Nexus 4 Motherboard Swap ? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
hey guys i came here before because i bricked my nexus 4 while flashing the correct stock rom , it tried to flash bootloader and then it just died , i sent it in to the fine folks at mobiletechvideos.com and they tried reviving my phone like 4 times using jtag , one out of those times it sucessfully flashed , but it had no imei whats so ever so they contacted me and told me i have a bad emmc or atleast the blocks or whatever for the bootloader area of the memory are bad/damaged, :crying: i never heard of emmc problems on nexus 4's but i purchased a motherboard on ebay , supposedly it has a clean imei and it was pulled from a working nexus that had a cracked screen.
will i run into any problems during the mobo swap ?
also can someone lead me to a educational purpose only guide of how to change imei on a fine device like mine ?? :good: :fingers-crossed:
I've done it to my Nexus, you wont run into any problems at all. Just make sure everything's connected properly.

Changing IMEI numbers is illegal and may not be discussed here on XDA. Besides that an IMEI number is linked to a specific device and can not be transfered to another device.
ok well i hit the thanks button for you guys , just wanted to know
I have a water dmanaged nexus 4 wchich need a mainboard replacement.
I cant seem to find it on ebay or wherever.
Where could i find a mainboard with a clean imei? ramu
I sent my unit to a LG service center as it had similar issues to yours, and they had replaced the entire mobo without any issues. The IMEI is different as it no longer matches with the IMEI written behind the rear housing / sim tray.

Your best bet is probably on eBay. Just confirm with the seller that it has a clean IMEI before you buy it.

That pushes me away from rooting.. so it got bricked because the battery died? Or because it just did

Hi @SneakyGuyDavid,
My Nexus 4 sank in water today, when I showed it to a repair shop nearby, He asked me to change the motherboard and PCB.
When he plugged my motherboard into another Nexus 4, the phone started and it was showing the Kitkat animation boot screen ( I had upgraded mine). it stayed on the animation screen for a while but didn't proceed further. After waiting for 2 mins. or so, he switched it off.
Now, I am not able to understand if the motherboard really needs to be changed
I thought if the motherboard was faulty, it wouldn't even start the phone, but it surely did.
Can you help me out here? What should I do?
I am planning to buy a used Nexus 4 online and will try to replace the motherboard with this one's. Will it create any issue?
Doubt it the mainboard prob screen on yours gone.

aslong as your motherboard fully works, no it should make any issues. I switched my motherboard before on my phone, and when my phone broke i put the motherboard into ANOTHER nexus 4 and it worked perfectly fine

Just my though
i'd be careful it might be the broken one i sold to someone in Florida on ebay. he bought it knowing it had a broken touchscreen and a really jacked up sim card socket. i bought it off someone else on e-bay to fix it and that guy failed to report that it had damage from the sim socket being pryed on by a screw driver. i got a partial refund from the seller and sold it for less than i paid for it but ended up breaking even due to the partial refund i got from the original seller. if your interested in this phone have the guy take a photo of the back of the phone if there is a dent/damage to the metal loop on the back of the phone on the right side where the sim socket it its the same phone i had.

Motherboard s2(HAS BEEN CLAIMED)
Hi,Im moving over here from the x10 forums.Basically I bought a s2 second hand and it looked like it was blacklisted on UK networks-so I stripped it down and smashed up the screen. If anyone wants the motherboard they can have it.I have ordered a new s2 for £450 and am getting it soon . If my post is against the rules feel free to remove. Posted using s2 by xda premium

even if you disassemble it, the parts are still stolen if the phone's imie was blacklisted, the network surely most know to whom that phone belonged, the motherboard and all the money you make from selling these parts belong to the owner (or insurance company if it was insured), you should have returned it

Click to collapse It depends on all the facts.Theres loads on eBay about phones "only makes emergency calls/doesnt make or receive calls"-they all wont have antenna problems. I am not selling anything,I am out of pocket(for services rendered plus cash) for the phone, and the postage to Roger.Im guessing the phone was blacklisted but Ive not checked-its just it couldnt make calls. Ive known people "pretend" that their phone was lost/stolen,so its the buyer and insurance company that are ripped off. I get phones offered to me all the time, and as far as Im aware,if I do a service and accept a phone as a "guarantee of payment" and people dont come back,I dont think its my fault if they have stolen it from someone else/pretended they have lost it or had it stolen. I do see what you mean, but nobody I know has ever "bought" something 2nd hand then went straight to the Police or an Insurance Company to ask if its stolen or not. Posted using s2 by xda premium

Click to collapse No.. I'd say you will be fine.. The only way they'd charge you is if they never get the old device back.. They will simply refurbish it and send it to the next person.. Just because they don't see the problem does not mean there is not a problem.. They don't have the time and / or manpower to test every phone for hours to see if the problem you reported crops up or not..
[Q] Is this Nexus 4 bricked?
Hi there, I'm trying to buy a Nexus 4 online and saw one selling for a good price. Yet, as the seller puts it, it charges but won't boot, and one can also see the charging signal on the screen. Seller doesn't say if it is bricked or not. Is this normal behavior on a bricked phone? Any chance of unbricking it? Thanks!

Hard bricked. Feel terrible
Hey everyone, so today I was installing a rom on my friend's s3, and it turns out Verizon phones had a locked bootloader, so we managed to brick it. I've been trying to fix it for hours. I finally found a way to fix it by using an external SD, so I was trying to format my external sd from my s4, in order to use for the bricked s3. I used an app called aparted. Apparantly, aparted seemed to have deleted my phones partitions, not just the external sd card. Because now I cannot turn on my phone. It is completely unresposive. No odin, no cmw, no lights. I have managed to brick 2 phones in one day. I don't know what to do. Is this fixable with a jtag service? Are there any places that are trustworthy? Thanks, and please give me some advice...

Hmm I think I'm just gonna go for the JTAG. I went to a repair store where I live and he said the motherboard was broken.. I think he just had no idea what to do with it, since the charging light didn't go on. I have seen some ebay sellers with good ratings, that say they provide JTAG service, for around 30 dollars. These are cheaper than the 60 dollars from mobiletech. What do you guys recommend? Which one has less chance of scamming / more chance of unbricking? thanks a lot!
