Try a reflash and see if still there... If it is then I Seen this same issue posted here a few weeks ago, hardware issue with the screen to finger touch but the digitiser still works for the Pen. May need to be replaced.
But if it worked fine before flash, I would still lean toward software, maybe you should wipe the cache first and do factory reset later before reflashing?

Hello everyone,
Curious if anyone is having the same issue as me? I have tried multiple roms, stock, with and without kernels.
I am having some touch issues. Either I have to press harder then normal at times or multiple times for my press to register. Its getting quite annoying. Not sure if this is a defect or if i can modify something within the system files to make the screen more sensitive or if there is even a way to re-calibrate my sensors/screen?
Thank you in advance,
DFL
Did you figure out what was wrong? ... It just started to do the same with me... Even to right this was a pain in the a$$...

Well, I've rebooted in recovery mode, wiped the cache and it's back to normal now... I know it's just a temp solution, but you might wanna give it a try

hmmm... wiping cache fixed? i bet systemcleanup active would help then. I will take your advice and try out that app systemcleanup on my tab. I use on my phone Nexus S just didnt think the N7 would need it due to its specs.
Thanks mate, ill give it a go.

I had the same problem. So annoying. Take it back dude its detective.

Has anyone decided if this is a hardware or software problem? I've started having the same issue. Turning off the screen sometimes fixes it for me but not always. A reboot always fixes it.
Like just now... I was playing Zenonia 2 and in the middle of a battle I suddenly couldn't get the touchscreen to respond. I hit power to lock the device and immediately tried to turn it back on with power again... but I couldn't even get the unlock screen to work. I set it down for about 30 seconds and when I tried again it was fine. I pulled the game back to the top and it worked fine.
When this happens the "soft" buttons (back, home, etc) always seem to work just fine, so I'm inclined to say it's really a software problem.
Running stock + root.
My thought is that it has to be a hardware issue, or if everyone with the issues is rooted than it could be from the root. My device has fantastic response however I am not rooted.

I would think hardware as well, but the home and back buttons always work and they use the same touch surface...
I got the same thing here and rebooting appears to fix it. Sometimes it is so bad that I cannot move icons from one screen to another.
Did you guys try flashing stock 4.1.1 using fastboot or the toolkit? If that does fix it then its probably hardware problem.

I had the same problem ! solved by turning off the screen and turn on it
I have the same issue and mine isn't rooted yet so I don't think it is an issue with that. A wipe of the device doesn't help but a reboot usually does. This is my second N7 as the first was a warranty replacement for the headphone jack issue. The first never had the issue so I think it is an issue that should be addressed. I am outside my 14 days so I might have to go through Asus now.

For what it is worth, I just called Google and they are going to send me a new one. The lady that assisted me stated that she has had a few complaints with this issue and that they just replace it. N7 #3 should be on the way in a couple days. For some reason she said that the device wasn't set up properly in my profile so it will add a couple days to the process because of the long weekend.
Not a big deal. I have lived with it for a while now. At least they appear to be taking care of it and I wasn't transferred to Asus. At least yet.
So I have this weird issue. The very bottom of my screen does not respond well! At first I thought it was a bug with the navigation bar, tried several roms and tried PIE controls until I figured that there is something wrong. I have the navbar now set at 48 dpi and I have to press at middle of it to work, where the very bottom is dead. I activated 360 rotation so that my statusbar now is at the bottom of the screen instead of navbar and it does not respond at all! Anyone can explain ?

I have Tried like lots of different roms with clean fresh installation and the problem is still there ! I think its a hardware problem. For ezample right now if I set my navbar to 32 dpi it wont respond at all because the bottom of my screen have lost the touch sensitivity. I have droppes my phone several times, could that be it ? I cant really remember when I exactly started noticing the issue...but just few days ago...I have tried PIE and same **** :s I have to set the trigger area to max for it to respond...and yes im talking about experiments after a clean install before installing ANY third party app

okays... Now I think it surely a hardware problem,as you said you havr also dropped your phone several times.. All the best goto the service centre for the repair.. dont tell them that you have dropped your phone else they will charge you badly even if you are under warranty.. You are welcome..

Think Im gonna give no damn about it and of course buy the nexus 5, which I would have done either way..but im surprised how can a touchscreen lose a part of its sensitivity somewhere on the screen ?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
If you look closely at your screen at an angle with the screen off you will be able to see the digitizer matrix that is fused to the screen.
It is a series of squares.
Each of them squares has 3 horizontal lines and one vertical.
Behind the bezel there will be the circuitry that connects every horizontal and vertical line
If say for instance after one of your phone drops it has damaged one of the connectors at the side, you will lose the entire row of touch detection. Which is probably what has happened

Alex is right i had this happen to my moto defy. I'd say get it done under warrnty no matter if youre keeping or selling. Improve your resale value and protect you from having the entire digitizer die on you
hi guys
i just bought samsung gakaxy note 3 N9000 (exynos version) 2 days ago and i noticed something weird with the stylus
there is a certain area of the screen (to the right exactly) that the stylus doesn't write properly i need to press hard on this area when i try to write or scroll and sometimes it doesn't write even if i pressed hard
any ideas what could be the problem??!!!
the finger touches work normally only the stylus
i tried to record it but all screen recorders require rooting and i don't want to root this phone now
i took a screen capture by "Screen Write " feature with the air command .... you can see clearly the area that has no Red lines in the right of the screen
thnx all
Looks like a defect

thank you for your answer :good:
the problem solved by removing the case
i read on another forum that some types of cases interfere with the magnetic field of the stylus
weird :silly::silly:
i removed the case and the stylus is working fine now all over the screen

Do you have a case with a magnet?

ya the Problem was With the magnet in The Case
Sadly I had to cut throw the leather of The Case To remove the magnet
from inside
Better Than discarding the whole case
Thank you all for your answers :thumbup::thumbup:

Just to contribute.
I tested mine out. Smooth all the way left to right top to bottom. Effortlessly registered.

Any case with a magnetic latch causes this problem, happened to me in note 2 .that area of the screen is exactly where the flip cover magnet button is when the the case gets turned on itself

At least a few times a day when I'm using the phone the touch screen and capacitive buttons just totally stop responding, I have to lock the phone and unlock again and it will respond again.
Does this happen to anyone and why does it happen?

I have to agree.
I had similiar issue. Phone would hang then got message google+ failed. I then went to play store and update google+ to latest version and so far, issue seem to go away.
So quick to suggest a factory reset. The phone is 3 days old. I done some searching and after about an hour I found a thread where a guy talked to a Samsung rep and the rep told him to turn the phone off and remove battery for 30 seconds and then put it back in and turn it on and that should fix the issue.

Lately, I'm experiencing a strange problem with my Note III. Every now and then, the display does not react to anything but the S-Pen. I can sweep my fingers back and forth across the display, absolutely no reaction, I use the S-Pen, everything as usual.
Rebooting solves the problem, at least for some hours.
Has anyone experienced something alike?
Does a factory reset help?
Regards
J

Update:
Now, rebooting doesn't help anymore. I can only use the S-Pen to interact with my device.

Nice so you don't have to worry about your fingers.
Try to reset. Our take back and claim warranty.
