Teal Screen After Flashing Any ROM? [GS4 ATT] - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello XDA-
I have an i337 Galaxy S4 with MK2 firmware. I got Safestrap 3.71 for recovery bypassing and I have a really strange issue. It seems no ROMs that I flash a successful. Ever. I've tried AOSP ROMs, Cyanogen, etc. When I just tried installing Cyanogen I went to ROM slot 1, wiped it of everything except the external SD card, went to install, selected the .zip for MY device off of the external SD, flashed it, and when I reboot I get a teal screen with pulsing pink/brown lines on it. The same applies when I do any other ROM, except sometimes I just get a black screen that endlessly loop reboots.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

You can't flash aosp or cm roms in safe strap. They have to be touch wiz based.

Ahh, are you serious? Safestrap is the only working recovery bypass on my MK2 firmware, ugh. Hopefully Samsung eventually unlocks the bootloader. Well, I'm off to looking for a TouchWiz based ROM then.
Thanks!

You can, however, install Google Edition ROMs, I believe. Search through the Safestrap thread to make sure, but that should allow you a relatively AOSP-like experience.

That's all I wanted, a clean Google ROM. I can't find any that actually work though. :/
Let me know if you find any. Thanks.

@nhannon9 Check this thread by @guut13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221 and look for Blackbox v2.2.1 and pretty clean AOSP rom ...... Read that MK2 INDEX thread ..... anything u should know about MK2...... Goodluck. ....
EDIT : @mattdm I believed that we can't install any 4.3 GPE yet on MK2 + SSV3.71. The closest AOSP experience are Blackbox v2.2.1 from International S4 I9505 .....:thumbup::thumbup:

Have you tried this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47718525
It's not Kitkat, but it's still nice and clean.
Also, make sure you're using the correct version of Safestrap. One version 3.65 is for MF3 users, and version 3.71 is for MK2 users.

As @ted77usa said, no GPE ROMs work. All he'll get from that is bootloops and disappointment.

I've seen many people in the past months reporting that they're running GPE ROMs on Safestrap with no problems. Has something changed recently that I don't know about?
EDIT: Ah, I didn't see his edit up there. Sorry for giving false hope! I don't keep up with the Safestrap scene much since I have a Loki'd S4.

Yeah. If you have an MF3 S4 then you can run a 4.2.2 GE ROM, but us on MK2 are out of luck for a full AOSP experience unless an exploit is implemented.

Can we get some links for 4.2.2 GE roms for mf3

Or, you could go search for them? That's why there's a search function. It's not there for looks and it works. We don't need all these threads posting and asking for other members to look for something for you. It's not hard to find them.

[Q] Mf3 S4 flashed GE ota updates?

Kind of a long shot but I recently flashed ge 4.2.2 stock ROM on my s4 i337 mf3 using safestrap. I happen to notice an ota update from Google. Is there any way I can install this? I tried a bunch of searches but nothing came up that sounds like what I am trying to do.
Nope, won't work.

Thanks for the reply, I thought that seemed too good to be true. MF3 is killing my first experience with android.
Thats pretty much it? no other options?
Check out Safestrap for recovery, but your limited on what ROM is available. And do more reading before you brick your phone. Good luck.

The main Safestrap thread(s) should answer your questions about what can or can not be done with MF3.

The reason you can't is that the locked bootloaders won't allow you to flash modified kernel. Safe strap only allows ROMs with stock kernels. Like the guy said read the safe strap thread thoroughly.

It's not really necessary to make a new thread and ask when there's a Safestrap discussion thread, and if you would have read you would know that pretty much any 4.2.2 Touchwiz ROM works for you on MF3 and even Google Edition ROMs. Next time, search more before you post.

ATT S4 KitKat 4.4.2 - Is Cyanogenmod possible? alts...

Hi All,
Appreciate the guides and community here. Looking for a little help on my ATT S4 KitKat 4.4.2. It's rooted via Towelroot.
I want to run a custom rom that isn't slow. I have Odin, proper Samsung USB drivers.
1) Can CNW be used on my phone to boot to recovery? If not, what are the alternatives and how do I use them (is there a guide you can share)?
2) Do I have NC1 on my phone, what the heck is NC2, NC1-what does this mean, is it relevant?
Thanks all
-Christian
If you have updated your phone to the att 4.4.2 firmware then you should be on NC1 which means you cannot put cwm or any CM rom. The only recovery you can use is safestrap. After that you can only flash rooms the specifically say safestrap compatible and you must flash the att_nc1 module after flashing rom for WiFi to work. Read the safestrap thread under the development section before doing anything.

Yes, I would also read over All Things ATT/MK2 etc in General--:good:
Those numbers NC1 etc are your build version. Can be found under Settings/About Phone. It will dictate what you can and can't do on your phone--We have no NC2 yet. :good:

Thanks. I have nb1. No luck getting safe strap to take. Install completes but does not recognize status as installed or allow boot to recovery.
I have rooted, supersu, busybox, and no luck with safestrap. Any ideas.
Upon booting I notice an icon that looks like a unlocked lock beneath the samsung logo. Touching it does nothing...
Thanks for getting back to me

I don't use safestrap. So not sure. Did you wipe all including system. And flash to correct slot. Stock slot I believe. Use correct safestrap. Also need sellinux, spelling? The lock is suppose to be there if rooted. Read the last 20 pages of the hash code safestrap thread plus the op. And same on All Things ATT/MK2 in General. May give some ideas. ☺

Aha! Safestrap running and custom ROM installed. Is there an index comparing all Safestrap/Touchwiz based roms? Runnign SHO right now and it's pretty bland (resolution looks low too).
I'm looking for something like a stock nexus experience with WiFi tethering.
thanks for the help mates

Not sure on index. Best though to try them yourself as they don't always work the same on different phones.

Iam all for custom ROMS. I made one for the Tab3. If all you want is the stock Nexus experience, you could just download the Google Now Launcher which is Google release the AOSP launcher. Then if you want the individual AOSP apps, you can do a search here or a google search, and you will find XDA threads that provide the apps with installation instructions.

[Q] Updated my AT&T S4 to 5.0.1, what now?

Everything is all good, running stock. I wasn't able to do much other then use odin to update. Now I'm in a pickle. No root and I don't know how to get any kind of recovery installed. So much is out of date that one forum will say something works even though it no longer does. I could maybe use odin to get back to an older version if it doesn't brick, maybe then I can't start over? I need root and I would like to have a CM12 nightly but I don't know where to begin. Is there anything I could do?
You could use guut13's guide found in the general forum. You can have rooted oc3 to remove bloat and do other things, and if you install safestrap while still on 4.4.x, you can use it to do some stuff before you update. But nothing specific to 5.0.1 is available yet.

I'm in the safestrap recovery can I install CM12 from here?
download cyanogenmod Samsung Galaxy S4 (AT&T) - jflteatt / nightly
Is this the right one, it wont let me add links
I've done a lot of this with a sprint S3 but I never had to deal with a locked bootloader before.
I'm guessing locked bootloader means only modified stock. Is that true? I figured if I could get a recovery on there, then I would be golden.
