BTW guys, I won't be concentrating on development this week, and possibly for a while. My grandfather recently got diagnosed with brain cancer and I haven't had a lot of time on the computer (on the phone, yes. I'm on twitter a lot). Don't worry though, I'll get back on it soon
Here it is guys, the kernel you've never heard about. If you're a battery fanatic, this is the kernel for you. With a max clock of 800 MHz and a HZ of 100, this kernel will give you the best battery life you've ever had. Coupled with the optional Undervolting via Xan's Voltage Control app (download here, you're going to be getting a day or two out of this one. Seriously. Its really battery efficient.
You've also got BLN, Voodoo Sound v7, and xcaliburinhand's car dock fixes.
To those of you worrying about speed sacrifices, let me tell you, the tradeoff is worth it. You're getting several extra hours of battery life for a slightly reduced Linpack score. Trust me. It's worth it.
Disclaimer: This will eat your babies
Actually, I'm not responsible for any damage this kernel might do to the space-time continuum (or your phone)

The first build isn't up. The Trident nightly is, and I'm going to run the nightly now, so expect a nightly in about 20-30 minutes. Just check back.

Idk, I would assume. I've only had it booted 10 mins or so. I'm still restoring apps.
It has a customized launcher... I haven't used V1 nextgen yet, so I'm not sure if it's a custom TW launcher or the GB launcher. I use Zeam so it'll get removed anyway.
Pulled a 1500 quad right into bootup. I'm setting up my apps, tossing in Bullet, and seeing what this thing screams at.

Quoted from Kevin Burns:
I am too exhaust right now to put the OP up in the forum. SO here is the brief changelog
added TouchWiz4 with working widgets
newly compile fugu binaries
"Stock" as in KA6 GPS configs for everyone who had problems hopefully this will help you out
Changed the Sdcard read hack and bumped it up to 2048
Newly updated Swype
Removed Starwars lockscreen but kept the Clock toggle
"Flying" animations
new hosts file to remove most junk and ads
Went back to Somb's GB look and feel
The wallpaper chooser is slightly off for right now, I have a fix for it, but it will forceclose everytime you reboot, but then work perfect afterwards. I will have a flashable up tommorow sometime for it. Otherwise the Wallpaper chooser that comes with nextgen2 works perfectly.

Yea, the launcher is TW4, animations are kinda cool, but I have them disabled.
The new swype they put in didn't work for me. The gingerbread KB is included, which I do use.
It's not themed, stock 2.2 look with the TW4 launcher.
It's really smooth and responsive ...looks like it's running a stock voodoo kernel.

EDIT: I think I have enough testers now. I'll take a few stragglers for a little bit but the testing window is now closed. I will leave the thread open until tomorrow so the testers can leave me notes on their experience (apart from what they shared on irc). Thank you for all who showed up to test! Stay tuned for another round of testing soon!
Most of you are familiar with my Genocide kernel for Froyo. For the next couple of hours I need a handful of testers for a 1.4ghz kernel compiled from Gingerbread source. My personal testing seems to be pretty positive so I need some other people to beat on the kernel for a little while.
So far the kernel has support for the following:
eh17 only (cm7 kernel available but I would prefer eh17 users)
overlock and undervolt support (100mhz, 200mhz, 400mhz, 600mhz, 800mhz, 1.0ghz, 1.1ghz, 1.2ghz, 1.3ghz, 1.4ghz)
rfs & ext4 support
bootanimation.zip/sanim.zip support
init.d/ support
keytimer patches
latest su and superuser.apk (installed automatically if not already installed)
initramfs from chris41g's eh17plus kernel (slightly modified)
and a few more tweaks
Please don't ask to test if you don't really know or feel comfortable using experimental stuff. I try to test everything thoroughly that I put out but I am still not responsible if something really bad happens. I will how ever help any way I can to get you back going. It is important that you make a CWM backup before you flash the experimental kernel. My main focus right now is the overclocking and undervolting stability but everything needs to be tested more.
If you would like to test find me on irc for the next few hours. Please stay in the channel and give feedback of what works and doesn't work. Join in and give it hell!

ok so i can keep all the testers that are still around straight, please answer these few questions for me when you finish testing. i'll leave this thread open until tomorrow.
1. which kernel did you test? (eh17/cm7)
2. what rom and version are you using?
3. tell me a detailed story about your overclocking experience. (what works, what didn't work, what you did or didn't do, were you able to go higher on froyo stable, etc)
4. did you find anything else that didn't work as expected?
5. any other comments/suggestions/moans/complaints?
Freezes above 122 for me on CM7
Also noticed I was plugged in to USB and the battery was decreasing and not charging
I'm running this on cm7.1 the latest build.
This appears 100% stable even at 1.4ghz (I always bump core voltage up to 1400 and internal to 1150 though from previous experience.
the hardware keyboard misses nothing *keyboard sweep time* qwertyuiop asdfghjkl zxcvbnm
I have no complaints at all. Just looking forward to cm7 having ext4 support.

Thank you for offering to test everyone...
The kernel is not totally done, I want to do a few more things with it before I make a dev post on it.... I wanted to see on this test build if the SBC was working.. ergo why I posted screenshots of no -mA so hopefully those offering to test already were existing or previous SBC users.
My next goal is to try to get dynamic undervolting by use of vipermod or maybe incredi-control... other basic things like the usual modules, governors, etc will get added later on. My main focus is to make this kernel unique in comparison to the existing ones available...
I started with stock, so I got to learn and understand everything I'm putting into it. Plus this will help me update it if and when HTC releases the new kernel source code...
So for those that haven't gotten to test it, give me some more time and it will go public once I feel its enough of a kernel to post.
Also for those with the test kernel, please reply and confirm its working either in pm or thread.

getting some positive feedback, am hopeful for some more after a nightly soak... my battery didn't melt, which is a good thing, just hoping all other will have success through the night staying on 0 or small positive mA...
also just for fun, let me know what you think about the smartassv2 that is set as default... going to try to work on some stuff tonight...
what do people think if i release a basically stock kernel with sbc (only mods would be wifi n band enabled, gps fix, maybe 10 pt touch, etc) along with a custom kernel... i could get that one out sooner.. and i know at least 1 person who requested it, and i plan on compiling one for him, just wondered if it should get a public release...
well let me know your thoughts. and thanks again to the testers.

I am a little saddened. I just learned that MIUI is no longer supporting the Vibrant. Of course we have some ports like WeUI but its not coming from MIUI themselves anymore See I have this bad habbit of needing to bounce around ROMS (can anyone relate or am i just weird?) and now I have learned that me first love is no longer available for me to bounce to? This is tragic. I suppose I cannot Blame MIUI because this is a legacy device, but the issue is I still don't have anything newer I want the GS3 but it costs a pretty penny. Anyways, all I wanted to do was vent and that is what I just did. Thanks for listening.
Miui (GB) was a great rom. Ran pretty much every version from start to end... A total of six months or so... Here's a link to my Miui guide, since I figured it might interest an avid Miui lover as yourself... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307637
The ports are amazing.
WEUI dropped support, too.
Use the Miui v4 by Jrongi.
Been running it for about2 months. Its amazingly fast

The 720 video recording is dependent on your Kernel. Devil kernel has this fixed, and if you flash SubZero, you'll get a add-on flashable fix that fixes this.
Pretty much everything works right now.
Just go with CM. Huge team supporting you and much better software.
Well I am on CM9 and 720 works with glitch kernel and my GPS works if I turn it on and reboot and then I get a good lock. Does this work on the MIUI you use ?

Well I am no amateur user. Name a ROM and I bet you i have used it. I am on CM9 now , but as amazing as this rom and dev is, it doesn't have the elegance if MIUI.

If you like and want miui 4.0, you just need to download the MIUI Scotland V4 for i9000, then change some files to make it work on your vibrant.

... Or like xriderx66 mentioned above, he (or anyone interested) could try Jrongi's Miui v4 port. It can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552241. There's really no need to go through all the work of porting the i9000 version when Jrongi already has a well working port openly available.

That's always a hit and miss.
Some peoples GPS works, some doesn't.
I, personally, do not trust my phones GPS after it almost got me into a car accident once, So i went and bought a good GPS.
Just nandroid backup your CM9, and then try out MIUI. Try it for a day or two, (it takes a while to settle in) and test out GPS for yourself, and see if you want to go back to CM9. Easy as that. I move between MIUI, TouchwizICS, and AOKP throughout the day using nandroids
Thanks guys! I'll try it!

Thought this might interest you guys. Believe it or not, that screenshot is of ICZen 1.8.3 (based on aokp) and not a Miui rom.
