Stuck in Recovery - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Let me start off by saying I apologize if this is posted somewhere already.
Here's my situation. A couple days ago I lgflashed back to stock. All went well. I then rooted and installed TWRP. No issues at all. I didn't take an update, modify the stock ROM or even flash another ROM. Just ran stock rooted. Today, I pick my phone up, go to turn it on and I'm in recovery. No big deal, right? Well I can't get out of TWRP. My backups are still showing, but when I restore it and reboot the phone I'm right back in recovery.
I can't get into download mode either. Not sure what happened and everything was fine earlier in the day. Any thoughts?

I should also say that adb doesn't recognize my phone.

I'm back up and running. I used this thread HERE and did the command through TWRP.
As long as you have a ROM on the phone, you should be good to go.

Tried it but it didn't work :\.....
Mine is stuck in fastboot mode whenever I try to reboot it into recovery what files are missing? Anyone know why whenever I reboot it into recovery it boots fastboot instead? Any help would be much appreciated

If you stuck in fastboot mode. Just push
laf file through fastboot to your phone.

I'm so glad your back up and running again. I've been following your thread. And thanks for sharing the fix.
Does that mean that without your knowledge, your phone may have probably automatically updated itself (OTA) when you left your phone overnight? That's why you were stucked in recovery? Because it seems so odd that you didn't do anything wrong and it suddenly behaved that way. And I have read somewhere here that OTA just installed itself automatically without user intervention. So confusing if that did happen. How is that even possible?

HELP! I think I bricked my nexus 7. [SOLVED]

After i tryed flashing kaos droid i think ive managed to brick my nexus 7. It just boots into cwm v6.0.1.0. Ive tryed a number of times holding down the power and the volume buttons together and i CANT get into the bootloader ): . No matter what i do it just boots into the recovery even if i flash another rom it goes back to cwm. I dont know what to do please help? I cant even shut the screen off its been in cwm for over 3 hours now \:
And i was rooted and unlocked before this. Tab was working fine till i flashed kaos droid

Just use recovery to restore your backup.

This is about the 15th post I've seen this week about someone screwing up their n7. If there already isn't one there needs to be a step by step video for the correct way to unlock, root, and flash Roms. I suggest others read heavily before doing any flashing. Its bad enough the boot loader is already screwy.
The toolkit does everything for you. All in one method and you're done.
I'm sure its his .img

I had this problem happen with my Xoom.
Boot into the bootloader from recovery. There should be an option to do so.
In the bootloader flash a different recovery.
Then reinstall your ROM. It should boot.
If that doesn't work I would suggest flashing the stock images in fastboot and starting over.

I had a similar problem on my og evo. Try seeing if you can flash the recovery from a computer while booted into cwm. Then it'll reboot into new recovery, you flash rom, and you stop sharding your pants

Even choosing "reboot bootloader" in recovery?
If that doesn't work, connect to you your computer and using adb type the command
Code:
adb reboot bootloader

I dont have a reboot bootloader option but when i go to reboot system it goes straight into cwm like i said.
Also fastboot/adb is not working. When i run a command it says "waiting for device" on my computer

On a side note, i had tryed everything i formated the sd in cwm and now it appears on cwm as if theres "No files found" but on my computer everything i had previously is still there.
So there is a connection to the storage part of the device but not adb or fastboot

Hmmm. You should have a working adb while booted into a custom recovery. Are your drivers installed correctly?
Also, the reason why you computer sees the files is because with mtp it caches the files.

OP will stop making threads like this if people stop recommending toolkits......................
And definition of brick is beyond repair - unable to boot up, e.g. Black screen when power button is pressed, not even the Google screen.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?

Well it was beyond repair for the moment being if i did NOT have access to adb, fastboot, nor the Bootloader i said that three times already.
But whatever i finally got adb to work and was able to fastboot flash a stock image. Thank you so much el daddy for your help i really appreciate it.

Sorry I wasn't trying to bust your stones. I haven't rooted yet because of all of the posts like yours. I've just seen more problems with flashing on this device then any other that I have with my past Droid devices. What we really need is apx (spelling?) Drivers and n7 files for a sure fire recovery from any disaster
Hopefully I don't have to start another thread.
I too think I bricked my Nexus 7.
I was having trouble and I accidentally cleared a file from the System UI app (its a system required app) which caused me to loose the 3 buttons on the bitten of the screen.
So I went to CWM to do a restore which said it failed.
After that it would not boot.
Its just stuck with the Google logo on the screen.
I held down the power up & down volume buttons and I get a screen that gives me that START button on the top right of the screen with the text in small size on the bottom left.
I can use the up and down volume to make the start button change to recovery mode or bootloader but activating them just goes to Google logo.
Can I recover or is it totally lost?
I also don't remember if I left the Nexus 7 in Debug mode which is usually required to perform custom Roms
Thanks
Rob

Tried that too - my fear is that I may have somehow replaced that bootloader with TWRP, therefore there seems to be no way to load System. Man, I hope there is a solution to this. No way I can try and return it in this state.

You may find help there.
UPDATE: So the issue was a misset flag in misc, meaning that the phone can only boot into recovery. This happened when you used the hardware keys to boot into recovery. Usually you could fix this with adb, but adb in the current G2 build of TWRP wasn't working.
So, until ADB works in recovery again, don't try to flash it!

I don't see you making it to twrp without a boot loader, but did you possibly check anything besides recovery in flashify?
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk 4
That's is what happens if you format system. Did you make a back up in TWRP? If system had not been formatted then perhaps factory reset us a good option.
First I would force a hard reboot by holding power button until it turns off.

Devs are working on diagnosing and repairing the issue. The only other viable solution is the flash back to stock, which you said didn't work for you.
Similar predicament
im also stuck at TWRP but i do have access to adb and adb sideload
i was wondering if it would be possible to sideload an TWRP from someone who had a working G2

Has anyone managed to actually use TWRP on G2?

I've got stuck in boot loop twice in a row after spending hours restoring phone with different method. Maybe I should have learned my lesson not to touch TWRP. Has anyone backedup and restored without a problem? Is there a way I can fix this issue without starting all over again?

Ive backed up and restored twice now with no problems, did you completely wipe and factory reset? You have to do it in that order.
I forgot, and just restored. But that shoulnd't cause bootloops. Ive used TWRP before on gnexus. what did you learn from your first bootloop error? I saw you had many posts. What have you changed to fix that ?

This isnt the Gnex, i know what you mean, this phones recovery method doesnt work the same as the nexus.
I learned this from other people's trial and error actually from this very g2 forum. With this device it requires a complete wipe and then a factory reset.otherwise boot loops will occur.

in your experience, has how you flashed TWRP mattered? What about how you booted into recovery? I recall you bricked not trying to restore. is wiping the only thing you changed to prevent the boot loop?

Yes, ive had one bootloop from using TWRP but a full wipe and FR resolved this issue. I did brick once by taking the verizon OTA while having TWRP. But that was a month ago and I tried to restore from my backup to no avail though. This was fixed by the devs. Anyway bottom line when I ran into bootloop issues I just did this methodology and it worked, its def different from how we use TWRP on the Gnex.
Is this what your asking about or no?
I ran into the same problem but fixed it using the method in "go back to stock" thread. The mistake I made was that I chose to format my internal storage in the wipe menu so i couldn't restore either lol.

HELP!!!!

Not sure exactly what I did but I had installed a stock rom and while using the rom I got a software update. I tried to install the update and it said phone will reboot so I rebooted it. It took me to my recovery (Philz Touch recovery) then I attempted to reboot my phone but now it just keeps going back to recovery and wont go any further. I've tried to install another rom but it still goes right back to recovery after I reboot. Please someone help me out here. I'm pretty I'm not bricked but cant figure out what to do to get to my phone. I'm thinking I need to restore my phone back to factory and start again.

Rule #1. NEVER INSTALL OTA UPDATES IF YOURE ROOTED!
Just saw your other thread. If you are not confident using adb just get yourself an otg cable, put twrp on a memory stick, mount the otg in philz and flash twrp from the memory stick. You can then use the terminal in twrp.
PS. A micro usb drive would work just as well.

If you haven't already, you can get SuperSU from the Play store and I believe it should tell you if you're not rooted (you'll likely need it anyway if you are rooted). You can also get a root checker app from the play store, or if you have an app that has root functions (like es explorer), you can open it and try to enable them.

Sorry about forgetting this earlier, but I should have remembered if you're using quick reboot successfully, then that pretty much would mean you're rooted.

So it looks like the red triangle is the stock recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39315483&postcount=5
Sorry, but I never keep stock recovery, so I guess that's why I didn't notice.
So you're probably going to want to flash TWRP recovery so you can actually take advantage of your modded MOJO. Flashify is the easiest method to do this without a computer. You can also backup your stock recovery with Flashify so you can return you're MOJO to it's original state at some point.
Here's where you can find TWRP recovery:

Just download the zip file to your MOJO, backup your original recovery in Flashify, then flash TWRP recovery with Flashify. You should then be able to boot into recovery. The towelroot/Flashify method is what I used, so I expect it to work fine for you.
Even if something goes south, the MOJO is a great device to screw around and learn about root stuff as you can't really brick it. You're always just a male to male USB plug away from fastboot resurrection.

It shouldn't. The only thing I can think of that would make your MOJO lose root is if you flash one of unjustified's roms (other than cyanogenmod) without flashing the SuperSU zip immediately after.

Hmm, I seem to remember that happening to me once, and then when I opened Flashify before clicking on the TWRP zip, it worked. Have you opened Flashify, and if so, did a SuperSU permissions request popup?

Ok so it all worked, I install cyanmod but didn't like it, now I can't get rid of it, I can't root now either, I'm in a right state

In that case, you should be able to enable root in the CyanogenMod settings under developer options as stated here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63238624&postcount=273
And then you can flash the stock MOJO rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mad-catz-mojo/general/stock-rom-mojo-please-help-t3040895
Alternatively, if you previously made a backup of your stock MOJO rom in TWRP, then you can flash that instead.
Your a genius thanks
