First of all I'd like to express how I feel. I feel like crying! I honestly just spent my entire savings for this year to get my note III and now I have no idea how to get it back to work. Phone is working but IMEI is null and baseband is unknown.
I wanted to install a custom ROM and thought it would be a great idea to backup my EFS. I used EFS Professional v2.0.91 tool, and for some reason instead of backing up my efs this tool got rid of my imei and baseband. I have tried every solution there is and I reached a dead end and the point of I just wanna cry now! Please if anyone could help me!

OK I'll chime in here before you mess up your device due to advice that is very poor IMO.
The fire script only works if you lose your BASEBAND not your BASEBAND and IMEI!!!
By flashing the fire script it actually messes the device up more. And it should ONLY be run if you lose basband not IMEI/SN.
Read THIS thread and learn the risks, your device can be fixed, however you need to use ADB and be prepared for a bit of a headache to restore your IMEI.
People need to stop recommending that fire script until they know what the hell it actually bloody does.

Your issue would have been loss of BASEBAND not IMEI and BASEBAND, there is a HUGE difference. I suggest you learn the differences and how they vary before recommending a script that can ruin a device.

you are mistaken bro, the brickloop fix was actually made for efs/imei loss,. that was being caused when the note 3 was first released and the custom recoveries deleted imei
i have helped many ppl get their imei back using that very fix

Hi All,
I thought I would share the complete update I grabbed while my a500 was updating. Hopefully it will help those who are having OTA update issues. There is absolutely no modifications and this image is not rooted. the version numbers before and after the update are as follows.

I take no responsibility for creating a brick if something goes wrong. May be a good idea to create a CWM backup prior to flashing.
? stock recovery or cwm flashing?
so can i just flash this
I had rooted right out of the box and i regret doing it cuz i dont see a real reason to overclock when everything runs fine as is..
can i flash in cwm(power vol.-) or stock recovery (power vol.+)
thank you for this i wanted to unroot and go back to stock but every time i tried to update it said network coverage is poor please find a different location ..

Yes and no,
You can flash with CWM however after downloading the archive you will need to extract it and only use the update.zip from within. You need to place the update on the EXTERNAL sd card for it to work. It is running great on my a500.
Make sure your version is running the same as the before I have posted in the OP. I don't know if it will make a difference but it might.
Ok yea before I rooted it wanted me to update to the ver. You had before you updated to your current build.
I wounder if you are correct about update to 3.1 then 3.2 cuz it definitely was trying to do the other build not the 3.2 unless that is new..
I hope that the update help fc'ings with some gameloft games asphalt 6 was downloaded while on 3.0.1 tried to play compatibility issue then used a501 rom and others all popular roms still didn't work...
Frustrating ..
Is there a way after I update to do a factory reset to delete every and start over .. everytime I try it just delete apps kinda all programs are still there though ex. I go to market after factory reset and it says open insted of install so the apps are hidden but still installed lol..
Sry for writing a book but I'm getting frustrated.
thank you again bud!

Please dear God help me out with this, I am so lost! So I bought an Acer A500 tab, and I want to root it. But before that! I want to save the current firmware and the CWM due to me having a two year warranty on the device, and I'm a afraid if I were to return the device with issues clearly it'll void the warranty since I've rooted the device. So please can anybody help me out? I am in huge need of help!
Thanks in advance!
To help you I need first some information about your tab. First, what android version is installed on your tab? The best backup will be with CWM but then you need root.
Of course you could connect your tab to the PC via USB and copy everything to your HDD. But I think here you need root as well to be able to see the system folders... .

A paradox.
You can't save your current rom in it's native form unless you root. And you can't save it, unless you install a custom recovery. And even then, you're saving a modified OS that if you restore, will be modified. So a paradox.
So if you want to root, and install roms, you'll just have to suck it up like everybody else
Fortunately, lots of methods to revert back to stock in case needed.
So, you either take the plunge, or stay stock.
Not only that but most Big Box stores dont have a clue and rarely look at it anyway ,unless you tell them its something you did (which would void the warranty) . But for me personally I void warranty within a few hours on everything I get , if its electronic they always take it back , I wouldnt worry about it , run a bunch of stress tests for a couple days if the components are sound ,it will complete them no problem , then root away and have fun!
Thank you all!
Thank you all for your replies! I can honestly say, I can happily root my device without a worry now. But I have a couple of things I'd like to ask, for one. What is a cpu ID? Also say for example I rooted my device and want to revert back to the original OS is that possible or not? Here is my current information.
Android Version
3.0.1
Kernel Version
2.6.36.3-00001-gf991e5d
Build number
Acer_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1
That's my current information. IF anybody of you guys call tell me I would like to root my device but with ICS not with Honeycomb since at the moment that's what I currently have. Also I have 2 year warranty.
Cheers! And much appreciation!
First, this is an excellent post about CPUIDs, why you need them, and how to get them posted by dibb_nz ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25429111#post25429111 this will really give some direction on why it's important and how you can get it.
If you want to root an ICS rom I recommend reading this post from Civato on how to upgrade your bootloader to v6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425 I recommend the Automated Flashing tools for ease, but the manual version is good if you want to know more about what you're doing on the tablet.
Then pick a ROM, I personally use Flexreaper Extreme, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22964651&postcount=1 but there are several out there to choose from, I recommend putting several on your MicroSD card before you start any portion of the process and that way you have several to choose from, test between them, and don't "over customize" until you make your decision.
Finally, I'll remind to you, as many others will do, BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!
Good Luck, and most importantly, have fun!

You freaking rock bro! I have a question, since I already have Honeycomb on my Android by default, would I need to root first before I update it to the newer version of the ICS? OR would I just have to manually update it first and then begin the process of rooting the device? I as well admire Flexreaper Extreme. I also noticed there are special mods for the device to change the skin etc...Would you know where I can get the tutorial on that? I know I'm jumping too much, but I'm too darn excited to do this. Hahaha.
Cheers!

You should be able to start the process by going through the steps in Civato's post on how to change your Bootloader, make sure you have a ROM on the MicroSD before doing this, and then follow the steps to install the ROM you choose.

Sounds like it didn't install cleanly. Double check the checksum, try redownload, wipe everything and reinstall. If that doesn't work make sure that your bootloader and Rom match.

Hi! Thanks for your reply I have successfully rooted my device after hours of research I had to reinstall everything from scratch, unfortunately my build for my tab isn't the same as the the build I had it when I bought it, oh well...So now I have HC 3.0.1
So now I want to flash the device, is that possible? I want to get that ICS look without updating it to the ICS. I was wondering what would you advice me to do? haha, I know I'm asking way too many questions in this single form, I have an excuse for that I'm a noob, hahaha. But seriously your help is very much appreciated!
I will suggest rooting your HC ROM first, then install recovery for example via acer recovery installer. Make a backup then!
After that you can use AFTEROTA to upgrade the bootliader and recovery. When finished install an ICS ROM of your choice. With the help from AFTEROTA you can all ways go back to stock HC version.

[Solved] Thank you every that helped me
Thank you guys for your help and advices! I have successfully updated and rooted, and flashed my device after hours of reading and going through posts, hahaha. Of course I did do a full backup of everything and now I am good to go! Again thanks again guys, much appreciation!

You obviously need to do some more research if you think your data will disappear. Just because a method uses Odin, doesn't mean starting from scratch.
Lastly, you posted a question in the General forum rather than the Q&A forum. Come on now.

Try some from the Play Store.
Since it looks like you want to stay on that leaked version (FC19), you will need to flash CWM and the modded stock kernel. It's in the dev section pages back. You'll have to search for it.
Otherwise the easier method would be to just start over and flash a custom rom. You'd odin CWM, boot to CWM and flash a rom.
Ok so i know i am a newbie to this sort of thing but i wanted to wrap my head around everything and also specifically to my phone before i decide to do something and the results are permanent.
Firstly ill start off with saying im a Canadian Virgin Mobile customer and i just got the Galaxy S4 (SGH-i337m).
Ok so i want to root my device but i am confused about some of the basic concepts. I saw the tutorial video posted for my specific phone by the smoking android (link for those who havent seen it: youtube. com/watch?v=cI9r5dEcNo4) and i understand that the rooting process is fairly simple.
What i am confused about though is my options once i am a root user and if i ever chose to revert back to original. Lets say i went ahead and rooted my phone. Will i be able to software update through the updates that virgin sends me? also if i am able to then will i maintain root acess?
my second biggest question is lets say for whatever reason i want to go back to the way my phone is now, with the stock virgin firmware. is this possible? and with no trace of the root before (is this the same as achieving original status instead of a custom one)? i know that you can remove the root and then reset the binary counter but im not too sure how all of this works, its a lot to take in at once.
im just trying to clear things up and yes i am quite new to all this (got my s4 yesterday) but i am a quick learner and im just trying to get a grip on everything.
thanks in advance for bearing with me

Why modem? is that really necessary, I think you mean kernel.
if you flash back to stock, modem and kernel will be included.
Have you tried this thread also? you do have a i337m

Will heimdall use the zip downloaded from sammobile or do you have to extract the .tar.md5 from the zip?

Im guessing that u are on MK2 and softbrick your phone by installing kitkat.....did u use Safestrap or TWRP to installed kitkat? If u are on MK2 Safestrap is the ONLY way to flash some 4.3 custom rom but not 4.4 rom yet.....If u can go to download ( Odin ) Mode, follow my thread.....u might be able to push i337MK2stockrecovery.tar.md5 .....flash with your own risk.....or there is work around guide from gtj0 that i edited on post#3 (Confirmed work) | ★ UPDATE.ZIP ★ | ►MF3★AT&T★MK2◄ | ★ UNBRICKED ★ | ★ Jan.01.2014 ★ | to Unbricked your MK2 phone back to stock.....Hope this help and Pm me if u need more help ......GoodLuck......hit THANK if i helped u ......
thanks muniz_ri, to be honest this is my first android phone. im used to ios and jailbreaking but ios is a little boring. im not sure of the firmware, im so aggravated at myself right now that i cant remember. i know it was on 4.3 and the last letters of the build were mk2. i know that dont help much and im sorry but like i said im new to the whole android scene. i did like it up to this point.
thanks also for replying ted77usa, heres what happened. i had the phone rooted and came across a thread that said kitkat for s4 and that it was safe for touchwiz phones. i followed all the instructions and installed safestrap, here is where i think i messed up, i installed the gappy and another apk file and installed it onto the stock rom slot instead of creating a rom slot to install to. now all odin will do is fail at writiing nand.

Everyone have to start somewhere at some point.....Here's what u need to do:
1. Download MF3>MK2 update.zip files.( save it inside your sd card )
2. Go to Post #3 and Download all the MK2_UNBRICKED_METHOD guide files....mf3 emergency part 1 and 2 ......recovery.mj6.tar.md5 files....skip update mj9>mk2 coz u gonna replace that update files to MF3>MK2 in the end anyway......
3. Reboot your phone to Download/ODIN mode (VolDown+Home+Power) and start flashing mf3 emergency files( follow guide )...
4. When u stuck at Download/ODIN mode between step 6 and step 7 ......U need to flash recovery.mj6.tar.md5 .....and force your phone to stock recovery ( VolUp+home+Power ) check post#2 if u can't reboot to recovery for ODIN force reboot.tar file.....
5. Apply update via external sd card ( make sure MF3>MK2 update.zip are inside your sd card )........if this doesnt work....Check post#2 for adb files that u need in order to do adb sideload
Code:
[B][COLOR="Red"]adb sideload update.zip[/COLOR][/B]
6. Welcome back to MK2......
7. Hit THANK if this work......GOODLUCK......PM me if u need more help.....:good:

Glad that all worked out for u.......I'm just giving back what I learned from this great community. ....i hit couples bump before too. U should re root using root method from OP on my thread. ..... or u can try kingo method since kingo thread are opened and allowed on XDA again. ...... either way I think both work. I personally like to do nandroid back up from recovery in this case Safestrap recovery. .... it would restore everything phone, contact, mms, and all the phone set up that u made earlier. ...... but TB also worked. ..... like my sig said. ....back up .....flash with your own risk. .... if I helped u .... hit THANK button. .....
