I'm going to be trading for an lg g2 tomorrow. The guy says it's in perfect condition. But would the warranty still be available to me? Or only to original owner? If anyone knows please share. The phone was from T-Mobile but unlocked. Thanks

Yeah you should have the warranty. As long as there are not any software modifications but even then you could revert them back.

per my LG G2's manual:
"(2) The limited warranty extends only to the orginal purchaser of the product and is not assignable or transferable to any subsequent purchaser/end user."
"(3) This warranty is good only to the original purchaser of the product during the warranty period as long as it is in the U.S., including Alaska, Hawai, U.S. Territories and Canada"
Says the same thing in my Nexus 5 manual too.

This is true but I have never had LG ask for my proof of purchase or anything like that, I had to return my LG OG because the front camera stopped working, I just sent it in and they sent me out a new one.

I guess it depends on how the rep feels. I'll take my chances. Thanks for the info though. Hopefully it won't need warranty anyways

Usually they don't ask for proof of purchase unless the representative feels like they want to add more work to their part. (Which is unlikely). Even when I go to an AT&T service center, they don't ask if it's passed the One year warranty but it really depends on the rep.

What about if I don't have original box but it's still under a year? Because the phone I'm getting is just the phone and charger. No box. Would warranty still be available?

Warranty date is displayed in software information. You have a good chance of replacement with year even if not original owner. Just don't admit you are second party. Make **** up if need be.

So my question is I ordered at 9:08am PST and got a confirmation email right away. I still have the 13th as my date and preorder as status. I never received a backorder so I should be limbo level 2. Anyways CSR is no help as to why I never got tracking or a phone shipped. My question is if I cancely order and buy off craigslist or eBay through a 3rd party do I lose my warranty. How do warranty work when u buy this way. Thanks for any info and have a great Thanksgiving.

The manufacturers warranty like if the glass was broke or 2 weeks from now the speaker stops working who is responsible for that. If I stayed with waiting and got my nexus from Google do I call them to use my warranty. If I buy it on craigslist unopened do I still get some warranty that's in the box that I call to register it.

I actually called yesterday and asked this exact question. I was told that everything (refunds/exchanges) is attached to the original purchaser. Perhaps the IMEI is associated with the original buyer email? *shrugs* this is exactly the reason I haven't purchased the phone off CL - as painful as it is to wait.....
I'm pretty sure LG will still honor their warranty as much as they usually do.
Google you likely won't be able to work with, though you could get a SquareTrade or similar warranty.

I am about to buy a sealed n4 16gb from a guy who won it through a competition. How do I get warranty? as it was the company which sent him this phone as gift. Moreover on the box in description its written (US).does that means its us stock?.and I am in Australia.will my warranty be applicable here.
please help guys very urgent
As mine says UK on the box I'm guessing it is denoting the country of origin so it could be linked to warranty, you'd have to speak to Google to confirm
they are not telling anything. But the person says he received shipment from Sydney. What to do?
on thse sku: its written lg960.ausgbk....whats urs?
au stock here and mine is lge960.aaugbk
nd whats in description is there (US) written? on it
You could airways do a3rd party warranty via a company like squaretrade

stop worrying about the warranty. 95% of the time nothings going to happen to your phone in the first year. besides, I think warranties are usually international these days

No. N4 does not have international warranty. Only the Nexus 7 has that.
I bought an AT&T S4 32gb from ebay brand new a week ago. It was working well & it was never rooted or custom rom installed.
I slept & woke up & this phone wasnt responding to anything i do. No boot or power at all, checked battery it looks fine & voltage output is 4.21.
I didnt open the phone, though it never got water/liquid damage. Another thing strange is its not even heating up from any side.
Wrote this thread in hope, if anyone has had in this situation & made it work again.
Im truthful to every line i wrote. Need solutions.

I dint get it...why cant you claim warranty? Warranty is for devices that were once working fine but no longer are. Warranty is through samsung themself not your carrier...so it shouldnt matter how you got it you should still have up to a year to file warranty

As I said, i bought from "ebay.com" seller, that isnt helping as the seller states, it was working when he sold to me & he doesnt wanna help. Yes you are right but i can only claim warranty if i stay in USA & if i have the receipt, which i dont have. I cant claim warranty locally as its an AT&T phone which is only sold in US.
The way around is to make it work.

Samsung doesnt want to help if he is outside the usa because it is the usa based device so they will only service it within the usa I believe via UPS mailing since they ship back only to a usa address.
Why don't you open a ebay/paypal claim to get your money back?

I don't think it is unfair. You paid for a product that obviously was defective as it died randomly. If I buy a item from a store I expect to work, not die randomly to suck it up. Even though its a used item, you shouldn't deal with issues that perhaps the previous owner did not tell you.

It should still be covered and you can print your Paypal receipt as proof that it was brand new if the title of the auction says brand new. I think it should be covered. You will need to register it with Samsung for warranty service. Toucan do that on their website. You probably won't even have to mention where you bought it.

He is India and bought a device only covered for warranty within U.S.A terrority by law. They wouldn't be forced to service an out of country warranty. Same deal happened to my friend in europe with a U.S.A tmobile s4. He ended up shipping it to me so I could ship to them.
Then again its soley by Samsungs choice. He could try contacting their international department to see if they'll honor it for him.

They may service it for him. I'd play with it more. Its unusual for a phone to just die like that but something could have shorted out in it. I don't know how good the electricity in India is.
I say give it a try. Call sammy and also file a claim with PayPal. He should stand by his product.

Im really disappointed at your suggestions, making a paypal claim is my last resort.
As previously, i bought a captivate which died the same way after a month, of i did claim thru paypal i ended up losing both phone & money.
Yes Samsung may help, international samy will not bother to help & if its USA samy i must have to call from a valid US no. right?
Hello Febby, u gave me a good suggestion, ur frnd sent it to u, but can i as im limited by the person i know in USA.
Frankly, i just wanna try something myself, to make it work & btw electricity is good, but its a little costly where i stay & power cuts are limited.
My S4 screen cracked, they never asked for a proof of purchase (but then again, they took my $200 to fix it). Maybe look into something like VIAddress, they provide a US address for you to tell companies to ship to and they'll forward it to a big number of countries for some fee.

OK viaddress are they reliable, how much time do they take. They didnt ask cuz u paid for it, mine is diff then urs, as its totally dead... no response at all. They might ask
I've never used VIAddress, but I've sold several thing on eBay to people who used almost identical addresses that went to this freight complex in an pharma/industrial part of our country, New Jersey. One person was Chinese and the other Russian. So I'm guessing they used this or another forwarding service... it must be good if they used it.
True, Samsung might ask you, but I think the warranty will stand by serial number and not owner. I've sold a Galaxy S3 to someone and AT&T at least, assured us that there would be no problems with the other guy making a claim.

I posted the below in response to another thread but thought I might as well create a thread to get a more definitive answer on the issue of whether or not LG/Verizon/CarrierX will honor its manufactures warranty if you bought your phone 2nd-hand through Ebay/Craigslist/ect.
Here's my OP, did I just get lucky or is this really how the warranty program really works?
If I'm correct, I hope to dispel the misunderstanding many XDA'ers may have about their warranty and have the fully functional phone they deserve. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
topurdue said:
I didn't have a choice about taking it back to Verizon. I bought it off of CL and it was probably one the original owner had replaced. So, returning it isn't an option for everybody. I tried many things that didn't work also, but this app did and it's why I shared.

I used to think the same thing but this is actually FALSE.
I bought my used G2 off of Ebay and was having problems with the speaker port. So I just brought the phone into Verizon, they confirmed the speaker port wasnt working, looked up my account (im sure they can see whether or not I bought it directly from them) and they had a new phone mailed out to me, no questions asked.
I believe its because the phone is still less than a year old which is covered under LG's manufacturers warranty program not Verizons. Therefore its LG's money, not Verizon's. Why wouldnt Verizon go through the trouble of keeping their customers happy when it doesnt even cost them anything.
Now it might be different once the G2 hits the one year mark. And maybe I just got lucky as I didn't volunteer any info about the Ebay purchase, cuz I was already getting what I wanted anyway. Either way, you have nothing to lose and a brand new G2 to gain if you at least try.

I have no experience outside of Sprint, but with the way my replacement program works, I pay $11/month on my Sprint bill and no matter WHERE my phone came from, defects are fixed(or the phone is replaced) for free. 1-year manufacturer coverage doesn't matter.
If I didn't pay for Sprint insurance, I'd have to mail the phone to LG's warranty department, and I'd have to be within one year. I was told the exception to this is a "known issue", kind of like a manufacturer recall, where so many people have the same defect that Sprint will perform swaps on behalf of the manufacturer even if you don't have insurance. These are rare, I guess because the mfr has to put out a bulletin or something like that admitting the flaw.
Of course, the insurance also helps if I drop or lose the phone. Which is not manufacturer/warranty-related.
It sounds like you might be enrolled in VZ's insurance?

When you buy phone that have suffix from your country you can make "purchase agreement" and it will be taken into account if you have everything.
It finally happened to me. G4 H 811Stock LG MM, never rooted only SIM unlocked. I sent it in for repair and a week later i got a voicemail from LG. They say my phone is not fixable, because it's a aftermarket alteration and this voids my warranty. What does that even mean? I bought it used in excellent condition last May from Ebay. I did run the LG info app and came up as original. Now they want me to pay $22 for the diagnosis if i want it back. I told them to keep it and I won't pay nothing for a bricked phone. I think they are trying to eliminate as many G4s as they can, and won't even honor their warranty. I'm very disappointed with LG.

I thought about taking a picture of the motherboard before i sent it in for repair but i didn't want to tamper with it. The phone can't even go to fastboot so the only way to tell is by the numbers on the MB. Maybe i should pay and get it back to check for myself. I thought G4 bootloops were repaired by LG even out of warranty, but they can't be trusted anyway.

right but if it was open by some shop and sold as a h811 when inside MB isnt they wont cover warranty cause someone not LG open it. i guess. am just speculating that could be the cause.
I talked to a supervisor and he said the warranty is void because the motherboard is original but the white sticker on the back of the case is not. So i paid $22 in order to get it back unfixed. Meanwhile in my repair status email it shows as "Repair in progress". That's strange...
I received my G4 back today not fixed, warranty void, labeled as after market alteration, non original sticker:
It looks like there is no serial number, but LG says MB is original. So what's the point of a fake sticker?
