[Q] Bricked LG P705 - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping someone on here can help me. My home button doesn't work and I wiped my system and boot partitions. So currently there's no ROM on the phone and I can't get into download mode or anything. The other thing is, when I turn the phone I see "static" over the entire screen. I've attached a image showing this.

Is your home button broken due to a software error or a hardware error?

Hardware I think, all of the other buttons work apart from that one. I'm tempted to order a new one online but I'm not sure if that'll help much.
Do you think I could use a KDZ flasher to get the stock ROM back on it if I had a working home button?

If your home button is working, you can do everything. I'm afraid that you won't get far with a broken one. Are you planning on ordering a new phone or a new home button online?

I'm getting a Nexus 5 in about 2 weeks but I think I might order a home button online aswell just so I can have a backup phone for when my nexus dies while I'm out.

I personally recommend you to not buy a new home button for your phone. You can't mount it on yourself unless you have some experience in engineering first of all, and secondly your Nexus 5 outsmarts P705 in so much ways that we could lose count. Save your money and arrange a funeral for your phone.

They're about $11 on ebay and they just clip in. I don't see how that would be hard to replace but thanks.

In that case, disregard what I said and if you have some money left over, go ahead and buy it. If you need anymore help, don't be afraid to ask!

[Q] Pattern Locked out (SOLVED)

Hey all, I am new to the forum and the android OS, but have some knowledge of unlocking etc (I unlocked my iPhone)... I don't want to unlock my phone but all I want to do it wipe it and start fresh with a stock OS etc. I want to be able to send it in for warranty if needed, so my question is, can I somehow get past this pattern lockout myself? Or do I need to send the phone in and get a new one. As it stands, my replacement phone won't be here till NEXT weds (9.8.10) and that is just toooo long. Any noob help is appreciated!
FYI: I did some research already and d/l'd the Android SDK and JavaSE etc. But dont know where to go from there.
Thanks again!
with the phone off try press and hold volume up and down together then press power button and hold till you get Vibrant screen then use up and down arrows to highlight and power to select factory data reset.

[Q] How to fix touch sensitive buttons?

i picked up this epic with clean esn from someone who upgraded ...
now the reason he wanted to get rid of the phone is that the touch sensitive buttons on the front no longer work
there are no obvious signs of damage to the screen or any were else on it so i figured what the hades.
so now Ive got a toy to see if i can get working.
i was wondering if any one managed to figure out a way to fix such buttons i haven't opened the phone yet as i cant find my precision screwdrivers.
The buttons do react when pressed but the phone dosnt seem to get the message
so once i pick up a new set of screw drivers what should i try first in fixing the buttons?

This sounds more like a software problem than a hardware problem to me. Have you tried doing an ODIN back to stock?
yes once though maybe if i try a 2nd time it will take
edit1
well when i say react i mean that they flash when touched no haptic feed back but since i havent played with an epic before i dont know if it dose do that on the touch buttons
edit 2 well just do another flash with odin and still dont work im thinking about trying a 3rd pary rom to see if that will make a diff worst case ill take it apart

To get haptic feedback go to settings>sound> and at the bottom press vibration intensity. See if that helps.

Activate it on your account and then after a few days take it into a sprint store and they can order you a referbished one for $35

You got a lemon. When the Epic was first released, there were some units shipped with faulty hardware. Their on-screen buttons would not work reliably. (There were several threads about this at the time.) The remedy was to get Sprint to replace the phone with a new one. That's what I did while I was still within my buyer's remorse period. The new phone's buttons have worked fine.
Do they even light up/respond? If they don't light up, the connector for the buttons might not even be plugged in or damaged, you could take it apart -it doesn't void your warranty.
they respond ie they light up when touched i am tempted to do as quick swap and haul it to the sprint store and fuss at them
well if i went to the corperate store they might let me trade it in on a refurb but dont know if that would work

CWM has a button tester. It will tell you if anything is actually being registered. But other then that Sprint will replace for free if you have TEP.

No, I mean what did you do to break it? Or was it like that when you bought it? If so, far easier to take it back.
it was like that when i bought it
Then it's probably far easier to take it back, as we can't tell what's actually wrong with it.

just return it to your seller and ask for replacement...
Boot takes quite while. How long did you wait before giving up? Also does it have a full battery charge? You might try booting it up while it is plugged in and charging.
left it on for an hour just wont boot up my daughter bought it of ebay with that fault on it thinkin i would be able to fix it but i no nothing about these things

OK, well in that case, I suggest you search the board for the Chinese update.zip fix and instructions, then look in the full package and update thread. Read EVERYTHING about them, then try the steps described to fix the device.
You could also try grabbing the new 3.1 official (leaked) update, copy it to an external SD card, and boot in to recovery (Power + -Vol button (the left side of the volume rocker).
Alright...which one of you early A500 hackers sold this guy's daughter your bricked A500?
thanks to all managed to sort it out
Well? Do tell!

stuck at asus spinning circle

Stock tablet, no root or super kernel etc..
Last update done. still the RR on effects, excepts, now it wont start again.
I'm stuck at the spinning circle.
How can i fix that ?
Or i'm seriously thinking of throwing that &*@# back to asus.
Anyone on the same boat ?
So when you power it off and power it on again, it freezes sometime during the ASUS boot animation every time?

Yes, always the spinning circle, not freezed, always spinn, nothing more.. until battery die i suppose.
What are the first few characters of your serial number, because you're probably going to have to NVFlash that, if your device will allow it.

It is one of the first, i don't have it right now, i'll have to look at the box, cause the sticker is not there anymore.
If i have to do something out of the usual, i'll just send it back to asus.. this is a non working unit that need to be repair, or replaced, or they can put it where i think.

ok i'll try this at home, i'll plug it before to be sure.
and i'll came back to you.
If you have one of the early units, it should definitely be NVFlashable. The symptoms sound like a system file or system files have been corrupted. NVFlashing the unit with a "known good" image should correct that. Unless there are hardware problems as well, I would not send it in for warranty repair, because there is always a chance that it comes back with more hardware problems than it currently has, whether due to bad technical work or due to transit. With an NVFlash-capable device, almost all software problems can be resolved on our own.

Yes, try baseballfanz suggestion first. It's worth a shot, and it's easy. With any luck, that'll be all that's needed.

I've tried the wipe data, and it is working now.
All apps are being re-instaled right now.
Thanks a lot.
As for my satisfaction of the asus tablet, it is getting worse, let's just say if they don't fixe the RR and vpn soon.. well, you know, when the time will come to buy another one, the choice will be made easier by elimination.
I was this close, to either throw it back at them, or just crush it with a hammer... i don't care for the cost, we have to pay for our error. Mine might just have been to pick up that tablet from asus.
Future will tell us.
Have you tried holding down the power button for at least 10 seconds? Sounds like one of the reported problems lots of people are having.
Edit - ignore me, I didn't read your posts properly :-(

S4 volume button damaged!!

Hi guys.
New to the forum, but looking forward to it.
My Galaxy S4 i9500 has a damaged volume button and is giving me awful problems when turning my phone on.
When the phone boots up it goes into some sort of recovery mode ...................................... which is not what I'm after!
After much 'teasing' with a set of tweezers I managed to get the phone switched on okay, but I'm now scared to turn it off, obviously.
I need a replacement button!
Samsung said they could fix it for £125!!! They said the button is part of the display module, but I'm not convinced.
Is there anywhere reliable where I could purchase a new volume button.
Please tell me what I want to hear.
Oh, I'm UK based.
Many thanks in advance,
19slime58
lol £125!!!
Try to search on ebay.co.uk . You can find them from £1.50

I have never tried it, however there are some videos in youtube. If you find it hard to do it, buy the replacement buttons and go to a local tech service shop, and let them do it for you. I don't think they will charge you a lot
