I can't find any reference to "root vega" by searching this subforum, so I'm asking.. please be gentle if this is covered elsewhere. I know URDLV is available for the Note 3 on sprint and can be used to gain root on a stock rom without tripping the Knox warranty bit, and am wondering if it's possible to use it to flash a rooted, stock MJA or MK2 ROM onto the Galaxy S4?
I have a completely stock phone, just bought it last week and foolishly applied the OTA update without checking the forums first so I now have the Knox bootloader and have a knox counter in download mode. I've read that you can flash a rooted stock firmware on a Sprint Note 3 without tripping the knox bit and want to know if anyone out there has successfully flashed a stock MJA or MK2 firmware using the URDLV method on a Sprint Samsung S4.
I know I have a snapdragon processor, and that URDLV doesn't work with the Exynos chip, so I'm hoping that it since it sounds like it'll work in theory, that a brave soul has attempted this and can share any info. I only want root, I'm fine manually uninstalling the crap I don't need and I'm okay with using the stock rom, I just want root and know that if i use CF-auto-root that i'll trip the counter, or if i use Vroot I'm potentially using a piece of software that might have malware or spyware in it (the cons to using VRoot are all over the forums).
Anyone out there who can share their insights or experience? Thanks!
I would like to upgrade my aging N7000 to an N9005 but not without doing the proper reading first. Unfortunately all the reading also confused me more then it resolved my questions. My main Question is what would be a good Firmware to look for on a Note 3 before buying it. Regarding not trying to trip Knox. (If it turns out to be too much of a pain I will survive tripping that flag and living with a preexisting condition. )
I gave up searching for a black 64GB Note 3. They seem to exist but are harder to come by then a Ghost. Am I correct to assume that de la Vega Root only works on pre 4.2.2.Firmwares? For CF Root are there any prefered Firmwares?
I know it is usually hard to check the Firmware when they are still brand new and packaged but there are lots of customer returns at local Media Markt’s. Besides the ones that have been upgraded to 4.3 there are some with 4.2.2 N9005XXUENA2 on it. Do you think I should keep searching for a older one or rather go online and find a used one which has never been update? Or does it really not matter? Still enjoying Paranoid Android on my Note 1. Or is there a good reasons to wait a little longer?
Media Markt Switzerland is selling the Samsung Galaxy Note N9005 32GB for CHF 599.- = $680 which is not a bad price. MSRP in Switzerland is CHF 768.- = $872 (Customer Returns would go for about CHF 50.- = $56 cheaper)
Any thoughts on this? Or any additional reading material that I should not miss? Any hints and tips are greatly appreciated.

For Note 3 there seem to be no firmware before 4.3.
For Knox and N9005 you really want any firmware BEFORE 4.3 MJ3. I have seen reports that you can still work with some post-mj3 if you are in Canada/Mexic and you have the N900W8.

If you prefer to keep knox cool for warranty then find the one with old firmware lower than MJ4 as it's still possible to root and keeps warranty. But maybe not easy to find it.
The first note 3 firmware is MJ1 which is 4.3(there is no 4.2.2). 4.4.2 starts with NA6. So far not possible to root 4.4.2 without tripping knox.

Thanks guys you made one thing clear that I can not read correctly. lol For some odd reason 4.4.2 looked to me like 4.2.2. My misstake but atleast that clears up allot. Sorry for making that misstake.
So the 4.3 Customer Returns would be acctualy the ones I should be looking at to see what Firmware they have on them. I will go check to see whats available. Thanks.

Many people (myself included) have bought their N9005 with MI7, and I have recently seen a report that there was a very special early version (no knox, never sold to customers) around MI2.

Now everything makes much more sense. Anyhow I did check the others with 4.3. See attachments.
The white one would be an original release as it seems. I prefer the black one, but reserved both for now. Any thoughts on these two?
Both of them can be rooted without tripping knox!

Well, both should be OK, BUT you also need to ask the seller for a picture in download mode - you really want knox warranty flag 0x0 and reactivation off, here is an example of how that looks:

How you get in download mode is described in step 3 below:

Thanks for the Tip I already looked at how to check the flag and will do that before commiting but Media Markt is a large Retail Store and on Customer Returns they have the same 2 Year Warranty as on the new ones. I am able to start and check them before buying. Chances are the new ones have the same Firmwares but I will try to get a better price with a Customer Return.
Rooted
Just a quick update to end this Thread on a good Note.
Ended up buying the Customer Return for 539.- ($614) with a MJ3 Firmware and tried the Root de la Vega method to Root it without triggering the Knox Flag.
Rooted to the bone but Knox is triggered. Oh well not sure what I did wrong. I will live with it.

Since you tripped the KNOX flag you might as well just update to 4.4.2 and re-root it. It's just that much better :good:
Trying it again....

Where you are right you are right but I got another Note 3 which I am going to try again using the Root de la Vega Method.
MJ1 Firmware
Just trying to figure out what I could have done wrong on my first Note 3. Anyone have any Ideas? Maybe I used the wrong firmware. Will try it this time with a MJ1 Firmware. On the first one I will go ahead and upgrade to KitKat. Just wondering what the best way is?
Anyone have any thoughts on these two issues?
There are so many different ways of Rooting the note 3, but as a first timer it's difficult to understand which method might be the best.
What I am looking for is a simple step by step guide to Rooting the note 3 exynox version without tripping the Knox..
What to do if I want the note 3 just rooted with everything else stock.
I don't want to go in the details of the method. It would be kind enough if taught with the root tricks and the do's and dont's
Unfortunately,rooting will trip Knox.
If you still want, use CF auto root in Original Android Developement section. Well, Odin? Better to search in google. It is the essential thing for your android phone for flashing official firmware,rooting,etc..
I've heard of a method called root da la Vega? Do it help not tripping knox.
Is there a straight forward method to rooting without tripping knox? I'm on MJE I think. Can someone post a link for a site with good directions? Thanks.
Anyone know? I had a Note 3 on 4.4 but got another via warranty replacement and it came with 4.3. I'd like to know before taking the 4.4 OTA.
Tried Kingo and it failed.
Thanks
just check the stickies like this one.
I have but nothing was really specific. It said the De Las Vega and Kingo could do it, but Kingo failed and i don't want to use Vega and lose everything.
I have a Note 3 (SM-N900W8 - Telus) that I have had for about 6 months. I have had an original Galaxy S and an S3 which were both rooted.
My phone updated to Lollipop so I had to forgo rooting since everything I read said I couldn't root 5.0 with the new bootloader.
I read about downgrading to Kitkat 4.4.2 so I could root and yesterday I took a chance and did it. I used the official 4.4.2 ROM from Sammobile
and using Odin, I flashed it and after a few tries, I got it to work. Now that I am back on Kitkat, I tried Kingroot (the APK) and it failed to root
my phone.
De La Vega now says it can not root 4.4.2, so my question is, is 4.4.2 rootable? I have read a lot about rooting and there are so many opinions
about what works and what doesn't that I wanted to post here to see if I could get a consensus about this. I know many people are rooted
on 4.4.2, but I just want to know the best way without tripping Knox.
Thanks,
Ian
Anyway, I used Kingo Root on my PC to root my Note 3 and it worked. Knox was not tripped and everything works properly.
