[Q] Screen "presses on its own" - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend got a nexus with 4.3 on it that lives on it's own. It seems to make "touches" in different places from time to time. Anyone has any ideas on how to fix it?
Best regards,
><///*>

In most cases it is caused by the moisture of the hand.
At least when my phone or tab does this, I lock the screen and wipe both the screen and my hand with a cloth and it solves the problem.

Well, this is happening without even touching it so I'll guess it's not about any moisture? Or do u think there is some moisture sticking to the screen and therefore the screen thinks it's a finger that's pressing the area?

i currently have this issue. it's not really a fix, but what i do is just lock it, then unlock it, and it's fixed.

Well, that isn't a great solution if the "problem" shows itself and you fix it after it happens
And about the moisture, that's apparently not the problem in this case regarding to my friend.

Internal Short- repairable?

I realize one can't say for sure before opening the device up what is causing the issue. That being said...
My phone started having color banding/greenish hue a week ago. It's progressed to intermittent all blue or yellow where there's supposed to be any color (like an app frame), gets random SOD (and always after being in my pocket).
I can cause a coloration issue by squeezing case. It will go away after tapping the screen. reboots after SOD take a few tries and are painfully slow.
I started to take it apart then realized I'll probably mess it up if I don't know what I'm looking for.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is this sort of short easy for a non electronics technician to isolate?
Thanks!

Most likely your LCD is dying, but could be a motherboard issue as well.
Low chances(to null) to get it repaired by yourself...
I'm guessing it's not as simple as finding a loose connector and pushing it back on?

Yeah, I doubt it would be such an easy fix!

Problem unlocking N7?

Has anyone gotten this problem? Sometimes, when I try to unlock my Nexus 7, it doesn't actually unlock and turns off the screen. This happens several times before it finally does unlock. (Sometimes you have to activate Google Now before it will unlock) I would like to report this to Google but I am unsure how to do that by email. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem too. Thanks!
Surely someone must have had this problem too.

Nope, are you on a custom ROM or kernel?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
No, not even rooted. It seems to happen most frequently with third party apps.

Maybe it is a problem with the third party app? ...

I've noticed it especially with skpye, but it has happened with stock apps like chrome and gmail too.
EDIT: just had it happen with the Twitter app. It seems it goes to sleep earlier than it should when the unlocking problem happens.

I had the same issue. Let me guess...you have a folio case with the magnetic smart cover feature?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
No problem here...
I also at times have problems with the unlock screen.
The lock screen at times is just in a frozen state.
To fix I press the power button to turn of the screen and hit it again to turn back on the screen.
The lock screen then functions as usual.
Note: This happens even when I have no apps open.
Well as it turns out, a lot of the folio cases with the sleep/wake function use magnets that are too powerful. When the case is folded all the way back, the magnet is activating the sleep function. I almost sent my tablet in for RMA but then I realized it was the case. If it happens again, just let the flap hang and you should be able to unlock your device hope I helped.

I do not have the smart case and I have a frozen lock screen issue.
LCD often has wake up lag.

I have a folio case. Never thought that could be the issue. I'll try letting it hang freely from now on. Could someone tell Google about this so they can release an update to fix it? (since people without the case are having the same issue)

Nexus 7 Screen touching it self

Hi
I bought a nexus 7 4 months ago, but I'm having a strange problem! Sometimes, after some minutes of use, the screen starts touching itself...
The most strange thing is, if I restart the device, everything goes back to the normal
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Seriously though, maybe you need to RMA it if the touch screen is going bad
Try flashing a different kernel as that is what bridges hardware and software.
I had this same problem. I installed CM 10.1 and have not had that problem since.

Humm... But I have fear of flashing other ROM/Kernel because I will lose the warranty.
The strange thing is, if it's a screen defect why after a restart everything works perfectly? Or even after pressing the power button to make him sleep and then awake.

Just download something like the nexus 7 toolkit. You can find here on xda. With that you can flash back to stock and lock the boot loader and its as if you never voided the warranty. I've done it.

Hum, ok! Thanks.
You have flashed only the ROM or you flashed a kernel too?
sounds naughty!! "touching itself"
anyways, there might be water below the protective glass, is there anything like bubbles visible?

No.
the product MIGHT be faulty, a reboot cuts the power to the screen therefore stopping a potential short circuit that cause the activation of the touch sensors (the touch screen detects static electricity).
It normally isn't a hardware issue at all. What climate do you live in? Humidity and heat will cause ghost touches. Happens to me when I am outside on a humid day

Screen unresponsive

So a few times a day, my screen goes unresponsive. The only way to unfreeze it is to turn the screen off, back on, unlock phone, and it all works great after that. I can also pull the s pen out and it will work but fingers do not. Seems that it happens everytime I am bragging and showing off the phone. Really annoying. Any thoughts?
I have done a factory reset, cleared cache, disable pen recognition.

I'm not sure what else to try at this point. I have read things about screen protectors and SD cards not being compatible. May try to remove those today.

Removed SD card, screen protector and case... problem gone. Now to reintroduce and find the culprit.
I also removed my case. Everything looking good so put my case back on without screen protector for a few hours. Still no problems. Now I am backing up my SD card and reformatted it. Copying files (mainly pictures and music) back to SD card no. Still no problems yet. Looks like my screen protector was the problem. User Manual actually states to not use a screen protector...

Interesting. What brand and model of screen protector so we can avoid. Have been running naked and perfect but was planning to add a screen protector soon.

Was just about to hit the buy button on Verizon for these screen protectors and wireless charger back since they're 25% off with corp discount. And, I was thinking of all the screen protectors out on the market the Verizon one would be validated to work. Thanks man for saving my butt.
I have the ones from the Verizon store and do not share any of these issues. I run naked with just the protector. Had it on since release date.

Well problem is back but not as often. Trying to decide if it's the case or SD. Leaning towards the SD. May try to run without it tomorrow.

Have you tried going to settings control scroll to bottom
Tick box to increase touch sensitivity
Or could be caused by magnet on your case if present
I have the same problem. I'll touch an icon on my home screen and nothing happens. I touch the icon 3-4 more times and nothing happens. Then after the 5th or 6th try, it'll FINALLY work. All this happening in the matter of 4-5 seconds.
It's really annoying and considering this has a Snapdragon 800 with 3GB of RAM I'm really baffled.

The sensitivity did seem to help some, but still happening.
After a 2nd hard reset, everything is looking good so far. Not going to change any stock setting for a while and see how it goes. Installed my usual apps only and synced Google account. So far no problems. Will wait and customize setting after I see if I have any problems.

G2 not registering the second touch when playing games

Hey guys. I'm asking to find out if anybody else has experienced this and if there's a fix for it.
The first time I noticed this problem was when I changed the settings in the game 'traffic racer' to manual speeding and touch steering. It would play well for some time, but then it would stop registering the second touch sometimes, so you would have to touch it twice or thrice for it to register. I thought the game was badly coded, but today I downloaded Real Car Drift Racing and with manual throttle and touch steering and the same problem occurred. The phone won't register the second touch.
I tried updating touch firmware in hidden menu, tried to see if the phone registered all my touches in the hardware test and it did (but I won't do it again since I don't know how to get out of it without rebooting).
I'm stock unrooted D802 running the 20D firmware. Thanks in advance.

Lg G2 have some issues if the screen protector is bad quality.
Try to remove it if you have one and then check again.
If you dont have a screen protector try one more time to update touch fw through hidden menu.
just a random thought.. but does turning off the knock code help?
bit late edit.. I meant knock on, but I guess it hasn't anything to do with it
I'm using a 35 dollar tempered glass screen protector - it could be that my fingers get sweaty and that's what causes it.
I don't use knock code =) it's too inaccurate for me and the fact that the LED doesn't light up when the phone is unlocked bothers me =) thanks for your responses.

The problem seems to be heat. The g2 has problems detecting a touch when the area is hot. This could be due to the glass screen protector, but it's definitely annoying.

Yes indeed g2 have some issues in general with screen protectors.
I have tried almost everything and stop to an x-one tempered glass but i can see is not the same as without anything.
Best feeling is without but scratches waiting just around the corner...
