Hi all, not sure where to put this but I stupidly updated my MobileIron app last week and now I'm getting messages that my phone is rooted. My phone isn't rooted but I am using a custom ROM. I did the full unroot using SuperSU and it was working perfectly fine the past year until this update. I'm hoping that someone reading this will have not updated their MobileIron and would be able to send me the apk file so I can revert back. I'm on 5.9.0.0.151R so I'll try anything older than that. Post a link or PM me if you have it. I would really appreciate it! Thanks.
As a word of advice for anyone whose company forces them to use MobileIron, if it works for you now, don't update it ever!

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but I figured I'd post this experience I had trying to upgrade the firmware on my Sprint Galaxy tab so that other might benefit.
Here goes; I got a brand new galaxy tab with the dj30 firmware on it. I rooted it and did the wifi supplicants trip to get adhoc networks going. Nothing too strange. Then the system tried to auto updated itself to ea24 which I let it. But after I checked it it seems that the upgrade couldn't get through. This process would repeat itself on a regular basis.
I didn't think much about it until I heard that netflix could be played on certain android devices and I of course wanted to play it on my tab. I side loaded it, changed the system props and saw that it still couldn't play. My first attempt to load a custom rom(the ginger for gsm failed, yes I know they're incompatible)which bricked the phone. What then followed was an orgy of flashing anything vaguely related to the tab to get it to at least power on. The only thing that would work was the dj30 base image.
Now I'm back to square one except that my navigation system no longer works so I flash modem.bin from ea24 which fixed the gps. My tab tried to auto update itself to ea24 like it usually tries to do but this time SUCCESS!. Then two more ota updates came after that and worked just as well.
I think flashing the modem might have been what got the upgrade process going.
Sorry if this is a little long I just figured it might be useful to anyone in the same situation.
Can you Pls point me in the direction to get thus modem? I too am having this problem. [email protected]. Pls email it to me if you have. THANKS

Hey Cruton. Seems you and I are in the same position. I'm also stuck on DJ30. Managed to upgrade to rooted gingerbread, but market and browser fc no matter what I try. Your suggestion is something I haven't tried yet. Could you elaborate a bit more? I tried flashing modem.bin (from the EA24 updater) but it freezes up. Do I load it under "phone" in odin? Also, which version were you using?
Cruton. Thank you so much for going through the effort of posting your experience. You have saved my tab. I didn't know what to do anymore. Your trick worked, received all updates OTA and then I received gingerbread OTA. Everything stable and running after two weeks of trying absolutely everything (as I was in EXACTLY the same position as you, so you know how frustrating it is). I wish I could buy you a beer man. Thanks again.

I haven't had trouble with the market or the browser. I believe it was version 1.7 of Odin and I put modem.bin into the Phone section. Interestingly I had to repeat this entire process when the gingerbread update was out. I had to try 3 times with flashing modem.bin because it kept freezing up but it went through eventually. Good luck.
Just curious, when I first got got the phone and rooted twice, I became unable to perform profile/prl update along with software update checking as well. I also couldn't do a ##786 or ##72786. I really want to root again with MF9 to do the hotspot mod. Anyone els ecome across this issue and can offer any advice I would really appreciate it.

I use aosp 95% of the time I've had my GS4 and I never update prl/pro and I have lte when other people who are completely stock tw don't and have to update to get it. Not sure what your issue was, all tw have the option to update pro/prl maybe something was up with Sprint..? I've had no issues using Aosp and we have some killer roms (official) for this device! Maybe someone else will have a solution to this.. I used Chainfires auto root twice and always was able to update em.

The error I get which I forgot to mention is "session in progress, please try again later". it only does this while rooted. I can immediately unroot and flash back to stock and everything works perfectly.
I've seen that a few times but I immediately hit update again and everything works fine.
Oh and I'm always rooted.

Total Noob here as evident in this being my first post, but googling about how to NOT installl this Kit Kat update that has popped up on my Verizon Note 3 today has brought me here.
Is there any way I can disable this update from happening? I have heard great things about rooting and custom ROMS, and have heard that updating may jeopardize this.
So can I turn off Verizon's ability to update my phone? I delayed this, but my Note 3 wants to install the files it downloaded at 2 a.m.
Can someone give me a crash course to help me, and/or a quick way to prevent this?
Many Thanks.
Step 1 - Root your phone

This method has worked for me twice. Latest was today:
youtube.com/watch?v=ukajWoxI3Tg&index=12&list=PLSQtCJEhU8pillzM7CZlSqFwApt7tKeWV
SKIP ALL THE STUFF ABOUT ODIN AND FLASHING FIRMWARE!!!! If you are stock JB, you don't need to do this part.
Then to get all the Chinese stuff off your phone, follow this tutorial:
youtube.com/watch?v=L5ebYM9CDkI&index=13&list=PLSQtCJEhU8pillzM7CZlSqFwApt7tKeWV
Finally, Install titanium backup, and freeze the program that is trying to force and over the air update. I came to the forum looking for the name of that file. Best I can find so far is: LocalFOTA v2_1308_1_1 -- but there my be others. Come back to the forum when you're rooted and search for it.
Best of luck!

The best way to not update it, is to not update it. It isn't automatic. But after updating mine, my phone is better than ever. Noticeably faster transitions & animations, and great battery. Everything works better with 4.4.2 than it did with 4.3.

I don't use Gmail, so I don't know if it's working or not. I'm using Mailbox and it does have that feature and it works. Even has a multi-level zoom w/ text wrapping.

The only way you can really stop it is to root and delete a file called sdm 1.0. That is the update checker. But if you are going that far you might as well install a custom rom. There are several good kk roms available now. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that if you ever want to root, you can't take the ota. There will probably never be a root method for the ota version. The leaked nc2 build is kk that is rooted by default and is the base for all available kk roms.

Hello guys I have been struggling for a couple days after my phone was soft bricked and I was searching for a nandroid backup of the US version Virgin mobile backup. I have finally found one, thanks to a friend whos name I really dont know...
If you have time to Read through my whole post then go ahead otherwise I will post the backup link below...
So it it all started when I got my HTC Desire 816 from virgin mobile, and the day I got it I was so impressed by the phone... snappy processor and excellent display as well as the speakers.. I then went on rooting the device and installed a custom recovery CWM, and started experimenting from there. What came around and bit me in the butt is the fact that I have been using an iPhone (5s 64GB) for Virgin Mobile and completely forgot about the whole android backup/restore system that was designed in the custom recovery... I have gone back and forth between apple and android devices but i have always found myself back using android and my experience with it has been remarkable.. I have bricked many devices before but not once have I ever bricked and one of my devices ( Galaxy S2, Galaxy s3, Volt, ) to a point where it became a expensive paperweight. In other words every bricked device I had i found a solution to unbrick it. This was the case with the HTC desire 816 as well. My original intent was to get the Galaxy s5 from Virgin Mobile but the same day I found out that Virgin Mobile released a new phone the HTC desire 816 and for half the price of the s5. I know it was destiny and the same day I bought the htc desire 816. I bragged to my friends that this is a new phone that just came into the us and only Virgin mobile has this phone. The negative part to having a phone that was just released into US are the fact that there are no accessories for this phone in any stores in the US, and everything needs to be bought online, and the second part is that no online forums have yet to talk about the US version of this phone.
I am now beggining to get to the part of my adventure with the HTC Desire 816. If you have read everything so far, i can only say that this will be over soon.,,, lol So after rooting the HTC desire 816, I looked through many forums looking for information about tweaks and apps for this phone. Since i have been using an iphone ffor the last couple months I forgot all the tweaks and apps I used to use for my previous androids, and because of this i also forgot to create a nandroid backup of my device. This is when I came into trouble when i was removing bloatware from my device installed by virgin mobile, and I installed Titanium backup and I started freezing (Disabling) apps that i though i wouldnt need and that would cause my device to run slower. So here I am sitting at work messing around with my phone and deleting system apps. I ran into this app called HTC Blinkfeed and I thought that this app was like the others and just caused my device to run slower. Little that i knew that this following action would cause a snowball affect and screw me over. So right after I disabled HTC Blinkfeed I tried to go to my home page but i was greeted with a simple black screen. At this point my whole life would have been made easier if I just went back into the setiings and unfroze the app. But no i then restarted my phone and I was stuck on the HTC boot logo screen... I was so scared thinking that i bricked my device after only a week... I tried to enter recovery mode several times but I failed to, and the reason was that fastboot was on and the only way to turn off fastboot was to disable that in the settings... At that point I knew that my phone was bricked and I am screwed... thank goodness that htc has a built in feature where that if the bootloader is tampered with and the usb cable is connected to a computer then it automatically goes into recovery mode. At that point I started to looking through threads about HTC Blinkfeed being disabled and what should i do next. After no success in the HTC Desire 816 forum I went onto looking to the HTC one m8 (Sprint) forum because i knew that these phone are closely alike. No success there either and I started thinking of other alrternatives... I though that if i found a flashable zip of htc blinkfeed that flashing that through recovery would fix this problem. But unfortunately it did not. I was very disappointing about this phone, and the only help i could find was about indian and chinese versions of this phone. I contacted HTC and asked them if they had a backup or RUU for this phone and VM version but no luck there. I then found a nandroid backup of this device... but it was a thailand version and i decided that I might as well of just install that and use it as a tablet with wifi.... That worked well and the phone was restored and working... but now i had no service and running in a foreign language. I started looking and messaging members who posted on xda about having problems with the hTC desire 816 VM variant. I couldnt find any help there and I went to anther forum in search for help. I searched through youtube videos and messages members there asking for their help... not a single person responded and I was stuck using a fancy wifi tablet phone. then I started searching for this phone on Craigslist hoping that someone was selling this phone in my local area hoping that it was rooted and that they could help me out. I only found 1 post of this phone in craigslist for virgin mobile and he lived about 200-300 miles away. I started text messaging him asking about the phone and he said that it was not rooted.... I knew that my luck ran out and that was my last straw and I should wait untill this phone came out of sprint and then i would surely find a backup. I started texting this person and it came out that he is also well versed in the art of the root... lol he knew about rooting and recovery and ruus... I started asking him if he could create a backup of the device and after a very long conversation he said that he would give it a shot. I thought that this was a typical excuse to get me off him. So i deicded to keep on searching for other ways to fix this issue. I found a post of the RUU for europe and thought that I could install it and maybe this version would work. I then talked to some staff on a different forum and they told me that I should not under any circumstances install a ruu for a different version of this device and that it could fry my phone. I then thought that perhaps running a Thailand backup would fry my sim card and then i was left hopeless of every having this phone workingt again.
Then I receive a message from my CL friend saying that he rooted the device and he is creating a backup... that was the best news i have heard and i knew that this could revive my phone. The worst thing about it was that my friend had 100 kb/s upload speed and the backup was 2GB.... It took several hours and his computer froze... So i had to wait another couple hours after that before his backup was uploaded.
I am proud to say that my faith in humanity is restored and I have a working HTC Desire 816! I dont know this persons name but I am very happy that there are people on this planet that would go out of there way to help another person. I have learned alot through this experience and I hope that this backup of the US version will help you too! Link will be posted below.

I don't think this comes directly from a VM variant but I know the CWM posted there worked for our phones. The stock recovery is probably the same for all 816's.
Again, this is just an assumption so please take it as it is.

Hello. I risenly bought an desire 816 from virgin mobile, and i bought and unlock code from a page. The problem is that when i insert other sim card the unlock screen don't appear. I factoy reset the phone but still nothing.
So this only my devise or is the same for all or what iam missing?
Hi everyone!
I'm new so bear with me, please.
I have an AT&T S4 that had been unlocked even though I use it on AT&T. I rooted my device specifically to remove bloatware that came with it. Which I did. Eventually though I grew wary and decided I wanted to take everything back to stock like it was when I first got the phone. Didn't have any luck. After some research on here I found that I needed to flash it to NB1 using Odin and that's what I did. The phone booted fine, setup fine and even began updating apps. My problem is that it won't let me update to NJ4 again. The Software updater claims that there is no updates available when I know clearly there is. I'm not sure what I may have done wrong but I could use any help that anyone is willing to provide.
P.S. I rooted using Towelroot v3 following this method in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/how-to-root-i337ucufnj4-4-4-4-11-13-2014-t2939553/post56738573#post56738573
Thanks in advance!
Troubleshooting section of first post of the thread you linked has steps to manually update to NJ4
i followed the guide mentioned .. I had to sideload the update as OTA was not detected by the phone
Now everything is working like a charm
OP, try this and all will be good
Solved
Thanks for the replies everyone, some very helpful information. Ironically, it seemed to have fixed itself this morning. I put it in it's usual place on the nightstand and when I awoke this morning, the notification was there and it successfully updated to 4.4.4 and everything seems to be going smoothly.
Thanks again for the quick replies. Should I ever need additional assistance I now know what forum I can turn to.
