I have no issues wireless tethering my Nexus 6P and getting my tablet to connect to the portable hotspot. However when I try tk connect my laptop to the wireless hotspot , my laptop connects, but since it requires Cisco AnyConnect VPN to be used as well, that portion always seems to fail.
I have Verizon and never had this issue on any of my previous phones, and am wondering if it's something to do with Marshmallow. I tried to go to developer options and select 'Use Legacy DHCP client", but that doesn't seem to work.
I was wondering does anyone have any thoughts on what to try with this or maybe someone out there was able to get it working?
Thanks in advance!

Are you saying your phone or laptop requires Cisco AnyConnect to be used? I guess the first question is why do you need to use this, and can you try it without using the VPN?

It is my work laptop and the way it seems that it is setup, it is required to connect. I tried to skip the VPN and while it says it's connected on not able to pull up any sites. My personal laptop (without vpn) seems to work fine.

Having same issue (except VPN is NetMotion)
I'm also on verizon. It worked just fine until I got an upgraded work laptop (HP EliteBook). That PC can connect to (it seems) any wifi *but* my N6P hotspot (and likewise, my personal laptop can connect to N6P wifi hotspot no problem). USB tether does work, but I really need hands-free (am often wanting to use laptop on the bus during my commute). Bluetooth is disabled on the laptop by corporate IT (who also says they can't support me w/this problem (which is some BS, but whatevs)).
So--subscribing to this thread. I'm hoping some networking whiz can help us figure out what's up.
FoxFi app may work...
Replying now w/laptop connected to the hotspot created by the FoxFi app. It seems to work. So that may be worth trying.
FoxFi not a fix, but March update seems to have been

Nope--FoxFi was not a fix (and after I coughed up for the 'pro' key version of it, seemed to just be an alternate UI for the native android tether function).
But since getting the March update wifi tethering is working again for me. Not sure if there was something in that update (I think the changelog mentions 'provider fixes' or some such) or if some bit of cached code just needed reaming out or what, but I'm happy at any rate.
I'm having the same issues. Work laptop will connect to hotspot but no internet. Personal laptop and other devices work just fine. Weird thing is that the work laptop might work long enough to load one web page then I get the "click here to fix internet connection". Even weirder, if I put my sim card in my old rooted GS4, tethering works on my work laptop! I am convinced it is something to do with the 6P.

Figured it out. Go to Settings >> cellular networks >> enhanced 4glte and disable it.
Works every time now.

Trying to use Wifi Tether (google) app in rooted Vibrant (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=NexusOne)
Everything setup correct and works good on the phone itself. Laptop shows the connection as 'computer-to-computer' network rather than 'wireless network'. Although signal strengh is very good laptop just says "waiting for network..." and never connects. How to change Wifi Tether setting to show as 'wireless network' instead of 'computer-to-computer' network so that it will connect?
You should load the mobile AP patch instead. Works much better than the wifi tether app on the vibrant.

yes. mobileap is like 100 times better!
+1 for mobile ap flash.
I ran wireless tether app forever on my G1 and like this much better.

thanks for replying guys..i went to the mobile AP flash thread and read that you have to do clockwork recovery to flash it. I think when froyo update happens its gonna disable mobile AP flash?? I see people saying (and even Youtube videos) of using Wifi tether and Barnacle wifi legacy to tether from Vibrant. I tried both of them and they show as 'compter-to-computer' network on laptop and it wont connect.
You should delete everything & start from the beginning. If that doesn't work then try it on someone else laptop to see if that's the problem if not is your phone. Maybe is a problem the way u rooted your phone. If it continues doing it on the other laptop u are testing it. Most deff is your phone.
Froyo has wireless AP built in by default. We have yet to know if T-mobile will disable it. If they do, someone will just hack it back in.
Interesting. I prefer wireless tether. I think it works much better than the MobileAP.
So this turns out to be an issue with my laptop. Laptop is not able to connect to ad-hoc (computer to computer) wifi networks. Both wifi tethering app and Barnacle worked on a friends laptop. Got around 2 Mbps from T-mobile 3G.
I did have to update the driver for the wireless chip on one laptop to support ad-hoc networks, but it was worth it. If you're interested, check your wireless chip manufacturer's site for a newer driver.
The TMO sales-droids told me that the froyo update would enable the wireless hotspot (MobileAP), but who knows till we actually get it. Even if it does, if it works like the MobileAP does now, I'll continue using wireless-tether.

MobileAP didn't work for me. Win7 showed no internet activity.
Wireless Tether on the other hand worked perfectly, so YMMV.
Does anyone has a problem while using mobile AP while the connection is steady but after the screen dims or locks up the speed slows down and sometimes cut off the tether to the device? would there be anyway around this?

maybe a dumb question but i rooted girl's vibrant and flashed mobileAP which worked great the first day. i couldnt get barnacle or google's wireless tether to actually connect to anything. But now she's trying to use it today and it won't connect due to DNS issues. Would it be the phone at fault or the laptop? I already tried refreshing the IP using command prompt but it didn't help.
Anyone having issues with the Wireless Tether app? Whenever I try using it, my phone keeps constantly dropping its 3g data connection. I also discovered that my WiFi connection on the phone itself kept dropping connections. Couldn't even stream a full minute on any YouTube video without it cutting out. Uninstalled Wireless Tether, and my WiFi has worked fine ever since.
Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Or, is there another wireless tether app I can try?

i use Barnacle (the Legacy version). It works great with my Fascinate. I had wireless tether at first but my mac would never locate the signal. Barnacle hasnt failed me yet.

Ditto.. before you spend too much time trying to get to the bottom of this, give Barnacle Legacy a shot.
I had a similar problem with both Wireless Tether and Barnacle Tether, but once I used Barnacle Legacy, I'm able to tether my iPad!
Wow, you guys are awesome! I've got Barnacle Legacy installed, and it works great! No degradation in wifi performance that I can see. Looks like it uses a different approach than Wireless Tether, which makes it more compatible across different phones.
Only downside I see at the moment is that it can only use WEP encryption, which was rendered obsolete ages ago. WPA support would be a big plus. I don't necessarily have anything to hide, just don't like to make myself an easy target.

Were you using the experimental version? It's working well for me.

Yes, I was using the latest version, which btw is listed as experimental on the website. I don't see a non-experimental one available. In any case, Barnacle is my friend for the time being.

Huh... I could never get my computer to connect to Barnacle. It's got full bars and I have Windows 7. I can't figure out how to make it work for me.
I've tried several versions of wireless tether, barnacle and barnacle legacy and it gives them all root access, but nothing with WiFi is able to successfully connect.
Remember that wireless tethering uses ad-hoc connections, not infrastructure, like your wireless router does. If your wireless devices don't play nice with ad-hoc connections, that could be your issue. Check to see if there are driver updates for the wireless card in your computer.

There is a good chance that Xbox live won't work with Barnacle since it uses an ad-hoc connection. I know the PS3 doesn't work with ad-hoc but not 100% sure on the Xbox.

Everything else works great for me in this build. No color change, no battery discharge.....The only issue i have with this build is that i cannot connect any other device with Wireless Tethering, or USB Tethering. 2.3.2 worked fine for me with either but today i tested and tried to connect and was unsucessful with both. How is everything holding up for you guys? If you had the problem how did you solve it. Thanks.

Testing now. Will report back in just a moment.
Okay, so I was able to get USB tethering to work immediately (surprisingly my Google Cr-48 didn't need any configuration) but I'm having a little trouble with WiFi tether. I'm going to test a few more things and then get back to you (just FYI this was posted via USB tethering!)
And got it figured out. Apparently just had no data connection where I was sitting. Odd. So again I was able to get it to find the network and am posting this edit from the wireless hotspot. (Its slow because I'm on edge but w/e)
And one last update: I was able to get wireless tether to work first try on my MacBook Pro however when I tried USB tethering, it was a different story. I plugged in the phone, turned on USB tethering and watched it cycle on then immediately off. I can't seem to figure out how to get this to change and my wife probably won't let me do much more testing on it since I have my Cr-48 to play around on lol

Interesting. It sounds like your USB tethering issue is similar to the one I was having on Mac OSX (see edited post above) but not quite the same since I did not get an error, it merely turned off. I wish I knew more about tethering but this is the first phone I've ever gotten it to work successfully at all so I'm at a bit of a loss when it comes to troubleshooting.
Just for posterity though you should identify what operating system your computer is running so we can figure out if this is a Mac issue or if it applies to Windows as well. Also, just to make sure, your signature says you're running 2.3.3 stock, is that correct? (I ask because my signature is not accurate; it says I'm on CM7rc1 which is not true: I'm on stock 2.3.3 with Netarchy's 1.2.5 CFS kernel)
I'm on vista right now. And my signature is accurate

Okay, later tonight or tomorrow I'll test wireless and USB tethering on my Win7 partition.
Alright, I was able to test Windows 7 and here is what happened. I had a lot of issues at first getting it to work. It got stuck on identifying and I had to reboot my phone to get it to actually recognize the network. I did however eventually get it to work for both hotspot and USB tether. Also, I had a similar issue for the USB tether that I was having on MacOSX but it was solved when Windows unsuccessfully installed the drivers (you know the popup it gives when you plug it in). Which I find odd because until it FAILED the option would say "Connecting", "Connected" then "Disconnected".
Interestingly enough I randomly decided to test it on my Cr-48 again and no longer am able to get USB tethering to work. It connects but is unable to actually get internet. Odd.
No problems at all. Tested the hotspot on a Windows 7 machine as well as one running XP. Upgraded to 2.3.3 the manual route. Cheers!
it won't really affect me none because I barely use it. Just tested it to see if it worked. I also noticed that some of my albums are split in two. These are the only two problems I am having.

It works on the Verizon Note 5. Using it right now to post this.
FoxFi is working for me (Verizon) and at least lets me survive without rooting, although I'm starting to miss more features and stability with popular ROMs. I'm having more force closes and phone freezes than I've ever had on a rooted phone in the past.
My question is: has anyone vetted the FoxFi app? I understand that it has to install a certificate to accomplish it's goal. But has anyone tested network traffic and attempted to see if the FoxFi app is reporting network traffic or content to the FoxFi developer? It would be capable of doing this even when the FoxFi app is not functioning as the certificate remains. This could easily collect CC numbers and account passwords. I'm feeling like someone is watching me through the window at night.
easy thether works on bluetooth too.
It DOES NOT work on the ATT Note 5. Had to side load it and it will not turn on the hotspot. I refuse to pay another $30 for Hotspot function to AT&Thief so I would love to find a work around.

I just installed the app and it works. FoxFi use native tether program on the phone. I also have "Tether WIFI Router" that tethers directly. There are no real controls with FoxFi, but with other program you have to configure to make it work.
That problem I'm having, if I'm using FoxFi or the Tether WIFI Router, it disconnects my bluetooth. I can not seem to get around that issue. When I disconnect the tethering programs I have access to my bluetooth.
Let me know if you need the settings.

Apologies if this is already known, but I couldn't find anything on it when searching.
Many years ago I bought the paid version of FoxFi when I had my Razr before root options were available. On a whim, I installed it to see if the USB tethering would work with PdaNet. Not only did I find that USB tethering works, but WiFi direct also works under the PdaNet options. I know this isn't a totally free option (I think the free version of FoxFi either limits total data and/or turns off intermittently), but it does work very well. You can also download PdaNet for your computer from your phone and transfer it via USB cable - so you can still make this work if you have no other internet connection than your phone. Hope this helps.

PdaNet seems to have to be installed on the client device. In my case a computer. PDANet can be downloaded from PDANet.co (not .com). To my knowledge PdaNet only works on Mac, Windows, and Android - so a TV (if that's what you're using) may not work. I am currently posting this from my computer using PdaNet + FoxFi as it's the only internet connection I have available during the week.
I didn't have any luck with the WPS - not sure where the issue is/was, but entering the password in manually has been very trouble free. I can watch Netflix and Youtube without issue, but Twitch seems to have some issues. I haven't tried gaming yet (though the connection was good enough to get my games updated) - but hope to soon.

Cool, yes, I got it working on a windows computer, but wasn't able to get it to work on the Firestick streaming device. Not a TV.
Can you use Wi-Fi Direct to your PC and then use the WiFi share function to your firestick?
If you have Windows 10 on your PC you can usb tether (or wifi direct) the computer to your phones internet, then use the windows 10 mobile hotspot option to broadcast the signal to your other devices. I have my firestick hooked up with this setup, and my Xbox 1 too.
---------- Post added at 01:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:27 AM ----------
If you don't have Windows 10 you can tether your PC, then go to network and sharing center, click on change adapter settings, then right click the tethered connection with internet, hit properties, then the sharing tab, click the box on that says "allow other network users blah blah blah", then select the other connection that you wish to have internet. Before I started using Windows 10 this is how I would hook up my Xbox 1 through the Ethernet connection via PDANET+ usb tether. Works perfectly.
So I noticed it doesn't work on the Sticks. But it does work on the Pendant and Cube. The latter devices show a VPN prompt on the first time. I think that may have something to do with it.
