Anyone using plex and not able to get it working on our phone? I can't get it to play over 4g, and wifi takes longer to load a movie than with my previous phone. Just curious if anyone else is having this problem. I noticed more recent reviews in the play store of the app complain of this as well.
Hmm, works for me on a 1080p mkv file as well as my standard mp4's. Seems to be better than the Xperia Z I traded for, and leagues better than the S4 I had.

That's weird. It plays fine over cellular?
There are more people with the issues in the plex forums complaining now. Can't seem to get it working.
Yeah, with two bars of LTE. Are you running the PlexPass early releases?

No I don't have it. I'm just running the app. I'll look into the pass. Thanks.
I also don't ha e lte here, just 4g.
I had to change the settings from 720 to 1080 for both cell and wifi within Plex app, then I restarted Plex and boom goes the dynamite
plex pass doesn't make a difference. changing the quality probably helped because it was direct playing videos which seems to work. transcoding doesn't work.

Didn't make a difference for me on 4g. I did have to do this over wifi. Weird.

Hey I am going to trade in my evo for an epic 4g. My evo has a crack and I do not really feel like fixing it or trading it in for another Evo, I like trying out new things when I am done with my old one.
My two questions about the Epic:
1. I take my video watching pretty seriously. I take the subway everyday and I spend that time reading rss feeds, reading comics/manga, and watching tv/movies/anime. Lately it seems no matter how hard a try, my evo doesn't like showing movies any more. Any video player I use just lags. I have tried avi and mp4. Especially when playing 720p video it justs lags, didn't do that before. How are people's experiences with video playback? Also the MAIN reason I am choosing the Epic over other Sprint devices is that I heard the Samsung Galaxy phones support mkv natively. Any anime geek would tell you that a large portion of anime being released is in mkv format. It would save me a lot of time if I could transfer them without transcoding. So does the Epic natively support mkv? How does it fare against 720p mkv playback?
2. I just watched a Youtube vid comparison of the Nexus S and the Epic from Phonearena. The video was made in December 2010 and at the time the Epic was still on 2.1. My Evo is on 2.2...I would hate to downgrade. Is there an official OTA for the Epic to go to 2.2...or even 2.3?
Any other comments on the phone?

Yeah there's an official 2.2 update (it's EC05) - 2.3 (latest is EE03) has been leaked from Sprint, and we're hoping that soon we'll get an official 2.3
I really love the phone, and am super happy I got it. My bro has the evo and (call me old school but) I'm happy I have the option to use a physical keyboard. I hardly ever use the touch keyboard - I find it too finicky.
1. The video playback is superb! The epic has better hardware so you won't experience any lag. Also the epic screen is beautiful. Much more color, and brightness. Your anime won't look like washed colors..
2. There is a leaked 2.3 out (June 20th official?). It's a hit or a miss. But there are 2.2 roms that are ridiculously fast, stable, and battery efficient. Check out the development section.

*someone correct me if I'm wrong*
Supposedly GB is going to enable GPU acceleration for our processors. I imagine that if there were ever any lag present while watching videos that it would remedy the issue. After rooting and adding a few tweaks the Epic does live up to its name. Out of the box I didn't find it to be anything special however. As a testament to the hardware our phones are actually able to run games that are specially tailored to the dual core Tegra phones.
When you get your phone turn off auto brightness and you can slide your finger along the status bar to manually control it which is a really nice feature. Saves a ton of battery as well.

Yes. The epic supports mkv natively. 720p mkv playback has worked nearly perfectly for any video I have tried.
My roomate had the evo. And I'm telling you the epic is much faster, and the screen is soooo much better the evo doesn't even compare. The picture is amasing better then the evo and all the droid phons

I watch a lot of fansubs and whatnot on my Epic. Yes, it does natively support MKVs. If your looking to watch them subbed, though, the default Samsung player will not playback softsubs. But thats easily remedied by other apps you can get from the market. Personally, I use an app called mVideoPlayer. It works awesomely.
I am starting to branch out with a friend of mine who has an Evo and studying some on ROM development and app development and since we do a lot of things side by side, I can confirm my Wifi Tether is twice as fast as his on his Evo. Anyone who wants something tested side by side against an Evo can PM me and I can probably make that happen

I never thought I'd say this, but I love watching video on a cell phone, thanks to the Epic. The screen and internal chips are awesome. HBO go, avi files, YouTube and flash (and Netflix some day officially I hope)--they all work great. This is a cinephile's phone, no doubt.

I'm going to have to agree. I enjoy watching videos of all kinds on my Epic. From MLB to Media Hub and now Netflix. I find myself willing on paying for content thanks to the Epic. I'm guessing its only going to get better when the galaxy s2 comes out.
Wow thanks for all of the feedback guys. I am so amped to get this new phone.
Lately everything has been sucking and I am trying remedy the problems. I am planning on upgrading my cf5770's to a gtx 580 as well. SO having that and the Epic would make me feel so much better.
I have not been able to watch ANYTHING on my Evo for the past few months. Also I cracked the screen but that was after the video lag stuff.
Thanks guys!
I did a test on both on the desktop version of bbc iplayer , i played the hd versions of programs, the s3 just skips struggles, and the htc one x is butter smooth quality of picture is amazing, both was using same wifi connection, ???
also when both set on auto brightness the S3 is way darker , actually too dim, is this ploy to get better battery, the htc one x auto brightness was nice ,
Thanks
I just tried a quick hd test as well and yeh the gs3 does seem to struggle with hd on iplayer. Pretty disappointing. Reviews showed that the gs3 could handle 1080p flash video perfectly so here's hoping it's an easy software fix.

ya its annoying as the HTC one x can do it right off, quality on the hd is amazing , think the res the hd on bbc iplayer is around same res of screen as well,
Its likely to be a problem with iPlayer itself, not the S3, this isnt the first time such a thing has happened.

Ah, how disappointing.
So, clearly the app is not optimized for S3.
Did you do a WiFI speed/drop-out test just to make sure it wasn't a wifi issue (unlikely, but theoretically possible I guess).

Anyone experience audio lag when watching netflix on mojo?
It's not horrible but enough to notice.
Is it the tegra lacking or my wifi connection?

My audio lag must be a wifi issue.
I will try netflix tonight with the Ethernet plugged in.

Tried this last week. It gives an error message saying to upgrade to the new version right when you sign in. I was disappoint.
So far no one has taken the torch and tried to hack the latest versions to gain the extra bitrate. I'm certainly not getting HD output from my Netflix. Looks completely crap compared to what I get from our "Smart TV." I really want this think to be my go-to media center. Without quality Netflix, it's not cutting it. However I'm streaming HD from YouTube just fine. Love MovieTube 3.1.

Do we at least get 1080p with other apps at least? Or is this a 4.2.2. limitation?

You get 1080p with other apps, and the default res on the Mojo is 1080p (so if you just have it at the Android homescreen you have 1080p signal).
Cast Moto X screen to Chromecast!
Change build.prop line ro.product.device to hammerhead then save and reboot.
Easy!
I posted here in Android Development because those with unrooted phones can't do this...plus, it's just a downright cool tweak.

Thanks, very easy ?
Sent from my XT1058 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
As mentioned prior, I was able to hack my build.prop, to convince Chromecast that my phone is a Nexus 5... After a reboot, the CastScreen option populated and just started working.
Initial thoughts... While it is still in beta, I figured with all the hype casting would be pretty polished by now.
Not so much.
The Chromecast struggles to produce video, and seems to heavily compress (or take a long time) to render anything. Photos do fairly well, but streaming video from phone to TV is totally useless.. I also recognized early on that the Chromecast doesn't seem to support 5g wireless, which would likely help a great deal with throughput.
I have seen a few YouTube videos showing better casting results, but using true Nexus gear. To be fair, there's a chance the Moto X isn't officially supported yet because Google may want to push all of this heavy lifting through our GPU.
Oh well, always fun trying new things.

One last thing...I encourage others to post their experiences here
Sent from my XT1060 using XDA Premium HD app
I discovered this build.prop edit on my own yesterday and tested it out. I noticed the heavy compression at first but things smooth out after a few moments. Quality seemed to be fairly good from what I could see. I'm I've got an 802.11ac router really close to my tv that my phone was connected to on 5ghz (though my chromecast was connected on 2.4ghz n). So maybe that had something to do with it. Playing sonic dash showed smooth clean graphics, but the latency was just a tad too slow to rely on the TV as a screen and the phone as a controller.
Watching MLB.TV quality definitely suffered a little and wasn't quite as smooth. Perhaps that was because I was streaming so there was data going back and forth to the router.
Also, note there is another post on XDA with an app someone threw together to enable mirroring on any device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193
I would guess this performance will be on par with casting a tab from Chrome on your PC. I know that experience sucks.

Wired I don't have as much of a problem but wireless I do. Then again there are many factors but all network related. Chromecast in relation to the router, wireless devices currently using the bandwidth on the router etc...
Since most people are not hardwired to their network I think its a valid post to talk about wireless tab casting especially since you will be casting with your phone wirelessly.
I'll try this on my moto x today. I'm casting to Chromecast from my nexus 7 and it works good. Not a lot of latency , buffering or anything. Quick and all, so I'll compare it with this hack on the moto x..

This version is great for people who rooted with pie root on version 4.4.2 since you can't modify your build.prop.
when I tried to use with my XT1058 with CM11, google play caught ... does anyone know how to solve?
I enabled the first and third option
cast screen workin in moto x2013 trick
first open hot spot from any other android mobile . after that connect moto x wifi with that hotspot mobile after that you will easily uese miracast in moto x 2013... screen mirroring
.
You don't need to do this anymore. The Chromecast app now supports mirroring from any device via a button in the app.

I'm thinking of buying this phone soon, but I'm also looking at the bigger Z3. Unfortunately there is a big price difference between the two.
