Lately, I'm experiencing a strange problem with my Note III. Every now and then, the display does not react to anything but the S-Pen. I can sweep my fingers back and forth across the display, absolutely no reaction, I use the S-Pen, everything as usual.
Rebooting solves the problem, at least for some hours.
Has anyone experienced something alike?
Does a factory reset help?
Regards
J

Update:
Now, rebooting doesn't help anymore. I can only use the S-Pen to interact with my device.

Nice so you don't have to worry about your fingers.
Try to reset. Our take back and claim warranty.

Just got my SGS2 and encountered a really odd problem.
When using the phone while lying down on your bed aka checking email in bed, the back key registers 2 key presses.
To reproduce it every time, just slide your finger slowly onto the back arrow from the bottom left.
This only happens while lying down and is actually pretty annoying because it makes navigating pages hard.
Anyone else have this issue?

Tried it and it's perfectly fine for me..

Actually, it happens both normally and upside down. Maybe time to get a replacement, can't be firmware right?

A couple of old threads reported that the back button is not sensitive enough and sometimes would require 2 taps for it to register the command, must be something related?
When looking into buying an s2, I was considering buying a damaged one where the touch buttons wouldn't work. Upon researching so I could find a fix and buy it cheap, it turned out to likely be a hardware issue and on a side note, most of the people that had reported similar or same issues also mentioned using a third party charger/non samsung one.
Basically the kist of the signs of problems - charger thing, erratic touch screen behavior while using the charger, intermittent issues with the soft keys not working, and eventually failure of the soft keys.
But every post I saw resulted in a successful warantee claim. Hopefully the same can be said for you if worst comes to worst
Thanks for the replies,
The phone is less than a week old so I might just have it replaced.
The double tap issue only happens when lightly/slowly pressing "back". But that is very often since the touch screen is so sensitive.. I feel like this all started after upgrading from kg7 to ki2 using kies. Oh well..

Quick question for the community: Would rolling back to KG7 from KI2 using Odin void my warranty? I want to see if the problem was still there, because the phone came with KG7 installed 10 days ago.
I noticed how the touch screen immediately got much more sensitive (too sensitive for my taste) after upgrading to KI2 in Kies. It seems like it starts registering a press when a finger is just barely hovering over the glass which makes it hard to control and the capacitive keys super jittery.
Now, both the "menu" and "back" buttons registers multiple key presses if not pressing them super firmly and quickly.
I hate this stuff... I have never once bought a phone without running into stupid problems like this.
If you only tried to flash official firmware your binary counter won't increase so you can just return to stock firmware.. Check your binary counter in download mode, if it increased even by one use a jig to reset it to zero (with old bootloader ofcourse)..

I do have this issue too, but i'll just tap it very fast to avoid the double tap. Using stock from KF1 still.

I just figured it out. The double tap only happens when the lights are off for the keys. I switched to 6 s/always on and I can't get it to double tap by itself anymore. Worth trying for others with similar problem!

After using the new SGTab 2 7" I have experiencing the touchscreen is unresponsive in some occasions.
For example closing the tabs in the brrowser on the X mark is very hard, both in the stock browser and Chrome.
When I try to clear my mssage in the bottom right corner, it also doesn't recognize my touch on various occasions.
It seems to me that along the edges of the screen, the touches are harder to recognize. Have any of you recognized this problem aswell?
After reading a review on Techradar.com, this passage stood out for me:
''Disappointingly, we found the touchscreen experience to be a little sub-par. The sensitivity of the display was lower than we expected, and we found it hard to register presses on small parts of the browser, such as links, and the close tab button.''

I encountered the same fault/defect on my Tab2 10.1
especially on small objects,
but it seems not to be constant.
meaning it generally works, but sometime i have to press multiple times to activate the selected button or object.
I found that fingerprints really lower the sensitivity of the screen. If you wipe off the screen after prolonged use, the touch experience will be much better. I verified this using a touch recognition program.

Yeah I wipe and I wipe haha..on all my devices. But it seems worse on this device, compared to all others even though I clean very often.
Cheers for your suggestion though

thats true
some times happens to me too in youte app, i notice it only there still.
Same thing here, it gets incredibly frustrating for me. It's very noticeable trying to close a tab.

Is it a hardware or software issue?

Got mine today. And ive been fine, then again i have a crappy screen protector lol.
After rooting and flash a custom rom on p5100, everything is OK. Become responsive. So I believe Samsung touchwiz on ics might be the cause of the problem.
Yeah me too not satisfied with the samsung touch wiz...but I don't think I am having problem with touch screen...though it is not as smooth as with iPhone 4...

Do you have a screen protector on? Mine was crappy with it on, so i removed it.

Had this problem when I was on Stock. Not dead touch points but it was more like an inability to sense my touch due to lag due to touchwiz. Changing to nova launcher helped... And then.... Tried CM9 rom and all is well. Not sure if you wanna take that route but for me... It worked. I am a happy camper!

Is there a way to calibrate the screen on the T2 10.1?
After 10 minutes of reckless racing 2, the screen gets unresponsive, i think it might be something to do with the battery or cpu getting hot, I am using the stock modified rom from metallice
Randomly it seems, when I tap on the touchscreen on my new N7 2013, nothing happens, and I have to repeat the process several times before my touches are registered.
Does anyone else have this problem?

See my thread titled " Another touch issue, with reproducible steps".
Go into developer options and enable "Show touches" and "Pointer location"
If you see your touches registering but the app isn't responding, it is probably a problem with the app. If you see random stuff on the screen, probably a problem with the digitizer or digitizer in combination with the driver/software in this release.
Ive experienced this a few times and it seems to be a software /hardware interface issue with particular custom rom builds ive installed. I know the touchscreen hardware itself was fine when I forced reboot into recovery and the touchscreen worked as normal in custom recovery.

Is everyone experiencing this or is it only certain units. Mine does it even when holding and firmly pressing. Gonna take it back and try another if its not all.

I wouldn't. If you had a Verizon Galaxy Nexus when it came out, you'll remember that it had the same issue with certain points on the screen (lower right hand corner) when using multi-touch applications. The entire screen would either stop seeing input or start going erratic and creating faulty inputs that weren't happening. It isn't a hardware issue, proven by some users experiencing it and some not. The only time I've experienced it is in the Netflix application while trying to choose a show to watch. I re-boot the application and viola, no more issue. Some in this thread even are stating that they only see the problem sometimes after getting the 4.3 update.
In short, it's software and not hardware.
Same issue when not touching with both hands somehow (like if the tablet is flat on a table).

Haven't had a problem with mine. I just got it today, and it's worked like a charm. I bought mine from Gamestop if that helps any.
My friend got a nexus with 4.3 on it that lives on it's own. It seems to make "touches" in different places from time to time. Anyone has any ideas on how to fix it?
Best regards,
><///*>
In most cases it is caused by the moisture of the hand.
At least when my phone or tab does this, I lock the screen and wipe both the screen and my hand with a cloth and it solves the problem.
Well, this is happening without even touching it so I'll guess it's not about any moisture? Or do u think there is some moisture sticking to the screen and therefore the screen thinks it's a finger that's pressing the area?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium HD app
i currently have this issue. it's not really a fix, but what i do is just lock it, then unlock it, and it's fixed.
Well, that isn't a great solution if the "problem" shows itself and you fix it after it happens
And about the moisture, that's apparently not the problem in this case regarding to my friend.

Try a reflash and see if still there... If it is then I Seen this same issue posted here a few weeks ago, hardware issue with the screen to finger touch but the digitiser still works for the Pen. May need to be replaced.
But if it worked fine before flash, I would still lean toward software, maybe you should wipe the cache first and do factory reset later before reflashing?
