Hello everybody, I was thinking about our HD2's camera module, and I realized that we don't have the same features yet from ICS to JB as in GB.
Let me explain this concept better...
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pictures:
Well about pictures I think we can do almost they same things on all Android versions, a little exception for Barcode scanners that works at 99.9% and not fully working, but it is negligible
Videos:
Now we can consider two ways...
GB Videos
ICS and JB Videos
- GB Videos:
Ok, GB videos are the perfection, because we can record up to 720p @ 30FPS (maybe more but I never tried)
- ICS and JB Videos:
Well that's the real point of this topic, because I'm really bored to think that if I need to record something special, probly it could be a crappy video file.
Why that? Because on ICS and JB (never tried JB but I know that we have almost the same lib) the recording is up to 800x480 @15FPS
The resolution is not a real problem, because is enought bigger to watch a great video, but about the FPS??
I don't want to sound like a fanatic who just want to know that have the best in his own hands but he don't see any differences between two things....
But when I watch a video recorded @15FPS I see a stuttered video and it's really annoying, because on GB it was fantastic and the camera module works best it can do.
So my question is:
Can we hope in a better camera in the future?
I'm not saying better than GB but just as good...
HD2 is the King and I think that this can be possible sooner or later :fingers-crossed:
Did you manage to record 720p @ 30 fps on an HD2 in Android? What ROM did you use?
I think it was typhoon 7.2cm but maybe with other is possible too
And just once I recorded at 1080p lol but never happened anymore.
I use LGcamera to record because it allows to set different parameters
Thanks for the tip. I can't test right now because I switched to JB this morning, I would waste the rest of the day i I were to switch back to GB and back.
Lgcamera is great on JB though; the stock app can only shoot video at ~4 fps at the moment.

You can't, that's BS. No ROMs properly support more than 480p @ 30FPS.

in which ROM did you just do such a thing like that...? :-?
or even 720p recording...? which rom...?
Trust me you can with cm 7.2 typhoon if I remember correctly... I recorded at 720p @30fps with LGcamera pro
Is a big step anyway to get 30fps even if 800*480
so there are roms that can record at 720p?

We all know that 720p recording is working on this sd build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038694
But I asked in the questions, and the person that uploaded the video said that it was a 2.2 froyo build.
the question is, is that a sd build, or a nand build?
The max resolution is 480p on Youtube. The vid is fake ?

Why do I only see a 480p max in the resolution selection?

WP7 is the single software on hd2 which records 720p so it seems to be wp7

I don't really understand you guys.. I've tried recently that Gingerbread ROM that claims to record 720p (just an older version), you could easily select 720p record mode, and the preview was ok, and even it would record, but the output was awfull, it was definitelly less than 720p, and 1-3FPS!!! Now i've been trying to watch an eye on that thread, people are claiming that it sort of records in 720p but with 1fps only, which, of course, sucks hard. (but it might be a progress somehow)
Secondly, the first video from this post is 16:9 and it looks good, though it's for sure not an HD video (and never was). The tricks is that you just need to install MIUI (or at least MIUI camera) and you're gonna get the best camcorder yet available for Android (imho), which also records 800x480 in very good quality (though sound quality is quite bad), and makes stills in 16:9 aspect.
Thirdly, it's definitely not a WP7 video, as i'm using WP7 in dual boot with Android for some time now, and WP7 is even my main OS on the phone, the video quality is great, it's sharp, (once in a while skips some frames, but definitely better than others), but has a bad hue, it's violet-greenish, as can be seen on youtube if you'll search HD2 720p recording...
And these are my fifty cents to the topic.. And as a wrap-up i can easily claim that i still don't believe in miracles, untill i'll get clear proofs or i'll just try it by myself..

Have you even read nickriley's post? That video proves nothing. 720p recording is useless at an FPS of 1-3, and so is a topic once more showing it is doing just that, which has been known for days already.
Here it is link
Big improvement.
That really is big change. Hopefully developers get that to custom roms!

just tested it. not a single lag at 720p on youtube with flash on opera. With cm7 it lagged like hell.
Also, the GPU has been fixed so you can forward the video and it will not give you "This video is not available." when watching videos from the internet.

Υeah thats right big 3d graphics improvement, nenamark2 i get 31fps (thats even higher than dual core htc sensation) I updated first post with a new link taken with lgcamera (720p 30fps , acc stereo sound 128 kbps 48khz). The quality of sound and video is better on the file i got on my pc. thats because youtube compressed the file and made it from 8200kbps to 3000kbps
Now we have real 720p recording. for me this was the major improvement of 2.3.5
Could someone also post some photos?
Along with some info (native camera app, lgcamera)
Hey guys,
I'm gonna keep it short. My dad has a galaxy s and he's too fond of watching videos. Unfortunately, on every ROM I've tried, video playback isn't smooth at all. One of the reason I guess is the second core and hardware decoding issues whatever, but there should be a solution.. which I am not able to. I feel really bad for him, help me out?
He bought my a Galaxy Nexus and uses the i9000 himself and I really wanna help him out.
Videos play great for me on CM9 Noghtlies with stock kernel

what video format you tried ?
anyway galaxy s is only single core. cmiiw
hi guys.
hi TigerCourage and thank you. i was wondering about Video Playback and HD recording on ICS!!!
* i am now value pack 2.3.6 JVU and i am afraid to move ICS specially some guys told me to get back 2.3.3 an i don't understand why?
no problem with any sort of video on any ics rom that I have tried so far
thanks guys
**do i need lagfix in ICS ???
i'm om Aokp every video running smooth
btw dont try to play 1080p on the device it's not gonna work with H/W decoding it will lag as hell
thank you
why, you couldn't make "lagfix"

there is no lag fix this problem with codec not capable to play 1080p that why its lag
btw what the point of playing 1080p on 480*800 screen
Confused by the OP's question: do videos not play at all? Or are there certain codecs/bitrates that are posing a problem?
To be perfectly clear: the term "lagfix" is essentially a filesystem change from RFS to EXT4 and is only applicable for Samsung ROMs that use RFS. All AOSP-like ROMs like CyanogenMod are using proper file systems (ext4 and yaffs2) to begin with so there is no "lag" to "fix." Consider the lagfix term deprecated
720p videos in wmv format do not support h/w decoding, therefore they are very slow. With mp4 or mkv it's all fine though.
Do give dice player a shot...
Playback of 720p mkv's is fine for me on both Slim ICS 3.6 and the latest CM nightly with MXplayer/BSplayer.
But TV OUT is really bad though. 720p lags so much I only get about 2-3 fps. And lower res videos show a lot of screen tearing on the tv during scenes with a lot of movement.

+1 for this, happens to me too...
I just converted the videos -.- couldnt take it anymore.
As usual, the 'final frontier' of getting the latest and greatest Android flavor fully functional on our 'old' phones is videos and video recording. That it works at all is amazing, and is thanks to the equally amazing devs who continue to support the OG Droid incredible. Now, I'm not a dev and don't pretend to be, I just like to experiment. The purpose of this thread is to document the current state of things, and to share what works and what doesn't work. I'm using Pons CM10, but Pons AOKP, Albinoman AOSP, and Evervolv should all provide a similar experience as far as video stuff is concerned.
First, the state of 'stock':
- Video recording does actually work. The camera preview is wonky, but it does record real video footage. This ain't no 720p though, frame rate is maybe 6 fps - that's pretty jerky if you ask me. Audio is steady.
- Video playback is very bad. While the stock video player seems to handle audio OK, the video stutters badly, sometimes pausing on one frame for several seconds.
- YouTube playback is smooth and seamless if the phone is in landscape mode, the video is full screen, and you don't touch it. Anything that causes the screen to display anything other than the video being played will cause it to flicker and sometimes pause.
- Netflix does not work at all.
Next, the state of 'free' apps from the market:
- Videocam Illusions can record smoother video than the stock camcorder, but only because it allows you to lower the quality and uses its own software encoding. At the resolution of the stock camcorder (640x480), the frame rate is similar. Audio quality can be increased with little or no impact on video quality.
- MX Player, by default, plays slow and stuttering video just like the stock player. With hardware decoding enabled, video files play quite nicely (provided they were recorded on something other than a dinc running JB!). Audio sometimes goes silent for a second or two.
- Camera ICS allows increasing the video bitrate (and has less problems with wonky preview) but records videos just like the stock camcorder.
- lgCamera and DoubleShot allow much more control over video recording quality. However, the only settings that work are H.264 encoding, 15fps, 640x480. Which, of course, yields similar results to the stock camcorder - about 6 fps at best. Audio quality on these apps can be tweaked nicely.
My questions for those who know about such things:
Would it be possible to get the stock video player to use hardware accelleration?
Would it be possible to enable other video encoders in the ROM, at least for experimental purposes?
Sorry to break it to you man but the dInc is a bit behind the times. From what I understand the lack of updated hardware drivers from the manufacture is what's limiting it to be further more compatible with the latest AOSP. The glory days of the dInc were CM7, past that it went down hill IMO.

I'm fully aware that the Dinc is ancient by cell phone standards - that's why I have one. The way I see it, I could:
1. Pay $500 for the latest and greatest phone.
2. Get back on a Verizon contract and pay $1200/year for the latest and greatest phone.
3. Buy a used Dinc for $80 and deal with a few issues like this
Which choice is the right one for me is obvious, though it's definitely not the right choice for everyone.
FWIW, video recording via the stock camcorder has been broken since about 10-29 (two days after I posted the OP). There have been rumors of a possible fix in the works from Evervolv, but I think they're mostly focused on the increasingly difficult task of bringing the latest version of Android to what used to be top-of-the-line phones.
I dont know.. Although video recording doesnt work, CM10 is absolutely amazing and stable on Dinc(at least pon's roms are).

I'll second that. The camera situation is getting better slowly, as bugs are being ironed out upstream and the devs try out various fixes. For me, the benefits of jb outweigh the downsides, though I definitely did appreciate the consistency of cm7.2. Perhaps you should stick with that for now?
I've had to switch back to cm7.2 recently. Flickering YouTube really started to get to me. Really miss the UI, though. Anyone find a fix or at least a way to alleviate the flickering?

Indeed the flickering in YouTube seems to be gone in your 4.2 build - that's a pleasant surprise! Video stuff in other places is pretty much unchanged; MX Player plays videos smoothly if hardware decoding is enabled, the stock video player stutters badly, trying to record videos FC's the camera, and VideoCam Illusions can still record medium-low quality videos.
The 4.2 ROM is awesome, Tiny. Thanks so much! I don't see the flicker anywhere anymore (currents, chrome, etc). Aside from the odd fc that I'm unable to reproduce, this may be more smooth than 4.1, cm10. Also, videos recorded in in gingerbread ROMs play fine for me on the stock player.

Dear community,
our HTC U Ultra cannot record 1080p with 60fps by default. However, the snapdragon 821 is capable of recording fullhd with this framerate as other phones with this cpu proof.
Is there there any way or app to enable fullhd with 60fps?
I have tried several apps like Filmic Pro, Open Camera and cinema fv-5 already and none of these apps allow to enable 60 fps.
Is there another way?
Thank you.

Thx. Have you got Oreo? Was wondering if it was anything new for the cam app.
Thank you very much madphone for pointing me in the right direction The Google Camera App with HDR+ works perfect for my needs and produces beautiful 1080p60 videos!
For videos the viewfinder works also very smooth. For pictures the viewfinder is laggy, as mentioned in the linked thread.
Video files are always safed to the internal storage but as the ulra has at least 64gb of internal storage the videos can be manually copied to the sdcard from time to time.
btw: I am aslo still on android 7.0 at the moment with a european device.

well this sucks cuz this phones hardware is totally capable of 1080p 60 fps but for some ****ing reason HTC doesnt allow us !:crying:
alright so i have tried the google camera app and yes it record 1080p 30 fps even when i choose 60 fps but i did notice something really weird. when choose 60 fps the video size is always and i mean always way bigger than when i choose 30 fps i dont really know why this is the case and am really confused because i come out with 2 identical videos with the same frame rate at the same resolution and when is about more than 60% larger than the other! so i dont know howto explain that
one more thing is that it might actually be a hardware problem maybe the sensor isnt capable of 1080p 60 am just assuming as i dont really know any way if any of you guys found any thing that could help us out with this problem please let us know
and have a nice day
Maybe the metadata is just wrong. I will try later.
