At least a few times a day when I'm using the phone the touch screen and capacitive buttons just totally stop responding, I have to lock the phone and unlock again and it will respond again.
Does this happen to anyone and why does it happen?

I have to agree.
I had similiar issue. Phone would hang then got message google+ failed. I then went to play store and update google+ to latest version and so far, issue seem to go away.
So quick to suggest a factory reset. The phone is 3 days old. I done some searching and after about an hour I found a thread where a guy talked to a Samsung rep and the rep told him to turn the phone off and remove battery for 30 seconds and then put it back in and turn it on and that should fix the issue.

Hello guys my power button seems unresponsive most of the times...I'm kindda worried about it since i dont have warranty also
I am using touch control and stuff to reduce the usage of it as much as possible :good:
My question is, will replacing it cause any problem?? Will it be noticeable that its replaced??
Thanx in advance :good:

It may not be a power button hardware problem. A few members, including me have experienced bad power button behavior ever since the 4.3 update. At times mine seems unresponsive, or acts as if I press it twice. Like if I push it once to lock my phone it'll quickly go off and back on as if I pressed it twice. Also when pushing it to wake the screen it doesn't seem to respond at times and have to push it again. It happens very randomly. I'd say about 2 out of 10 times or so. I even flashed back to 4.2.2 for a few days and I had no issues whatsoever.

Seems to be for some. It's odd that only a few members have reported the issue. I'm sure there are others who do really have a button hardware problem, but I've pretty much ruled that out for myself.

I have the EXACT same behaviour!!
I didnt notice if it was because of android 4.3 but I have read about others saying the same thing.
Im about to leave the house to go the service centre and I found this
Im taking it anyway. Lets see what they say.
But its not 2 out of 10 for me. More like 7 out of 10
Really doubt that is the OS it had to be the power button get it replaced from the service centre that should solve the problem.
Facing the same problem but the service centre in my area does not have the power button in stock had asked me to wait for a week so that they can arrange it.

I went to the service center. The lady told me the engineer was on leave. I'll have to go on Monday again! She said it was nothing. He will only have to open it and clean the button and it will work. She said it was a common problem.

Yes, it does sometimes, but not so often. Turning on the screen with power button also suffers from same delay. Fortunately not all the time though.
Same here. It do not occur normally, but at least a couple of times in a day use.

We are using first stock software and i hope in new software update or custom roms this problem will be solved. For me its irritating for such high end phone. I used s2 s3 s4 but never see sometime screen blinking like this.

I have the 9005 model, and it always turns off immediately (1/10th second?) with the power button. What sort of delay are you getting?

i have the 9005v model and i have no problem turning the screen off but it hesitates sometimes turning it on. i figured it was just my phone.
I notice that there is about a split second delay between pressing the power button and the screen turning on. Personally it doesn't really bother me that much but I can see how it would be an annoyance for others. I didn't actually notice this at all prior to reading this thread.
Damn my loss of innocence!
I got this too, somehow people say that it is related to how much the phone is using and whatever is in the RAM.
A software fix for this is plausible.

Nope, still none. Occasionally it has a slight delay when turning on, but never when turning off.
I'd suspect an app.

Yep, sometimes happens for me too. Probably some app doing something at the same time. Now with the S-View Cover, I haven't noticed any delays, when closing the flip.
I read the OP post several times before I realised you meant DELAY not Dealy!!
But I confirm mine does not have this problem (9005 version)

Mine takes like 5 seconds to turn on sometimes. By the time it turns on, it turns right back off cause it took so long.
Same here. I made even a thread about it also I have 9005 model and this delay annoys me very much. Was same problem om MJ1 and MJ3.
The issue is due to user applications running in the background. I have not noticed an issue myself but it's not classified as a glitch. Think of it like this:
Assume you are running a Windows based OS on your computer and you have a bunch of applications open. All of a sudden, you're in a mad rush to leave the office and you just click on Start | Shut Down. Your system engages the shut down procedure but then realizes you have open applications. You get the warning and you click "End Task". Windows will quickly terminate all open programs and shut down your system. In the interim, your system is in a delayed state before shutting down.
This makes logical sense and since you are powering off your device, the device is intuitive enough to understand you're powering off so it terminates all open apps running in the background but the question is... Why does this happen for some and not others. The only answer provided is it depends how many background applications are running and what resources are being utilized.
Hope this helps!
Happens sometimes when I've been busy. N9005, black
It's just an app that's a bit slow at shutting itself down.
Hello.
So I just bought my Note 3 7days ago. Today first problems appeared. Screen just went crazy. Its like im touching it and swiping it even tho my fingers are not even near it. Its just opening stuff up and doing **** without me pressing anything. If I try to press something it just opens up something else (I press on Phone and its opens up Magzine for instance).
I already tried factory reset.
I have 9005 model and phone is not rooted or anything. Everything is stock. Same as in stores.
Any Idea what can I do? I realy dont want to ship it to service via my carrier cuz ill just have to wait a month or so.
Thanks in front for any suggestions.

What I did is flash with odin the official stock and it solved the problem so far... But when I rooted my phone it came back so I needed to flash back to stock. I posted my problem to see if anybody can help but nobody has asnwer to it. Dial *#0*# and test the TSP HOVERING with an other note 3 or s4 because mine is not working good neither.
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes its the same problem. Except for me it also opens up random apps and presses on keyboard and it also swipe across the screen causing it to auto unlock the screen sometime when the screen is ON and locked. And I didnt spill anything on it. Its brand new stock phone.
On the video.
I didnt get on record that swiping will cause apps to randomly open... I do recommend you to do *#0*# and test your touch screen (in the menu *#0*#), test your TSP Hovering and the other hovering just to confirm that is not a hardware problem.
Make sure to complete the course without screen doing stuff u didnt do or vice versa: the screen didnt respond to what you did... For me, TSP Hovering was lacking responsiveness compare to my friends S4...
If everything is working fine, than download your compatible firmware from sammobile and flash it with Odin and you problem should go away. Careful sammobile as 2 flashable versions, one for kies and other for odin. I used odin so I recommend it.
Always read instructions btw on how to use odin.
Hit "Thanks" if I helped.

Try a reflash and see if still there... If it is then I Seen this same issue posted here a few weeks ago, hardware issue with the screen to finger touch but the digitiser still works for the Pen. May need to be replaced.
But if it worked fine before flash, I would still lean toward software, maybe you should wipe the cache first and do factory reset later before reflashing?
Hi I am new to this forum and I have had my S4 for about 3 to 4 months. Yesterday for some reason if I didn't touch my screen for about 15-25 seconds the phone just locks by itself. I don't know what caused this and I know I didn't turn on the auto lock feature. I want my phone so that it doesn't auto lock. Does anyone have this problem? Any suggestions? And my phone is on the latest software 4.3 if that helps anything. Thanks in advance.

It's in the Lock Screen options. You can set when to lock after the screen turns off.
To change the screen timeout, check the Display options.
