So tonight the plastic bezel between the glass and the aluminum bezel broke.
I called asus support and was told since it was cosmetic damage that the repair might have to be paid for by me.
Of course the only way to find out if the repair is covered or not is to mail it in and have them look at it.
I'm honestly a little disappointed, while it might be cosmetic the damage isn't from use, it's from poor materials and/or workmanship.

Sad day
edit: this comes about a week after this happened to my power cord
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/766532/IMG_0004.JPG
that happened when the cord was unplugged from the transformer and slid off the desk. It bounced off the surge protector.
You dropped and broke it and want them to pay for it? You can't be serious.....

Are we reading the same thread? I don't think we are. I'm not sure where I said I dropped it and wanted them to repair it.....
Ehhh.. i have a very similar crack to that on mine also and with 2 more splits on each side. but to be honest that was all my fault
dunno how you can blame that to poor manufacturing , only way to do that is to drop it
The tablet has never been dropped. I'm not sure what happened. I was wiping the screen down when it snagged on the corner. I pulled the cloth away and that little bit of plastic bounced on the floor.
It really doesn't bother me but I'm worried junk will get in there.
My charger cable has that exact same piece broken off of it. (or close to it)

i have the same broken piece here, and i had another cable with the same broken piece, poor plastic
Use some silicone to fill in the hole?
My bezel broke there too. Right in the corner. It hasn't been dropped or mistreated, it's been treated like a ****ing princess
wow i just looked at mine and its broke in the same place...damn it y did you have to bring it too my attention

Hot glue is your friend.
Yup. My bezel is broken in the same place, and my charger has exactly the same chip in it.
Not even bothered with Asus support. Not mailing something in at my expense to be told they won't do anything.
Thanks for the info, Im going to be more careful wen cleaning around that area.
My cable is chipped the same way. It happened on it's own, without my input. Fortunately the cable works fine. Build quality is on par with cheap Chinese e-readers (I had the same problems with one). That makes you think do you really need to pay more for sth from Asus.
Son of a Beach... I just looked at mine and its cracked at the same spot.
And I can tell you with 100% certainty mine has never been dropped. I treat my TF like a $600 an hour escort and tuck it in to bed each night with a gentle kiss.
Curious as to why this would happen in the same spot.
I had a few cosmetic problems and they fixed it all for me. But this might be because they damaged a part of my transformer when i sent it in for repair on account of a dead battery.
On a side note, the manufacturing quality is definitely not high. Me and my 2 brothers each bought a transformer and all of them, the back cover is loose on the sides. The power/volume buttons are also not flush.
What the crap? same crack in the USB cord, widespread problem?
Looks like there may be some enviromental stresses involved. Perhaps the bezel seal cracks and breaks from changes in heat (Outside on a cold or hot day, humidity etc). My cable is not cracked yet (touches wood).
I'm going to guess the culprit is people either dropping their tablet and not admitting it, or letting it bounce around inside a bag without adequate padding and protection.

I misread OP, sorry about that.
So I set my phone on the table, tried to pour myself a glass of water and spilled some water inside the phone. I tried testing the phone out and everything worked fine...except for the earpiece (where the water entered), I couldn't hear the person on the other end. So I immediately turned it off after (should've done it at the very beginning I know), blow dried it with hot air with the phone facing downwards until it got hot. Then I put it in a bag of rice overnight, just for safe measure and when I turned it on the next day I could hear the other side again, but the problem this time is the proximity sensor, which isn't detecting me.
Now I'm not able to use the keypad or go to speaker. My question is, is it easy to fix a proximity sensor without replacing it? I'm debating on whether I should sell it on eBay now, I think I would still get back the money I paid for it and maybe even a bit more.
How do you think you going to sell a faulty phone and get your money back at the same time?
Should've taken it apart and put the pieces in rice, not just the whole phone. Don't know if that could still fix the situation (since you already turned it back on), but you could always try that now.

Well, everything works except for the proximity sensor. Seems like everyone is buying Nexus 4's on eBay for $150-400 more than the asking price, I don't think I'm over-assuming that I might get most, if not all, of my money back if I were to sell it.

it's just disingenuous, hence you could look like kind of a **** for mentioning the possibility.
If you mention clearly that the phone is faulty on ebay, I would not say anything about it. However, if you hide this information and try to sell the phone as a 100% working, I'm wondering if this can be called fraud/misleading.

My bad, but I would have definitely mentioned about it in the description if I were to sell it. I don't plan on deceiving anyone about any defects the phone might have.
I just looked into the issue about proximity sensors some more. Turns out it was my crap screen protector (Xtremeguard) that caused the issue, I took it off and voila, it detected me again. Guess I don't have to sell it afterall!

So I was doing laundry and thought I had everything off the bed. I gathered up my Nexus 4 with my sheets and didn't realize it was in the washer until it had been submerged for several minutes. I dried it off and have had it under a fan for a couple days. I am going to put it in rice for a couple more.
Should I take it apart and put it in the rice?
Update: I have a little precision screw driver set but even the really small ones don't seem to fit the Nexus 4 screws. I guess I will just have to put the whole phone in the rice.
Do you really think someone is going to pay you full price or more if you mentioned you spilled water on it and the sensor does not work????? This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Just sell it for parts - NOT FULLY WORKING on ebay, don't be misleading because it will just get you negative feedback and everyone will think you are a scammer, meanwhile paypal will get the buyers money back 100%..
Be stand-up and fully explain all the problems with a good description. You'll be surprised how much you can get for a cutting edge broken/not fully working smartphone.. Look at all the broken iPhone 5's for sale and how much people are getting for them at no-reserve auctions.. its pretty nuts.

Hi all,
my nex4 had a little bit of sand and water go into it, which rendered it useless.
Now it will not even turn on.
i have had the I.C circuitry cleaned off sand and also blown dry, still no luck. It will NOT turn on
I spoke to Google saying the phone wont turn on, they have agreed to give replacement.
Will there be any problems when i send back the old phone?
PS: i no its my mistake that i should not have let it come in contact with water, but hey it deftly was not much.
My galaxy S and S2 have taken abuse, but still function. This is definitely my mistake, tho.

So ive had my Nexus 4 for about 2 weeks now and i love this phone! i recently went to Dallas with my Mom and Sister over the weekend. Upon getting to the hotel, my Nexus decides to slip out of my hand onto the concrete. When i picked it up, it had a crack on the top right corner of its face. No big deal, right? Wrong! The top half of the screen is completely unresponsive. Good thing i brought my Galaxy Nexus to hold me off through the trip. Once i settled in at the hotel, I whipped out my laptop and bought a replacement screen. I ordered from this site... http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-lg-...-assembly-with-front-housing-and-battery.html

Judging from ifixit, it's going to be pretty hard to replace the screen. Would you mind keeping us updated on your progress here? I'm curious to see how hard it's going to be.
The glass is fused to both the display and the display frame. So don't crack the glass unless you're good with a heat gun, or you're fond of replacing the glass, display, and frame together ($$$).

i think he ordered the whole glass/screen/digitizer fused together thing, which shouldnt be as hard to replace ( i hope). Anyways, please do keep us updated.
Yeah, i ordered the entire front housing, (battery, display, digitizer, and frame) for a total of $186.72... I already have my Nexus 4 disassembled. I'm just waiting for the screen which should get here Wednesday. And yes, I will update this post as i replace the screen.

you can get just the lcd and digitizer for 160 too, might be worth it if you dont have to ship it to LG or if it's an easy diy. There's even a b-stock lcd and digitizer for 140, the lightbleed special?
When you sent the phone to LG was it overseas or in the US? Also whats the website? thanks

i recently cracked my front display, but it still works fine. i'm looking into replacement options and i don't believe the suggested link you posted is a good choice, because the front panel + digitizer + lcd are all fuzed together and i don't have a heat gun...

this option is probably best at 120... but then i just read this on ifixit:

so... looks like the 160 pre shipping/taxes is the best choice

I'm really worried..
Hi,
I'm sorry to dig out the old thread, but i'm trying to fix my N4 of similar problem but i have a question:
Is there a way to separate the LCD from the digitizer? This way i can keep the LCD and get only the digitizer to save cost as my LCD is still working perfectly. In ebay, an OEM Digitizer+LCD assembly cost USD100+ (http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-Touch-D...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3cd597ce9d) but the standalone digitizer only cost about half of it (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-TOUCH-S...er_Cell_Phone_Accessories&hash=item43bf9536ff).
All the instruction that i can find so far on the internet involve replacing the entire assembly.
Battery bending under removal
I'm also sorry to have to reply to an old thread, but I am in urgent need of an answer.
I recently cracked my phone's screen. I ordered a screen+frame repair kit, and got repairing. However, when removing the battery, When prying it from the phone, I realized that the battery was soft, and my tool I was using to pry it off was actually bending it. The battery seems to be curved overall, and slightly pushed on some edges. Also, a weird "sweet" smell came from the phone. Perhaps the smell is the adhesive that sticks the battery to the phone; I do not know.
Will it be safe to use the same battery again? Or should I go ahead and purchase a new one?
Wouldn't a hair dryer work as an alternative heat gun

I wouldn't recommend doing so as a LCD+digitizer assembly cists around $60USD I did not think its worth seperating them but you can use a hairdryer to soften the adhesive

I had glass and digitizer replaced on my S4 couple of months ago, now a part of the left side started to pop off at the edge, you can hear some kind of a clicking sound if you press on it, seems like the glue, or whatever is there, dosen't hold it properly anymore, how do I fix that? thanks in anvance
Was it a 3rd party that repaired your phone? If you broke the glass, they most likely just replaced the glass on the device and reused the adhesive on the phone. Best thing to do is going back to the place you got it repaired and have them redo it. Or if you want to repair it yourself, get some phone double sided tape (google that) and replace the existing adhesive. Good luck.
As stated above probably just used whatever residue glue was left which sometimes works okay. The REAL FIX would have been to have the glass adhered to the digitizer with LOCA (Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive) which would have made it just like fresh from the factory.

Totally forgot about LOCA. OP, you can order small amounts on LOCA on Amazon (around $12?? Forgot) and you can find a lot of tutorials on YouTube. Make sure you don't apply too much and take your time (seriously). Plus you'll need a UV lamp.. or the Sun?
they didn't replace just a glass, they replaced digitizer too
How does the screen look when your out in the sun? Is it hard to see in direct sunlight? If it is then they probably only replaced the outer glass.
If they replaced both like they told you it would almost be impossible for the outer glass to separate from the digitizer. I would take it back to them to have them fix it correctly then. Good luck to you and I hope you get it fixed.

Try just replaced the glass. It's impossible to replace the digitizer because it's part of the AMOLED itself. As stated above, go back to the 3rd party and have them replace the adhesive, and please make sure they don't fix the problem by using superglue.
So ok, here is what happend
I went to that chinese cellphone store realizing that I can't even prove that I fixed the phone there, paid cash and lost receipt) What the guy said that this popping glass is not fixable cause the phone was bent and got deformed that's why the glass pops off, the only thing he can do is replace the whole thing again and he obviously have to charge me again.
I went to another store at the same chinese mall, they said they can replace the whole thing for $160, ok I let them do it, but the glass and screen the installed was 100% fake, color in not black, some kind of bluish and samsung logo had no black edging, I told them that I'm not gonna fu..ng pay for it and they put my old glass back)
Finally I went to authorized samsung service and got it replaced with the 100% original one with 1 year warranty for $300
And yes, I don't even know what he did with the phone first time, phone got bent in my pocket, glass cracked, screen wouldn't turn on and didn't react on any touches, first thing I went to Best Buy Mobile where I got the phone, they're said that I have to replace the whole thing because digitizer gone too, so as couple of my friends and that chinese "specialist" told me. Can you tell what was really wrong with the phone?
Not sure what WENT WRONG but IF they replaced the digitizer and glass. Then in actuality they would have had to replace the digitizer/frame/glass as a while package. The digitizer is connected to the frame/sub frame. The outer glass is connected to the digitizer with local adhesive. So it all one unit. So IF it was bent that SHOULD HAVE been corrected when the replaced the WHOLE piece as one. I just had to do that for my SGS3 and it is simple as can be.

The problem is we don't know what the 3rd party did exactly. I've worked in the Smartphone repair industry for about a year and from experience and stories told by others that came into the store, a lot of stores that repair your phone abuse it and don't give a living sh*t about it. The first chinese store you went to probably made an excuse telling you why the screen was lifting etc, or maybe your device was actually "deformed".
The best thing to do in the first place was going to an authorized Samsung repair to get your screen fixed. Or doing it yourself so you can blame everything on.. yourself if you messed up :] (jk)
"Can you tell what was really wrong with the phone?"
There is no way in telling what actually happened with the phone. Maybe the phone was actually bent slightly causing the glass panel to lift from the frame. Maybe the 3rd party didn't use the correct adhesive causing the glass panel to lift. Or they just seriously messed up and tried covering their tracks. Either way, glad you were able to get your phone repaired by Samsung. :]

So I've had my S5 for over 2 months. I'm always very careful with my stuff. I had the original cover on the phone and once a week I would run it under cold water to wash off any grime or dirt. Everything would be fine.
Now I got the wireless charging cover and I did the same routine. I made 1000% sure it was sealed completely. Now I start to experience slow down and freezing. So much so I have to remove the battery to restart. So I take off the cover and I see water on the battery. Not a lot but this is supposed to be wster resistant. I also notice some water where the cover snaps on to the phone. I dry it all off..I also called Verizon who said I'd have to go to the store to check for water damage which I say to myself Huh? But it's water resistant. Anyways I go to the store and they see nothing wrong with it. They said I can get a like new replacement but I feel that unfair since I spent my money and its not even 3 months old.
I noticed when I got home that by the speaker win the wireless cover it's not flush against he phone. The snaps are all in place but still there's a considerable gap between the cover and phone. Then I took the cover off and put the regular cover back on and there was no gap. It's flush against. Now is it possible hbis is a defect?
And should I accept the replacement device? Right now he phone is Ok but I'm worried no one wants a damaged phone.
Also my boot screen says custom even though I haven't rooted. I even used a root checker to make sure. Only thing I did was turn off some apps and install nova.
Weird? Advice?

Weird? Advice?

Well, first of all. The extended battery and cover for it were said a lonnnng time ago to not be water tight. So that's probably part of your problem.
Secondly, I would recommend using Computer screen cleaning wipes, or a microfiber cloth and a little bit of windex or other non-harmful glass cleaner to clean it instead of running cold water over it..
The more you can control what is cleaning it, the better off you are. A little more than A LOT.

I'm running the stock battery and the wireless cover. I've read a lot of places it keeps the wireless seal. In fact the Samsung site States the same.

My apologies, it is still early.
I have still read on these forums that despite the claim by Samsung that it will hold the seal, users were saying it doesn't. Perhaps do a search for it and see what they say?

if you are using an official samsung accessory, you can send it back to samsung for repair. they will replace damaged parts with new ones. or you can go to verizon and get the like new one. either way, i wouldn't hold on to it if it has water damage and is acting flakey. it will never be right and by the time you get fed up with it you are out of warranty. replace it. and really, if verizon gives you a phone that is in as good a shape as the one you have, and works perfectly, who cares if someone else tried it and didn't like it and returned it.

I spoke to Samsung and they basically said I got a defective cover which honestly is BS. They said they can repair the phone but I wouldn't have access to a replacement and they don't provide replacements. Honestly I've always liked Samsung but now I'm thinking should I just take the replacement, sell it and get the LG G3 or something.

At least samsung is willing to repair the phone. They could have just said it was your fault for not installing the cover correctly. I sent them a 16gb S3 a while back that I bricked. They fixed it and sent it back to me as a 32gb model. Did right by me. You aren't going to be any worse for taking the replacement verizon will give you. It will still have the same warranty plus it has the benefit of additional QA testing from factory.
