone still has all your files. It just ends up wiping the OS.
Just my .02 cents because I've been in that position.

So if it wipes the os it leaves the phone in a permanent boot loop therefore not working if you do that, no?

How the hell did you brick it? Give us some more background on what tweaks, root methods, flashing recovery methods did you use or else its hard to diagnose the issue.

ok. i was on stock. rooted with the IO method. wanted to flash a ROM (clean rom). downloaded ROM, wipe dalvik/cache/data. after reboot, phone booted into recovery mode. tried going into download mode to revert back to stock and LG FlashTool failed. said phone was the wrong model number (D802). the ROM i Downloaded said it was for VZW G2. obviously it wasnt. so i finally ended up using fastboot to push boot image and it booted, but in about phone, it says it D802 model (i just got it to boot, where as before i was stuck in fastboot mode). now i need to return to stock, but dont know how. any ideas?

yes. not sure why its doing that. is there any way that download mode can be deleted from the phone? also, how do you get into fastboot mode?
EDIT: nevermind. i finally got it into download mode!! (thank god!!) flashing right now. damn that was a pain in the ass. i was starting to freak out that i messed up my phone. this is my first LG phone so this process is a little new to me (been on moto for the last few years) thanks for trying to help me out. this was def a learning experience.
Phew, I'm glad to hear that. Some day I will be in the same situation

Just a quick question. Why would you even need to go into download mode to flash a Rom? Never once have I done that. Really, just curious.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

I was thinking the same thing. It's best to stay out of those modes. Get a recovery installed ASAP and do everything that you need to do from there. I recommend TWRP Recovery.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Maybe because when flashing stock rom download mode is needed (atleast in my old sammy phone, maybe same in moto phones)
What's wrong with restoring the backup of the stock rom that should have been made before wiping and flashing a different rom? Not sure what I'm missing here.

Download mode is useful to flash the entire phone back to stock using the OEM tools. It's not just for the stock ROM. It's everything. It's useful if you get a bit carried away in TWRP and wipe partitions you really shouldn't be touching. Or if you somehow manage to bork your recovery, or at least can't get into it. It's also good if you want your phone to be completely stock to sell it or to send it in on warranty. I'm sure someone could come up with other scenarios where it's useful.
But yes, it is a good idea to keep a backup of your stock ROM. And as always, know what you're flashing, make sure it's for your phone and check md5s. And be mindful of what you're doing in recovery. You should be able to avoid most issues. Download mode is indeed something you shouldn't be using often but as I said above there are situations where it is useful or necessary. It's actually something I suggest you know how to use. I say it's always a good idea to know how to get back to complete stock for warranty stuff, selling, or if something just goes majorly wrong.
The Rom I was trying to flash was apparently for a different model number, yet it was under the Verizon thread. There was no md5 to cross reference. In the end I ended up finding the proper boot image/twrp files and pushed them via fastboot (since I was unable to use adb) which then allowed more to restore a backup of the original Rom. Just took me all night to finally get back to stock. Then I decided to restore to out-of-the-box stock just to make sure all files weren't corrupted our anything.

You can you adb side load which is the same for flashing rom, pushing, or pulling file from the phone which is the first thing to learn before flashing anything to the new device that you got and know nothing about.

Soft Bricked At&T Lg g2

Hello i have a huge issue with my g2. I flashed carbon rom for my d800 by mistake and now i can only boot into fastboot mode and download mode. Now i have the stock files to return back of course and i followed the guide perfectly but have issues with the flash tool. For whatever reason, it keeps saying "model is different" whenever i put the files in. Because of this, the files never flash and my phone just sits in download mode. If anyone has any idea how to help me out here, i would definetly appreciate it!
Did you flash the AT&T kernel after you flashed the ROM? I forgot and the same thing happened to me. See if you can get to the factory reset menu. Do the factory reset and it'll take you back to recovery if I remember correctly. That's what I did.

Houston did that on purpose so that the roms could be flashed on all devices. And how do you accidentally flash a rom? There are some pretty deliberate steps required to do that. When you tried to boot into recovery, when the LG logo popped up, did you release and repress the buttons, or did you keep holding them? You have to let go of them and immediately repress them to get to the factory reset screen. Once you're there, you follow the prompts to do a factory reset and it will throw you back into recovery instead of resetting the device.
Also, can you see your device in ADB?

Well because after i flashed carbon rom, i wasn't aware that you had to flash an at&t kernel as well hence my issue. Can't use any adb commands since i am stuck at fastboot. I have tried over and over again and i can't reach recovery nor can i reach the factory reset screen.

Stuck in Recovery

Let me start off by saying I apologize if this is posted somewhere already.
Here's my situation. A couple days ago I lgflashed back to stock. All went well. I then rooted and installed TWRP. No issues at all. I didn't take an update, modify the stock ROM or even flash another ROM. Just ran stock rooted. Today, I pick my phone up, go to turn it on and I'm in recovery. No big deal, right? Well I can't get out of TWRP. My backups are still showing, but when I restore it and reboot the phone I'm right back in recovery.
I can't get into download mode either. Not sure what happened and everything was fine earlier in the day. Any thoughts?

As long as you have a ROM on the phone, you should be good to go.

I'm so glad your back up and running again. I've been following your thread. And thanks for sharing the fix.
Does that mean that without your knowledge, your phone may have probably automatically updated itself (OTA) when you left your phone overnight? That's why you were stucked in recovery? Because it seems so odd that you didn't do anything wrong and it suddenly behaved that way. And I have read somewhere here that OTA just installed itself automatically without user intervention. So confusing if that did happen. How is that even possible?

PLEASE someone help me... I cant believe this is happening

Ok so i just bought a new lg g2 d801.
I unlocked it succesfully, then went on to root it succesfully using ioroot.
Then I tried installing twrp using freegee and it didnt work giving me comparable results to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50501346&postcount=867
so I went on to install it manually from terminal emulator (I installed the rogers version as suggested by another user here as this is exactly my situation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50502408&postcount=869
I followed this method for the code in terminal emulator:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recoveryfilename.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
replacing "recoveryfilename" to the name of the rogers .img.
Now the phone just boots normally into the stock interface but it is all glitchy, no wifi, computer doesnt recognize it and then within about 1 minutes it boots into the lg logo with the "turning on" sound randomly and keeps doing that.
adb devices gives nothing. I cant browse the contents of it but it does seem to be interacting with the computer since it is saying "driver updating... etc."
Ahhhh not too sure what to do from here.
If anyone can guide me I will be infinitely grateful, so discouraged right now.
I just want to bring it back to stock, nothing valuable at all on it, I have had it for 4 hours.
U can do a factory reset and see how it goes. Go to settings > general> backup and reset> factory reset.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I cant access any settings.
Just says: Error
In a little black box. I can browse the menus but cant actually enter into the specific settings areas.
I did factory reset from twrp which is accesible, didnt help.
Thank you though, I would love more ideas!
In that case u should flash stock rom using a computer. Go through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476

OK thank god it went through.
Installed the stock recovery succesfully.
Restored factory settings.
Still doing strange boot shutdowns randomly and wifi is not working. I cant access any settings.
It seems like there is rom compatibility issues or something.
What should my next step be?

I followed the procedure exactly as detailed, when I press "upgrade start" I get this:
Please install CSMG B2C Client Tool" "Select tool ->B2C Client setup
Absolutely discouraging. I wish I could just talk with someone right about now. I am making no progress.
Phone keeps turning on all the way through til the homepage then off again. I actually cant keep it off. It turns on by itself.
adb devices is now recognizing it but it says "offline"
Ideas? Recommendations?

I actually didnt even sleep last night. Havent done that in a long time, I figured I would manage to figure out by morning but I was not even close!
Much love to all who helped.
Hopefully this works.:good:
Actually I have a question... In your link they are using .tot files. I have only ever seen .kdz files for this purpose... Am I safe to follow the procedure with a stock .kdz file?
Thanks
Ok so I have managed to succesfully reinstall the original exact videotron firmware that the phone was running just one day ago.
There is something else going on. Its still rebooting every 10 seconds, whenever there is a text input prompt the cursor goes when I press within the box but the keyboard never appears. Wifi is non functional. Imei is saying "null" now whichI find extremely worrying...
Anybody heard of this before? I would really love to understand what is happening to this seemingly incredibly fragile phone.
Im about ready to toss it in the trash.
It seems like it has a virus or something.
Every now and then during the short glimpses of functioning it undergoes, there is a small grey box that appears near the bottom that says error.
It is not recognising my sim card either.
Please somebody help me out, I am willing to pay for help at this point.
Much love,
Zach
Also, I can never close/lock the screen. If I close it, its a guaranteed reboot. Every signle time. so for the phone to work screen has to stay on. 24 hours ago it was showing absolutely no signs of any of this
