Whenever I don't have an HSPA+ connection, I cannot load use data like surfing on the internet on Edge and 3G. It tries to constantly load the data. I feel like this has been a problem ever since I got it. Is there a solution? Thanks
Try changing your APN settings to for your carriers

So I just registered for the T-Mobile UK/Orange network sharing, and I'm all registered
I've enabled data roaming, however under "Network Operators" I have an option for "T-Mobile" and one for "T-Mobile Orange"
Which one should I choose?
Got a feeling i posted in the wrong section but anyway yeah, whats everyone else on TMo doing?
Just leaving it on automatically detect?

Leave it on auto.
It'll default to T-Mobile and only use T-Mobile/Orange when you have no signal on T-Mobile itself.
When roaming onto T-Mobile/Orange, you'll only get Edge speeds maximum as opposed to the speeds you can get on T-Mobile's 3G network.
Some time later this year, they're supposed to be merging the 3G networks together as well but until then, it's 2/2.5G only.
Teampokerface
Keep it on auto.
good info, cheers
At first I thought this would be useful, but I find its more annoying than anything. Mine hogs orange, which is pain. Everytime I load up the internet its connected to orange, I do a network scan t-mobile appears and I have a full HSPDA signal and yet it favours oranges Edge or G with unuseable data speeds. every friggin time!!!!!!!
It should only switch to the T-Mobile/Orange network when you don't have coverage on T-Mobile's own network.
It might be an issue with how your handset is set up that it's defaulting to T-Mobile/Orange.
If need be, you can actually opt out of the signal share by texting STOP to 2121.
o right, ok thanks I may consider doing that then as there isnt many places I dip out of signal for long on t-mobile anyway. Having to constantly go through settings to change it back to t-mobile is very annoying.
Hi all,
I recall clearly that Tmobile users can talk and surf simultaneously on its network. But I have had issues doing so. It appears that I cannot talk and surf while using Wi-Fi or on EDGE for that matter.
I swear I was able to do this with my old G1. Can anyone advise?
Thanks!
i've had Tmobile before, and i know i was never able to talk and surf.. i mightt be wrong tho, because it was a while back.
I just tested it out:
Wifi - Can't talk and surf
HSPA (4G) - I can talk and surf
EDGE (2G) - Can't talk and surf
I found this while scouring the web:
Yes, you can do this, but only while on 3G. The reason being is because the 3G radio will be used for voice, leaving the EDGE data radio available for data. Wifi should also work while talking.
This makes sense, but makes me wonder why I can't talk and surf while using wi-fi.
When you say you're using wifi, are you uusing wifi calling?

I had this problem to I noticed when I get calls my 2g or edge symblol goes away. So I think this guys right. Also I think it would work on wifi if u used regular calling not wifi calling.

anyone experiencing data drops particularly when the phone is in weak 4G coverage? It acts like it cant switch between 4G and 3G. sometimes it might take 5 min or more before it will reconnect to data. the phone works fine when it is in a strong signal area. So far I have just experienced this behavior in low signal coverage.
Yesss! Experienced that yesterday. But came back on in 5 min. Usually fixed when u go to settings and switch from the lte to GSM and back to lte but haven't had trouble with it today

Yours is the first case I've seen where data drops altogether, most have just been going back to 3G too often.

I am having the no data issue as well! I leave my house (on wifi and supposedly 3G or 4G) and I want to start listening to music immediately in my car but I have no data connection once wifi is off. It can take over a minute or more to get a data connection! I was wondering if this had to do with LTE protocol negotiation, as this is my first 4G phone. However it seems way too slow and its very aggravating. When it does get data back, it is usually 4G not 3G. Toggling data mode on and off doesn't fix it. I have not yet tried toggling between CDMA and GSM.

does it only happen when you're leaving wifi and going to cell data?
My experience with data connection was spotty for the first couple days. Going from WiFi into 4G then 3G on the way to work required a reboot to pick up the 3G after I arrived.
I think I may have found my issue.
Settings -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode
Was originally set to "Global". I've found that "LTE/CDMA" works better for me.
hope this helps some.
I have the unlimited plan with T-Mobile, $70 a month plan, and my signal is fine. No matter what I do, it randomly switches to 2g, and takes forever to switch back to 3g/4g. Customer support is completely useless. How can I just block edge altogether? It's frustrating having to makes it search for networks ever 30 minutes to get my data back.

i know may sound stupid but you may accidentally hit "use only 2g network" in mobile network settings
and other matter if you have stock phone or did you made any modification??
I checked. Not once has the 2g settings ever been checked on. Sometimes it does this while I'm on a call, sometimes when I'm not even touching it. That's the first thing I thought too. I have no idea if this is an issue with the phone, or T-Mobile.

In the dialpad, dial: *#*#4636#*#*
Go in Phone information and scroll down, select "WCDMA only", or if you have the LTE baseband, LTE/WCDMA. I'm sure there are quick toggles you can use to do this on the fly as well, like installing GravityBox if you have root.
Ok so I changed it to WCDMA only. There is a "LTE only" but it refuses to stick on that, even though I do have LTE. LTE shows as H+. There is no WCDMA/LTE option. Why won't LTE only work?

I have recently gotten a new data plan (before I had like 500MB so I didn't even bother with using mobile data) and started using mobile data a lot more. I have found however that when I get 3G signal (it displays 3G in the status bar) no data actually gets transmitted, and I have to keep going until it connects to 4G or H for it to work again.
What can be the issue? I'm on EE, running the latest Pure Nexus ROM and ElementalX kernel with the Amanuensis profile. Thanks!
