How To Port Any ROM To TAB2
Things you will need installed on your PC
Notepad++
Winzip/Winrar
Q) What device should i port from?
Any Device
Base ROM and PORT ROM
Base ROM is what is Developed For Tab2
Port ROM is what ROM you want to port for Tab2
Note: If you are porting a CM(PORT) which is ICS the BASE should Be cm9... same for JB
Now Let's start Porting!
Extract the BASE ROM to a Folder named Base
Extract the PORT ROM to a Folder named Port
Open Base ROM and go to system folder
DELETE "app,fonts,framework,media"
Open Port ROM and go to system folder
COPY "app,fonts,framework,media"
and paste it in System folder of the Base ROM
Open Port ROM and go to etc folder
Open Permissions Folder copy everything EXCEPT handheld_core_hardware.xml and platform
and paste it in the etc folder of the BASE ROM
Open Base ROM and go to system/etc/init.d folder
DELETE all files except 00banner
Open Port ROM and go to system/etc/init.d Folder
COPY everything Except 00banner
and paste it in the init.d folder of the BASE ROM
Now open build.prop And edit
ro.build.display.id=add what you want here
ro.modversion=add what you want here
Now open build.prop of PORT ROM and find
ro.config.ringtone=
ro.config.notification_sound=
ro.config.alarm_alert=
COPY there 3 lines and replace them in the BASE ROM's build.prop
Now Open updater-script
scroll down and find the lines starting with set_perm (there will be lots of them!)
Copy only those lines From PORT ROM's updater-script to BASE ROM's updater-script
If You find any extra file or folder in system folder of PORT rom than copy them to your base rom system folder.
Open updater-script from PORT ROM and copy all the set_perm lines and replace them with the lines in BASE ROM
To prevent bootloop copy
libandroid_runtime.so
libandroid_servers.so
libmedia_jni.so
from system/lib in PORT ROM and REPLACE it with the files in system/lib of BASE ROM
Now ZIP the ROM and flash it

No, if I am not wrong
For stock this won't work. But you can try if you want to..
So you can't use stock rom as the BASE and port a rom from a different device but same family? I'm wondering because there is almost no development on the Sprint tab 2 10.1" (P500) and I would LOVE to put SlimKat on this device. I loved SlimBean on my Nexus S 4g. How would I go about porting the custom rom to my device without using a stock rom as BASE? Thanks

MY-UI cyan
finaly a complete relise, no major changes mainly theming. mizui and Frozen winter theme eliments used, new boot screen and some changes in apps. original web browser is back as i was unhappy with the porformance of opera when running from system files. a stable vestion of miui player added instead of ttpod to keep the miui theme. original file manager reinstated.
This is a full relise and I will now be working on a more complex rom.
hope you enjoy the rom. . . see you when MY-Ui2 is relised.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3d gallery is replaced with picturen.
Music player is now ttpod.
Dialer is now touchpal.
Browser is now opera mini.
Also added
LG keyboard
Kik messanger and whatsapp.
The reason for this is to give you a free messaging service, the best being kik, but also whatsapp that is blackberry compliant. I'm also avalible on kik for quick questions.
And many other changes I've probably forgotten to list
UNDER THE HOOD
This rom is deoxed, rooted and running v6 supercharger. A few other minor changes too.
Im also including a theme for tencent launcher that will bring all icons inline with miui. I would advise you use it to get the full effect.
This is still a test rom so not everything is finished yet. but only a few things are left to do.
How To install.
kpn or kpn based rom needed.
Install cwm.
Flash zip with cwm.
Your done.
Notes
Rom apears slow on first boot while system sorts its self out, dont panic!
This is still a test, stable but a test. An early relise if you will.
Hope you enjoy. . .
About the apps, have you tried to update them via android market? If not just try it... If there is no update available then just reinstall them...
I had the same problem when cooking a rom for myself... & updating them solved the problem....
They work fine. But the minute i move the to the system apps folder they force close.
Yeah. Rw-r--r-- still no change. They work fine installed on the card. Its really odd. I thought it might be the gallery apk interfering. But even tryed removing that to no effect.
you need to put the libs files from quickpic in /system/lib.
if you do this, it should work
Looks great. Are you gonna put miui launcher in this rom?
I'll try adding the libs file later when im at my pc.
To put miui launcher on would mean porting miui completely. Its my first rom, not that good. Tencent that im using is the closest i've found. Will give the look and feel of miui fairly well.
Take the AOKP rom control apk and place it under system/app.
If there's an app there named ROM control or whatever that makes it obvious its ROM control, then delete it and the odex file with it if there is one.
Also, this doesn't guarantee you will have fully functional ROM control, there may be more files needed or you may just have to flash an AOKP ROM for our device and remove w/e you don't want, but I see that you may be using this ROM as a base b/c of the working video cam.
You just have to experiment and think about it, I've done this before but it was months ago. I might do it again soon for myself.
Hey there, this morning, i was on Ace thread, looking for a CM Rom to port to our phone, then, i saw on the ace thread " 4.2.2 jb mr1 ..." i looked the thread then i saw a sweet rom AOKP based. I thinked " It should be great if we can port it to Galaxy Y " So i thinked about that all school time and, correct me if i'm wrong But aokp is like CyanogenMod i meant, i think we need first a Pure AOKP rom ( used as base ) then port the " 4.2.2 jb mr1 " rom from Ace. So there is my question : " Is there any way to build this " Pure AOKP " rom for our Galaxy Y ? " Simple questio, sorry if anyone think that's a newbie question. I've just a thing in mind
So i suppose it's kindly hard to build an AOKP rom because of the libs used in AOKP are from Quadcomm that's it ? Or no... ? However, i think The Galaxy Ace have approximatly the same hardware as a Y. ( maybe a Qualcomm CPU ) ?
Aw, i got it So if we take AOSP Gingerbread by Spacecacker as base, we can easily make a AOKP Rom by theme it and tweak it no ?
But we can't have all of the AOKP Settings right ?
Even if i know i Android Dev. We just net to add few codes and. Jar basically. The suestion is. " Do the .jar are fonctionnal on Galaxy Y ? " i don't think so isn't it ?
Let me correct you both.
Basically AOSP means pure android, compiled from AOSP Google source.
AOKP ROMs are based off AOSP, but include many mods and tweaks.
Some come from all over the place, hence the name 'kang'. They are compiled originally from AOSP sources but highly modified.AOSP is pure Google android.
AOKP is a custom ROM project, like CM based on AOSP.
We need an Ics AOSP first, then AOKP shall run. It's not so easy as you think.
I don't think it's easy man, don't say that i just thinked about that few times ago when i saw cool AOKP Roms one Ace or even high-end Android phone like the S3. Then i started to think and i was right when i said AOKP Roms need first a Stable base like CM's Roms
Me too, so tired of the Samsung one and all the other 3rd party dialers. Android police do have an article describing that it should work on most phones by pushing to priv-app and setting permissions, but no luck here. I'm getting it to work by installing normally but no calls then.. And no point..
Is the kernel the more easy part? It would be excellent, if you could make it as soon as possible. :good:
Share the kernel from your 4.4.2 rom and i will look into it.
But here is a good tip: use a CM11 kernel from s2 and change the framework, libs etc. Trust me to make it boot you dont need to focus that much on kernel but more on the files in the rom. So start by porting, i am sure you will get bootloop in first attemt so adb a logcat and take it from there. I sure hope you can adb.
