I apologise if this seems ignorant, but I've searched the omnirom site, and xda without finding any information.
Just wondering if there is official support of 4g/LTE on omnirom for the Xperia z?
I haven't seen it connect once, despite living in an area with good coverage in the past. Is there an option I need to activate?

Not sure... @pulser_g2 might know the state of LTE on the Z.
Unfortunately, my yuga is a C6603 in the USA - so I don't even get reliable HSPA+ on it.
No worries, solved it.
There's a menu in settings> wireless and networks> mobile networks > preferred network type
This defaulted to 3g for me, but LTE is an option.
Seems to work fine.
Maybe a little tip for anyone with a 4g contract, it seems LTE isn't the default setting

Chaps,
My other half uses her O2 xda Exec with a work supplied 3G vodafone SIM. It works fine in the UK and she did a good job getting it set up with the right 3G UK vodafone settings etc- well done her!
Question is...
She's now working in the USA for a few days. The xda has found a network and can use it - great stuff but no 3G....
How can she determine what network its using over there - is this selectable somewhere (I couldn't find the option)?
Based on the network what would the settings be to allow her to use 3G!? Anyone help?
Thanks
USA doesn't have 3G. It's also why the universal isnt popular in USA. I feel sorry for em.

Oh bugger! You mean we're ahead of America on something!?
I can't believe silicon valley doesn't have 3G, I guess they have wireless hotspot all over....
T-Mobile US have mumbled something about enabling UMTS "in 2006" but I rather want to see it than hear about it.
The rest of the US carriers use fancy 1xRTT data protocols over CDMA networks - not compatible with GSM. People in the US still wonder what the "G" stands for ;-)
Blame it on our military. Those bands are owned by the US Gov. Just recently I have heard news of businesses getting access to those bands. And there was much rejoicing...
who ever said the us doesn't have 3G?
i live in houston and when i got the universal i did some reaserch:
i found that verison wireless has 3G on their devices, but they dont use sim cards, so they wont help...
but i now have cingular wireless, and it works great, but it is a bit pricy...
i believe about $45 per month...
so if you were just going to visit the us, then i would sugest to you that you go with t-mobile using the GPRS,
yes i know it is slow, but if you are only going to be using it for a little bit i think it would be fine. I believe the GPRS is $19.99.
so it really depends if you really think you need the 3G service...
if you dont think so then get GPRS, the exec can use it, and its not all that bad
It is true that the US does not have 3G but your Tri-Band GSM device will work perfectly fine. With the proper settings you can even surfe the WEB at 32k just no high speed for things like video calls.
I use my Exec quite often in various places in the US without any problems.
Hey guys. I Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-I317M) and for some reason it fluctuates between HSPA+ and 3G signals rather than LTE. The device is originally locked to Rogers but I unlocked it and am now using it with MTS. I am running on jelly bean 4. 1.2 and CleanRom 4.0.5. Anybody have any ideas as to why I'm not getting LTE?

Are you still getting fast data speeds? All LTE is 3.9 g and hspa is like 3.6 g lol..

Yes I'm getting fast speeds but I can't help but wonder why this is happening. I mentioned that I'm with MTS so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. I live in Canada so it's probably not familiar to you. They just started carrying S3's which are running on their LTE network and they show 4G at the top of them when activated rather than HSPA+.

Nope not familiar with Mts. That's correct.. it all depends on the towers u are near .. if they haven't upgraded there towers sorry your sol lol

It is either the towers or your phone isn't compatible with the bands of LTE (there are multiple bands like there is with UTMS).

I'm pretty sure it isn't the towers cause my friends iPhone 5 is running off LTE and he live about 5 minutes away from my house. I've also been at distances one minute away from his house and did not pick up LTE then either. I don't know much about bands or frequencies but my carrier just launched the Galaxy S3's and they run off LTE and I'm assuming the Note 2 has the same hardware. S3: 700 (Band 17), 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz , Note 2: 700(band 17) 850 AWS 1,900(band 2). I'm clueless as to what those numbers mean but i'm guessing the important thing is Band 17, right?
Try going near his house then. Or have you checked the network settings? You may have to flash something.

I have to no avail. I had a friend try to help me out over the phone with network settings and his phone appears to have a setting that mine does not. When he goes into settings > wireless and network more settings > mobile network there is an option for him to toggle between LTE, HSPA+ etc. My phone doesn't have that for some reason. All that's listed is Mobile data, data roaming, Access point names, and network operators. Nothing to toggle between networks, which is probably what I need to enable LTE. I have no idea why that setting would be absent from my device. My friend was using an S3 on the same operating system as me btw.
From what i can tell it's the frequencies . The frequencies your device have seem to be different than the frequencies the s3 have on your carrier. If it's not that then you can check your apn settings.

What model is your phone, and what model is his phone. You said you brought your phone from a competing carrier who is likely using alternate frequencies that your phone might not be picking up either due to hardware or software limitations. Without knowing the hardware, and where it came from in the first place, we can't figure out what frequencies your phone is looking for and can't answer your question effectively.
download an app that will show you what is the type of connection you are actually on.
I think that maybe its the matter of incorrect icon.
Hi All. Ive looked around but haven't seen a similar issue to mine, but it might not be a "bad" issue..not sure...here goes!
Samsung galaxy s4. Fido (Canada) so equivalent to the AT&T version.
The top of my S4 has what network i am on. Sometimes it says "3g", sometimes "h+" (i am guessing HSPA) and sometimes "4G" (i am guessing LTE but i am not certain)
Never does my phone give me an icon of "LTE", and i am in an LTE zone in Montreal. Ive done multiple speedtests, and when its on "4G" i get good speeds between 20 and 50 mbps down
My question : Is the S4 supposed to say "LTE" and i am not getting it for some reason?
Or
Does "4G" actually mean LTE?
If anyone knows or has experience in this i would really appreciate the help and clarification
ps. I just upgraded to an S4 from my 2009 Iphone 3gs, and im so happy

I just got my s4 today from rogers in Ontario, it does say LTE at the top, hasn't ever dropped to 3g or anything else yet. Make sure you have a LTE micro sim, i had to get a new one as the one in my iphone 4s was not LTE.

You might want to make sure your "APN" is correct for LTE connections in your area. You can use google or the forums search function to learn more about what your APN should be if it isn't already correct.

Ive looked around the forums and i beleive i have the correct APN (Fido LTE). Looking around other settings, under "network mode" the icon i have selected is "LTE/GSM/WCDA (auto connect)"
I guess now i am more at the stage of defining the various icons. Ive found many definitions on XDA but these definitions are all for various roms.
for instance:
Originally Posted by BNaughty http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31827119
AOSP ROMs will always be G, E, 3G, H, H+, 4G
G - GPRS
E - Edge
3G - 3G
H - 3.5G down
H+ - 3.5 G up/down
4G - LTE
in other pages ive seen H+ mean 4g, and LTE meaning LTE.
So a more specific question now.
According to Android 4.2.2 (android 4+ anyways, should be the same) with touchwiz, what do the icons correspond to?
According to the samsung SGH I337M manual:
E refers to connection/communication with the edge network.
3G refers to connection/communication with the UTMS network.
H+ refers to connection/communication with HSPA or HSPA + network.
LTE refers to connection/communication with an 4G LTE network.
Issue is that i get an icon that is not on this list. I get an icon that says simply "4G"
Not sure what this icon refers to..possibly LTE, possibly HSPA+? I called samsung canada, and they dont seem to know either...neither does fido, but im not surprised.
again if anyone knows, i would appreciate it
Hi
The specs here: (sorry not allowed to post links)
en wikipedia org /wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S4
show that the i9506 has no UMTS support, where as the i9505 does.
1) Do we believe those specs to be correct? Going back to the linked reference information in the wiki, and other samsung pages I found it very confusing to work out if it is true?
2) If this is true, will it have any impact for use in the UK or Europe? Is this removing a set of networks the phone could connect to and hence reducing data speeds in certain circumstances?
Thanks very much for your help
Kevin
By UMTS you mean the 3G?
I had an i9506 before and I exchange it for i9505(becauce of flashing ROMs, you know, very limited options for i9506), for the very few day I have had my hands on i9506, it's same as i9505 on the part of network connection.
I am not sure, as my area is full HSDPA and LTE coverage, so didn't know about UMTS.
But, seriously, except some remote area and deep inside of building,so to underground garage or something , most of populated area should have ,at least, the HSDPA coverage.
Well, that's my case (Barcelona, Spain).
But I think it will do it just fine, even, just for our imagination it doesn't support UMTS which I see the possibility is slim to none, it still got EDGE, by my feeling EDGE is match for UMTS

Hi
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I don't know enough, even though I have been reading alot about the different network protocols, to understand what the lack of the word 'UMTS' on the spec sheet really means.
I do find myself in remote areas of the UK at various times and am keen to have the best chance of as good a data connection as possible, hence trying to understand the implications of the lack of UMTS, if it is really a lack in the first place?
Cheers
Kev

My guess is missing type error.
Hell, there is no way for any phone, any phone that supports from all the way from 2G up to 4G without supporting UMTS, I don't think so, and as for it's Qualcomm 800 SoC, as we know Qualcomm is doing good job on radio chips, so my best guess is missing type.
Did you try search related information on Samsung official website?

Hi
I think you're right, I spoke to a mobile networks engineer who confirmed the same thing, if it has 3g with HSPA, it pretty much has to have UMTS.
I have proposed a correction to the wiki.
Thanks very much
Kev
this is going to be an AT&T specific collection thread for this carrier specific stuff like VVM and try to make wifi calling work, also users can ask any questions related to AT&T and I will try to answer them and hopefully other users can help to.
HTC lying about AT&T "compatibility"
U11 does not support VoLTE on AT&T
U11 does not support WiFi-Calling on AT&T
U11 does not support Video Call on AT&T
U11 does not support Integrated Visual Voicemail on messages app like it use to on HTC One M7, M8 & M9, you need the stand alone app which is crap...
the phone works for calls data LTE works MMS haven't test yet I don't use them....
Any comment from AT&T on any of this? We know HTC's saying it works.

Haha, AT&T never comments on these things.. and it won't work.. I have and unlocked GS8 and it don't work there either.. so no way in #[email protected] it will work on HTC..
Argh... This sucks. I'm in an area where coverage quality has dropped significantly, and I spend a lot of time in a building where almost no signal gets through from any provider. Wifi calling and texting has become a lot more important for me for that reason. I can get by without the extra features, but it's tough now what I've had them (currently using an S7 edge and Note 5).I guess that leaves me with no option but Samsung or LG (and all of the provider bloatware).

Don't activate the U11 on AT&T, once their computer "knows" you have an uncertified device you lose LTE data and are forced onto HSPA+!
Does anyone know an APN setting that will reactivate LTE?

Not a fair critisim for HTC. Even if the phone is capable like my non-AT&T S8, if the phone does not have the AT&T logo on it they will not allow these features. So complain about AT&T like I do.

See if you still have LTE during a call. The LTE icon should go away and if you go into about phone and then network, it'll most likely say HSPA. The problem is we're not getting services like VoLTE and wifi calling. In normal cases, HSPA speeds should be manageable considering the average phone call won't be very long and there's wifi nearly everywhere now. This is just bad for those in areas with poor reception. I've been doing ok with the whole issue since I never really noticed much of a difference with HD voice and I'm usually always somewhere with wifi.
My question is what did they do differently with the U11 than the 10. We never had any of these issues with the 10 being unlocked and not certified and all that bs

The importance for me & probably for many others on getting VoLTE is that I do technical support on my phone and trouble shooting while on a call takes to much time most of the time, that being said if I don't have the option to make phone calls on VoLTE means internet speeds while on a call is crap.... I really don't care about HD call clarity as far as I can here the other person, but the internet speed while on a call it is important to me the faster I can browse the faster I can provide technical support

Having a weird issue with my U11 on AT&T. I randomly lose all signal for no reason then takes a good 30 seconds for it to connect again.
It has happened at least a couple times a week mid phone call which is really obnoxious. I have seen it happen a few times when I am just browsing through my phone not on a call so I know its not just a calling issue, and I am sure it has happened multiple times when I am not looking at my phone at all and I don't notice.
Anyone else had this issue? An issue with AT&T and can be fixed by a firmware update? Or am I alone and need to RMA?
I know this thread is old, but can't we use the ATT RUU if you do what you need to do? We used to be able to go back and forth, at least that's what I did with both my M7 and M8. If you really need those features, that's what I would do.
