I am on Verizon, and am running CM11...I just switched on Friday, and am running in to a problem where no one with an iPhone's (75% of the people I know) texts come through to me. I deactivated my phone number from the iMessage/iCloud/whatever servers, and now the messages don't even go to my old iPhone. I'm assuming the problem is that I forgot to turn iMessage off before activating my G2.
Apple said it would take about 24 hours (?) for the change to go through...so just in case this may have something to do with my G2, or CM11, or something unrelated...I figured I'd ask here...because it should be working by now.
Yay apple, my brother just went through this. Go to a vzw store. Have them activate an iPhone for you, disable all that i cloud crap, then reactivate your REAL phone and you'll be good to go... Way easier than option b which is via apples + verizons customer service. This will work.

Ugh. I had this same problem. I was using my iPhone as an iPod after I got my galaxy S3 and all of my texts from iPhone users would spam the iPhone every time I got near Wi-Fi. It was horrendous. I was able to fix it by disabling iCloud on the iPhone and the Apple website in my account settings.
Hope this helps, in case you've already wiped or sold the iPhone, you can (or at least, you could a year ago) turn off iCloud on the Apple site.
EDIT: it's probably important to note that I'm on at&t right now so all i had to do to use the iPhone is put any at&t SIM in it.

Will this work even if I've already turned iCloud/iMessage/etc off? Here's the order I did things in:
1. Activated Android phone WITHOUT turning off iCloud/iMessage/etc.
2. Turned on iPhone at my home (connected to WiFi) to grab some information off of it - saw a dozen iMessages sent from all my people that use iOS
3. Turned off iMessage from the iPhone.
4. Called Apple customer service, had them disassociate my phone number from iCloud/iMessage/etc.
5. Issue was still occuring after the 24 hours Apple said it would take for their servers to propagate the change. Made this post.
6. Spoke with Verizon customer service. In-store, they said there was nothing I could do but wait and tell everyone I know with an iPhone to make sure to re-send failed iMessages as text messages. Over the phone, the rep put me on hold and did something to my line (wouldn't tell me what) that she stated should "fix" the issue, but that I still needed to tell everyone I knew that used an iPhone to delete me as a contact, delete our message threads, and re-enter me as a contact.
-----
At this point, iPhone users "texting" me worked about a quarter of the time. My wife could do it just fine, and didn't have to do any re-sending as a text. Others, however, were still having to do so, and in even more rare cases, some didn't even have the option...it would just send as iMessage and I'd never get the message.
Now, over a week later, the issue is still occuring. Annoyingduck (or anyone), do you think that if I activated an iPhone, enabled iMessage, and then disabled it and then deactivated the iPhone and reactivated the Android (like I should have done initially...they really should put a notice about that in the Quickstart guide!), it would clear the issue up? Do you think I would need to wait any period of time to let Apple's servers catchup? This just seems like such a massive oversight on Apple's part, which is making it really confusing.

Of you still have your iPhone, then yes do that and you can do it over the phone. Otherwise go into the store and MAKE them activate an iPhone for you so you can do it yourself while in the store. They must honor this. If they give you a hard time demand it and speak to a manager. That's what my brother had to do...

Thanks. I don't still have the same iPhone I was using, but I have an older one....safe to assume that would work if they would obviously have to use a completely different one at a Verizon store?

I don't believe so. I don't think it has anything to do with security...it's just like data messaging, instead of SMS...like BBM on Blackberry. It's not even exclusive to iPhones...it's on iPods, iPads, etc. I had it on my 4S when it was still running iOS 6 over a year ago, and nothing ships with any older OS, so I should be fine on that front.

So yesterday I got my third Atrix. This one won't send texts. Any ideas for what the problem could be? I tried it when I had 4 bars and the phone I was texting was a foot away. I tried Handcent and the stock app, both didn't work.
Oh let me clarify. They "send" on my phone, but the receiver doesn't actually receive the text.

Can someone help? This is kind of a major issue and I don't really feel like dealing with AT&T now.
Sounds like it is an account issue. What's att say?

I'm sure you can understand, I really just don't want to talk with them now. But I guess I'll have to.
I've had the Atrix for 3 days now, and this is my third one. Each time there was a hardware issue, and the reps tried to say it was supposed to be like that. Like my last phone, a 1x4 area on the top of the screen was unclickable. Yeah, that's really how the phone is supposed to work...

Unfortunately, dealing with CS is a huge part of being with AT&T. When you call them just tell the first person you want to speak with the floor manager and then have that person transfer you to (actual) technical support with a note for priority on your account. Issues like this must be dealt with someone on a higher tier.
I feel like I should get some kind of reimbursement or something... first the Captivate, now this.
By the way I love my current Atrix, and I might just not even worry about the texting for awhile, and just enjoy the phone.

You are barking up the wrong tree with reimbursements. Even if you return the phone with an issue they will charge you restocking. Unless you speak to someone at their corporate CS and have them note on your account that you are returning due to hardware issues. Never go to a brick-and-mortar unless you speak with someone on the phone to put notes on your account for any issues you are having so they won't try to feed you a line of BS
If you're coming from an iphone, the provisioning is different. May be different coming from your cappy too. Best bet is to call att cs or go into a store for that issue.

Well, that's with an exchange which is different than returning it.
AND
I guess it really depends on where you go. I am lucky enough to live in a large city with multiple AT&T stores because last month I originally tried the Inspire 4G and the first one I got had a screen separation issue so I brought it to one store and the employee tried telling me that it was "common" so I drove another 10 miles and the next store replaced it no questions asked. Then a week later I decided I wanted to try the Atrix instead so I called CS and told them my first exchange was due to hardware issues and had them annotate my account specifying that and confirm that I still had "1" exchange left in my 30 day period which ended being helpful because I went to the store to do the exchange and they tried to tell me that I had already used it until I told them to check the notes on my account. After that, they apologized and I left with the Atrix. It's really hit and miss but if you call in first they'll make sure the rules are followed correctly.
I had the same problems with texting when I got my atrix. I came from an iphone 3g and I had the 200 msg package, which no longer exists but they allowed me to keep it just like the unlimited data plan, my problem was that somehow the package got removed and I had no text messaging. They added back the plan and i it started working....

I had the same issue.. turn out to be a bad 4g sim card.. they swap the sim card and then I could txt.
Is the SMSC number correct? Check by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and goign to Phone Info (click Refresh to see if it pulls the number from teh network)
Got a Text message from AT&T today, saying a suitable data plan is required for Laptops, Tablets, and Mifi Devices. Call 611 now to avoid service interuption
WTF I have had a dell streak since August of 2010, never a problem then.
So I called and got someone who seemed to know very little in regards to smartphones in general. Told her I have multiple devices that I use at different times, which is true. She asked me if the current and newest device i am using is a samsung GT-N7000, i said its a samsung, and its new, but I have no clue what the model number is.
She asked what dataplan I had, I told her I have the same unlimited plan I have had for 4 years. She verified that and said it is a suitable plan and to ignore the message.
I have played games like this before. For some reason the issue comes back up and you say so and so you talked to a month ago said it was fine, they ask who you talked to, you say I don't remember the name, and they say sucks for you.
So I had her send me an email with her name, saying that everything is fine, and that I do indeed have a suitable data plan for my device.
Hopefully thats that, but be prepared to get a warning such as this.
Bryce
Don't blame AT&T for this. Blame all the ppl that are using a Note on a MediaNet plan. They are starting to crack down on it. Worst case scenario is you having to bring in your Note to an AT&T store & showing them its a legit phone.
I got the same message yesterday. Called AT&T and told them I've never used any of those devices. He asked for the IMEI and confirmed that I had a Samsung phone and told me he would remove the note from my record and update that I have a Samsung phone.
Gave me his extension and said if I got the message again to call him and he would take care of it.

Wait, she knew the model number of the Note but still wanted you to sign up for some tablet data plan? That's a very interesting tidbit...
I'm happy to hear a rep appears to be working with someone. It is a little troubling that we might have to lie about the model of our device (she asked if he had the GT-N7000, which is the Note's model.) I really hope my reaction in the other thread turns out to be an over reaction.

I'm actually hoping the fact she knew the model number is a sign AT&T's gearing up to offer the Note themselves. Maybe it's in their system but not yet properly categorized or something.

Yeah how in the heck did the rep know what model phone he had? I know they can see the IMEI number on their screens but I wonder if the systems ID'd it correctly or if the CSR searched for the IMEI through an online tool?
If you lose your plans I can recommend an alternative solution that may or may not save you money.
Port your phone # to Google Voice, that will save you $20 a month for unlimited text. The only trade off is right now Google Voice only does MMS from Sprint. This will allow you to keep your current #, and only need to pay AT&T for data and voice.
With Android you can make calls via Google Voice and it will operate like using the # through your carrier, no hoops to jump through or data connections required like VOIP. Everyone you call will still see your normal number.
Got another message this morning saying that my data plan has been restricted and that I need to call immediately. Glad I asked for that email from the CSR last night.
Also, I highly doubt the CSR looked it up. She did not seem to know the process of much of anything, and It was very hard not to just lash out and tell her the answeres to her own questions she was looking up in the system about data plans...but didnt want to seem overly knowledgeable...
Will post the results when I have a chance to call.
That's what I've been afraid of. If the system is doing this, do the reps actually have any power to override the system? So even if you do go into a store and they say ok it's a phone, can they actually make the system stop booting you?

I've been wanting the Note to come to AT&T simply for the fact that the more people that get it, the more support it'll have here. However, I had a bad thought; what if they rip the voice and sms capabilites out of it and call it a tablet, like they did here? http://www.groubal.com/att-is-price-gouging-by-disabling-device-features-must-read/ That would be in line with the reports of people getting booted.
I am trying to do the opposite. I would like to get a data plan only for my note but I am afraid to use the Note's IMEI number because I think they will detect it as a phone and won't let me do data only.

That's certainly a valid concern. Though I would think if that was the case, the reps wouldn't have been able to "fix" the issue for those that have had it fixed. Nothing to do but wait and see how this unfolds.
How much data do you use? I haven't gotten a message like that but then again I hardly use their data. I'm on wifi most of the day.

How many members so far have NOT received the text are on the grandfathered unlimited plan? (NOT medianet)
That was what they did to the Galaxy Tab, and people weren't able to use it as a phone. What they did over the Galaxy Tab forum was to backup and delete the efs folder. The tab then has a generic IMEI and works as a phone on AT&T network again. Wonder if we can do the same thing on the Note.

I have the unlimited smartphone data program and have hot gotten a text yet. I haven't used wifi sharing yet. Maybe that is causing the system to flag people?
Im grandfathered as well and have not gotten any messages about data.

I am on the grandfathered smart phone plan and have not gotten the text yet. I upgraded to 4g unlimited last week and had to give the imei of my note and they said nothing about the note being data only then. I have used quite a bit of data but no wifi sharing/tethering.
Folks, I just switched from Iphone 4 to a Galaxy S4 and now i'm not getting any texts from Iphone users, I can send to them but when they try to reply or just send me one it says "Not Delivered", I've played with the Imessage settings some in my Iphone but obviously i'm not doing something correctly, can anyone help me out here?
I think you need to login to Apple and de-register your phone
This will "inform" iMessage to send message as SMS and not iMessage

keep us posted. a lot of good people on here willing to help. cheers.
I had this problem when I switched from an iPhone. Reading through the post here I see that they have answered your questions. You do have to turn off iMessage on the iPhone, and if you have an iPad, you gotta disable that number on the iPad as well. If you don't have either of the devices anymore and they have been reset, then iMessage on the iPhone should automatically switch to SMS instead of iMessage. Hope this helps.
I have not had a chance to do much the last few days but just quickly I tried turning Imessage off and then inserting the LTE Sim into the Galaxy S4, I have not reset my iphone though, I sent my coworker a message and he got it, he tried replying it said "not delivered", then he initiated a new message, not replying from one I had sent him, and he sent me a picture and it actually came thru, also I sent my wife a message to her Iphone and she is not able to reply nor initiate a new message to send to me. That is so strange, tomorrow afternoon I am going all out and will factory reset my iphone and see if that seems to help. By the way I signed out of my Apple ID and also disabled Imessage and this is all still going on.
will report later tomorrow if it helps factory resetting iphone.
Thanks again for all the replys.
F**king apple.
Folks, since I love gadgets I just purchased a week old HTC One and of course its doing the same thing by not getting texts from Iphones. I've signed out of my apple account and turned of Imessage and still the same things happen. Does it matter that i'm using Straight Talk even though I have the newest ATT LTE sim card?
Thanks
I don't know if this is the solution or not but I have finally gotten texts from iPhone users, on my wife's iPhone I went under Settings, messages and then turn on Send As SMS, this has worked for 3 folks with iPhones texting me tonight.
One more question , does the HTC One need to be rooted or unlocked in order to send pictures? I tried sending one a little while ago and it did not go.

I went to the Apple store today and asked about your issue (had to go there for a warranty swap for an iPad and remembered your question). They told me you could call Apple at (forgot number) and they can disable it for you. That seems easy enough doesn't it? If you try it and it works please let me know!

No need to root to send pictures/mms just set your carrier APN settings correctly in settings and voila!

Once I got the phone setup and on the Sprint network I tried a test SMS to someone. They replied and the message came in. Then it repeated itself over and over indefinitely. I had someone else send me a SMS message but that message never came through. I received the last message that was sent once again.
Countless hours on the phone with Sprint escalated through tech support. Took it back to the store. They tried to "flash" it but could not. Swapped out for another Essential Ph-1 and it did the same thing.
I told them to keep it. It has caused enough stress in my life for years at this point.
Curious, there have been a few random issues (not just on Sprint) that have turned out to be APN related. Do you know if they checked the APN settings and verified they were correct for their network? I changed a couple settings on TMobile to match what their recommendation is on their website and I know a couple AT&T people have had to change a thing or two as well.

No use crying over spilled milk. Enjoy whatever you went with.
This is entirely speculation, but it could be on either Sprint's side or the Messenger app itself. What you describe mirrors my experience with my unlocked Galaxy S8 and using the Messenger app. I switched that line over to the Essential phone it started working fine with text messages. If you try again in the future, try disabling the advanced SMS features (called RDS I think?).

Thank you, appreciate the advice.
I work for sprint and this is an uncommon issue that has plagued the network for years. If your phone is not rooted, a simple profile update can fix this. One common issue we have seen with the essential phones bought through sprint is it not activating fully the first time. After the phone says it's activated still go through the settings, tap about, tap "OMADM updates" and click profile update. It was reprovision the phone correctly and reboot again. Sometimes it gets stuck on the last step. As long as the reception goes blank and then comes back with a LTE logo then you are done and can reboot the phone.
I know you already went with another phone but you could just as easily have the same issues on another phone. This comment is more for those who are looking for answers to your issue.

I will probably go back by the Sprint store tomorrow to see if they figured anything out.
I cannot be without a phone and I do not currently have time to troubleshoot one that is not working.
I will keep chugging along with my old phone for the time being.

To be clear, Sprint Technical Support is so close to useless you might as well ask your dog how to fix your phone. You'd get the same quality of information and save yourself some time to boot. This is not necessarily Sprint's fault. It's very likely that Essential isn't giving them enough information. For example, I was trying to get files transfered from my PC to my Essential Phone earlier today. All I got was an big empty nothing telling me "This Folder is Empty." Figured it was something very simple but I couldn't figure out what. Sprint's second level support told me to call HP (computer OEM). Came onto this forum and somebody mentioned "just change the setting in notifications from charging to file transfer." Yep! It really was that easy! And Sprint should have easy fixes like that extremely well documented.
It makes me more that a little nervous to realize that Sprint is completely clueless about this phone and that Essential is next to impossible to get in touch with. Makes me wish I could have held out for the other Sprint exclusive coming soon: The LG V30+. Same 128GB internal, better screen, waterproof certification, drop proof certification, OLED screen instead of the PH-1's disappointing LCD panel, bigger screen, has an SD card slot, better camera, and above all else, well supported. Unfortunately, my old phone was broken and I needed to replace it immediately and as cheaply as possible. $15 per month made the PH-1 the best option available for me. Even the LG G6 with it's inferior specs, processor, etc. would have cost me more -- $20 per month.
We'll see how I'm feeling about my PH-1 in a week. Right now there's a lot of good and a lot of bad, so it's hard to say. At least by shear dumb luck I got the PH-1 at a budget phone price.
I had the same issue and took it to a Sprint store today. After a lot of trial and error, turning off Google voice did the trick for me. Even though they already switched me to a new phone.
I wanted to keep it but Pixel 2 coming out in October and camera subpar.

I am on sprint and I have had zero issues, in fact I have a better signal with this phone because it utilizes the LTE + network. This is very interesting to me.
I bought a V20 used on Swappa that didn't come with a SIM, didn't realize how much trouble that would prove to be. Sprint is not like the other carriers where the service follows the SIM. The SIM card you have has to be associated with certain ranges of IMEIs otherwise it won't work, apparently.
I went to 2 different Sprint stores last night. At the first store they tried every nano sim that they had on hand but none of them worked on Sprint's network in the V20. The 2nd store said they didn't have one in stock but I could try calling the national sales support line, well, the sales support line will not talk to you unless you work at a Sprint store. The 2nd store also said that I needed an ICCID ending in 0849.
This is for a Sprint specific V20.
Anyone have any ideas?
Are you a sprint customer? Try customer service or tech support. You can chat on the sprint website. Ask them to send you a new sim card
Yea I did the chat thing and they are overnighting it to me, at their expense.
I far prefer chat to actually calling, I usually get the right people and its usually resolved.

Great glad it's all working out just an FYI they overnighted me a Sim 2 weeks ago it took them eight days to get it to me wasn't quite overnight hope your experience is different
They shipped it on Friday and per UPS web site, it's on the truck for delivery today. I hope to see it this evening when I get home.
So sick of iOS! It was a mistake for me to get an iPhone for my personal use. I have a work phone also and it's a 7 plus. iOS is fine for my work phone but for someone who uses pretty much all of Google's services and likes to root and ROM, it's a real bummer to have an iPhone as your personal. One of the biggest drawbacks is that you can't do both the Google Voice outbound calling and WiFi calling at the same time. You have to choose one or the other. When I turned on WiFi calling, Sprint disabled my Google Voice integration. Enough of that already. People keep asking me why I am calling them on this weird number, because I've been using my Google Voice number for years for all my outbound cell calls.
Bottom line I'm just too invested in the Google ecosystem to use an iPhone. They have most of the Google apps but it's just not as good. I told my wife if she wanted to FaceTime me, just use my work number. Problem solved.
Side note - by loading the security updates, I read here that the V20 can't be rooted now? That would be kind of a bummer but the V20 stock ROM is probably the least buggy that I've seen, so hopefully I'm content to use it as is.

Have you already upgraded security? Do you know your arb# currently or what Zv# your on? You can root if your zv7 or under. Developer mode had a switch to disable automatic updating if your looking for that feature
