Don't think this has been posted here yet so I thought I would share.
Droid-Life.com has the article, and here's the download link.
edit:
lol: "If you can't see the screen while wearing sunglasses, take them off."
Also, there seems to be a help app you can download a http://www.motorola.com/xoomhelp but it doesn't appear to be available yet.
So, no USB charging, it requires it's own unique power cable.
Also, it mentions the HDMI out, and says you can watch videos, display your pictures, and show videos you've recorded all via HDMI. It does not say that it outputs the screen to HDMI like the Adam. This is something I want, and so far it doesn't look too good..

It seems like it's going to be exactly the same as it is on the Droid X, there are apps to allow clone mode output through HDMI on the X. Hopefully they will get a app for the Xoom not to far after it's release.

Huh, wonder why there isn't an app like that for the EVO. The EVO has the same issue, only Gallery and YouTube outputs via HDMI, and nobody has been able to make it do otherwise.
The Notion Ink Adam outputs the entire screen via HDMI, that's what I want for the Xoom.
I would bet this has all to do with HDCP.
It will be interesting to see how Netflix / Hulu Plus will be handled with this feature once they're available.
And also how the 'Speaker HD Dock' interfaces with this issue.
No usb charging isn't good..but since it has 10 hours of battery life i think i can deal with it.

In nearly all cases I have seen with smartphones, what they claim is always more than what you will get even in standby. It is like they test things in safe mode with nothing running. I hope at least 10 hours but I would not be surprised if it is much less. Although I want one bad, I think I am going to wait for the early adopters to report real world numbers first.
I love it when people report they get "Days" on new roms... I cant get "days" if i set ANY of my bloody phones on a table and left it to do NOTHING for the whole time lol.

I'm half tempted to wait on buying a Xoom until after the Netflix information is available. I mean, it's not a huge deal... I have a PS3, which I use for all my Netflix, but in the off-chance that I buy a second TV, I would expect my Xoom to be my primary Netflix delivery device.

So far, everything seems to work pretty well. No force closes, the few games I have tried look great, everything is nice and smooth for the most part.
But god dammit, I just wanted one thing. ONE THING. To be able to play scene release 720p HD Tv shows, when I'm on the train every day, without having to re-encode. For years, there has been almost no solution to this. I consider it nothing short of a miracle that I can play the lower quality xvid rips on my Evo.
There are always other players like Archos that just play this stuff right out of the box. But I always wished that something I would carry anyway would play it, like my phone or tablet.
I downloaded every media player I could get a hold of with good reviews. Rock Player, VPlayer, qqplayer, arcmedia, mVideoplayer. No success. The best I could get was sound with choppy/lagging video, in Rock Player.
I know there are alternatives, but like I said, for this to be a feature on something I would be carrying on an every day basis for multipurpose use, instead of a dedicated media player is top feature to me.
I'm just trying to figure out if there is any hope of this eventually working on the current slew of Honeycomb Tablets with app optimization, or if the processor just can't handle it. Anyone have decent/extensive knowledge on that subject?

The hardware is capable of it. You just need to stop buying devices that don't hardware accelerate mkv files. You need to look for something with divx certification. My epic4g plays ridiculously high bitrate 720P mkv files FLAWLESSLY, because Samsung went the extra mile and got hardware acceleration for avi and mkv files. The evo is a mess because its made by HTC and HTC doesn't give a crap about media capability. The evo stutters playing AVI files because it has to software decode them, which makes me laugh at my friend who owns it. That giant screen and it is useless for video. A tablet without divx certification is useless to me, which is one of the dozen or so reasons I will not be buying the Xoom.
Well if they do that for the new Tab, then the Xoom is going right back.. I have 90 days to find out

Thats what I am hoping for too. So far the entire line of Galaxy S phones and the Galaxy Tab was divx HD certified. I am hoping and praying that the delicious Galaxy Tab 10.1 with its giant 6860 mah battery has Divx HD certification as well. I can't imagine it wouldn't.

Idk I turned on hardware decoding on RockPlayer in my Xoom and it started playing the 720P almost seamlessly, but no audio... weird
It is hardware decoding my mkv's though I am hitting an annoying bug where sound stops. going to home and back restores sound though.
The m4v I put on is being decoded in software and it can't quite handle it smoothly.
I will have to try a couple of my mp4 rips.
Yes they really should add more codecs to default Android. I bet they expected some 3rd party apps to arrive.

A similar problem on the Tegra 2 Notion Ink adam was fixed with a software update or a custom rom.
When shipped, all the players etc, were choppy or desynced or had no audio - but running a custom rom fixed these problems. Additionally, shortly after shipping, Notion ink provided an update that fixed these problems on stock.
Its definetly a software issue - it will be fixed soon im sure.
OK Rockplayer can not handle my default mp4 rips well. They are nothing particularly special though I don't use ... I can't remember the term. "simple mode" I use the higher modes to allow for better quality for size.
Ah well, most of my newer stuff I rip to mkv's anyway (subtitle and alternative audio support).

I'm sorry, not to use a Steve jobsism, but if you have to convert videos for your tablet you have failed. I think it's ridiculous to have to do it for phones, which is why i bought the epic4g. To have to do it on a tablet is ridiculous, especially one with a dual core processor and an eight core gpu. The freaking iPad can play 720p mkv files now with xbmc ported over.

Strange as I am reading this a Xoom commercial came on the TV saying that the Xoom is "everything a tablet should be" and even showing a video playing on the device. I hope they are not serious about this issue.
+1 thanks for Costco return window
well I dont know what to say.. I tried two different formats (mp4 and mkv) 720p, and both worked just fine, all video and audio was perfect. These were top gear uk episodes. I'll try a dvd rip and see what happens now.
And.... any news in that regard?
If you own an iPad, how is this situation there?
I mean, can you just throw any video files and iPad will play it flawlessly?
I just want to know this comparison.
If VLC is available for Android, do you think this kind of issue will be solved?
I read this is caused by Google not investing on "codec" (licensing), neither does VLC.
If VLC can solve this, why Google does not want to use it
Sorry, if I got this all wrong. I am not an expert on video thing ...

When you consider how many people are banging on in here about 3.1 and how it's going to fix 1000's of bugs (Yah, Ok, I know, I'm exaggerating..), there's NOT really a hell of a lot in that list that's all worth screaming for joy about.
I probably won't even bother updating.
There's not a lot in there I want, maybe 1080 output on hdmi (was that "i" or "p"?? If it's 1080i, I definitely won't bother updating just for that..)
Oh, it was "p" (you can't see the original messages when you're entering your one, silly that).. I might update for that.

I personally definitely find the support for wider range of media files and 1080p support already more than worth the upgrade. Not that 720p is anything to scoff at either, but I got a 1080p TV here and my friends have those too, so obviously it's great to have if I wish to hook my tab up to TV.
Besides, people are saying the 3.1 makes the whole thing a lot smoother and faster, so ain't that already good enough of a reason to upgrade?

Nice, 1080p is a must for some, no news about 1080p mp4 playback?, high profile 720p mp4 video playback is only software and it's choppy (powerpoint like, low fps) and mkv is non existent, I really want tegra to shine because it has the power to.
Also any info about recording at least decent 720p from rear camera, right now kinda sucks (too grainy).

I actually had the Xoom before trying out the Iconia. The transition between 3.0.1 to 3.1 was very nice. The system was more responsive, browser was faster and more stable, better support for high profile movies, and the re-sizable widgets made my screens so much more useful. The whole OS seemed more stable, no more random FCs.
So I personally am looking forward to the update.

In short, I want to use my Nexus 10 to play games on my Windows desktop, on the same network. I have a 5GHz router + Gigabit Ethernet, so the connection should (hopefully) be fine.
There are only two programs that I'm aware of that should be able to do this. Kainy, and Splashtop 2. Both programs have their own issues though.
With Kainy, if I use anything above Fair image quality, either the top or bottom-half of the screen on the N10 will be corrupted. Also it seems there is a decent amount of audio delay (video is fine, audio is behind), and the framerate on the N10 seems to drop drastically randomly.
With Splashtop 2, it works for the most part, except input is always treated as a tablet. For example, with just my N10 at all, if I try turning the camera on any 3D game, it will "spaz out" and go every which way and not behave as intended. If I plug in a USB mouse to my N10, it will do the same exact thing (I guess mouse input on Android is still seen as touch).
Not sure if there's any known fixes for the above issues I ran into (if there is, I'd love to hear ) but is there any other programs available that might help me be able to stream PC games to my Nexus 10 at decent framerate?

It is, but the app works (and can be purchased for) on the N10 strangely...
In any case, the THD version "does" work, but it puts a virtual joystick on-screen for camera controls it seems (I only tried it with the WoW profile). But touchscreen and mouse turning were still an issue.
I emailed Splashtop 2's support about it and they said it was something they were looking into.
The Kainy developer mentioned on his forums that the next version should fix some issues, which I'm hoping will fix the issues I'm having.

It would be nice when I'm not in-front of my computer. For example, I walk to a friend's house almost every weekend, and dragging my entire Desktop along is kind of a pain. Essentially, I would love to just be able to Stream games from my Desktop while it's at Home, to my tablet (which is far easier to take) There's also a coolness factor I would think if I would play some Guild Wars 2 from a tablet
Also it would be nice around the house too if I wanted to play some Dota 2 if I was downstairs or something lol.

ty, very helpfull
Anyone using plex and not able to get it working on our phone? I can't get it to play over 4g, and wifi takes longer to load a movie than with my previous phone. Just curious if anyone else is having this problem. I noticed more recent reviews in the play store of the app complain of this as well.
Hmm, works for me on a 1080p mkv file as well as my standard mp4's. Seems to be better than the Xperia Z I traded for, and leagues better than the S4 I had.

That's weird. It plays fine over cellular?
There are more people with the issues in the plex forums complaining now. Can't seem to get it working.
Yeah, with two bars of LTE. Are you running the PlexPass early releases?

No I don't have it. I'm just running the app. I'll look into the pass. Thanks.
I also don't ha e lte here, just 4g.
I had to change the settings from 720 to 1080 for both cell and wifi within Plex app, then I restarted Plex and boom goes the dynamite
plex pass doesn't make a difference. changing the quality probably helped because it was direct playing videos which seems to work. transcoding doesn't work.

Didn't make a difference for me on 4g. I did have to do this over wifi. Weird.
