Im looking for an rom based on Jelly Bean 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3 that will record in 720p for my Arc S, I cant both be a clean vanilla version or an Xperia-design I know that Slim Bean 4 have 720p. but I dont like the design in that one
Kitkat would be great, but so far what I have read there are no 720p support yet on that one...
So anyone here know?
There is no such ROM, as 720p recording does not work properly on Jelly Bean (low framerate + consumes way too much RAM, I think it was about 30 MB).

18fps 720p on Racing Bean
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093720
That's the issue. 18 FPS is very slow and laggy compared to normal 25-30 FPS video. And thereby it is not worth to give about 30 MB of RAM, just to have 720p feature, which you probably don't use that often (who knows, maybe you do).
720p needs kernel which supports 720p... Some of the fusion and lupus kernel versions supported that... But if you want for jb 4.2 and above you ll need to go into kernel compiling...

For a few days now i'm on GRI40 from dsixda, just got my 16gb class 10 storage card. I would really like to have 720p video recording ! I tried some things all i got was a non working camera. So i just enabled 720p in the media_profiles.xml also upgraded the audio to 128Kb 24Khz. I get 1280x720 but only 16-17 frps, its set to 30 frps So i could use some help from all you great developers !
very soon will be integrated into the cyanongen!
This is through the Google Frameworks that they break and resume regularly and the fps is really not good using these frameworks so CyanogenMod uses HTC framework the same that is implemented by HTC in Desire etc and using that FPS goes around 28-30 on 720p, i dont think reverting to old stuff just to enable 720p is worth it, it would require a rehaul of frameworks and kernel and many features from camera wouldnt be there. I tried it already some days ago but knew it wouldnt be of any benefit
Thx for your reply, good to hear you tried it already
Im new to android/linux so was just playing around a bit with my phone
Still i would really like to take better recordings, just have to wait till i get my samsung galaxy s 2
I will take the downloads down for now maybe in the future we will get 720p
Hi,
we can take photos in 3.2 megapixel, so why we can not record video in this resolution or in 1megapixel resolution?
this 3 steps maybe can work
3 easy steps
- if reason is weak processor speed? overlock it
- if reason is low ram? extend it with microSD card and apply SD-Booster
- custom recording app with modified recording resolution. or only change /data/local.prop (but not work for most phones)
True

what a breaktrough!!! xD if it were that simple we would have 720p recording by now
ya.. it s possible.. but it just damn hard.. may b it needs to rewrite the vid rec driver.. :/

i think he meant swap partition..
Ever thought about this:
- sensor not good enought to record 60 (or even 30/15) Photos with 3,2 MP in one second
Every other camera also needs to lower the resolution when recording video. Thats not a question of processor speed or RAM.

So...
what about this:
Apple Ipod Touch 4G
Camera
Photo: 0.7MP (960 x 720), It's VGA!
Video recording:720p 30fps, it's HD!

everything depends on the sensor......ours can handle higher res recording
but drivers need to be edited...
im trying to get a kernel with higher res but the drivers are tough and i have no

Copied from android market:
SD-Booster speeds up your SD-Card (external memory-card) up to 40 times! Enjoy a new feeling of speed on your Android smartphone anytime and everywhere you are.
Starting apps, listing to your favorite music or just swapping data with your PC ? Whatever you do, the SD-Booster improve your phone speed!
SD-Booster needs root permission to run, otherwise SD-Booster can't do anything!

I dont know this is really working but....

So try to record your PC desktop with 30fps in resolution 1280x1024 with PATA/ATA HDD and 2GHz processor (1 core) if your HDD is low it cannot save 30 images(frames) per second to your HDD without lag.
If processor is low for rendering 30 frames frames in 1280x1024 resolution into video file and if HDD is too slow to write it, it is Fail. so if in our mobile is possible to speed up read/write speed of sd card and is possible to overlock cpu from 667MHz to 1300MHz, increase the ram using swap, so hardware side is done.
I think it is possible to change /or create custom\ driver for camera and customize recording resolution to our phone.
Sensor is one, If it can capture photo in 3.2MP it can also capture 25 photos/frames\ per second in 3.2MP and render it into video file without lags.
But I think 3.2MP is too much for our devices hardware. So 720pixel is enough to record a pretty nice video.

I am only php developer so I cant help you in this :-\
you are talking about filmin a video in 3.2 megapixel?!?!? are you out of your mind? Good cameras and high end phones take video in 1080p - that is 1920x1080=2megapixels. You think our little phone can do better? Its not only about RAM, CPU, the drivers need to be reworked but there are always hardware limitations that can not be changed. I'll bet all my money that there is no possible way to get even 720p video with our phone. If we get vga (640x480) recording we can be very happy. That is really hard to do, it may even be impossible since that is 4 times the current quality and it probably takes 4 times more power from memory, CPU, GPU, RAM and 4 months of making new drivers.

not in 3.2 in 720pixel
This theory could work, but I think we need a driver re-write. Not only that, but can our GPU even display 720p +?

Someone was arguing about video in 3.2mp. Anyway, we can't even play 720p video without stutering, so recording is impossible. VGA could be possible however, lg p500 has vga recording with 600mhz CPU and better GPU, if we can get the CPU to do more job than GPU there is a chance. Unless the sensor just can't take it, then we are stuck.

we should be aiming for about 720x480 or close......
its a good res and our gpu should be able to handle it!
i can smoothly play dvd rips on mine without lag or anything at stock speed..
sensor shouldnt be a prob we just need a guy who is good with c++ knowledge
or driver writing experience....anyone?? if u need help with kernel i have successfully compiled a kernel from source and have all the necesary tools
It would be good if we were able to record in aac audio quality, and not like now - in amr.
What will give to us higher resolution if audio is horrible ?
GT-I5800 (Galaxy 3) Video Recording: increase please
Hello at all,
i use the DutchMods ROM V5.3 on my Galaxy 3. In my opinion it's a perfect firmware... but there is a thing: poor camera (Photo and Video). It don't change change from Samsung Stock one. Video has 320x240... a very poor resolution. I think there is some possibilities to increase the resolution to 640x480 (15 fps). The solution can be a post elaboration. When you save the video, the apk Interlace the photo or video. In this way you can have 640x480 video and more high megapixel in photo. The are very good routines for interlace (for example in N70 Nokia there was a program who shot 4 photos and build an high resolution photo using 4 low res photo). The same with video : 320x240 can be 640x480 video with less number of frames. It's a suggest for all custom firmwares.
Thank you at all.
Bye.

ARE YOU KIDDING ?
"I can see that SDbooster or whatever, even if it converts the r/w speed to 1TBps, its not to be used as a ram
SD card is a removable media, "if it can hold apps moved from the phone memory, IT IS MOVING. same for data and everything.."
but by no means it can be used as "Random Access Memory"
RAM is directly connected to the phone and it is permanent. Thats all a person can explain"
BTW, reason is the SCREEN RESOLUTION and LENS

I don't think that is a problem cause 25 FPS is enough right!!

Do the MOD works on MIUI Rom? (Is it CM based?)
Just remembering, I'm talking about the PLAYBACK, I, actually, don't care about the 720p recording... Just need the 720p playback.
Thanks,
K.
720p playback is enabled by default on miui (yes it is cm7 based). That patch isnt required.
Although playback isnt that great. Its pretty laggy
There is a way to play it without lag?
(Actually, i tried to play it before on the MIUI ROM, I thought that it don't play 720p because of the lag, hahaha )
You can reduce lag by:
1) overclocking to 1.1 or 1.2 ghz and set scaling to performance
2) get a better sdcard (higher class)

Hi.
I am an owner of a Motorola Defy (MB525) with installed CyanogenMod 7.1.0-11
I would like to know how can I enable the recording in 720p without causing any damage to the device.
thanks
P.S. This is the link where I got the Cyanogen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
P.S.2. I've already look through the different Thread without any success.
The CM7 doesn't support 720p recording, that functionality isn't released yet, and never will be on CM7, not in the Froyo Kernel based... i read that Quarx is working on that on the GB Kernel, with the time, will have 720p recording...
But you can improve camera quality herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030603

For 720p recording you can try ms2ginger 2.1 rom. Use LG camera pro and high bit rate, the video quality with 720p is too good. Also with ms2g the standby consumption is very good, for every 2.5-3 hours 1% consumption for me. with cm7 and roms based off cm7, idle time consumption is 1% for every 45mins. :-(. May be with all AOSP projects it is like that.
Hi!
I have a question about 720p also, but i didn't want to start new thread.
So i wnat to ask, if SOC module is capable of recording 720p? Somewhere i read that SOC module is not worse than BAYER, just the drivers of it are not written so good. So somehow can it be possible?
the lens is capable of capturing video at full resolution(15fps), 1080p (30fps), 720p (60fps).
But as i understand moto hasnt been able to implement the drivers to make it work. Since the camera uses proprietary drivers, we cant do much about it.
Even in the best case scenario we could probably get 720p (30fps) and not more as we are limited by cpu and gpu
Hello everybody, I was thinking about our HD2's camera module, and I realized that we don't have the same features yet from ICS to JB as in GB.
Let me explain this concept better...
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pictures:
Well about pictures I think we can do almost they same things on all Android versions, a little exception for Barcode scanners that works at 99.9% and not fully working, but it is negligible
Videos:
Now we can consider two ways...
GB Videos
ICS and JB Videos
- GB Videos:
Ok, GB videos are the perfection, because we can record up to 720p @ 30FPS (maybe more but I never tried)
- ICS and JB Videos:
Well that's the real point of this topic, because I'm really bored to think that if I need to record something special, probly it could be a crappy video file.
Why that? Because on ICS and JB (never tried JB but I know that we have almost the same lib) the recording is up to 800x480 @15FPS
The resolution is not a real problem, because is enought bigger to watch a great video, but about the FPS??
I don't want to sound like a fanatic who just want to know that have the best in his own hands but he don't see any differences between two things....
But when I watch a video recorded @15FPS I see a stuttered video and it's really annoying, because on GB it was fantastic and the camera module works best it can do.
So my question is:
Can we hope in a better camera in the future?
I'm not saying better than GB but just as good...
HD2 is the King and I think that this can be possible sooner or later :fingers-crossed:
Did you manage to record 720p @ 30 fps on an HD2 in Android? What ROM did you use?
I think it was typhoon 7.2cm but maybe with other is possible too
And just once I recorded at 1080p lol but never happened anymore.
I use LGcamera to record because it allows to set different parameters
Thanks for the tip. I can't test right now because I switched to JB this morning, I would waste the rest of the day i I were to switch back to GB and back.
Lgcamera is great on JB though; the stock app can only shoot video at ~4 fps at the moment.
