USB Tethering - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I am trying to use the native USB tethering and it is not working. I have no internet access.
settings > more networks > tethering usb tethering
If I use a program like pdanet/foxfi it will work but I get the constant disconnects since I am on the free version.
Is there a way to get the native usb tethering to work?
Don't know if this is rumor or what but I have been told that Sprint has disabled the native usb tether. I hope this is not the case.
Thanks all

Well you have to pay for the service through sprint if you are trying to use the USB native tethering.

Unless you are running a ROM that has a modified hotspot.

Crawrj's hotspot mod will allow the USB tethering to work. I use it very often. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256950

Does you're wifi tethering work? I can't get it to work.
It's installed, it's sending a signal, but I can't pick up the signal on any of my computers, phones, or tablets.
I'm using wireless tether 2.0.8.
Don't install another app (wireless tether).
Use the program that comes stock on your phone. You can find it under settings > wireless and network > tethering and portable hotspot > portable wi-fi hotspot settings.

Thanks. I guess I'll stick with this one.
I guess there is no point for anyone to write a kernel for this app to allow netfilter-enable, especially since the stock one actually shows up as a wifi signal as opposed to ad-hoc.

[Q] Tethering without root or tethering plan?

I have the nexus S. Does anyone know how to tether when you don't have the tethering plan? I've been looking everywhere.
thanks guys!
NS4g tethers out of the box. I would assume the reg NS would too.
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & portable hotspot > Check the box to turn it on.
well the thing is my carrier blocks it as they want you to pay 10 bucks a month for the tethering. But there's gotta be a way to allow tethering so that the carrier doesnt know.
there are programs on the market you can download. Easytether i believe... there's a free version but it doesn't work with any secure sites, so forget fb if you use the free one. i think they want 10 bucks for the unrestricted app.
But yes there are options
still doesnt work. there needs to be some settings changed so that I can tether

There are a hundred posts on here about it... but yours is the first I've seen of a carrier blocking it. Which carrier? I find it hard to believe, no offense.
Just as an aside, how do you actually surf the internet after enabling tethering in the phone settings? Just connect the phone to the computer via usb?

Connect the phone via the USB card and put the phone in tether mode.. (Settings/Wireless and Networks/Tethering .../ USB Tethering) The option isn't available until the phone is connected.
The phone will be recognized as a network device and may require network device discovery. It depends on your system and what you have had previously installed. I use tethering from time to time and have never needed to pay extra for it.
Hope this helps..

Wifi Tethering on Tmobile

So, I rooted the phone and have tried open garden wifi tether and wifi tether for root users and one just gives me an error that tethering cannot be started and the other doesn't broadcast the network. I am reading that tmobile is blocking third party tethering, but I thought rooting would allow me to bypass that. Any solutions to this problem? Should I just download a custom ROM because it seems people are getting to work on non stock ROMs.
What phone is it?

I think they finally blocked it you might need to run a custom ROM for it to work. :/

Rooting? Its a Nexus 4 right? I just used the built-in wireless tethering, its not a carrier phone so there is no "blocking" on the software.
If T-Mobile were to block it they would be blocking it from the data side, by blocking the UAString or looking for packets with an extra node. But to my knowledge they arent, I used the built in Android tethering option when I was on T-Mobile without issues (no root and no 3rd party stuff).
You have to have a ssh server
Then download the SSHtunnel app then use WiFi tether

I am stock un-rooted and the built in tethering works just fine. If you are on a data plan the does not allow tethering, the may catch you based on your browsers "User Agent" and redirect your browser to an up sell page.

Nexus 6p Tethering - Cisco Any Connect from Laptop not connecting to Hotspot?

I have no issues wireless tethering my Nexus 6P and getting my tablet to connect to the portable hotspot. However when I try tk connect my laptop to the wireless hotspot , my laptop connects, but since it requires Cisco AnyConnect VPN to be used as well, that portion always seems to fail.
I have Verizon and never had this issue on any of my previous phones, and am wondering if it's something to do with Marshmallow. I tried to go to developer options and select 'Use Legacy DHCP client", but that doesn't seem to work.
I was wondering does anyone have any thoughts on what to try with this or maybe someone out there was able to get it working?
Thanks in advance!

Are you saying your phone or laptop requires Cisco AnyConnect to be used? I guess the first question is why do you need to use this, and can you try it without using the VPN?

It is my work laptop and the way it seems that it is setup, it is required to connect. I tried to skip the VPN and while it says it's connected on not able to pull up any sites. My personal laptop (without vpn) seems to work fine.

Did you try using the USB tethering option to see if that works?

Try to connect and look in the logs. Might give you some more info as to what is happening.

Having same issue (except VPN is NetMotion)
I'm also on verizon. It worked just fine until I got an upgraded work laptop (HP EliteBook). That PC can connect to (it seems) any wifi *but* my N6P hotspot (and likewise, my personal laptop can connect to N6P wifi hotspot no problem). USB tether does work, but I really need hands-free (am often wanting to use laptop on the bus during my commute). Bluetooth is disabled on the laptop by corporate IT (who also says they can't support me w/this problem (which is some BS, but whatevs)).
So--subscribing to this thread. I'm hoping some networking whiz can help us figure out what's up.
FoxFi app may work...
Replying now w/laptop connected to the hotspot created by the FoxFi app. It seems to work. So that may be worth trying.
FoxFi not a fix, but March update seems to have been

Nope--FoxFi was not a fix (and after I coughed up for the 'pro' key version of it, seemed to just be an alternate UI for the native android tether function).
But since getting the March update wifi tethering is working again for me. Not sure if there was something in that update (I think the changelog mentions 'provider fixes' or some such) or if some bit of cached code just needed reaming out or what, but I'm happy at any rate.
I'm having the same issues. Work laptop will connect to hotspot but no internet. Personal laptop and other devices work just fine. Weird thing is that the work laptop might work long enough to load one web page then I get the "click here to fix internet connection". Even weirder, if I put my sim card in my old rooted GS4, tethering works on my work laptop! I am convinced it is something to do with the 6P.

Figured it out. Go to Settings >> cellular networks >> enhanced 4glte and disable it.
Works every time now.
