My proxmity sensor and gyrometer die out randomly and only a reboot fixes them. not sure what to do? logcat shows errors but im not sure on what they mean. Anyone have this problem before?

My proximity sensor died a month ago, it is a known defect of the early batch of these phones and resulted me in getting a warranty replacement

used *#0*# menu to test the magnetic sensor; selftest failed. Compass apps are WAY off. its also reading 270-280T in field strength across several apps. I can recalibrate it (mag field strength detected) via one app, but the compass itself is off by about 85 degrees. I have not exposed it to strong magnetic radiation, stuck it in a microwave, or anything like that.
warranty repair/replace?
Also gyro won't calibrate and lists failed as well

Mine also shows fail on both tests but my compass is dead on.

my compass started working correctly again, but still says fail, and gyro says it needs calibration, which it now does calibrate, but still says fail
this is via the same menu system.
How can you tell if your compass is working

compass/magneto apps now correctly report 47-51t (magnetic field scale) and i tested it with another magnetometer, also tested the compass feature through several apps against a real compass, as well as gyro calibration against a sextant (yes i actually have one lol, had to learn how to use it though first) it is calibrated correctly to within 1/2 of a degree; good enough for now.
I have no idea how/why it fixed itself, but the sensor tests still report 'failed', so its going back regardless.

would at&t be a better option to pursue, or samsung? i dont want a refurb, so leaning towards at&t. i haven't had to return a phone for warranty ever, and i dont want a refurb or repair. i take excellent care of my stuff; other than the sensor issue its perfect.

I called Samsung a few days ago they said they would work on fixing my phone instead of swapping it out with a refurb, i told the lady i didn't want a refurb since i've had my phone in a case with a screen protector since day one. She was intent them working specifically on my phone but I'm still a little eh on that because back in the s2 days i got a refurb with a huge scratch on the screen when they said the exact samething. AT&T is willing to look at what is wrong with the and if they deem its not fixable they are going to swap it out with a new phone which is great. If you choose the Samsung option it take 2-3 days for them to receive it 5-7 days to fix it and 2-3 more days to send it back yet. They won't do Advanced Replacement either. Im just sad because my phone hasnt had any problems like the severe shutter lag or the over heating so hopefully when i get the new phone tomorrow there wont be something else wrong with it. $5 it has a dead pixel knowing my luck
I had the same issue when using a non-stock ROM/kernel. As soon as I went back to stock the problem went away.

samsung galaxy s4 i337 not good
My Nexus 4 suffered extensive water damage last week and stopped working completely. The technician replaced the power IC and it started working. However, there was still water left in the screen, rendering some parts of it useless and causing ghost touches. I got the screen replaced yesterday and its working fine now.
As of now, the flash isn't working. It's probably screwed because of the water damage. The main concern however is the fact that the screen won't rotate to landscape mode. I'm on CM11 and have checked auto-rotate but still no luck. Please suggest a way to get both these working again!

It happened last week when I was in Mumbai! Got the IC changed at Indraprasth in Borivali. Cost me 3k for that. And then got the screen replaced yesterday here in Bangalore. That cost me 5k.It turned out to be a very expensive trip for me man.. :crying:
I'm guessing the water must have messed up the sensors too, try re calibrating them and see if they respond, if not then I'm sorry I pity you man!
Hey guys,
I am a new member here though I was following XDA when I had my Samsung galaxy 2.
Thank you all!:good:
My story with this issue started more then 6 months ago, few weeks after I got my new OnePlus 2 it's fingerprint stopped responding.
I was happy to find out OnePlus have support and I contacted them.
After they did a remote they said the device needs to be replaced.
Unfortunately they didn't do as promised and just 'fixed' it.
A week after it stopped working again.
I can't add fingerprints at all
The sensor is not responsive at all
*#808# finger print test results pass. the 2nd test there have two words in green Chinese symbols that change on the screen when you click them. Touching the sensor in these two tests do nothing.
OnePlus creating me another RMA but I don't trust them.
Can you please help me identify if it's hardware problem and I must replace it or I can use your help and forums to fix it with some other ROM/kernel or any magical fix?
Any help would be appreciated,
thanks! :fingers-crossed:
You're sensor pass then I guess must be software issue, try clearing cache, fully discharge and charge

Hey guys,
My Oneplus 5 is working fine without issues but when I make a phone call and have the phone up to my face on almost every call the speaker phone ends up going on by itself. I think this is because the screen is turning on even though the phone is up to my face which would probably be the proximity sensor. It might be worth noting that i use the phone on my left ear as I am a lefty. Is anyone else having this problem and does anyone know a solution to this problem?
Thanks!

Are you using a screen protector that covers the sensor?

No I'm not using anything but a cheap gel back protector.
I have the same problem. But I thought the screen was turning on because of double tap to wake .
Same issue here, I even started a thread about it weeks ago. Seems like there must be a dodgy batch of sensors.
I'm going to send mine back under warranty once I can get my 6o back from my daughter so I have a backup phone.

I have the same issue. I used *#808# to check whether the Proximity sensor is working as it should. And it does. For me it more looks like a software issue
Had the screen replaced on my MiA1 recently.
Initially when I got it back the fingerprint sensor worked, but seemingly not as well as it had. I put it down to the hot weather. Now, 3days later it's not working at all
Could this be related to the screen repair? (Assuming yes), if so, is it a fix I can do myself out do I need to try argue it out with the shop?
