this is going to be an AT&T specific collection thread for this carrier specific stuff like VVM and try to make wifi calling work, also users can ask any questions related to AT&T and I will try to answer them and hopefully other users can help to.
HTC lying about AT&T "compatibility"
U11 does not support VoLTE on AT&T
U11 does not support WiFi-Calling on AT&T
U11 does not support Video Call on AT&T
U11 does not support Integrated Visual Voicemail on messages app like it use to on HTC One M7, M8 & M9, you need the stand alone app which is crap...
the phone works for calls data LTE works MMS haven't test yet I don't use them....
Any comment from AT&T on any of this? We know HTC's saying it works.

Haha, AT&T never comments on these things.. and it won't work.. I have and unlocked GS8 and it don't work there either.. so no way in #[email protected] it will work on HTC..
Argh... This sucks. I'm in an area where coverage quality has dropped significantly, and I spend a lot of time in a building where almost no signal gets through from any provider. Wifi calling and texting has become a lot more important for me for that reason. I can get by without the extra features, but it's tough now what I've had them (currently using an S7 edge and Note 5).I guess that leaves me with no option but Samsung or LG (and all of the provider bloatware).

Don't activate the U11 on AT&T, once their computer "knows" you have an uncertified device you lose LTE data and are forced onto HSPA+!
Does anyone know an APN setting that will reactivate LTE?

Not a fair critisim for HTC. Even if the phone is capable like my non-AT&T S8, if the phone does not have the AT&T logo on it they will not allow these features. So complain about AT&T like I do.

See if you still have LTE during a call. The LTE icon should go away and if you go into about phone and then network, it'll most likely say HSPA. The problem is we're not getting services like VoLTE and wifi calling. In normal cases, HSPA speeds should be manageable considering the average phone call won't be very long and there's wifi nearly everywhere now. This is just bad for those in areas with poor reception. I've been doing ok with the whole issue since I never really noticed much of a difference with HD voice and I'm usually always somewhere with wifi.
My question is what did they do differently with the U11 than the 10. We never had any of these issues with the 10 being unlocked and not certified and all that bs

The importance for me & probably for many others on getting VoLTE is that I do technical support on my phone and trouble shooting while on a call takes to much time most of the time, that being said if I don't have the option to make phone calls on VoLTE means internet speeds while on a call is crap.... I really don't care about HD call clarity as far as I can here the other person, but the internet speed while on a call it is important to me the faster I can browse the faster I can provide technical support

Having a weird issue with my U11 on AT&T. I randomly lose all signal for no reason then takes a good 30 seconds for it to connect again.
It has happened at least a couple times a week mid phone call which is really obnoxious. I have seen it happen a few times when I am just browsing through my phone not on a call so I know its not just a calling issue, and I am sure it has happened multiple times when I am not looking at my phone at all and I don't notice.
Anyone else had this issue? An issue with AT&T and can be fixed by a firmware update? Or am I alone and need to RMA?
I know this thread is old, but can't we use the ATT RUU if you do what you need to do? We used to be able to go back and forth, at least that's what I did with both my M7 and M8. If you really need those features, that's what I would do.

Long time AT&T customer probably switching to Sprint, been eyeing the Epic..
If I get a voice call, is it possible (if I'm using a BT headset or speakerphone) to fire up a web browser on it and use that while I'm in-call? To look things up, or whatever?
If it can't do that, are there any other Sprint phones that can (EVO, for example?)
Thanks!
if i remember right, you can use data and voice only when you are connected onto 4G and WIFI, but not 3G. i have not tested this out yet to confirm but i remember reading that somewhere if i read it right. i also came from att (iphone) and being able to use data (3G) and voice at the same time was a major plus. ill have to try it out though later on my epic.
Yes u can use data while on a call only if you are on WiFi or 4g. Tested and verified.

Some might say it is a "limitation", however is it the reason why cdma networks do not suffer from dropped calls like gsm networks do.
For more information, you can check out this rather lengthy post about why cdma is better than gsm.
yeah, i experience the same thing. it's becoming pretty much a deal breaker for me, as often i am on the phone for an hour or more and am trying to look things up at the same time. no joy. plus the abysmal battery life has me glad that i am still in the 30 day window ?; i like the phone a lot otherwise. wish i could get it for ATT. i have never had problems with their service, and would love to be able to talk and surf at the same time.

It's VoLTE. Or, simultaneous Voice and Data as was missing from the device at launch with the promise to be fixed with an update by the end of the year.
I'm curious, though, if it counts towards your data allowance to use VoLTE. Does anyone know?

Voice no, video yes.
It's disappointing that the update is (apparently) only/mainly VoLTE, and not Android 5.0. Since carrier certification is a relatively slow, painful process, I think this is a sign that the Lollipop update is more than a couple months away.
I was initially excited about VoLTE, but I wasn't impressed with it when I used it briefly on my Droid Maxx. First, it wasn't reliable- I had dropped calls, and calls that never even rang my phone. Second, it killed my battery. It was rough- really rough- on it. I think both are related to the relatively weak LTE signal I have at home. To deal with the signal problems I have a Verizon network extender, but it looked like my phone was preferring the weak LTE signal over the strong signal from the network extender.
I wish Verizon would have just sucked it up and supported Wifi calling with Advanced Calling 1.0. I don't understand why they dislike Wifi calling so much. They're going to eventually support it, but the company's statements suggest they aren't happy about it. Who knows how much support there will be for it, though. Verizon apparently plans to release a LTE network extender at some point, which is only useful in certain niche situations if Wifi calling is broadly supported on VZW devices.

Wifi calling is for carriers that need someone else's network to supplement their own shortcomings.
That is why they don't implement it.

So is it just a messaging problem? Verizon doesn't want to support wifi calling because it's an implicit admission that they don't have great coverage everywhere?
Generally, I agree VZW coverage is pretty good. But, it's not great at my house, and its terrible at my workplace. VZW already implicitly acknowledges that they don't have great coverage everywhere by selling network extenders. They're continuing that by coming out with LTE network extenders (someday).
It just seems like its a cheaper, better option to support wifi calling, rather than forcing people (with coverage problems) to shell out $200-300 for a network extender.

I still think every carrier should support this. I'm in IT, and constantly find myself in data centers, or even meeting rooms deep into a building that you couldn't even make an E-911 call from... It really wouldn't be that difficult. When TMob had UMA back in '08 and I had a BB, I used it extensively. It was never because TMobile didn't have enough coverage.. Carriers basically make money when you use their network. Yes, most people have unlimited plans these days, but they build their network around the use it has. So why wouldn't they want you to be using your phone, minutes, texts, etc? On the other hand, why wouldn't they want to offload congestion to networks they don't have to maintain or pay for? There just aren't any down sides to have WiFi calling/text/mms.

That's what I was afraid of. Did the full factory reset and still same issue! I'm hold with Google right now with google. I know they don't do exchanges which is ridiculous! Been on hold for 15 mins. Do you mean "4g" or LTE because 4g will display as H on this phone?
When I went to AT&T they had to tweak my settings so my apn is set to ATT phone not ATT WAP and I get lte now. You might have to go into a store and have them tweak it for you. At first it shows H but it switches over to lte. I hope this helps you some.

Huh I was told by Google that H stood for 3g (HSPA). I do not get LTE at my house but full bars of 4g service. Also the speed feels like 3g about as fast as my rather sluggish wifi. My 6p specifically says 3g, H and lte I was recently on the Moto x pure that had the same settings. Haven't seen the h+ logo in a long time.
it's probably just a provisioning issue if it's not APN related like others have stated.

H displayed for hspa+
I am sure you must have figured it out by now but just throwing it out there in case it helps.
If you simply took out your SIM card from old phone and put it in N6P (not that there is anything is wrong with that) take your phone and SIM card to AT&T ask them to add your phone (IMEI) and activate LTE on this IMEI. Unless something is wrong with your phone hardware wise, this should do it. Try it, you might get lucky and don't have to send your phone back.
I have the same issue and I've tried A few different APN's. Still on H no matter what APN I use. However, what could be wrong is that when I got my 6P I took my SIM card out of my Note 3, had an AT&T store cut it to Nano size so it would fit the 6P ( They were out of SIM cards that day) and went on my way. I later noticed that I only get H anywhere I go. Called AT&T and they said that the IMEI was updated on my account but the SIM card might be damaged from the store cutting it and to go get a new Nano SIM card. (Free at official AT&T stores) So I'm off to try that and I'll report back and see if that solves the issue. I'm rooted on PureNexus ROM and ElementalX Kernel as well.
Sounds like you are used to the way carrier phones display hspa as 4g and LTE as 4g LTE. This all started when the iPhone came out and on att and 3g was listed as 4g. And LTE as LTE. There is nothing wrong with your phone. Its being reported right by android. You are getting yourself worked up over just the way it's displayed. Let me ask you this, what phone are you coming from?

Well that would be cool if that's all it is! I'm coming from the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
I promise you that is all this is. I came from an ATT branded note 3 as well. Think about it, your old note never said 3g, because your 3g would show as 4G and when you had LTE it would say 4gLTE. You guys are getting the same exact connection as you used to. Its just the way its displayed to you.

Oh Ok. So if 4g is shown as H then what does 4G LTE show as? H+? Is there a way to change it with PureNexus Rom, ElementalX Kernel , or Exposed Modules to what I'm use to seeing? Old habits die hard.
I have looked thru thread after thread for days and cannot seem to enable WiFi calling on my OnePlus 5 on the AT&T network, Does anyone have a clue?
I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile when I got my OnePlus, so I can't say for sure, but I believe AT&T limits WiFi-Calling to certain devices, and even then, only the AT&T variants of those. (Mostly newer and from big name brands e.g. Apple, Samsung, HTC, LG). Since to my knowledge even an unlocked Galaxy s8 won't have WiFi calling on AT&T, it is unlikely that any OnePlus device will ever have that ability.

Yeah, or any of their mvno's!
I was with family today in Anaheim, a highly populated, very modern city I mean Disneyland is there.
My dad has AT&T, I have mint sim (a t mobile mvno) I had near 70-80db signal, he was bouncing between 120 and up.. Had no signal whatsoever for extended periods of time. And with their low band frequency purchase, it's only getting better. It's anecdotal evidence, but still..
While I don't think t mobile offers the best network, I strongly feel they are going to get there in a couple years should they keep this up..

I'm wondering about WiFi texting can the oneplus 5 do it? Also I noticed when in connected to WiFi I can't send any texts.
Att does not allow the 1+5, albeight the technology is there, to do VoWifi or VoLte. They reserve those features for devices solely purchased from Att, ie Only branded devices. If the Le eco does work it out of the box, that's awesome. Don't tell Att that, lol. I got into a huge argument with Att NatCs and filed troubleshooting tickets only to be told, sorry, since it wasn't purchased directly, no work. I have since made the move to TMobile. Im in NJ as a reference. And to be honest, I find the voice quality vastly better to what I had with Att, with hd voice too. I've hit some spots with little to no coverage, usually at a friend's house but my VoWifi kicks in and I have service once again with no issues.

Interesting app. But I'm not sure it works.
I install it, on my un-rooted OnePlus 5, then run it - hey! there's a convincing looking setting, for wifi - and so I activate it. But everytime I return to the app, the setting is 'off' again. Does that mean the setting doesn't 'stick' and my phone (running on AT&T) cannot actually use wifi?
Plus, it looks to me as though the app has to remain running (although there's a setting to not display the notification icon, it doesn't seem to 'stick' either).
Ultimately, I cannot seem to get my phone to actually make a wifi call. For this reason, I'm skeptical this app is able to enable wifi calling, on the AT&T network.
I just called ATT.
I want to upgrade to the 5 and i need it to call over wifi as most of the time i'm in a rural situation with no coverage.
The ATT tech support said there would be no problem.
I hate to say it, but they lied (unless there's been a drastic change as-of-late).
Even if you can get them to provision your 5T, it'll only "stick" for a minute or so, and then revert.
AT&T is somewhat "famous" for their lack of BYOD (non-branded) WiFi call/text support. The exception is iOS devices, and a couple of "certified" Android phones; I think the HTC 10 (or maybe it was the 9) was an example, you can probably count these on one hand.
I call At&T today. No changes so far.
AT&T has an issue like this forever, as they do not wish to give that option to all. That is like a drop in profits, and drop in latency and lags. Anyways, too long to explain, but the gist is, they will have loss if they allow full coverage (at least loss on journal entries)..

i have the exect same issue with s10e..i thought it was only s10e because its a cheaper model..what do we do..plus also my wifi is pritty bad..only on this device
My wifi works fine but I have very limited if any data signal and I can hardly send or receive text messages....
No one has a fix?
I called the sprint store and the guy said lots of these new S10 series phones have connectivity issues.
He said their tech has a fix for it but it may not be effective. He said Samsung needs to release an update to fix it.
I've got the S10+

Switch to verizon, att, or cricket. Sprint is bottom of barrel of carriers sadly. I learned that the hard way back when carriers has 2 year contracts.

I used to believe in this statement.. But when I walk around with a phone from Verizon (business), Srint (Personal) and AT&T hotspot service, I realized this is very not true.
There are locations where each carrier is stronger than others. At one of my job site, Verizon and AT&T fail to connect at all constant roaming and drop calls while Sprint skips along like no body cares.
Point, additionally, as each carrier acquire and deploy new bands, they need to be built out so the newer devices that support the bands can utlize it relieving the crowded older bands.
HOWEVER, this stupid phone, with SignalCheck Pro installed, I can see the bands I'm on but the signal stregnth is horrible, like at the moment, i'm connected to band 41 but LTE is at -117dBm, that's almost like not having signal at all. Likewise when I'm connected to band 25 and 26.
I tried disabling all those bands and force it onto the lower frequency with hardly any success.

Can you disable or remove that signal check program? Not all sognal check programs are legit.
What country are you in?
That may be part of the problem.
I agree, carriers do have their own pros and cons.

I'm in the US
and yes the program can be uninstalled, but it was only installed because I need to troubleshoot this issue, so it's not the program that's causing the problem. It's just telling me what band I'm on and the signal.

Anyone else on Sprint with the S10?
Note 8, and S8+ works fine. My S10+ is getting 1x and when I'm on the road, it would come in and out all day long. Without WiFi the phone is almost useless.

It's not just you. There are multiple threads on Sprint's forums with users complaining. My phone constantly roams, the WiFi calling keeps timing out on location and though it says LTE most of the time data doesn't work. Lucky for me I keep a spare phone so I'll be switching back to my iPhone X until they resolve this but there's been no official word on any of this getting resolved so I'm not expecting a solution any time soon. I'm wondering if it was the update I installed that caused this because it seemed like day 1 the phone was ok. Maybe a solution is to use Odin and flash back to the original stock.

They had me reset network settings which I did and it didn't help. They're sending me a replacement phone... Once I get it I'll prevent the Samsung update and see if that helps. Idk I really wanted to like this phone.

I have the sprint version purchased from S
Spent an hour with samsung to no resolution. Took my verizon sim and dropped it on the S10 and the phone was getting good signal and speed then dropped for a couple minutes then back to good speeds. But as it's doing this, the phone started to get very warm. Sprint tech support doesn't know crap, just make me repeat their written process multiple times and the guys at the sprint stores are just salesman.
Since the verizon seems shows intermitten connections as well, i'm going to see if samsung can send me a replacement.
