Hi all. i have an s3 with t-mobile uk and last week i broke the screen. Luckily for me my i have aquired an s3, which had been cooked in the microwave and needed a new motherboard but screen all good. long story short swapped motherboards and all good apart from donor phone still being locked to O2 so have no signal. How can i get round this.
thanks in advance.
Why didn't you just swap screens?
Swyped from Tapatalk Pro
Your story is contradictory, your motherboard in the microwaved phone will still be t mobile.
Anyway, to unlock you'll need a network code from O2 or another legitimate source.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Hi,
Just quick question, how could it be on O2 if you swapped the motherboards? You should be on t-mobile like your old phone was. So I think there is a bit of confusion. But that's just my opinion!
Good luck!

basically my t-mobile s3 broken screen. other is microwaved O2 s3. swapped motherboards and all my phone stuff works fine apart from i have no signal. if i go to network operators in settings only O2 is shown and no option for t-mobile/ ee.
That isn't network lock, which appears as soon as you insert a sim card belonging to another network. You have a different issue, probably related to microwaves or water (drying something out is the main reason people microwave electronics, thus destroying it twice over).
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
so would it be right to assume that something else may not be working which is attatched/stuck to back of screen?
p.s. amusingly the microwaved phone was my brothers, he was heating little ones bed time milk but put the wrong hand in the microwave.........
I guess the antenna got fried in the microwave. Try transplanting motherboard and screen into your original case.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
The lower PCB is attached to the screen. That's going to be fried.
i turned phone on yesterday to see what i could do via settings. oddly all started working normally. i spent an hour the other day trying to sort it but would only ever detect O2. the motherboard swap was definitley the easy option. a few screws a poke and a prod and bosh.... all done. thanks for yourhelp and suggestions.

Hi,
I just received a DHD on Orange UK, and it has the sim card cover not fitting properly problem that I have read about on here, ie it sits high at the middle.
Has anyone received a DHD from Orange that DIDN'T have this problem? I am just trying to decide whether its worth returning it or whether they're all going to be like this anyway...
Cheers.
My DHD was from orange, the sim card cover dosent fit proply either, but i dont notice as my DHD is usually in its otterbox.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
DHD originally branded on Orange UK, complete with logo on sim card cover, not exactly sure what you mean, mine appears to fit fine. I were you, I'd look into buying an unbranded cover to get rid of that unsightly logo.
I had the same problem but there is a fix
Look very carefully at the cover.
You will see a bit that sticks out that fits next to the sim card.
This peice is L shaped and should fit into a similar L shaped peice on the phone.
However when I first fitted my cover I didnt line it up properly and bent the end of the L shaped peice on the cover over. This prevents the peices from locking together and makes the cover stick up.
If you very carefully bend the L shaped bit on the cover back into shape you can get the cover to fit correctly. It wont be bent by very much but if the cover cant fit together it wont fit right.
I wish I had taken soem photos but now I have the thing fixed you cant easily see what I did to fix it.
If one of you guys can take a photo of the cover I can point out the place to check if you cant work it out.
i contacted HTC and said i broke mine, and they sent me two new unbranded sim covers yaay

Did you just contact them via e-mail? I'm not too worried about it's flimsiness, it's just that it doesn't fit right to the sides of the phone, has a good 1-2mm step

Take a photo of the inside of the cover and i will show you how I fixed mine, yours probably has the same problem.

Ah no it doesn't have the usual step above the sim card, it's actually on the side of the phone, hard to explain lol. The edge of the sim card cover is not flush with the edge of the rest of the phone.
Hi, if it's from UK Orange, just call them up and get them to sent you a new one. I've had three HTC Desire HD sent from Orange, and not one had any problems with fitting the similar cover.
PS: the reason that I've had three handsets from Orange is because the replaced them, apparently each one was faulty.

So my wife wanted to shove her iphone microsim into my phone because her phone was out of battery, and for some reason the micro sim tray got caught in the sim connector slot. I was not able to get it out gently. I finally yanked it out, and I now broke off a tiny bit of the connector.
I have found this http://www.parts4repair.com/samsung-galaxy-note-sim-connector/ for sale and was wondering if I should attempt to do this myself.
Has anyone had any experience with this repair? I have been trying to look for something online that features a tear down, but I have not found anything that involves the sim connector.
i couldn't stop laughing...last week my wife tried to do same with my note, thankfully i had seen her and stopped it..
better give it to service center, enough damage is already done
Sounds like it was you who wrecked it by yanking. Don't blame your wife!

i did the same yesterday i took it to samsung service center, it will take one working day to be fixed, they will change the connector for 40$, going to collect it tomorrow.
update: they just called me, gonna collect it now.

Hah Dude! I had the EXACT SAME THING. The goddamn thing got stuck, i got mad and ripped it out. The pin (middle on) broke off and then the phone did not recognize my sim card.
I was so mad cuz it was the first day I had the phone.
Anyway, just return it to samsung repair center.. they fixed mine for free.
State something in the lines of ''When I placed the simcard I noticed it wasn't recognized. When I removed the simcard, it turned out the middle pin was missing''
Multibillion dollar company, they won't look any further and replace ur phone.
Goodluck.
so u havent told us if your wife is still alive xD

so basically you pulled it out and damaged it but blame the wife for putting a microsim in there.....right
I did the same thing on my old Nexus S and sent it to Samsung to repair. Got it back last week. I was messing with my phones and switching Sims and got frustrated and yanked it out therefore breaking the Sim tray connectors.

LOL you guys...
What did you expect ?
Just go ahead and send your phone back to Samsung and your wife (soon to ex-wife because of "random" kidnapping) off to Siberia where she'll learn NEVER to touch a mans phone... ever (unless it's to say how big it is then promptly put it down).
on a side note I heard transporting human bodies is quite cheap, as long as you ship in bulk
Hehe I am not blaming the wife per se, I have gone and bought the replacement sim connector. It's less than a buck, so I just bought 2 just in case it happens again.
I am in a country where service center or warranties are just not possible. So its pretty much diy and buyer beware.
If I get it and don't stuff it up, will update with photos.

Same exact case here. Last week. Living in Spain. I had to send it to the Samsung Care Center in Pontevedra. 27€, but i had it back in one day.
This bloody pins are made of butter. Don't worry you'll get it fixed.

suomaf, replace it yourself. Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note are pretty easy to disassembling. Here is video tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFDr3PQMTxw
oh sure the phone is easy to disassemble but replacing the sim tray is not as easy as it is being talked about on here...
if samsung wont do it... pm me i can fix it..ive already done 2 from members on xda and i promise it was as good or better than samsung....
and for those who think its like older galaxys that was a separate unit that plugged in..not this one its soldered to the board and it is in quite tight quarters...
just trying to help avoid a catastrophe and give someone an option that might not have been there... btw i have 22 yrs board level repair experience just for any that might be thinking i didnt know what i was talking about...

I nearly had the same happen to me the other day ! obviously quite a common occurrence. I was removing the Micro SIM holder, it got halfway out and then the Micro SIM fell out of the holder and the Holder was catching on something - fortunately I guessed what was going on here so was VERY careful - I managed to get the SIM back into the holder then slot the whole thing back in , then remove it again (easy once the SIM was in place )
Bloody glad I was on the ball and didn't just give it a sharp tug now I've read this !
samsung service center location in US
Hi,
Can you tell me where the Samsung service location is? I am in SF bay area. I have the same problem on my international version (N7000). I would rather have it repaired at a Samsung location instead of some cell phone shops that only know how to replace iphone screens.
$40 seems very reasonable.
Thanks in advance.

What if I replaced my i337 board with one out of a i9505 s4. Would I have a unlocked bootloader meaning would it make it a i9505? I'm having problems with my s4 and I'm going to have to get a warranty replacement. Would this work? I'd rather get a parts phone and have a i9505 then send my phone in and have them send it back to me with mf3. Idk what I'd do if couldnt flash Roms with Loki.

I'm thinking that would not work just because the parts etc would not be compatible with each other. However if someone had different input, go ahead.

Seeing how close the two are I wouldn't see why not. Would be a worth while hard ware mod if it works.
Just get a s2 skyrocket and flash away. Cheaper than an s4 board and just about as fast.

I don't see why you won't be able to do this. The frame for the international version compared to the AT&T version should be the exact same. All the connections will be at the same place and all the parts should work. The only thing that is different is frequency. You won't get LTE but HSPA+.
The i9505 has LTE the only difference I know is the bootloader. Otherwise I don't believe there is any difference in hardware at all please correct me if I'm wrong.
With safestrap can I flash the HTC one port? This it's really the only reason I continue to keep using this phone in this condition (buying a HTC or any other phone is out the question)
Thanks guys BTW!

After reading in hear the OP sparked my search on Google for I9505 motherboard to purchase to install or have one installed. I came across the link below were this company does repairs of the I9505 model phone daily.its a pretty penny after you convert US$ into UK$ but still worth it . However after 6 emails back and forth between me and this company they insist that the phone is completely different and it will not work. I still think they are full of it.i dont see SAMSUNG making the motherboards different in shape to suit a different variant.
http://www.mobiledeviceworkshop.co....ard-main-board-replacement-service-1991-p.asp
Same specs across the board. Snapdragon 600.
Also the rep at the above company said thats like trying to mix the parts up between a I9505 and a I9500.
My research shows the I9500 has the snapdragon 800 and most definitely wouldn't work.duh

It has to do with the antenna and antenna connections between the motherboard and back casing. They are different. You would be lucky to get any signal and even luckier to not short out your board.

From where do you have this information?
I have a i337 from AT&T but my display broke some months ago. So I ordered a new one and I think the display was for the i9505 because when I opened it and looked on it from the back, on the right up corner, there was not enough space for the i337 motherboard.
The i337 motherboard has an (additional?) piece, which didn't fit into the display case.
On this picture, it's on the right side next to the "antenna contacts"
http://blog.brokenlcds.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/S4-antenna-contacts-coil-external-antenna.jpg
So I cut of the plastic from the display case and then it fitted and went well for a while with great signal.
But now for some days, I have a lot of singal loss and can hardly get more than 2 bars and I think it has to do something with these contacts.
Does anyone has a suggestion what I could do?
(more info: http://blog.brokenlcds.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-network-problem/ )
So I've had this phone for about 3.5 months now. I can say I'm less than pleased with it.
1) Still having issues with GPS. I have an Otter Box Case & haven't tried the tightening screws trick yet.
2) When rooted incoming calls are messed up. What I did was go to the Verizon store and ordered a replacement, put my SIM card in my old RAZR HD MAXX & was having the same exact problem it would ring and when I picked it up no one was there and it would hang up. Replacement came but without a new SIM card so went to the store to get a new one and I sent the replacement device back. All was good with the new SIM card but after I rerooted was having the same exact problem. Unrooted it and it has been working good in that aspect. So I guess I'm stuck without root. That stinks!
I can say without a doubt this will be the last Samsung device I will buy. Looking at the new One M8 but undecided. I wish Moto had a quad core phone I would definitely buy a Dev version of that.

Well just for grins I took the case off no difference. From the time I opened the the GPS Stats & Toolbox app took about 15 seconds or so to get a lock. Accuracy is all over the place but seems to average 30-36 feet. Also tried tightening the screws most were only lose a 1/4 turn. Either was the GPS in my opinion stinks in this phone. Tried to up load a photo but app won't let me do it for some reason.

3 weeks ago updated my note 3 to newest firmware for h3g UK rooted of course.
Touch, s-pen, sound and even camera stopped working completely after it booted up. I noticed a lot of ghost touches and the phone would do whatever it wanted.
Assumed it may have been a hairline crack in the screen so paid £148 for a replacement, fitted that it still didn't work, Knox had been tripped so I put it back to stock and still no luck.
Sent it into Samsung hoping a hardware warranty fault but ended up paying £150 due to Knox being tripped, just got off the phone to the service centre in UK they have given it a new motherboard and now a level 2 service engineer is replacing something else on the board camera, speaker who knows.
My question is does anyone know what the level 2 engineers actually do?
I was told it would obviously have new official firmware flashed due to new 32gb board put back in, other than that I'm a bit lost for what they're actually doing.

I had a similar experience with my s4 and an update caused some issue where the battery was running out in 4 hours.... tried everything no luck.. so gave to samsung. first tried a new batt which i purchased still no luck .. so then they replaced something and told me to use it.
I still had the same issue .. so they took it back after i complained a lot and said level 2 engineer will work on it. ....
3 weeks later i got my phone and the phone was worse then before.. the camera was not working, the phone would freeze and hangup and the batt issue was still there.
i ended up selling the phone cheap...
lost trust in samsung service ..:crying:
Got my note 3 after a hop to wp8 Lumia ( i know wrong move.. too simple opp system for my taste)
I think second level engineers is just a word they throw around,.. basically the same guys i think who sometimes make things worse ...
what i learnt was Samsung never admits their own firmware issue and says that its a prob wit the phone and will do unnecessary work on the phone and cause more issues..
never gonna take phone back to them specially if its a firmware issue ....
Try to put a mail to Ceos office or some other higher authority of samsung.. maybe they will respond and be more helpful.. ( helped in my friends case recently )
hope you get your phone back soon and working properly bro..
Cheers buddy, they've had it a week said it be back tomorrow, will see how tomorrow goes not getting my hopes up though

Well i have a similar problem but only on the bottom left corner my spen does not work ( 1.5 cm circle)
Well I've had the phone back and according to the engineer its beyond economical repair as its apparently had internal impact damage. Can't see how they've come to this conclusion.
Said they put a new motherboard in and the problem was still there, they refunded me and that was it. I've been fobbed off and not impressed at all so decided to get my money back from the screen and put the whole thing on eBay.
