Simple question. Do you rock a case on the Note 3, or are you running it raw dog style?
I've now tried two cases, the Spigen Neo Hybrid and the UAG. Didnt like the Spigen at all. Love the storm trooper look of the UAG but that thing is nearly impossible to remove and it doubles the thickness of the phone. Plus, as a huge fan of the appearance of the Note3, I'm not sure I'd really like any case at all.
Thinking of throwing a tempered glass protector on the screen and calling it good.
I run it naked.
I love the look too, but not the feel. The leather appearance of the back looks great but gives very little grip. I have an otterbox defender and that same old patterned belt clip/holster that Verizon has been selling for years with their smartphones. I almost bought that spigen s-view case until I saw pictures of how it cracked one user's screen. I don't really like cases on my phone either but i'm not brave enough to go without a case. Samsung phones have been known to be kinda fragile.

Case. Don't remember who makes it, but it's sturdy.

It slips over the top and bottom, rather than back/front. So it will not pop off when you drop it.
And it has a kickstand on the back!

Yeah, I think I paid $30-ish for it. Had one for my last phone, an S3. Dropped it 3 stories off a balcony onto a sidewalk. There was a decent dash on the case, but no phone damage. Definitely worth it.
<Note3>
I love running the Note 3 naked. The only issue is that the back gets slippery at times. I had my first drop today ?. I like my Spigen case, but it's difficult to plug headphones in sometimes.

I run it naked as well. I'm actually more worried about scratching the display since I haven't dropped a phone in many years (knock on wood!). I've been contemplating getting the S view cover since it doesn't add to the thickness at all, but I use the phone so much it would be such a hassle to keep having to open it (and hold it open while using it).
I'm insanely ocd about the display because it somehow got scratched on my last phone (gnex) like a month after I bought it, just by putting it display side down on a table. It bothered the hell out of me for the following 23 months straight. Scratch resistant my ass.
I've tried a few glass screen protectors but they eventually peel away at the edges and it looks horrible. Suffice to say I'll never put ANY phone display side down again, and I always have a death grip on it when I'm using it...so I'm good to go.
Poetic Borderline bumper case because it's just enough protection without getting in the way. And it fits the slightly thicker Samsung wireless charging cover.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Spigen Glas-Tr slim to protect the screen and depending on my mood either a TPU or metal bumper. The back is like $10 to replace if it ever gets scratched up so I don't bother putting anything on the back except for a FlyGrip to help me one-hand the phone. I did order a white back so I go back and forth between them - the white back looks cool w a metal bumper.

I always thought the gnex had gorilla glass...??? That's why I'm so paranoid about this phone. I know it's obviously a much newer technology as far as the glass, but I'm paranoid nonetheless.
I would love to see a legitimate scratch test done. I could only find one test done and it was with a knife, and wasn't really that clear. When the hell would I ever scratch the display with a knife?!?
They need to do some common sense, real world testing...i.e. putting the phone in and out of jean pockets with the metal rivets on them, and with keys and other objects in the pocket. Also placing it display side down on different surfaces and moving it around, etc.

Next day went and bought creen protector. I hate that because even if the screen is unbreakable, you can scratch it.
I do think that in normal use, that won;t happen but you you have a wife that loves sand ... and shells ... take care and good luck. I believe that sand will scratch that screen.
I would kill my wife
Gorilla glass is not unscratchable or unbreakable. Its advertised as stronger and less likely to scratch, but how much more stronger and scratch durable? My dell streak's gorilla glass shattered from a 3 foot faceplant. Granted it has a bigger surface area, it still shouldn't have shattered.
I never remove the factory screen cover until I have a skinomi or other type of protector ready to install.

There's also been three reported screen fractures. Two from falls, one from sitting on it. So it's definitely not unbreakable. I've got a Zagg Invisible Shield full body suit on mine. As far as encasing your phone in vinyl goes, it looks pretty good. It's dead if I drop it but at least it will die pretty.
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield...es-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php
I stopped using screen protectors when I got a DHD and never had any scratches on it, nor have I on my SGS2. That said, I treat the phone like it's my baby! I suppose accidents can happen to anyone though.
Regards.
Having a screen protector will actually reduce chances of a glass shatter tremendously cause of the fact that the adhesive quality of any screen protector keeps the glass together making it less prone of shattering.
As far as scratches go, gorilla glass is definitely more resistant to scratches, but it never hurts to put a scratchguard on it, does it!

I'm interested to know how that full body suit works. Surely with the back not being a flat surface you can't put a protector on it like a screen? Also, does it protect the edges?

No protector is totally invisible. You can make up your own mind.

after one day, i was in my car and put my HTC One at the back seat
suddenly the phone slipped under the seat and got stuck between the seat and the trunk
when i got it out look how much the phone damaged
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Be careful with the HTC One its Aluminum casing is really fragile and it will get damaged with a small impact
i don't like cases because it will make the slim phone chunky and will make it feel cheap (plastic cheap)
but after all its a phone and these things happen, but take a lesson from my experience and make sure you are extra careful.
Best Regards
Muhammad
Ouch looks annoying! You didn't need that many photos to show us the damage though lol
If it was in a case it wouldn't have got messed up like that
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
If it had a glass back panel it would have most likely shattered. If it had a plastic surround (vs. metal) it's likely there would have been scuffs or gouges on the plastic with "white" showing through. Certain drops/falls on certain materials are going to affect every phone to some degree.
double flip cover...
Strange I have dropped my phone often and not 1 scratch. It even one time flow out of my jeans when I wanted to take them off and not 1 scratch. I bought one of those 0.3mm cases from eBay just in case next time it will damage my phone. Your phone is ugly as **** now.
Throw on a Speck Candy Shell case, problem solved.
It's aluminium, soft but light, this is bound to happen if you drop it. Since you have now damaged it twice already clearly you are one of those clumsy types and should have got a cover for it after the first incident. I don't trust myself and bought a cover before I got the phone. Not a scratch on mine after 3 months now.
Learning the hard way, don't blame the phone for how much it breaks, you're the one dropping it.
You guys act like you didn't even read his post. He clearly knows aluminum is a soft metal, and it dents easily. He's clearly saying "Don't think it's indestructible because it's metal".
I don't use a case either. I dropped my phone onto a concrete floor from about 5 inches and it got a slight ding in it.
If you have one, you can take a fine file and kind if blend the blemish in. So it doesn't look so "ugly"
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Similar to the blemish I acquired by dropping mine on concrete from 3 feet. I feel like my phone faired really well, considering. Sure a little nick in the corner but this phone is overall very tough. I filed mine down a bit with a nail file, made it smooth. Not gonna stay new forever and maybe a year down the road I'll convert my whole phone to red!
Sandpaper of various grades - I think you can fix it. You won't make it invisible but less visible - for sure.
Get a transparent case preferably to show off the phone. You could have avoided this easily.

Simple common sense. The damage displayed is perfectly in line with the falls/slips experienced.
This doesn't make this phone any weaker than you'd expect from a phone. Last place I'd leave my phone is loose in a car, it would be silly to not expect it to fall, slip, get damaged. Also, if I dropped the phone onto marble, I'd be thankful it didn't break the screen.
If you don't want to damage *any* phone, don't drop it, keep it secure and stick a case on it.

This phone does not damage easily.
You can be less careful with this phone.
Aluminum is soft, but not as soft as plastic.
Get a 0.3 mm case. That'll solve the (potential) problem.

None. You don't need a screen protector on this phone unless you live in a sandy or dusty area. Or you never clean your phone with a moist microfiber cloth, which stops finger oil salts from accumulating.
In which case, I've heard Mime makes some good stuff. It keeps the glass feel. A little expensive though.
The reason I ask about the screen protector is because I already have a small surface scratch on the screen and don't want that to happen again..

Mine broke after two weeks, but if you get a crack it doesn't spread easily. Have some more cracks now after 4 months use, it's not the best design choice. Still, it's a ridiculously good buy and you can always change the back plate easily!

I don't really think it fell, it just broke from pressure in my pocket. Probably had it mixed together with keys etc.
The important thing is, the screen doesn't get scratched at all, no matter how much abuse it gets. I bought an original bumper for it, but I found it to be unwieldy because it's already a big phone, so I don't really use it.

Haven't broken the glass yet, the First 2 months I had the phone it was unprotected. In that time I had 1 scratch under the nexus logo and a few on the Gorilla Glass 2 front panel. After putting a case and a screen protector on it, I dropped the phone (accidently) around 4 times in the last few months
1st time was around the end of June.
I dropped the phone on a surface like this:

I dropped it from my hand around 3 feet above the surface.
It landed straight on the front. It had a Ringke Fusion Case and a screen protector installed.
There was no damage at all.
2nd Time I clearly remember I was shining in someones eye with the flash light (most of you probably know how bright it is),
her natural reaction was to hit the phone and it slid around 10 feet away, it still had the same case on.
The phone tossed a few times on the surface back and forth
No Damage.
I was really impressed.
I luckily never dropped it without a case.
I have no idea how the phone holds without a case.
I suggets putting at least a screen protector on it, because you will get scratches.
Not from keys or metal, but from sand. Also the back will get scratches as well if you don't protect it (Even faster as it isn't gorilla glass).

So, it was an unfortunate day for me. My Note 2 (GT-N7100) slipped from my hand from a height of just 1.5 feet (approx.). I had a flip cover installed. As I was walking, I as holding the device chest-high (i'm 5'10"). That was the height when the phone slipped form my hand. reacting in milliseconds, I tried to get hold of my beloved Note2 and even caught the flap of the flip cover. But, to my bad luck, the locks of the flip opened, and the phone fell on concrete face down from a height of about 1.5 feet. I thought everything is fine, but as soon as I turned the device to see the display, I felt like hell. When I checked the device, I got to know that it was the front glass that was damaged, but the touch and everything was working just perfect.
Now, the guys at Samsung service center told me that whole touch will be replaced, and it will cost me INR 7000. On a little Googling, I came to know that the front glass can be changed manually, but after watching a YouTube video, i knew that I'm not going to follow that procedure myself. So, I've decided to get it done at the Samsung service. Cant imagine a single day without these kind of devices. I'll get the job done soon...
From the picture we can see where the bottom corner hit first.
Sucks but that's what's going to happen if you get a good corner impact.
Doesn't mean that GG is easily broken. Just means you had a spell of bad luck.
Not just Gorilla Glass.. 90% of the time any phone, with whatever type of glass will break from that type of drop.
Maybe with the arrival of the flexible displays, will finally see phones able to survive a drop..
The display is pasted with gum onto the glass. Both will have to be replaced, sorry about that.

Sorry to hear that mate.
I've never liked those flip cases as I've always thought they leave the phone pretty exposed. Maybe look into a normal type silicon (thin case) and perhaps a tempered glass screen protector.
Thankfully I've not dropped it to find out, but I've heard good things about a thin case + tempered glass screen protector if you don't want a super big protectivr case on it.
So sorry for you, all my friends have cracked displays, thank god i don't..
It's also so random, a friend dropped his phone (LG O2X) from about 30 cm's and it broke..
I threw my phone (LG O2X) against a wall multiple times, and i smacked in on the floor a few times, and it did not break...
Ya. I knew my luck was really bad
note 2 doesn't have GG2 anyways. i feel for you tho', broke my one x some time ago in the same way..

That's hard luck. My Note 2 has fallen from waist height face down onto bathroom tile but survived with no scratches and cracks, but a very very minute chip to the bottom left of the phone. Maybe I got REALLY lucky.
I think beyond a certain height, the phone cannot take a fall. Also, I refrain from using the flip cover because it makes one handed usage very hard ( and the causes of such falls to be honest ).

someone reported the same thing less than an hour after getting it. I feel they could have designed around that a bit better. Tempered glass always does terrible in corners. A couple of MM extra metal at the corners could probably save a bunch of phones.
Understandable. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B1I6J0E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 and I'm worried it's not gonna be enough for this phone. Already have two different ones on order.

i've got the rugged armor and it seems it should be fine, so i assume this would be ok too
This happens EVERY time a new phone is released. If anyone doesn't believe me, just go look at the other phones and you will see the same warnings when they were released. ALL of these kinds of phones are fragile to a certain degree. Anyone going without a good case is taking extra risk. Even a good case is no guarantee. Think of it this way, would you carry a laptop around without protection, drop it, and expect it not to eventually get damaged? When the next iPhone or S8 is released next year, other threads like this will show up early after their releases. If you drop it 2 inches or 2 feet...there is always a chance there will be damage. I don't think anyone drops it on purpose. That being the situation, I would think it would be a good move to put it in a case and at least improve the odds from the beginning.
I feel how it hurts. Can you post pics?
Mind you I have never broken a phone this early. And I've had lots phones without cases. Notably note4, LG g2, g3, gs3. All which I dropped many times.
I'll post pictures soon.

From this vid s7 edge looked like it shouldn't happen so easily https://youtu.be/GU8S_BjByKU maybe edge is more durable?
But it's not so bad and guy from video claims that back cover replacement costs ~30$ but anyway it's insurance problem. I wonder will water resistance still be present after such repair
Pics.

An 18 inch drop did that?
I already opened a claim, I don't want any issues with waterproofing. But if Samsung repair says they can do it for cheaper I might go with that option.

Thanks for posting. I'm definitely getting a case for it.
Isn't this what you people wanted? A premium feel at the expense of durability?
wow scary, first time ive heard of a phone ruined by being dropped now im definitely going to get a case and also place the phone inside 10 socks just in case

It's really not any more serious than chipping the paint or faux chrome on the edge bezels of previous Galaxy devices. I've owned the S3, S4 and S4 Mini. They look terrible after a year, even if you don't drop them. The S4 Mini is now over 2 years old and it's edge bezels look like the surface of the moon, and it's not from dropping it. That won't happen with the current generation of Galaxy devices.
At least the glass back on an S6 or S7 can be replaced to look like new. The edge bezels are part of the chassis. So, yeah, I'm fine with metal and glass.
i dropped my Xperia Z3 Compact a couple of times while standing, couple times onto wood floor, couple times onto tile. Never even scratched. Dropped it one day while at the pool onto this sort of uneven stone/sandstone kinda stuff from literally 2 or 3 INCHES, completely shattered the front glass. I mean total spiderweb destruction.
If just depends how you drop it and onto what surface.
Isn't it just bad luck either? I mean, I recently dropped my S6 and it also broke the glass (in the sense that the glass plate let loose and can now get dust under it). This was an innocent drop and it had falled quite a few times before already (before I was used to the slippery back of the thing) without any issues.
I've seen phones survive the most insane stuff only to get beaten by the bad luck of exactly hitting that part of the corner after a small drop.
Still sucks bigtime of course...
Lot of what's said is true. I still wonder how the waterproofing would be after repair.. of if the waterproofing would be OK with cracked glass.
I'm thinking the rear glass has no effect on the IP68 rating, when looking at the gs6 rear glass replacement video.
