Am supposed to get my Note 3 late tomorrow. Ordered an Unlocked N9005 version. I presume it will not come with 4.4 but something earlier.
Based on my reading here I'm a bit confused. Do I need to make sure I root before I take any OTA update? Or take the update first? Anything I need to do or be careful not to do on first boot?
Thanks in advance...
You should wait to see with what firmware it will arrive first, then based on that, you'll find out if you can root it without tripping knox!
Or if you don't care about your warranty, you can update ota and after that, root it with cf-root!

hi,
i got my n9005 (quad core, 32gb, sadly simlocked[provider]) today.
Yet i did not do anything to it, not even boot it.
I don't wanna screw anything up for later.
I want to make a complete backup of it and root it without tripping knox flag.
I read about auto root from chainfire but since that trips knox flag i cannot choose that.
Then I came across Root de la Vega from designgears and chainfire that does not trip knox flag
but as i understand it, it will not work on n9005 since i dont see my device being mentioned,
so what choice do i have now?
Can I power on the device now anyways just to ota or would that be bad (before a complete backup)?
Thanks
Please help me out here
You need to establish what firmware version you have first, take a look in the settings, what version off firmware do you have?

Even if i can root with URdlV 0.2, can i still remove provider simlock without tripping knox?
Somehow i get the impression i might be better off chainfireing it with autoroot after i flashed official unlocked german stock 4.3 over the current os. Triangleaway might come out in the next months so i can undo the knox trigger. Otherwise i might wait ages until i can use this phone...cos of the provider sim lock..
Thx
Do NOT update FW if you going to RDLV. MJ3 has new locked bootloader so you have to root first, then modify update FW.
Odinary carrier sim lock doesn't matter..
Read RDLV thread carefully again..
Sim lock has nothing to do with FW as long it's from same region and not special carrier locked bootloader

Ok, i will not update stock fw!
Why doesn't provider lock matter and what bootloader do i have? I read everyone writing mj3 blabla but where do u actually see what i got.
My stock fw was 4.3 when i got the phone and i never changed anything

Every Note 3 firmware is 4.3 until 4.4 kitkat arrives.
Find out your fw by settings/general/about phone, bottom line. If it has not .....MJ3, .....MJ6, ......MJ7 yet, your bootloader is not locked and you can RDLV.
If you're not gonna use the knox program, go for CF-autoroot instead.
Edit. Didn't see yor post above you said XXUBMI7. Do not update yet couse you have an early fw and can use RDLV
You clearly have some reading to do about firmwares and rooting etc..

Yea, its weird cos it says MI and nowhere mJ but everyone mentions it.
What about the provider lock?
Where can i read up on all that important info and esp. The No-No's?

?? ...MI7 is your current fw. Newer update fw's: ....MJ3-7, you can download from sammobile.com and flash manually by software "Odin" later after if you wish to root.
If not rooted, you can get these updates OTA.
Read the RDLV thread to learn about that rooting method first. Search around in Note 3 forums for answers.
Sim-lock has nothing to do with this at all. You can not unlock sim by rooting.
You can remove sim lock if you buy special dial code at some web sites. You give them your IMEI and pay them for the unlocking code. Thats all I know about that.

Hi, I needed some questions to be answered before I set out to rooting journey on my Note 3.
1) if I root my Note 3 in the way where it will not trip the Knox counter, will I still be able to update to KitKat via OTA update?
Thanks for replying and helping always

After root OTA updates are not available. But Kies download should be available. Still waiting for new Update to test it. If you want root without triping knox best is to keep old bootloader and use root de la vega. I hope hadn't done update to actual firmware. Also keep in mind the updates are an oneway road. You can't downgrade firmware version, or if you keept old boot-loader with a lot of trouble. Problem for KitKat you need new bootloader.

So some additional comments:
Which Firmware Version have you on your Note 3?
I used root de la vega http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498850.
It's confirmed to working till MJ1 without tripping knox.
You can read my thread there I have written down my experiences. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592203
Like I told you OTA is not working, but you can download firmware viva Kies, disconnect device before flashing and copy firmware from temp folder(so you have a official firmware).
Still waiting for new update so I can test.
The firmware you can flash with Mobile Odin Pro to keep root(and normal odin for boot-loader if needed).
You could also unroot your device and make OTA update, but after what you have unrooted KitKat and you will trip Knox to root again.
I read Root de la Vega is no longer supported, so what is the ideal method? I just got my new replacement Note 3 from Verizon.
The ROM I am going to flash says "It is Recommended to have flashed the latest 4.3MJE Stock Firmware Tar", how can I accomplish this?
I'm also not trying to trip KNOX.
Shouldn't this be posted here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/help
I would like to upgrade my aging N7000 to an N9005 but not without doing the proper reading first. Unfortunately all the reading also confused me more then it resolved my questions. My main Question is what would be a good Firmware to look for on a Note 3 before buying it. Regarding not trying to trip Knox. (If it turns out to be too much of a pain I will survive tripping that flag and living with a preexisting condition. )
I gave up searching for a black 64GB Note 3. They seem to exist but are harder to come by then a Ghost. Am I correct to assume that de la Vega Root only works on pre 4.2.2.Firmwares? For CF Root are there any prefered Firmwares?
I know it is usually hard to check the Firmware when they are still brand new and packaged but there are lots of customer returns at local Media Markt’s. Besides the ones that have been upgraded to 4.3 there are some with 4.2.2 N9005XXUENA2 on it. Do you think I should keep searching for a older one or rather go online and find a used one which has never been update? Or does it really not matter? Still enjoying Paranoid Android on my Note 1. Or is there a good reasons to wait a little longer?
Media Markt Switzerland is selling the Samsung Galaxy Note N9005 32GB for CHF 599.- = $680 which is not a bad price. MSRP in Switzerland is CHF 768.- = $872 (Customer Returns would go for about CHF 50.- = $56 cheaper)
Any thoughts on this? Or any additional reading material that I should not miss? Any hints and tips are greatly appreciated.

For Note 3 there seem to be no firmware before 4.3.
For Knox and N9005 you really want any firmware BEFORE 4.3 MJ3. I have seen reports that you can still work with some post-mj3 if you are in Canada/Mexic and you have the N900W8.

If you prefer to keep knox cool for warranty then find the one with old firmware lower than MJ4 as it's still possible to root and keeps warranty. But maybe not easy to find it.
The first note 3 firmware is MJ1 which is 4.3(there is no 4.2.2). 4.4.2 starts with NA6. So far not possible to root 4.4.2 without tripping knox.

Thanks guys you made one thing clear that I can not read correctly. lol For some odd reason 4.4.2 looked to me like 4.2.2. My misstake but atleast that clears up allot. Sorry for making that misstake.
So the 4.3 Customer Returns would be acctualy the ones I should be looking at to see what Firmware they have on them. I will go check to see whats available. Thanks.

Many people (myself included) have bought their N9005 with MI7, and I have recently seen a report that there was a very special early version (no knox, never sold to customers) around MI2.

Now everything makes much more sense. Anyhow I did check the others with 4.3. See attachments.
The white one would be an original release as it seems. I prefer the black one, but reserved both for now. Any thoughts on these two?
Both of them can be rooted without tripping knox!

Well, both should be OK, BUT you also need to ask the seller for a picture in download mode - you really want knox warranty flag 0x0 and reactivation off, here is an example of how that looks:

Thanks for the Tip I already looked at how to check the flag and will do that before commiting but Media Markt is a large Retail Store and on Customer Returns they have the same 2 Year Warranty as on the new ones. I am able to start and check them before buying. Chances are the new ones have the same Firmwares but I will try to get a better price with a Customer Return.
Rooted
Just a quick update to end this Thread on a good Note.
Ended up buying the Customer Return for 539.- ($614) with a MJ3 Firmware and tried the Root de la Vega method to Root it without triggering the Knox Flag.
Rooted to the bone but Knox is triggered. Oh well not sure what I did wrong. I will live with it.

Since you tripped the KNOX flag you might as well just update to 4.4.2 and re-root it. It's just that much better :good:

Where you are right you are right but I got another Note 3 which I am going to try again using the Root de la Vega Method.
MJ1 Firmware
Just trying to figure out what I could have done wrong on my first Note 3. Anyone have any Ideas? Maybe I used the wrong firmware. Will try it this time with a MJ1 Firmware. On the first one I will go ahead and upgrade to KitKat. Just wondering what the best way is?
Anyone have any thoughts on these two issues?
Since I'm a new user, I can't post my question in the Universal Root de la Vega thread. I have the firmware shown on the images attached to this message... Can I root my note 3 without tripping knox using URDLV?

There is another solution than root de la vega. Follow this guide and you won't trip knox even if you root or install custom recovery/rom. You can also go back to 4.3 from 4.4.2 if kitkat is not your type.

Well... mi compilation number isN900W8UBUBMJ4 (as shown in the attached images a couple post ago). The firmware I used to patch with URDLV has the following details:
PDA: N900W8UBUBMJ4
CSC: N900W8TCEBMJ3
MODEM: N900W8UBUBMJ3
So, I asume that will trigger knox right? I ask a lot because here in Mexico, the note 3 has a price of $1,073 USD. As you can see, Telcel really overprice the phones, and I don't wanna lose warranty, but I wanna delete all the useless bloatware from Telcel.

The attached images on the first post says MHG which is why I said you can safely use urdlv. If it's MJ4, then using urdlv will trip knox. There is an app called Kingo that can root it but based on what I've read so far, it's hit or miss. Some had success rooting MJ4 without tripping Knox and then again some actually softbricked their phones and trip Knox. The guide that I linked you to will not trip Knox even if you install custom recovery and root your phone. The only caveat is you will have to update to 4.4.2. But should you need the warranty, you can always flash back to 4.3. Having said that, it's all up to you.

Well... I think then I will give it the big step... I considered the Klingo way, but as you said, is a coin toss, so I will take my chances and go with URDLV :good:
