I did a test on both on the desktop version of bbc iplayer , i played the hd versions of programs, the s3 just skips struggles, and the htc one x is butter smooth quality of picture is amazing, both was using same wifi connection, ???
also when both set on auto brightness the S3 is way darker , actually too dim, is this ploy to get better battery, the htc one x auto brightness was nice ,
Thanks
I just tried a quick hd test as well and yeh the gs3 does seem to struggle with hd on iplayer. Pretty disappointing. Reviews showed that the gs3 could handle 1080p flash video perfectly so here's hoping it's an easy software fix.

ya its annoying as the HTC one x can do it right off, quality on the hd is amazing , think the res the hd on bbc iplayer is around same res of screen as well,
Its likely to be a problem with iPlayer itself, not the S3, this isnt the first time such a thing has happened.

Ah, how disappointing.
So, clearly the app is not optimized for S3.
Did you do a WiFI speed/drop-out test just to make sure it wasn't a wifi issue (unlikely, but theoretically possible I guess).

Tried the Channel 5 on demand website last night & the programs stream perfectly. All previous devices I've had (inc Nexus S, LG Optimus 2X, all HTCs, Asus Transformer Tab, Galaxy Tab, etc) would either struggle to work or all I'll get is a slide show with sound.
This is the first Android device I've ever had that works perfectly, but it did get uncomfortably hot after 4 episodes of Fifth Gear.
just tried this. And confirm you're right.
This thing flies. 1080p embedded videos, without even using Youtube app I can just click 720p -> 1080p, full screen mode. BAM smooth as butter.
Mighty pleased with hardware.

OMG! Your right. I have never been able to watch 5OD on Android. Even on my Galaxy Tab, it just stuttered all the way through programs. Just tried it now and it works! It actually looks really good too. Not sure what the quality is on 5OD but looks amazing on the SGSII.

funny how they photoshopped "Samsung" onto the front of the tab on all of their videos.
The most interesting piece is something about support of multi kind of video format and user does not need to convert!!!

I saw a TV ad last week for the galaxy tab 10.1, and it also had the "Samsung" logo plastered on the front bezel. I think they want to remind viewers that they are not looking at an iPad/generic tablet commercial.
Could be just a simple Samsung sticker.
It looks like it doesn't suck. And those mini apps sound like a good idea.

In stock honeycomb you dont have a separate video player app.
Have heard that the tabs that now ships with touchwiz has a dedicated videplayer app like the SGT 7" have. And that the support for divx/xvid is better.
lets us hope that with touchwiz and Samsung we can get a btter video experience like we are used to with the 7" Tab that worked so good playing video.
Does some one know if the Galaxy 10.1 shiped with touchwiz is divx certified like the 7" Is?
Edit: when they shows the hdmi adapter it looks that they also have connected it to the charger, if you have to have it connected to a charger to make it work it will suck.

Any word on whether not these features can be turned on or off?
Worried it may make things sluggish.
Do like the app while still in app functionality.
Just a reminder of how every once in a blue these skins do provide functionalities that should be default in android.

Everybody says that. Moboplayer plays just about everything with no conversion already. Playing everything back smoothly at 24-30 fps is a different story.
I believe when the Galaxy S came out it was one of the first phones to play DivX videos stock and it did a good job of it too... better than Mobo player does now I believe... and that was before anything else was around. Could be the case again?

This is true. The Touchwiz video player on my Epic (1ghz hummingbird) was much better than moboplayer. I'm really hoping Touchwiz makes the video playback at least equal to that - it was incredible.

Now THAT'S how you make a commercial, Samsung.
If you want to attack the iphone, you do something like this first, but first show someone watching video on the iphone first, then drop the note on top of it.
A 'why do this..... if you can do this'.......'
That will work 100x times better than the 'Iphone users are ninnyheads' commercials you are pushing.

I didn't care for the Superbowl ad at all but this one is great. The anti-iPhone ads were fun to begin with but the Superbowl ad took it too far and was just silly. I hope they continue with this type of ad which shows the strengths of the device in a nicely understated way.

They totally should have used this commercial in the super bowl.
I like this video, but just curious... Who else watched it on their Note? For me, no other video I've seen has so exemplified the grayscale rendering issue as this one. Looks horrendous.
The longer one is great. A brilliant choice of music; so much better than than the vulgarity of the Superbowl ad. The Superbowl was a missed opportunity but I hope they give this ad a decent amount of airplay. It should be used internationally as well. The international ads ,like this one which has been getting a lot of airplay in India, are decent enough but I like the above ad better. It exudes class and restraint while still showing off the capabilities of the device. It's one of the best electronics ads out there.
Very nice, far better than their other commercials...

Trying to simply select a show in the Netflix app with this tablet is a complete chore. The new UI combined with the crappy hardware makes it almost impossible. Everything seems to move at about 1 frame per second when scrolling through your instant queue or the list of categories. It takes way too long to find what I'm looking for. That said, the actual video playback is fine. But this problem seems to persist in other apps. I can't play Tiny Tower because using the elevator after buildling 20+ floors is a choppy mess and takes twice as long as it should if the game ran smoothly. There's similar problems in games like TowerDefense and news apps like Pulse, where the tablet struggles to load anything. The Play Store is laughable, because once you start downloading anything the entire thing locks up until it's finished and it seems to have no ability to multitask whatsoever.
Why does this tablet exist? The hardware is ****, the price point is equally ****ty (I have the 10.1 so it's $400), and Samsung doesn't seem to care that ICS is a choppy mess with the specs. I'm incredibly disappointed.

I was actually considering the Nexus 7, but am quite satisfied with the Galaxy Tab 2 7 now. With Cyanogenmod's announcement about CM10 and Jelly Bean I am pretty excited about the future of this tablet too.

Odd, I have a great experience with mine and it is just rooted stock. I traded in my asus tf300 for this and so far am quite happy with its snappy performance and colorful display.
Also, your language doesn't really help nor is it allowed. Having an angry rage post on a forum really isn't going to help anyone out so I would suggest calming down next time before posting on xda developers.
Recommend you do some research b4 you just start complaining about the device and software . I'm rooted and stock factory ROM and have no complaints. Get Titanium Backup and freeze or uninstall the apps you don't use (I froze them ) and the tab is now as fast and snapy as it should b . Also no problems with Netflix

My only experience is limited to my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. It is completely stock.
Netflix works perfectly and I do not notice any lag when browsing for movies.
During playback ,the video looks nice, much better than my iPad 2 and HP
Touchpad(Classicnerd ICS rom), but that's probably because the other two are
10-inch tablets.
I plan to try CM9 once my micro sd card arrives in the mail, but I'm not optimistic.
But you guys really don't get any lag whatsoever in the Netflix app? I'm using stock unrooted and I can barely scroll through the different rows; it practically locks up. The 7.0 and 10.1 have the same specs, right? I wonder if anyone else with the 10.1 has this problem.
@Darunion: Why did you trade your TF300 for the Tab 2, out of curiosity? I've been considering the exact opposite. And I apologize if a couple of s-words offended you somehow; I know we're all adults here but if it's indeed against the rules I will refrain next time. I'm not "raging" at all, but I just thought those adjectives worked best when describing this very frustrating tablet. /firstworldproblems
I have the 7 and haven't had any lag with cm9 and almost non existent lag on stock. I have a friend with the 10 and he can search/play with nextflix just fine.
I nor my friend have ever seen the tab lock up when downloading from the play store either.

Found a video that shows what I'm talking about, albeit on the TF300, which suggests that this might not be a problem specifically for this tablet but rather the app's lack of tablet optimization. I'm finding it even laggier than shown here and sometimes I can't scroll at all (it also FC's regularly), but I may have been too quick to blame the Tab 2's hardware. This might just be an inherent disadvantage for Android tablets, and I'm experiencing similar sluggishness in similar apps.

I saw a review on the nexus 7. It wasnt laggy, but it wasnt as quick as the galaxy nexus with jellybean because of the companion core and the lack if iptimization in the os. With the galaxy tabs on jellybean itll be a lot quicker. That optimization may be fixed too, it could have just been the stupid companion core doing most of it.

I use Netflix on tablets, phones, PC, and PS3.
PS3 is hooked up to a Panasonic 1080p projector
with a 133" Da-Lite screen. Netflix works best
on this setup... but it's probably because the PS3
has the best graphics capability?
However, I enjoy watching Netflix on my Samsung
Galaxy Nexus(phone) and my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0(tablet)
as well. They all work equally well, depending on
the quality of VZW 4G and/or wi-fi.

Netflix working awesome on Galaxy Nexus, Nook Color, Galaxy Tab2 7, PS3, Roku, laptops and desktops. When the competition fails Netflix has always succeed for me. Are there hiccups? Sure and they are mostly associated with the UI but you can't be all things to all people and devices. Thing is NOBODY comes as close as Netflix.
I have been using Netflix on my 7-inch Tab 2 for over a month. It's really smooth and I do not notice any lag at all.
Hello! I'm (a) new(b) here...and I recently got this wonderful tablet--it's my first, and I absolutely love the screen. Applications look awesome...and the doodling...yes, the doodling! :good:
Yet I just had to go on youtube (and basically a couple of other streaming video websites...Hulu Plus looks like Block-pocalypse ). The videos, even when set to "HD" buffer quickly, smoothly...but the actual content is, unfortunately different; most of them are blocky, and clarity is lacking. My (retired...it cost around 400$ in its day and has a terrible graphics card) laptop, 5 years old, even looks better and sharper even if the resolution is the same and it's stretched across 15 unforgiving inches (even WHEN set to medium quality it looks better...). On the smaller screen...well, there's a strange pixellation/distortion effect going on around sharper lines, whilst the laptop doesn't have the...quirk. Lol...at least the tablet's speakers are better.
I know I'm being a snob--the quality is somewhat passable...but hey. It's freaky. I noticed the quality gap instantly by simultaneously playing the two devices side by side on the same video. And so I'm a little bewildered. Well, a lot.
So...I might as well ask: is this...normal for tablets to look much worst then bigger-screened laptops with similar resolutions ? I think I remember being impressed last year when I picked up a old Transformer 10.1 model and looked at a Youtube video. The clarity impressed me. Have I been spoiled, or are tablets simply not as able as I thought, or wonder if it has to do with the wi-fi router I have? Well, like I've said, the videos all buffer without lag. :/ If I have to configure something...I don't know where to start!
Disclaimer: I tried for about two hours to look for a solution...but I'm too noobish to even know what to look for. You can e-slap me for being so dumb if you want. Also, this tablet is basically new. It's relatively unaltered. But I have installed adobe flash player. And I made sure to click on the "HD" option on youtube... >.>
Thank you sooooo much for any help. :crying:

Disclaimer: I tried for about two hours to look for a solution...but I'm too noobish to even know what to look for. You can e-slap me for being so dumb if you want. Also, this tablet is basically new. It's relatively unaltered. But I have installed adobe flash player. And I made sure to click on the "HD" option on youtube... >.>
Thank you sooooo much for any help. :crying:

Yep id have to agree with ya, Ive had the same issues, blocky video, with some sites, ive compared it to my 5 year old netbook and same thing, also did a quick comparison test with the tf201 prime before returning it, and it definatly didnt have that issue.

From my understanding, that APK is only necessary for people who DON'T have the HD option available.
HD options are available on all WiFi only devices, unlike Smartphone devices.
So the Note 10.1 having the HD option, doesn't need this APK.
