[Tuto][CWM]Install easily .img Touch recovery from Android Terminal[i9300] - Galaxy S III General

Hi, this is my first post and I hope it can help you!!!:good:
How to install the latest ClockWorkMod Touch recovery .img easily from the Android Terminal.
First think you need to know is that before do that, you already have your phone ROOTED.
1. Search the model and Download the latest Touch recovery from: clockworkmod.com/rommanager
2. Put the downloaded .img file in the root of your SD Card or phone
3. Rename the file to "recovery.img" (without quotes)
4. Download And install from the Market the app "Android Terminal Emulator" (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm)
5. Open the Terminal Emulator and grant root access
6. Type:
>su
>dd if=/storage/sdcard0/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096
>sync
(Note: in my case /storage/sdcard0/is the route where I put the recovery.img, change that with your route)
7. Type:
>reboot recovery
And enjoy you touch ClockWorkMod recovery

Why that way is what's missing from your post what is the benefit .
Most users will use the standard Odin method .
Plus many use the later safer versions like Philz or TWRP .

The idea is to bring another method to flash a recovery directly from your phone without need to convert the .img file into a .tar file. Just like do the app ROM Manager

I see but as CWM is a tar file and it flashes via Odin .

When you download the CWM from the web page, come in a .img file

The vanilla CWM recovery images come as *.img files in which case this method is of some utility. Just a kind of a good thing to know in case you want to flash the latest CWM recovery rather than wait for Philz or use an alternative like TWRP.

Yes it's with terminal emulator.
Have a look here for the command to use.
It can be used with any recovery.img, but you'll need root for the command to work.

yes, all same. use "Terminal Emulator" app from Play Store by Jack Palevich, you need root and busybox. open it, type "su" then enter, and then type again "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21 of=/storage/sdcard0/stockrecovery.img".. then an image file of your backuped recovery was created in your sdcard.. you can change the path of the "of"
HEY TYS0N!! THIS IS MY REPORT: I've flashed your "NON TOUCH CWM - the md5 file" with ODIN 3.07 and I got ONLY the external sd card shown in recovery but labeled as internal (I TRIED REBOOT but still same).. I was panicing.. then I flashed root with it.. and change my recovery as soon as it finished boot with "dd" command with the official one. I reboot to the *official* recovery, then got it all worked..
to the point: does the files that you provided is different?? or any damage in your files? do you got it with your phone working? if there's any, please change.. what's dangerous that people using your files and get their device brick.
thanks for read... greets

okay thx. I need to explain what I mean, there's no "flash zip from external sd card". Only "install zip from sd card". But after selecting "install zip from sd card" (this is must be internal right?), it displays my external sd, not internal.

All CWM-files replaced now. Downloaded from official CWM site and made new *.tar.md5
Hope it works now.
Updated "i8190_stock_recovery.tar.md5" with one that doesn't increase custom binary count.:good:
+1 for this thread, this is what the doctor order for my friends I8190..Thanks tyson..
So dude, if I install this stock he would return to the status of "official"? For my is appearing "modify". I tried to put it and still has not changed. You have the stock for the GT-I8190L? I need a lot. Thank you.

Recovery is the same for all versions. Using triangle away might help get your official status back if you triggered the custom binary count by flashing recovery through Odin.
Depends on what you've done to get your status modified.

Download ROM Manager. It'll install CWM for you.
Fwiw, most people seem to prefer TWRP, but it's your choice...
Download CWM Touch for Nexus 7 from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanage
Save it to computer.
Then boot Nexus 7 into bootloader, plug device into computer and use fastboot to flash the recovery IMG.
fastboot flash recovery C:\file\path\to\recovery.img

Hi, superuser.pm....
There's more than one way of skinning a cat!
There are several different ways of changing from TWRP to CWM.
ROM Manager should do it, and it should be the easiest. But I haven't used it for quite a while, so I really can't comment on it.
Alternatively, you could download the the CWM .img file directly to your PC... from here:
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager.
Make sure you get the right version for your device. Ideally, you want the 'touch recovery' version.
Rename it to 'recovery.img'...
And then fastboot flash it with....(with the Nexus 7 booted into the Bootloader).
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
----- OR -----
(YOU WILL ALREADY NEED TO BE ROOTED FOR THE FOLLOWING TO WORK. If you need a Recovery to initially acquire Root... then you'll need to use fastboot).
Download the CWM .img file (from the same link, as above) directly to your Nexus 7 (it's not big, around 6.6Mb, should download to the /download folder)...
And then use either of these two apps to flash...
Flash Image GUI or...
Flashify
---------
Flashify, I think is the better of the two, but the free version has a limit of 3 flashes per day (although I can't imagine why you'd want to perform more than 3 .img flashes in any given day).
In any case, either of these will 'write' a recovery .img to the recovery partition - and that includes either CWM or TWRP .img files. Just follow the on-screen instructions. Both apps will request Root access.
I prefer this method over fastboot... not because I don't like fastboot, but because I can easily flash a recovery (performed entirely on my Nexus7) without having to drag out my Windoze laptop (and avoiding dealing with Windoze is always a desirable goal IMHO!)

[Guide] [Lollipop] Reverting to stock recovery after rooting

In order to root Lollipop, you have to flash a custom recovery such as TWRP. The issue is how to revert back to stock recovery for OTA updates.
Fortunately, it's relatively simple and doesn't require downloading a recovery image from some shady third-party hosted website -- the stock recovery installation is still there on your phone!
Tools required:
A root-enabled file manager, such as Root Browser or Ghost Commander
Depending on the abilities of your file manager, a terminal program, such as Terminal Emulator
(Optional) Flashify, to backup your stock recovery for the future
1. Using your favorite file manager, rename /system/recovery-from-boot.bak to /system/recovery-from-boot.p
note: depending on the file manager, you might need to remount system as read/writeable first
2. execute (with root privileges) the shell script /system/bin/install-recovery_original.sh
if you use Root Browser as your file manager, you can execute this script as root directly. Otherwise go to the terminal app and type:
cd /system/bin
su
./install-recovery_original.sh
This will install the stock recovery.
3. Reboot into recovery to make sure it worked
4. (Optional) Backup the stock recovery using flashify. Now you'll be able to revert to stock recovery in the future without going through all these steps!

I currently have KitKat installed (4.4.4), rooted, unlocked bootloader & TWRP installed on my XT1063 and unable to receive OTA updates. I've checked your proposed method. There's no "install-recovery-original.sh" file in system/bin rather there's a shortcut of the file "install-recovery.sh" this shortcut points to "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh". My question is that if i execute this file "install-recovery.sh" will it restore stock recovery? I've the backup file placed at the location mentioned by you and i've already renamed it to "recovery-from-boot.p".

Having trouble with clockwork mod any help is appriciated

Hello, I have been messing around with clockwork mod recently but I'm having some troubles I'll list them below. if anyone could help me that would be great!
Question 1. Not sure what file to use. I am using a galaxy s4 GGt-i9505 and when I try to install CWM from the app it says jfte and if i click phone not listed it says gt19505 not supported. I'm not sure if this is the correct file to use because I looked on the clockwork mod website and seen the manual install files and found the gt-i9505 files on there. So basically my question is for the galaxy s4 do I flash the jfte CWM file or the gt-i9505 file? If I Google search jfte it says it just another name for the galaxy s4 so I'm not sure.
Question 2.I have had an issue with system ui crashing when trying to install the jfte file through the app rather than through Odin and once it says installed and reboot phone i still don't have Clockwork recovery it still is the original recovery that came with the phone. How do I fix this?
Question 3. Every time I do a backup to my external SD card it puts the date of the backup as somewhere in the 1970s and puts the time to 11pm and then when I try to restore to the backup it says MD5 mismatch and tells me the location where it sent the recovery.log and I can't get any of my backups to restore without MD5 miss match Every time. Does anyone know a solution.
I Am rooted and I am running the latest version of lolipop. Is lolipop compatible with CWM?
Thanks for the help! Shaun.*:good:
Solution: install TWRP instead of CWM. CWM is no longer updated, and certain ROMs won't flash with it. The version you want is jfltexx.
How do I get twrp? Could you link me please? And can it be flashed with Odin?
If you are facing MD5 mismatches it means your backups are probably destroyed. It could be happened because of a bad sd card or (probably) because of a bad , older or corrupted recovery.
Just try to download a recovery from here.
I would suggest you to download a .tar (touch) version (flashable with odin)
If for some reason you cannot flash recovery with odin but (as you said) you have a rooted rom ,you could flash it by terminal or by using adb.In this case just extract recovery.img from the .tar file to your adb tools folder and flash it by using the commands:
Code:
adb push recovery.img /tmp
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21
dd if=/tmp/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21
After that you should have flash the recovery to your recovery partition.
---------- Post added at 07:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:01 PM ----------
If you want a twrp recovery instead of a cwm you can download it from here.
You should also take a look here for the lattest version of twrp recovery.
You can find the official release of TWRP for GT-I9505 here.
Thanks for the help what would you recommend? CWM OR TWRP?
And is it true that clockwork no longer updates

Maybe someone make an unofficial build for this device in the future but I think the official support has been stopped.
I would recomend you TWRP as it has adb mode if your rom and download mode goes down.

Need to know if Can flash stock recovery from twrp

Is there a stock recovery zip that can be flashed with twrp to keep root but just get stock 3e recovery.
If so any links guys?

Download the full ROM for your device from this thread:
[Firmware] Moto X Style/Pure Stock Software
Extract the files in the zip file. In there, you should have a file called recovery.img. Copy this file to your phone/sdcard. You can then flash this by going to Install in TWRP and browsing to the folder you copied the image file to. Press Images in the button right corner and choose your file in the list. Select Recovery when the next screen comes up and then Swipe to Flash. Once this is done, reboot the device. Please note, I take no responsibility if you have issues using this method and I recommend making a full backup before flashing any file. I would personally flash the recovery file using the ADB/Fastboot method though this method has worked fine for me. You may also need to note that if you need TWRP again, you will need to flash it using the ADB/Fastboot method as the stock recovery does not offer the option to flash custom files.
Hope this helps.

As far as I am aware, a file ending in .md5 or in this case .img.md5 is not actually the image file, but the md5 checksum file. You would need to download the actual image file. The md5 file is just a verification file to confirm that the file is correct before it flashes. If the file is not present, TWRP will bypass the check and flash. If the file is present and matches, TWRP will continue the flash. If the file is present and the check does not match, TWRP will abort the flash.

Apologies, just realised you have the XT1575. I have an EU XT1572 hence why I linked to the thread above. As you have the XT1575, use the files from this thread:
[FiRMWARE] XT1575 PuRE FiRMWARE aNd STuFF
The recovery files are available to download separately in the above thread. Just choose the file you need depending on which version of Android you are running.
Hope this helps.
