Init.d support for gpe V510 Devices and others. - G Pad 8.3 General

I have added init.d support to my latest kernel sleekai4. Included is a script to zip-align apps on boot, and a script for longer battery life.
Kernel located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647119
On other devices, if you have init.d support, my script should work for you too!
See second post in my kernel thread for details.
You will need busybox installed.
You will need root.
You will need SuperSU root enabled at boot for my script to work.

This just keeps getting better!

Whilst the kernel is for the v510 , the rom I am on (infected) supports init.d (has an init.d folder with things in it!!) so I naturally assume that the kernel does too, so I've popped them on my V500 to test

Yes, as far as I know, the script(s) will be universal. If you have init.d support, you should be able to use it. Let me know what you think.

Yes. You can check the values by following the paths that are within the script. Example /sys/device/system/ setting, where "setting" is the value you want to check.
You may also use an app like trickster mod to see what your current CPU frequencies are.

Damn strange, all things considered.
My device feels snappier after applying my tweaks.
Is it just me? Probably.
As a second note, all these settings can be changed to whatever you like. Simply edit the numbers in the script after doing some research!

It was too soon for me to say as an hour later I updated my daily rom...........
I checked back an hour ago and realised I had wiped the changes out of the init.d folder..........
Soo cheeky ask here, do you know how to make your two files into a zip file?
Guys like me on nightly roms could flash it straight after flashing the rom.
It's late now but I'll play with the tablet tomorrow and see how the tweaks go
Thank you in advance,

They are both in zip files already, but not together. You could do that on your own computer though! Unzip both files into a directory and
Code:
zip -r9 name_of_zip.zip *
Where "name of zip" is your name for the zip. All files in the directory get added, so make sure you sandbox them first!

Thanks, I'm actually not particularly technical due to old age
I added your tweaks last night and I've also started using greenify (started using night before) now I'm obviously on a learning curve here but here's a pic of my battery overnight.

[KERNEL][GINGERBREAD] Javelin #10

BTW guys, I won't be concentrating on development this week, and possibly for a while. My grandfather recently got diagnosed with brain cancer and I haven't had a lot of time on the computer (on the phone, yes. I'm on twitter a lot). Don't worry though, I'll get back on it soon
Here it is guys, the kernel you've never heard about. If you're a battery fanatic, this is the kernel for you. With a max clock of 800 MHz and a HZ of 100, this kernel will give you the best battery life you've ever had. Coupled with the optional Undervolting via Xan's Voltage Control app (download here, you're going to be getting a day or two out of this one. Seriously. Its really battery efficient.
You've also got BLN, Voodoo Sound v7, and xcaliburinhand's car dock fixes.
To those of you worrying about speed sacrifices, let me tell you, the tradeoff is worth it. You're getting several extra hours of battery life for a slightly reduced Linpack score. Trust me. It's worth it.
Disclaimer: This will eat your babies
Actually, I'm not responsible for any damage this kernel might do to the space-time continuum (or your phone)

Screen Too Bright? Screen Filter!

Found this app the other day and can't believe I went this long without it!
Screen Filter. It's free from the marketplace. It tones down your brightness significantly under the lowest setting in TouchWiz.
I used to keep sunglasses next to my bed for sleepy-time Reddit browsing, but not any more!
Here's an A-B for you non believers. First photo is at lowest brightness setting in TouchWiz. Second photo is at 34.1% brightness (toggled by Screen Filter widget)

It was a mod done to boost 4G speed. It was then added to all later versions.
Another use for backup and restore is that you can backup your voltage file and edit it directly on the SDcard to restore without dealing with remounts and permissions directly. You can even post it: http://db.tt/mXk3n2d
Backup and restore now fully working. Reboot command is having issues being in a menu, but I am working on that. New kernel was released in the thread for testing and the modified script is added and available in the op. Working on some new additions

The original version was a test of putting radios to sleep when the screen was off instead of having them run idle, but in this one I am actually adding a couple new things:
There is now an option to clear cache and battery stats, reboot clears the dalvik cache to ensure that everything is fresh and new, and exit is no option 0, and will always remain that way so if new menus are added it quits moving.

Yeah, so the world of GUI kernel building is not as interesting as I had hoped it would be. Seems a lot of options I remember having to fish through lines and lines of code to change one word for can now be found with checkboxes. If anyone else wants to get into it, I highly recommend looking at:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...how-build-your-own-kernel-package-source.html
because the guides by "you-know-who" assume we are all too inexperienced or simple minded to get past downloading his source and hitting make. I have faith in you, though, so hopefully this guide can help get some new faces at the table.
Going to give that a look over, i'm starting to get bored waiting for everyone else to release something. maybe put some of this education to work

@ OP - You should reconsider if those tweaks are really universal. Since you are posting in the Nexus S section, I should inform you that your mount points in your scripts don't apply on Nexus S.
The hex-edited files might be working, but your scripts in init.d or in CWM flash file wont work here.
And as already stated in the quote, allot of those tweaks are giving a little bit more performance at cost of the stability and might cause data corruption.
I advise the Nexus S users - DO NOT FLASH THIS ON YOUR DEVICE!

Friend, can you read what I wrote earlier:
Hex-edited files are O.K., but your scripts are not working because of the false parameters for mount points in init.d scripts and in your journaloff script.
The one that tested it for you should have told you that. I know what I'm telling.
Do you get that?

no your the one not getting something, everything your referring to is the version of the tweak for the SGS4G the universal version for more then 10 phones now has only 1 init.d script and JOURNALING IS ENABLED
instead of hating with false references you should atleast try then report back with hatred

You are right - I apologize myself. I've seen that I referred to the SGS tweaks (that I've tested) not the USGS tweaks.
It has nothing to do with hating.
Says it flashed but really didn't. None of the new files are in location. Going to manually add what are permissions for files

could we see a screenshot of your quadrant before and after. at least after, because i dont think this is needed for the nexus s.

yup i agree with u simms, i dont think nexus s need this.
We uses trinity kernel if we need the fastest power on nexus s.
It already blazing fast with or without it.
Really sorry, no offense.
this script is useless. I flashed usas v6, but running quadrant before arrive at 3500 and the second time the 3rd time and after the score is around 4400, like without script.
It might be useless for speed but it did increase the frame rate of the videos and in my opinion made it a bit smoother

what was the frame rate?

This is a list I will do further updates on,
currently I tested all Roms with Quadrant and standard installation with minimum apps and freshly tests after installation!
Benchmark used: QUADRANT
Average of several QUADRANT tests taken and combined and put in the list!
Other Roms will be checked in the future of course too
Be patient, the Note is getting hot because of flashing
[Counter above 20? xD]
PS: Pin-Thread maybe?
You DO know that benchmarks are just a bit of pointless epeen waving, and really have bugger all to do with actual device performance, right?

Not fully, you really can distinguish their performance with those benchmarks especially the memory and I/O and 2D.
Each Rom gives you different amount of processes at the beginning with different kernels and their performance. This creates a different kind of system everytime you install another Rom.
As you see I didn´t count nothing about battery life or stability, thats the only penalty with it!
interesting that Hypernote is the lowest, its the one rom I always go back too

IDK why Hypernote was slow, but Quadrant showed me really low results!I cant remember that Hypernote was underclocked, so the process system and the kernel may be the cause...

Great idea, looking forward to more roms added to the current offerings. Yes it aint scientific but its interesting nonetheless. The OP should be thanked not chastised for the work put into this so imho the naysayers should just but out and not comment unless its a genuinely helpful and constructive comment.

I think it would be really useful if the OP ran the test for a stock version just as a reference, an unbranded version I dare say would be best ?

Try running quadrant back to back 5 times without any alterations or task killers and see if your scores change. And take the average, just to be scientific.

Of course I am not that stupid!
I made 3-5 Tests, deactivated Mobile Data, Sync, Rotation, any processes that can be deactivated on ANY rom, installed ONLY quadrant and killed all processes before using quadrant! Then did multiple tests, MEGA WIPE after any installation of any ROM! No additional apps, except aroma chooseable things!
AGAIN for newbs: The test SHOWS only SPEED/Performance Ability, NOT battery life, NOR stability NOR functionality! Since a LOT of things can be modded directly by the user, its the best thing to know the ROM with best performance to work with. Why? You can analyze the rom's features like kernel, modding, etc.
great job with the list man. I'm quite a fan of hypernote but I'm very surprised it placed last. maybe something important for speed was removed from the hypernote rom that's why?
I think you missed my point. And here's another thread on the same bollocks.

Looks like a full-time job to me. So many ROMs, so many kernels, so many combinations; and, for each one, so many different other variables as have been mentioned above; e.g. indoors, outdoors, sunny, hot, cold, proximity of 3G towers towers/WIFI access points, types of movies seen, software, GPU, multi tasking, and so on This is treading a thesis, IMO.
Good idea nevertheless, although I do prefer the ARHD 5.0 with PERSEUS...now, was it 26 or 26.1?

Obviously you think too complex! Didn´t you read? I used the ROM ITSELF, the ROM's power which comes directly from the developers, such MODS and tweaks which are made by USERS don´t count, when you compare between STOCK ROM with STOCK kernel, you don´t do ANY tweaks with stock ROm to compare them with Custom Roms RIGHT?
It says CUSTOM ROM COMPARE LIST , not USER EDITED LIST with different KERNELS etc. -.-
THATS IT! There are NO big combinations ONLY different versions of the CMs to make it easy! If I would test different KERNELS I would add of course the TITLE (different kernels)
Whats so hard to understand a performance comparison?
