Hello i have a huge issue with my g2. I flashed carbon rom for my d800 by mistake and now i can only boot into fastboot mode and download mode. Now i have the stock files to return back of course and i followed the guide perfectly but have issues with the flash tool. For whatever reason, it keeps saying "model is different" whenever i put the files in. Because of this, the files never flash and my phone just sits in download mode. If anyone has any idea how to help me out here, i would definetly appreciate it!
Did you flash the AT&T kernel after you flashed the ROM? I forgot and the same thing happened to me. See if you can get to the factory reset menu. Do the factory reset and it'll take you back to recovery if I remember correctly. That's what I did.

What is weird is that the flash tool see it as "G2" Not d800 or d802 or anything just G2

Houston did that on purpose so that the roms could be flashed on all devices. And how do you accidentally flash a rom? There are some pretty deliberate steps required to do that. When you tried to boot into recovery, when the LG logo popped up, did you release and repress the buttons, or did you keep holding them? You have to let go of them and immediately repress them to get to the factory reset screen. Once you're there, you follow the prompts to do a factory reset and it will throw you back into recovery instead of resetting the device.
Also, can you see your device in ADB?

Well because after i flashed carbon rom, i wasn't aware that you had to flash an at&t kernel as well hence my issue. Can't use any adb commands since i am stuck at fastboot. I have tried over and over again and i can't reach recovery nor can i reach the factory reset screen.

no replies yet...that's very sad..
If you can get to the recovery screen try wiping and factory reset.and flash a different rom. If that doesn't work. You can always do the unroot method by using the smping.mbh file or something like that. Look up how to unroot in google and you should know what I mean. Hope this helps

Well then you need to unroot your mytouch it basically puts it back in factory settings and you do it through fast boot. I'm guessing you have the original mytouch this how I did it

You don't need to get in recovery screen. Turn the phone off and hold the up volume button and the power button and fast boot the sapping.nbh file
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
What I did is:
Through fastboot I flashed SAPPIMG.nbh. It put my phone to the cupcake (1.5). Then I installed rooted HTC 1.6 update. After that I flashed any Rom I wanted.
Tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=586363
PS: This is the only working way I know since I am a noob too and finally got it going. Tried almost every rom in this section

okay done!thats very helpfull lucas...seems i tried to reboot wrongly...insted of pressing the volume up button,i pressed the down button...my bad! luckily the original stock rom is ok!so i dont need to restore to factory settings...now the only thing i had to do is,just update the cupcake to eclairs... now i have to read very2 carefully i think..coz there is alot of ways to root n update...hemm...which u suggest easier lucas??thanks alot dude...
You're very welcome. this method had saved my phone from being bricked like a hundred times.if the g2 had a fail safe like that I would of already rooted it. Glad I could help

yo lucas...sorry for the late reply..now the phone had the same problem again...i just tried to do recovery using ROM manager..but after it saves everything and reboot and the splash screen looping continuosly again..damn it..it's my 2n tiime now..grrrr!!i tried ur method n it didn't work...n seems there is alot of people with this same problem when i tried to search around..seems there is no better solutions yet for this "semi-brickd" problems..
So you can't put it back to stock? If you manage to get it back to stock by doing the same thing you did beforev you should try using a different recovery. aman-ra's recovery is the best for me. But I can't see how you can't get into the fastboot screen by pressing power and volume up,that's never failed for me. If its really impossible you should have tmobile replace it. I don't think they can tell you hacked it if they can't even get into fastboot.sorry if I took long to answer

okay the first phone was my fault. after doing the root process with moto chopper and loki found on android root site I forgot to read the steps required for the wicked ROM. I jump straight to the ROM install but after finishing the install it ask to reboot. Then it vibrates like it is trying to boot up but I never get any video. I tried the reboot recovery button commands but that no longer worked and neither did the hard reset button commands.
luckily walmart exchange that phone for another so then I go home I root the phone and follow the install option for wicked ROM. then the second phone reboots and I get the same vibrating pulses but hard reset works now except it hangs up on the downloading screen. this morning I return the second phone for the third phone but now I'm too scared to try the ROM again because they are not going to let me get another phone.

Loki recovery which was successful each time. 2nd time i Reboot recovery, Wipe data factory reset, Wipe cache, Wipe dalvik cache, then installed rom zip from ext sdcard.
Some settings afterwards i was a little unsure of but selected what fit a att phone.

So you not only committed fraud by pretending you hadn't broken the phone and voided the warranty yourself, but you also straight-up lied about how long you had had the phone?
On top of that, I'd be willing to bet the phones weren't hard-bricked and were actually recoverable.
That's pretty despicable.

This should be stickied with a big banner telling users they need to READ BEFORE FLASHING! or Else this could be you.
Hello everyone,
I recently tried to flash a kernel and it seems that it was a corrupted download or something of the sorts and no whenever my phone powers on, the phone sits on a black screen and just vibrates. I have gotten into download mode and ODIN'd it with the stock image but it put me right back at the same thing. Has anyone else had this issue and if so can itt be fixed?
Thanks in advance!
It would help to know what device you have, what firmware you where on and what kernel you tried to flash

After odin says sucessful, you have to remove the battery cause it will be stuck stuck on the download screen and go into recovery and factory reset the phone and it should boot right up.I dont think your phone is hard-bricked if you was able to use odin.

yeah i have done the samething. i went from stock rooted and had cyanogenmod 10 successfully downloaded and running one night. The next morning i installed ktoonsez kernel 100% certain it was for my cyano and everything i was running and its 90% hard bricked. The only thing i can do is get it into odin mode. Ive also flashed my att ucuamdl file with odin to try and reset it and it has said successful. The only thing i had checked was t ime reset and reboot. So i pulled the battery to try and fire it back up and nothing happens but a black screen and a little vibration. Kind of pisses me of since im not the only one who has had this happen. If you can get into odin mode flash the mdl file again but make sure you have nothing ticked such as the f rest time or auto boot. And once you done pull out your usb cord and it should still say downloading on the screen. So pull the battery and then place it back in but dont boot up go into recovery what i do to get in recovery is hold the volume up,power and home button until i see the recovery booting sign at the top left corner then i let go off the power button and hold the volume up and home button until it boots into recovery.but when you go into recovery it will download the install the mdl file so you might have to do the recovery part twice after it installs the file then factory reset your phone and it should boot right up.

ok. i was on stock. rooted with the IO method. wanted to flash a ROM (clean rom). downloaded ROM, wipe dalvik/cache/data. after reboot, phone booted into recovery mode. tried going into download mode to revert back to stock and LG FlashTool failed. said phone was the wrong model number (D802). the ROM i Downloaded said it was for VZW G2. obviously it wasnt. so i finally ended up using fastboot to push boot image and it booted, but in about phone, it says it D802 model (i just got it to boot, where as before i was stuck in fastboot mode). now i need to return to stock, but dont know how. any ideas?

yes. not sure why its doing that. is there any way that download mode can be deleted from the phone? also, how do you get into fastboot mode?
EDIT: nevermind. i finally got it into download mode!! (thank god!!) flashing right now. damn that was a pain in the ass. i was starting to freak out that i messed up my phone. this is my first LG phone so this process is a little new to me (been on moto for the last few years) thanks for trying to help me out. this was def a learning experience.
Phew, I'm glad to hear that. Some day I will be in the same situation

Just a quick question. Why would you even need to go into download mode to flash a Rom? Never once have I done that. Really, just curious.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

I was thinking the same thing. It's best to stay out of those modes. Get a recovery installed ASAP and do everything that you need to do from there. I recommend TWRP Recovery.

Maybe because when flashing stock rom download mode is needed (atleast in my old sammy phone, maybe same in moto phones)
What's wrong with restoring the backup of the stock rom that should have been made before wiping and flashing a different rom? Not sure what I'm missing here.

Download mode is useful to flash the entire phone back to stock using the OEM tools. It's not just for the stock ROM. It's everything. It's useful if you get a bit carried away in TWRP and wipe partitions you really shouldn't be touching. Or if you somehow manage to bork your recovery, or at least can't get into it. It's also good if you want your phone to be completely stock to sell it or to send it in on warranty. I'm sure someone could come up with other scenarios where it's useful.
But yes, it is a good idea to keep a backup of your stock ROM. And as always, know what you're flashing, make sure it's for your phone and check md5s. And be mindful of what you're doing in recovery. You should be able to avoid most issues. Download mode is indeed something you shouldn't be using often but as I said above there are situations where it is useful or necessary. It's actually something I suggest you know how to use. I say it's always a good idea to know how to get back to complete stock for warranty stuff, selling, or if something just goes majorly wrong.
The Rom I was trying to flash was apparently for a different model number, yet it was under the Verizon thread. There was no md5 to cross reference. In the end I ended up finding the proper boot image/twrp files and pushed them via fastboot (since I was unable to use adb) which then allowed more to restore a backup of the original Rom. Just took me all night to finally get back to stock. Then I decided to restore to out-of-the-box stock just to make sure all files weren't corrupted our anything.

Not for nothing, but I ran the LG flash tool without putting the phone in download mode and it worked fine.

I sent you a pm
You can you adb side load which is the same for flashing rom, pushing, or pulling file from the phone which is the first thing to learn before flashing anything to the new device that you got and know nothing about.

check this thread out. I had the same thing.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
this reverts you completely back to stock. You will lose all your data but you did back up regularly, right?
(edit) you only have to hold the volume UP key while plugging in the USB on a D801 to get into download mode.
Make sure you've disconnected usb when attempting to enter recovery. Hope the silence means you've sorted it out!

i felt like going back to stock from (was on cm11 nightlie) so i went on flashify and for some reason i tried restoring twrp and when it rebooted it messed it up bad -.-
I am able to get into TWRP to flash a ROM. I have tried the Stock Sprint Root ZV8 and it just reboots into TWRP. I was unable to get it to work with the LG Flash Tools.

If you're trying to unpack the ROM try redownloading the rom.
You're saying that you have CM installed? I had this exact problem and I had PA installed.. it was a mess. I had to sideload the original ROM because to flash with that program your build.prop has to be the original information when you received the phone or else the program will throw a "different phone model"
Do you have the LG usb drivers? Install all proper USB drivers and try to sideload an original ROM.
BTW do you have any backups? Restoring also gets you out of this mess
never mind i opened the wrong folder thanks for everything guys it worked perfectly ^.^

In case you don't know, you can supposedly get rid of it by displaying an all-white screen (with display brightness turned down to preserve bulb life).
