hi im new to android but my problem is that when i boot it it just stays on acer screen iv tried resstin but nothin happens acer surport wont help im pullin my hair out its been like this for 2 days now and nothin at all any 1 help thanks

So what did you try to do to it?

i tryed ressetin it with the reset button but nothin happens i read on here something about put usb keyboard on and press home done that it just says e:/dev/block/mmcblk1 does not exist e:failed to mount /mnt/sdcard (no such file or directory)e:cant /mnt sdcard/update.zip installation aborted

No, I mean what did you do to break it? Or was it like that when you bought it? If so, far easier to take it back.

it was like that when i bought it

Then it's probably far easier to take it back, as we can't tell what's actually wrong with it.

just return it to your seller and ask for replacement...

Boot takes quite while. How long did you wait before giving up? Also does it have a full battery charge? You might try booting it up while it is plugged in and charging.

left it on for an hour just wont boot up my daughter bought it of ebay with that fault on it thinkin i would be able to fix it but i no nothing about these things

OK, well in that case, I suggest you search the board for the Chinese update.zip fix and instructions, then look in the full package and update thread. Read EVERYTHING about them, then try the steps described to fix the device.
You could also try grabbing the new 3.1 official (leaked) update, copy it to an external SD card, and boot in to recovery (Power + -Vol button (the left side of the volume rocker).

Alright...which one of you early A500 hackers sold this guy's daughter your bricked A500?

thanks to all managed to sort it out

Well? Do tell!

worse then soft brick, HELP!

ok so basically i installed a custom rom, great.. not really.
it wouldn't connect to a network, my usb failed and countless other things were missing.
fine and dandy, rom manager asked me to do a backup of my original rom so i'll just load that... file unloadable.
great.
Miraculously i managed to get a new rom on my sd card and installed it.
got stuck at bootscreen then loaded in to a black screen that only showed the notification bar.
by now i've gotten pretty flustered and figure a battery pull should re set everything and let it load up fine (after all i'm a previous bb user lol)
but no
no, now my phone won't even power on.. even when i plug it into the wall to charge the screen stays black.
holding any button combination doesn't work..
its literally a brick.
is there any way to fix this?
so far all i've found are fixes for "soft bricks"
sounds like i'm a little past that stage...
Ok, take out the battery, sim, and sd card from your phone. Now with the battery out, plug the phone into the usb and connect to pc. Now, while holding down the volume up/down at the same time, but NOT the power button, put in the battery. And there you should have download mode, odin away.
Good luck.

well i had just bought it that day so it was covered under warranty.
i took it back and told them the upgrade to 2.2 did it.
they gave me a new one no questions,
it also helps that i work for them and am their tech guy so they would have given me the phone to try to fix had it been a customer lol.

Send it back to Acer. They'll fix it, but you'll have to pay for shipping.
wow they ll fix it for free you think ?
they wont charge me 1000$ ?
Acer has a single pricing repair .The cost for this in the us.is.199.99 dollars. I have called them in the past. However I do not know about just fixing a bootloader issue. Something that they should give a way to the end user to do from there home.but then again they lock these devices to protect software rights of digital copyright and so on.
Call them but be honest as to what you done. They will figure it out anyway.
You can also contact sc2k here on this forum. He might be able to help you.
Good luck.

EDIT: just saw in my device and printer tab in sys settings, there is a device called APX. Acer Picasso USB Boot recovery driver
EDIT2: lol somehow i managed to get into acer download state with pbj20upgrade.
installing 3.0.1 now.
i think i was stuck in this mode and the devices waited for data or something
EDIT3: if anyone has the same problem try this:
install andoid sdk!
start pbj20
click next
turn out iconia
turn it on
if you are in APX mode (look in sys settings> devices and printer), youre good to go
it will check for versions
you get message: Connected ?
type yes
setup starts somehow

Maybe I was a bit unclear.I was saying ask acernto fix it..
And I know from experience with acre they have a flat rate for repair.on any acer computer product.199.99.
I called them in the past about a main board in a laptop.
Then again when I dropped my tablet.Sorry for any confusion maybe I should go back to doing the dishes and looking pretty.

You interrupted the update...this is something you should never do when updating a devices firmware/bootloader and your tablet probably has an incomplete firmware/bootloader, as a result.
BTW: have you tried pressing VOL- and PWR, to load the recovery image: i mean if that would work at all, given your circumstances?

Once again: Noob bricked his new phone..

Sorry to annoy you guys with the same things over and over again. Me - used to flash and customize WM devices quite alot - was a bit to fast with Android I guess.
Had Samsung with stock firmware (about 3-4 months ago, cant tell more).
Wanted to start getting into flashing new Roms, so tried to flash semphore kernel first (Yes.. i know now..).
Went trough somehow anyways, Odin gave green light, I disconnected from USB.
But instead of device booting into somethin I got the white I9100 letters and a big "!" sign below.
(Guess I know now why..)
So.. i tried to flash again with repartition on. I left it running for about 45 minutes, but nothing was happening. Red some posts - guess the wrong ones - that told me if it is stuck for that long you should disconnect, remove bat, retry. Did so, and to my shock odin suddenly replied with:
<ID:0/003> Re-Partition operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
<ID:0/003> Removed!!
I should have listended... " DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!" And read more before I try. I know. Now its not even powering on - guess this means some serious money I gotta pay for repair? Or is there anything left I could try???
Sorry for the noob action....
Is that a kernel for a different phone by any chance (i.e. Samsung Galaxy S)?
Try getting into download mode from the phone, volume down, home button and power button, press all 3, and report back.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
The ! sign is normal. its just there to tell that you are using an unofficial kernel. the repartition is the reason why your device is bricked. Never tick that one
First off all you don't need to repartition when only flashing a kernel.
If you are able to boot in download-mode
You can flash a stock firmware from http://www.sammobile.com and everything should be okay again
And semaphore is not for the S II
Sent from my GT-I9100 using CyanogenMod7
No way to get into download mode.. no battery sign on charge, just black.
So guess there is no way out if it? I red about a special usb cable you can solder yourself, I would not mind doing so... But the pure black on the phones display tells me somehow this time it went worst case... hit me!!!
What would you tell em if you bring it back? I only have it 3 months, kept in case, looks brandnew, guess I still get some good service.
Tell them it got stuck on Kies Update?
Tell them it simply turned off and stayed?
Any other ideas?
Guess telling them "tried to flash wrong, unofficial firmware, then re-partioned and plugged off to early" wont help much to get the repair for free.
I can only hope I bricked it that bad that they cant revive and think its a hardware problem.
Buy a JIG on e-bay for a few bucks

They'll tell you to pound sand if you try to get it warrantied; it will cost you money to get it fixed. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you have to pay to play.
Order a USB jig, it MIGHT help you get into DL mode.

Get a jig as mentioned, can you get into recovery mode? Vol up, home, power button combo.

I could get into download & recovery mode before without problems. Now I dont even get charging symbol. Does JIG really helps in such an extreme case?
edit: Bought JIG from ebay, will see if it helps. Not much hope..

Potentially yes.
Maybe you are lucky and they would accept it when you say kies messed it up.
But i think you don't have bricked it
... If i got it right you just flashed a kernel from a wrong device, right? this means your bootloader is still intact... So no need to worry, your second flash didn't even start according to the odin log you posted.
Here a few things you can try:
1. Maybe your battery is empty because if the long time in download mode (it doesn't get charged there) -> either charge it with some cheap exterenal charger or find someone who borrows his
2. If you have ensured your battery isn't empty, take it out, wait a few minutes and insert it WHILE you hold three button combo for download mode (needs some acrobatic skills ) hold it a bit to see what happens (can be up to 10sec.), if you are in download mode make sure to flash a fw with three files plus re partition with pit!!!
3. If this gets stuck again try to flash just a pit file and nothing else, this will erase every single partition and then repeat step 2
4. Buy a jig for 5 bucks on ebay or amazon (or do it yourself as you said)
A jig will be your last resort but to 99% you will be successful with it. As i said because your bootloader is still intact.
And take care to use only files for i9100 this time
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Most off the time it does! But sometimes it doesn't.
But it costs a lot less when you need to repair it by samsung or service store ect.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using CyanogenMod7
Invest in a Jig. They cost <$3 on ebay or you can make one yourself just youtube
"How to Make a USB Jig for $2! [Galaxy S2] [Download Mode][Reset Odin Counter] "
Ive had my phone brick on me SOOOO MANY TIMES but ive always managed to revive it. Belive me and anyone else who says "get a JIG".....GET ONE! Better <$3 jib that saves your phone or spend another X amount on a repair/new phone
You guys give me hope. Thx!
I ordered a Jig from ebay yesterday already. (7 € but fast delivery).
I can´t believe the battery was empty, I had it on about 80 % when starting odin
with "repartition" on. And it was showing the "do not disconnect message" on screen
when I plugged it off, which did not dissapear. Then I turned it off, removed battery, instantly after that it was only giving me black.
So I guess it was in the middle of repartitioning.. I really did not expect it to take THAT long, at least not after the first flashing went trough in about 10 seconds. Dunno what this means exactly, does this hurt the bootloader itself? I thought (...) it was only the userfile space / system space.
And sure, I will try each and every trick before I send it in and tell it was evil, evil kies.
Cause IF they are able to revive, they will instantly see on the counter that I did mess with it.
Lets hope I dont pay to much for my little playing - actually I just wanted all functions I bought the phone for to work.... get rid of the beta they sold with it..

Same here, always flashing and I always read (I'm too chicken **** to not read ).
I will heed this warning, and keep reading. For now, I can only say that I hope it works.
How you doin'? Greetings from my GT-I9000!
You flashed a kernel from the galaxy s instead of the s2. Did you use the ops file for the s also? I've read that using a wrong ops file is bad..... Anyone else here that maybe knows a bit more, does this file contain the partition layouts for the phone?

power button broke and need to revert back to stock

I'm sending my a500 into acer to get the power button fixed and i have to revert it back to stock before I do. Is there any way of doing this automatically without using the recovery method and needing to select options with a power button. I tried using this EUUs_SBK_Acer_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 and it detected my custom rom but nothing showed up under new image version and wont let me continue.
any help??
btw I'm on honeycomb lightspeed 2.1 with honeyvillain 3.7 kernal right now.
My power button broke a few months back. I just popped it open and soldered it back onto the board and I used a glue gun to fill the gap behind the power button casing so it won't get pushed back anymore (I guess one too many hard pushes screwed mine up.) Haven't had problems with it since.
Hope this helps.

Just send it in to Acer. They probably won't even say anything about it. Especially it being a PWR button.
The thing about "if you root you lose warranty", is hogwash more or less. In your case, you can stand your ground as it's a physical defect.
I haven't heard a whole lot of stories from anybody who returned their device, even if it was rooted and such, and got a hard time from the service center. In fact, I have read cases where people got a replacement tab, and not only was it rooted, but already had a custom rom installed!!!!
Just send it in and don't worry about it. The thing is, with your older version of CWM, and not the touch version, you're pretty well up the creek. Unless you want to go the NVFlash way. Now that we can definately help you with. You should be able to NVFlash a stock recovery image. In fact, I believe the Acer Recovery Installer on the market, may be able to flash a stock recovery. Might want to check it and see if it will boot your tab to APX mode automatically. I haven';t used it before, as I prefer the old fashioned way (involves the PWR button)

That's great to hear. i wasn't sure how acer was about being rooted. i know with my sprint phone if the service guys wanted to be dicks they can black flag it and it will void the warranty on that phone entirely, and I've read cases of this happening to people. I'm just gonna do a factory reset and send it to acer. I'll update this thread when i get it back.
also, i did install the stock recovery and tried to flash a stock update.zip but every time I'd get the android guy with the exclamation point next to him, then it would reset (i think it's cause its from the wrong rom?). i had a real hard time finding a stock rom with a good DL link. almost everyone i tried from that link in my first post (and from google) had bad download links. i only got like 2 to actually download and neither worked. but it don't matter now cause I'm sending it in rooted anyway. thanks for the info.:highfive:

Yeah, some of the "update.zips" are a little ify-ify on whether they will work or not. One that works well is an EUU rom. But this requires you enter your UID number for it to continue (a good idea to copy yours down when you get the tab back). Of course it's for a a500, but will install on an a501 also. Usually we use this to reset partitions from a failed NVFlash.
Keep us posted. Sprint folks can be real peckerheads sometimes.

*UPDATE*
So I got my tablet back from acer today. I sent it in rooted on a honeycomb lightspeed rom and I got the same a500 (I put a little mark on it) back on a stock 3.2.1 rom. So they don't really care about root as they still fixed the power button. Thanks for the heads up on that one Moscow Desire. It's funny cause my 1 year warranty would have ended on August 15, 15 days from now lol.
I think its time for some ice cream sandwich.

[Q] Bricked LG P705

I'm hoping someone on here can help me. My home button doesn't work and I wiped my system and boot partitions. So currently there's no ROM on the phone and I can't get into download mode or anything. Hardware I think, all of the other buttons work apart from that one. I'm tempted to order a new one online but I'm not sure if that'll help much.
Do you think I could use a KDZ flasher to get the stock ROM back on it if I had a working home button?
If your home button is working, you can do everything. I'm afraid that you won't get far with a broken one. Are you planning on ordering a new phone or a new home button online?

I'm getting a Nexus 5 in about 2 weeks but I think I might order a home button online aswell just so I can have a backup phone for when my nexus dies while I'm out.
I personally recommend you to not buy a new home button for your phone. You can't mount it on yourself unless you have some experience in engineering first of all, and secondly your Nexus 5 outsmarts P705 in so much ways that we could lose count. Save your money and arrange a funeral for your phone.
