What if I replaced my i337 board with one out of a i9505 s4. Would I have a unlocked bootloader meaning would it make it a i9505? I'm having problems with my s4 and I'm going to have to get a warranty replacement. Would this work? I'd rather get a parts phone and have a i9505 then send my phone in and have them send it back to me with mf3. Idk what I'd do if couldnt flash Roms with Loki.

I'm thinking that would not work just because the parts etc would not be compatible with each other. However if someone had different input, go ahead.

Seeing how close the two are I wouldn't see why not. Would be a worth while hard ware mod if it works.
Just get a s2 skyrocket and flash away. Cheaper than an s4 board and just about as fast.

LOL.....you would probably use Safestrap or sign up for AA or NA.

I don't see why you won't be able to do this. The frame for the international version compared to the AT&T version should be the exact same. All the connections will be at the same place and all the parts should work. The only thing that is different is frequency. You won't get LTE but HSPA+.
The i9505 has LTE the only difference I know is the bootloader. Otherwise I don't believe there is any difference in hardware at all please correct me if I'm wrong.
With safestrap can I flash the HTC one port? This it's really the only reason I continue to keep using this phone in this condition (buying a HTC or any other phone is out the question)
Thanks guys BTW!

After reading in hear the OP sparked my search on Google for I9505 motherboard to purchase to install or have one installed. I came across the link below were this company does repairs of the I9505 model phone daily.its a pretty penny after you convert US$ into UK$ but still worth it . However after 6 emails back and forth between me and this company they insist that the phone is completely different and it will not work. I still think they are full of it.i dont see SAMSUNG making the motherboards different in shape to suit a different variant.
http://www.mobiledeviceworkshop.co....ard-main-board-replacement-service-1991-p.asp
Same specs across the board. Snapdragon 600.
Also the rep at the above company said thats like trying to mix the parts up between a I9505 and a I9500.
My research shows the I9500 has the snapdragon 800 and most definitely wouldn't work.duh

It has to do with the antenna and antenna connections between the motherboard and back casing. They are different. You would be lucky to get any signal and even luckier to not short out your board.

From where do you have this information?
I have a i337 from AT&T but my display broke some months ago. So I ordered a new one and I think the display was for the i9505 because when I opened it and looked on it from the back, on the right up corner, there was not enough space for the i337 motherboard.
The i337 motherboard has an (additional?) piece, which didn't fit into the display case.
On this picture, it's on the right side next to the "antenna contacts"
http://blog.brokenlcds.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/S4-antenna-contacts-coil-external-antenna.jpg
So I cut of the plastic from the display case and then it fitted and went well for a while with great signal.
But now for some days, I have a lot of singal loss and can hardly get more than 2 bars and I think it has to do something with these contacts.
Does anyone has a suggestion what I could do?

hey guys i came here before because i bricked my nexus 4 while flashing the correct stock rom , it tried to flash bootloader and then it just died , i sent it in to the fine folks at mobiletechvideos.com and they tried reviving my phone like 4 times using jtag , one out of those times it sucessfully flashed , but it had no imei whats so ever so they contacted me and told me i have a bad emmc or atleast the blocks or whatever for the bootloader area of the memory are bad/damaged, :crying: i never heard of emmc problems on nexus 4's but i purchased a motherboard on ebay , supposedly it has a clean imei and it was pulled from a working nexus that had a cracked screen.
will i run into any problems during the mobo swap ?
also can someone lead me to a educational purpose only guide of how to change imei on a fine device like mine ?? :good: :fingers-crossed:
I've done it to my Nexus, you wont run into any problems at all. Just make sure everything's connected properly.

Changing IMEI numbers is illegal and may not be discussed here on XDA. Besides that an IMEI number is linked to a specific device and can not be transfered to another device.
ok well i hit the thanks button for you guys , just wanted to know
I have a water dmanaged nexus 4 wchich need a mainboard replacement.
I cant seem to find it on ebay or wherever.
Where could i find a mainboard with a clean imei? ramu
I sent my unit to a LG service center as it had similar issues to yours, and they had replaced the entire mobo without any issues. The IMEI is different as it no longer matches with the IMEI written behind the rear housing / sim tray.

Your best bet is probably on eBay. Just confirm with the seller that it has a clean IMEI before you buy it.

Hi @SneakyGuyDavid,
My Nexus 4 sank in water today, when I showed it to a repair shop nearby, He asked me to change the motherboard and PCB.
When he plugged my motherboard into another Nexus 4, the phone started and it was showing the Kitkat animation boot screen ( I had upgraded mine). it stayed on the animation screen for a while but didn't proceed further. After waiting for 2 mins. or so, he switched it off.
Now, I am not able to understand if the motherboard really needs to be changed
I thought if the motherboard was faulty, it wouldn't even start the phone, but it surely did.
Can you help me out here? What should I do?
I am planning to buy a used Nexus 4 online and will try to replace the motherboard with this one's. Will it create any issue?
Doubt it the mainboard prob screen on yours gone.

anyone have a part numbers for the screen?
dont need the frame assembly
is the digitzer and lcd just one part or built together?
when i watch the videos i only see one cable that plugs into the motherboard and that cable at the other end looks like it goes to just the lcd
there has to be a digitizer somewhere dont there?
will the same screen for a gsm gs4 work on the sprint cdma gs4?
thanks for any info you might have

yea they just made it cost alot more $$$ if you have just a phone with a bad digitizer as you now "have" to by the assembly wich is at the minimum the lcd and digitizer
you can get the frame assembly which is a little more
anyhow for the SPH-L720 its around $175-$200 and on the I9500 GSM version which is ATT and probably Tmobile their screen assembly go as low as $75
sure would like to know of the screens can interchange
looks like on ebay that the SPH-L720 isnt included on the one thats say I9500 but maybe that is only because the phone is new?

You can NOT interchange the screens! The breakdown is like this,
1) Samsung I337, M919, I9505 all use one type of screen
2) Sprint S4, Verizon S4, US Cellular S4 share the same screen
3) The international version I9500 uses a different screen.

Thank you for actually being helpful.
You are welcome. I repair phones and I have to keep track of all the different models from Samsung. Some parts are common between the different variants but the LCD assembly is not one of them.
Hi all. i have an s3 with t-mobile uk and last week i broke the screen. Luckily for me my i have aquired an s3, which had been cooked in the microwave and needed a new motherboard but screen all good. long story short swapped motherboards and all good apart from donor phone still being locked to O2 so have no signal. How can i get round this.
thanks in advance.
Why didn't you just swap screens?
Swyped from Tapatalk Pro
Your story is contradictory, your motherboard in the microwaved phone will still be t mobile.
Anyway, to unlock you'll need a network code from O2 or another legitimate source.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Hi,
Just quick question, how could it be on O2 if you swapped the motherboards? You should be on t-mobile like your old phone was. So I think there is a bit of confusion. But that's just my opinion!
Good luck!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
basically my t-mobile s3 broken screen. other is microwaved O2 s3. swapped motherboards and all my phone stuff works fine apart from i have no signal. if i go to network operators in settings only O2 is shown and no option for t-mobile/ ee.
That isn't network lock, which appears as soon as you insert a sim card belonging to another network. You have a different issue, probably related to microwaves or water (drying something out is the main reason people microwave electronics, thus destroying it twice over).
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
so would it be right to assume that something else may not be working which is attatched/stuck to back of screen?
p.s. amusingly the microwaved phone was my brothers, he was heating little ones bed time milk but put the wrong hand in the microwave.........
I guess the antenna got fried in the microwave. Try transplanting motherboard and screen into your original case.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
The lower PCB is attached to the screen. That's going to be fried.
i turned phone on yesterday to see what i could do via settings. oddly all started working normally. i spent an hour the other day trying to sort it but would only ever detect O2. the motherboard swap was definitley the easy option. a few screws a poke and a prod and bosh.... all done. thanks for yourhelp and suggestions.
My Question is i have a 7 week old s4 and broke front glass and digitizer. I have sprint TEP and going to file a claim but would like to know if i can just switch out all my phone parts to the replacement and vice versa. Then send back the one they sent me. I know they use refurbished ones and don't want someones else junk. If this can be done can someone give me a complete list of parts that must be switched.

Sent from my BNTV400 using xda app-developers app
I have had TEP for as long as i have had sprint. Ever time i would take any of my phones to the sprint store they would fix them there if they had the parts. I never got sent a new or refub phone. I had an OG evo for a very long time i cracked the screen and they replaced it in the store. Mind you it was rooted with a custom rom and they never gave me a hard time about and never had to pay the deductible.
Well got my replacement phone today and it's refurbished. It was also allready updated to 4.3. Was going to change out the parts from this phone to the old and vice versa since my old one is still on the 4.2 bootloader. As I begin the process I noticed that a piece of broken plastic had gone through the mother board and destroyed a few things. Well now I am stuck with 4.3 boot loader.

I bought a black color AT&T SGH-i337 with firmware MF3 recently. After research, I found out that with firmware MF3 or above, the only way to flash custom rom is using SafeStrap. However, I don't want to use SafeStrap. My wife is using a white i337 with stock firmware MDL (rooted by me last year). I want to exchange with her but she doesn't like black one.
To make the wife happy, I'm thinking to swap the motherboards for the two phones. I watched a video on ifixit.com and it seems not difficult. I'm planning to do it this weekend. Before doing it, I want to make sure the following concerns:
1. If loki method works for MDL firmware?
2. Does swapping motherboards swap both firmware and bootloader?
Please chime in for any input. Thanks in advance.
Update:
Or I can also swap the screens instead of swapping motherboard. Which one is easier to swap?

First, Loki does work on mdl firmware. But swapping the motherboard will also swap the imei. It goes along with the board. Not sure what's going to happen when you put each other's Sims in the phones. You may have to re-prevision them with your carrier. Just swapping the screens isn't going to get you what you want

i don' think the sims would cause a problem. Isn't that like switching sims normally? I have traded cell phones with siblings in the past and have experienced no problems. Speaking as an ATT customer.
Swapping the boards should work just fine. It won't match the printed imei on the box or sticker but I don't see why there would be any issues otherwise since swapping sims should work just fine.

Hi all,
Warning, dont ever buy on Electron-parts! Its chinese and they sell fake part! I did wrong by buying AT&T SGH_I337 main board there, I just got it from china, a GT-9500
main board
I switched my main boards after I bricked the first and it wouldnt boot. After you change them out, be sure to do a factory data reset. And even then it may act crazy for a little while. Mine did the entire first day. 2 factory resets later , its good. Just be careful when you take phone apart. It isnt like other phones in the way it comes apart..
