[Q] Restore Nandroid - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I guess this is a rookie question but here goes. I have a d801 that is rooted running CM nightly. It has the echo bug and I need to go back to stock. I have a nandroid backup in twrp from just after I rooted. Do I just need to hit the restore button on that? Is there anything else I need to do?
Sorry for the basic question, I tried searching but was not clear on exactly what I need to do.

I guess it will remain a mystery.

Anybody have a link to the original HTC Sprint Hero rom that comes stock with it?

Its just in case i cannot find any good roms that i like.
Look in the sticky about roms above. They will be the RUU's.
VV check the signature VV
flashing a RUU will reflash the stock SPL/recovery/system/etc images right, is there a update.zip that would be the equivalent? this would be ideal for people flashing "mods" that are in the update.zip format since it wouldnt require re-rooting everytime to go back to "stock".
Flashing the RUU will return the phone back to moment you got the phone. Stock ROM. No custom recovery. No root.

Here you go:

Guys, the OP is clearly requesting an update.zip to stock, not an RUU. though i find it arbitrary to make an update.zip since the RUU would do the same exact thing
The RUU comes with a ROM.zip
Seems like it would just need to be repackaged as an update.zip

You can do the same thing yourself, if you make a nandroid backup right after you root, then wipe data, then backup. Then you can restore your first backup with your setting ect...
Does that make sense?

Well, technically after you root it, you can make a nandroid backup. If you do the backup right after rooting it, you'll have a backup of the Sprint ROM, although with root. But that should be fine seeing as you never mentioned returning it etc.

You really don't need to do that, people really need to open their eyes & actually look. I even already started the OP in the right direction.

Actually, I do need to do that. He asked for a link to the ROM. I have the RUU, which is the ROM, and I provided him with a link.
Sorry for trying to help the OP.

Back up?

Recently I have bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab. I'm quite afraid to screw the OS up. So, I was wondering, is there a way to make a restore point?

+1.
If you intend to start going into rooting/flashing customs via odin/heimdall.
Guess 1st thing to learn to do is a stock backup.
What about creating a backup using CWM guys? Does Rotobackup do the same thing or better?

In order to make a Nandroid backup, you need to have already flashed a new kernel your Tab to install CWM. Rotobackup is the best way to make a backup prior to doing anything this "drastic".

Dave
Aha... Thanks, Dave.
Thought as much. Guess I was just being daft.
But once flashed with CWM, which would you prefer?
What happens when during flashing CWM, something happen? You wouldnt have any backup/stock rom to fall back on.

For sure RotoBackup at the begining
CWM thereafter.

I need a little "Flashing ROM's 101" please

I just rooted my EVO 4g with Gingerbread yesterday. There is so much information on this site that I am having trouble finding the information that I need . The thread that showed me how to root was incredible. Step by step instruction led me to success on the first try. You guys are awesome....thanks. I feel like I need that on Flashing ROM's to have an understanding of it.
Where can I find the list of available ROM's?
How do I go about actually flashing the ROM?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank

Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
Look in the dev section for all available roms. Look in the stickies tab for instructions on flash. Basically, boot into recovery, make a nandroid backup, wipe everything except your sd card and then flash away. Before doing anything though read read read and read some more.
We're comin from a pure power source.
Welcome aboard ... lots to learn, but not complicated. There is a list of all the roms in the development stickies, but reading through that forum is your friend. There are rooted stock sense roms (which I would try first), lots of themed variations, and aosp (cm, deck, salvage, omgb). Probably the most important thing to learn is how to wipe properly between flashing different roms, especially between sense and aosp. In recovery it's pretty self explanatory, just be sure to always backup ... including your wimax keys. In addition to wiping, I always flash Calkulin's "format all" zip before a new rom.
If you find yourself preferring aosp, be sure to keep a sense rooted backup, so that you'll be able to update your profile and prl. Be sure to read, read, search, and then ask your questions. Everything you need to know, has been asked and answered many times ... good luck.
Thanks guys. Already very helpful. Lots of info here. I'll update you on what happens
Like my man wmdunn said a few posts back.... Read, read, read and read some more.. The more informed you are the better your phone will run... Best of luck to you and FLASH ON!!!!!!!!!!!

With a good roll of TP (recovery) you will only need to wipe once.

I agree. Don't think the script wipe will get every thing. and why use a script when recovery can do it for you.
i had a major issue just today, and it all had to do with me not wiping....very itchy.....and it was causing 1/2 my phone not to work.no phone calls,no messaging,no market, couldnt download anything from a website,it was nuts for the last 36 hrs.but it all had to do with wiping,or not wiping.and i was taught that as a toddler
Some Pointers
First of all get rid of clockwork (the growing consensus is that it doesn't wipe well)
Use Amon_RA instead.
Second, make a nandroid of your WIMAX and stash that in a very safe spot just in case your wimax gets corrupted somewhere down the line.
Then as others have said
1. Make a Nandroid backup in case something goes wrong
2. Wipe (x3) (You can also use a script like superwipe or KingsMOD-FORMAT_ALL)
3. Flash ROM, kernel, mods, etc.
4. Enjoy!

Sure I can switch to Amon_RA. You say to make a nandroid of my WIMAX. Is this just a normal backup or is there a way to specify to just back up the WIMAX keys?

[Q] Restore twrp backup

Hey, sorry for the noob question. I'm rooted, stock with twrp recovery. If I flash a custom rom and then decide to go back to my backup is it just a case of booting into recovery, hit restore backup and that's it? Or do I have to take specific steps like wiping anything first/after.
Just want to cover my bases before I go ahead in case my kitten explodes or anything.
Thanks.
(Btw I did dearch first but theres a lot of conflicting answers and no clearly labelled steps, which I prefer.)

You just select "restore backup", and your phone will be restored to the state is was when you did the backup, regardless of you wiping before or not.

[help] no imei no baseband

First of all I'd like to express how I feel. I feel like crying! I honestly just spent my entire savings for this year to get my note III and now I have no idea how to get it back to work. Phone is working but IMEI is null and baseband is unknown.
I wanted to install a custom ROM and thought it would be a great idea to backup my EFS. I used EFS Professional v2.0.91 tool, and for some reason instead of backing up my efs this tool got rid of my imei and baseband. I have tried every solution there is and I reached a dead end and the point of I just wanna cry now! Please if anyone could help me!
SM-9005
EDIT: I am getting random reboots from time to time

OK I'll chime in here before you mess up your device due to advice that is very poor IMO.
The fire script only works if you lose your BASEBAND not your BASEBAND and IMEI!!!
By flashing the fire script it actually messes the device up more. And it should ONLY be run if you lose basband not IMEI/SN.
Read THIS thread and learn the risks, your device can be fixed, however you need to use ADB and be prepared for a bit of a headache to restore your IMEI.
People need to stop recommending that fire script until they know what the hell it actually bloody does.

Your issue would have been loss of BASEBAND not IMEI and BASEBAND, there is a HUGE difference. I suggest you learn the differences and how they vary before recommending a script that can ruin a device.

you are mistaken bro, the brickloop fix was actually made for efs/imei loss,. that was being caused when the note 3 was first released and the custom recoveries deleted imei
i have helped many ppl get their imei back using that very fix
