I think it not supposed to be im deep sleep, because the system must manage the charging process. Even when you turn off your phone, and you plug the charger, the phone wakes up to manage the charging.

Yea OP, no big deal in your phone staying at the 384mhz step. However the other problem may be cause for concern. Are you using a custom kernel (or ROM, which may have a customized kernel)? If the phone is stock, are you touching the screen all the while noticing this? How are you monitoring this behavior?
Sorry for so many questions but there are many things that could potentially be going wrong.

I was charging my phone last night, and in the morning my phone was extremely hot. I've never felt anything as hot before with my phone. I had to shutdown the phone and pull out the battery fast. Seriously, I thought my phone would explode. Did anyone else experience the same problem??

yes I am. I've also noticed that my phone charges really fast too, maybe 2 or 3 times faster than its normal rate?
Any ideas to prevent it from overheating while charging??
wrong place to post, u should have posted it here or here
Do you have an app called "SETCPU"? if not some android builds or older builds don't have control over the CPU and leaves it running at 998MHz even in sleep mode when it should be 245MHz in sleep mode. Get the app in this fourms. It will even allow you to overclock up to 1190MHz for extra proformance but may kill your battery faster. I once had this problem and sloved it with SETCPU. Good Luck.
you can also set a profile for your CPU to max out at say 600mhz if it goes above 40 degrees c or what have you.
Or maybe his charger is faulty...
I was wondering if people shut down their tablet at night? I always do, is anything wrong with this?
Thanks.

I don't, and no of course there's nothing wrong with that! Why would there be? (;

I just let it automatically go into Airplane mode during my sleep hours, the free Battery Widget Reborn app can do this. Only about 3-4% overnight drain.

The only time I power down my N7 or smartphones is when I'm doing something to the system that needs a clean boot.
You're weird. :silly:
we have 5 android devices in our home..
NONE of them have ever been left off for longer then it takes to reboot when flashing .. My iconia can go weeks Sometimes months without being shut down or rebooted..
but you can turn it off without any issues .. NOTHING Weird about that.. Giggles
No need to turn these off. Tablets are designed to be "always ready" devices anyway.
I turn mine off at night as well.
We can form a support group to keep the "I never turn my N7 off" crowd from bullying us into changing our ways. :highfive:

Every time you shut down your Nexus 7 an innocent puppy dies!
I leave mine on over-night. In sleep mode it'll only lose a few percent battery life over-night, so it's not really an issue for me.
I want to preserve battery as much as possible, so off it goes.

I turn mine off because I always find that a fresh boot every day makes stuff run nicer, its way more noticeable on my aging phone, but I'm sure it happens to some extent on even this beast

I would say turning it off every night is a bad thing, it's built to be on all the time, android is built to put a device in to a deep sleep mode when you're not using it. The cpu is far better off going to sleep then being powered on and off every day..... Just make sure you turn off wifi or change the setting to "Never keep wifi on during sleep" and uncheck "Notify me when an open network is available"
I turn mine off at night
I prefer to shut down the system every now and again. A fresh boot can make the device quicker.
Its also good to, every once in a while, clear all the system caches that have been created.
Why would you think that there is anything wrong with shutting down the tablet?
I switch mine off most night but it sleeps on other nights as it only uses minimal battery while sleeping, just feel bad for leaving on when I wouldn't my laptop or other computer.
Has anyone left there tablet on the dark clock screen (sort of like an illuminated alarm clock mode) overnight, wondered what battery use was like? Was thinking about trying it to use as an alarm clock.

Hardware wear is a real phenomenon. You put needless strain on the CPU and all other major components including SD and RAM by powering it on and off regularly.
I usually charge them overnight
No, leave mine on (sleeping) all night, every other night, or, thrid night, I leave it charging. Can't really see any advantage to shutting it down completely every night, the amount of power saved, would be minimul I think ....................
I turn off wifi with home screen toggle, then just shut my auto-off case. I get up in the AM and have lost 2-3%. That ain't going to effect the next time I need to charge by more than 30 minutes. I just hate waiting for the reboot. I reboot only when I get a glitch, maybe every other week.
So about a week or two ago my phone randomly shut itself off. I'm not sure exactly what happened but I just locked it and slid it in my pocket and an hour or so later I checked it and it wouldn't turn on, yet I could feel the gpu/processor getting extremely hot after a minute or so of failed attempts. Also the trackpad would flash red, which I had never noticed before. Prior to this I had been noticing my battery was draining quicker.
So when I try to charge it will charge itself for approximately a minute or so and then the orange LED will go out, again the processor/gpu gets very hot. After about an hour if I come back the phone will feel cold again as if It had been off and the phone won't turn on. I was able to buy a new battery today, because I read it could be related to a dead battery. This new battery boots to the familiar HTC mytouch4g intro (which is good, considering the old battery doesn't even power on), but then will shut off immediately after that or occasionally just get stuck at that screen. I can boot into recovery but then it says low battery voltage. I tried to do a factory reset but it just takes me back to the bootscreen again and shuts off.
I'm not sure what to do, as I've bricked a previous phone before and this doesn't really seem similar. I'm thinking about leaving the phone on charge, even though the orange LED is off with the hopes that it will charge. Anyone else have similar experience to this?

Yes, by holding down on the volume and the power button right? Almost every option leads back to the phone rebooting.

Sorry about the long response time. Unfortunately now my phone will not turn on with either battery, so I couldn't flash the img. I think it could be possible that my phone is not actually charging the battery and both of them have died. I'm not entirely sure, I'm going to charge it overnight and hope for the best.

I doubt it, my phone will charge off the USB for a minute or so when I plug it in.
When I leave the Nexus 4 on a flat surface with nothing around it, it will randomly turn the screen on, wait the 30 second timer, then turn back off.
I did just install 4.2.2, but I hadn't used it enough before to say if it only started since then.
I'm currently unrooted, though unlocked the bootloader when I first got it so I do plan to root soon, would flashing a custom kernel like franco kernel possibly fix this? Or would this be a problem in the rom or a third party app?
In BetterBatteryStats I saw 2 Kernel Wakelocks that seemed to have a high ammount of wakes.
(Screenshots Attached)
And here's the BetterBatteryStats Dump File: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dbc2vn3littc0fp/BetterBatteryStats-2013-02-21_054751350.txt
Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks.
Possibly a third party app.

It does that with all sorts of different cables and chargers. Think I might have a loose USB port?
Maybe it's linked to the Daydream feature?

Not sure, guess it's possible, but even if it is lose I wouldn't expect it to effect it once it starts unless it gets bumped.
Also, what is the temp of the battery when charging? Not sure if it's true but I've heard that if the battery is over 40c it won't charge properly.
If you want, here's a really nice widget with temp on it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw
I would just be careful with anything to void your warranty until you figure out whats causing the problem, as I've heard a lot of stories about bad batteries, and shorts in usb causing the red light bug (For lack of a better name).

Thanks for the link. I actually looked through the 'must have apps for the N4' thread under themes and apps, and Goku80 had posted a link to a battery meter that I just downloaded and installed moments ago. I have yet to see what the charge temp is, but I will report back tonight. Idle temp is around 25*c from what I've noticed just now.
The only thing I've noticed with temps so far is when I have my phone pulled in and I'm watching something on the phone. The phone gets really hot, and the system starts to lag badly. I would assume this is a fail-safe for the battery to not overheat by downclocking itself, but this is only a theory.
As for the red light bug, I saw my phone drop from 28% to 4% instantly out of nowhere yesterday, with no warnings. I immediately pulled the phone in, and watched the battery meter jump to 30%. According to the red light threads, I think it's a software issue with the phone shutting down completely when it thinks it's out of battery to prevent damage. Hopefully we'll never run into that issue ourselves.
Recently, my S4 has been shutting of randomly. I got a new battery recently since the other one didn't work well, yet my phone is shutting off at around 50% of battery.
It's always around 50%?
Could be you somehow got another bad battery.

Can you turn it back on after it shuts down or it refuses to turn on?
And if it does turn on, how much percentage is left?
I also have this problem! It is shutting down because of the heat, then the percentage floates between 08-20( depends on how much battery i`ve got before)
Same problem

Hello, only two causes for this. Battery not calibrated or battery discharging too fast causing overheat, phone shuts down to prevent damage. If calibration does not work get a new battery.
I had a similar problem, it was the power button that was stuck, it's a bit common problem.

I think its from the overheat problem but how does one calibrates their battery. Thanks
