VPN issue 4.4.2 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a no brand galaxy s4 and lasy week I did OTA update to 4.4.2.
I noticed a vpn issue: when i try to connect to vpn pptp at work, the phone establish connection but no data is routed from /to the phone.
I tried to change username and password, even on the router at work, but it's always the same.
I read on the Google forum that it's a known bug from last November but I've never seen a solution. Some people tells that it's a bug in kitkat where mss/mtu are set too high to make vpn connection work.
Please can anyone help me?
Thank you
Alex

[Q] Problem to find WiFi with Realtek RTL8191SU access point

I have a problem with the Transformer and WiFi:
With a Netgear router the Transformer connects immediately without any problems, but if I use an USB WiFi pendrive Realtek RTL8191SU connected to my pc in access point mode with the sharing of Internet connectivity, the EeePad Transformer does not see the WiFi network and thus is unusable. Other smartphone that I have like the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC 7 Mozart see the WiFi network ...
... Possible solutions?
Thanks.
For some reason the transformer comes with us channel limitation even in the rest of the world. Try using a lower channel in your access point.

Wifi autentication problem

Since today my galaxy note 3 stopped to work with my home wifi connection. Every time i try to connect it disconnects afterwards. How is that possibile ? No change in settings. The Strange thing is That Even the galaxy tab 3 can't connect to my wifi! I guessed That my wifi had problems.. but Why is it strange? Because my Ipad mini still connect and the connection is lightning fast. Can someone enlight me about this Strange Samsung device behavior?

I don't know, man. I have more problems with WiFi on my Note 3 than I have ever had on any device, bar none.
This link is from T-Mobile on Wifi problems, I hope it helps you. The forgetting Network worked for me. If you wireless router has dual band 2.4ghz and 5ghz switching to 5ghz and that seems to work better.
What I did was to keep both 2.4 and 5. I put 5ghz first then if falls over it picks up the 2.4ghz signal. So far so good.

Hi,
wifi hotspot on 5ghz band fails to start / still invisibile to other devices.
It works well on 2,4ghz.

I'va tried resetting network settings in both smartphone and PC, no way. Already Tried the DUN trick too via adb.

Edit : ok so I launched a software to analyze my WiFi network and I found something interesting : when I changed my 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz the software find my hotspot for like 1 or 2 seconds and then it disappears.
having the same issue. happend on OOS 9.0.6 and also 9.0.7. really annoying because my old OP3 is working with 5ghz Wifi Hotspot..
having this issue too!
as you describe hotspot on 2.4ghz is no problem, but when I switch it to 5 ghz and enable it, it's not discoverable/connectable....
+1 have the same issue, even not visible on my notebook
currently I'm on:
9.0.12
rooted - Magisk in place - NO twrp
elemental x kernel
problem still exists for me...

Netflix not working after pie update

I updated my phone to android 9 pie yesterday and when I tried opening Netflix it started giving error messages such as restart the app. After restarting the app the message changes to restart the device which also didn't work. I cleared all the data after force closing the app but to no avail. I then uninstalled Netflix and tried to reinstall it but guess what it didn't show up on play store. I then tried googling for Netflix app and from there I opened the play store link which showed that Netflix is not compatible with my device.
I contacted Netflix they said Netflix app is not compatible with latest android which I think is not correct as one of my friend is using Netflix on android pie device. Let me know if anyone else is also facing this issue.
I've just tried it on my phone. First run gave me some "device error" and app closed. When I opened it again, I logged in and am able to play a movie without problems. I'm rooted with Magisk and hiding Magisk from Netflix, not sure if it makes any difference.
Download and install it from apkmirror.com
For me, it does not work anymore in wifi at home (fttc, about 33 mb/s), but it works on 4g and even 3g, and it works at a friend's place with WiFi (connection fttc about 80 mb/s). Amazon prime video, Italian Infinity TV and other streaming services do work properly.

Same here. Got error 'device error' a few times. Then the app restarted and I had to login again. Then it worked.
I guess it is their DRM that gets confused about Android getting an update.
No problem at all in my Mi A1, unrooted with stock android

It seems to be dependent on the network. For me, at home the Netflix app displays its content, but as I try to watch a movie it is stuck forever, and is OK in 4g. If, from the preferences, I test the network, it says that "Netflix Android Server" is unreachable (OK in 4g). From the WiFi at work, everything is OK. From a friend's WiFi, it's OK. Of course all other streaming video app I have (e.g. Amazon Prime Video) work correctly everywhere. It seems to be a problem where local network configuration and provider play a role.
At home, I should try to connect to the network via an USB-Ethernet adapter (I have one which work with Android) and see what happens: if it works, it is a WiFi problem, otherwise it's a problem with the router or the provider.
Another thing to do would be to observe the actual (attempted) exchange between the phone and this "Netflix Android Server" using some network analyzer, and see what happens.

right now i'm having a chat with the netflix customer service. they are trying to figure it out too.
seems funny, because i have flashed back to stock oreo, used the same wifi, and loaded netflix. no problem.
i used pixel experience rom, same wifi, no problem too.
i revert back to stock January pie update, and it just wont log me in. if i use 4g to login, it will be stuck when loading the video stream,
add MSS clamping to the router settings

Hi
I also upgraded my mobile from 8.1 to 9 with january patch and saw that netflix no longer working when over WiFi. So i searched over Internet and saw somewhere a post saying we should enable MSS clamping in the router, i Think this was on a DD-WRT forum.
I have a Ubiquity ER-X as soon as i enabled this on my router netflix worked again. So have a look at the router settings
nevertheless something changed indeed in the System of Android Pie that messes up probably the TCP protocol
Hope this helps you also

HEY GUYS I THINK OUR VOICES HAVE BEEN HEARD!
after tirelessly searching the internet to this exact problem i have been facing, someone has brought up this issue to the devs at Google, it was something in Android P causing this problem with WiFi.
here you guys can read about the details here, not only Mi devices are affected, other android one devices also do too.
https://piunikaweb.com/2019/01/16/n...phone-with-wifi-android-pie-could-be-culprit/
so i guess we can wait for a update fix soon
Lowering the MTU size from 1488 (the default) to 1480 on my router appeared to "solve" the problem almost instantly.
For reference, I followed the steps detailed both in How to find the proper MTU size on D-Link router? and in the user manual, which boil down to:
Run ping to determine the maximum packet size by trial and error:
Code:
ping -f -l size
. In my case, the optimal size was 1460.
Determine the MTU size as packet size + 28 = 1460 + 28 = 1488.
Set a sligthly lower MTU value in the router configuration.

Apps aint working without VPN after PIE ?

Hi everyone, today i got an official OTA update(Pie, jan 5 security patch) for my MiA1. Soon i realized that my facebook and instagram apps were not refreshing. I tried to login through chrome browser but that didn't work. I could use facebook messenger and whatsapp however i cant send any photo/video through any of them.
HOWEVERR, after connecting through a vpn app everything works fine. Sites open, apps work. I have tried switching wifi networks but same problem. Anyone else facing the same issue? Plz help
P.s phone is unrooted, upgraded to pie through OTA update( no vpn method used)
Apps like youtube etc sometimes work without vpn and sometimes dont
Netflix too.

Tried, but no success ?
Finally got the issue fixed by tweaking some router settings. I changed the MTU vakue to 1492 and everything started working perfectly after that ??
