Recently I have bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab. I'm quite afraid to screw the OS up. So, I was wondering, is there a way to make a restore point?

Rotobackup is your best option at present, but it is a manual process.

+1.
If you intend to start going into rooting/flashing customs via odin/heimdall.
Guess 1st thing to learn to do is a stock backup.
What about creating a backup using CWM guys? Does Rotobackup do the same thing or better?

In order to make a Nandroid backup, you need to have already flashed a new kernel your Tab to install CWM. Rotobackup is the best way to make a backup prior to doing anything this "drastic".

Dave
Aha... Thanks, Dave.
Thought as much. Guess I was just being daft.
But once flashed with CWM, which would you prefer?
What happens when during flashing CWM, something happen? You wouldnt have any backup/stock rom to fall back on.

CWM thereafter.

I don't know if a Nandroid backup is what you would do for a Droid 2, I'm new here, coming from an Eris.
I wanna backup all of my stuff so that if I flash a ROM and something goes wrong, or if I deodex my phone, I can just revert to a backup.
Thanks!
Yes. If you install Droid 2 Bootstrap, and boot into the clockworkmod recovery, you can make a backup that you can use if you mess up your phone
Know of a guide I can look off of to install the Droid 2 Bootstrap?

You can buy the one off the market or google the free version. The free version is on Koush's blog.

does this mean people will start developing roms?
dnt know.. i been waiting. but i guess it takes awhile to develop a rom
its Gingerbread tho....what can possibly be modified? i guess if we can get HTC SENSE UI that would be awesome!!
I think it's more possible to get TouchWIZ (Samsung's UI) than the HTC Sence...
cause Nexus S is very similar to Galaxy S...
I also like a lot the HTC Sence and it would be awesome to have it in the Nexus S...
still kinda shocked htc shy'ed away from building the nexus2(s) or w/e they want to call it lol!!
Any of you able to do a backup within Rom Manager? For some reason I can't.

Short answer, yes.
Had to flash it twice to get it to reboot into recovery. Like the orange.

Hmm... odd.
Ill try to do a backup, it'll look like its about to start, than the screen goes black, and the phone just rebooted its self. I wonder what it could be?
I left my bootloader unlocked. Think that may have something to do with it?

I fixed it. I removed the app, than reinstalled. Worked fine, and I was able to do my backup.
flashed from clockwork rom mgr...twice...and each time, when I try to boot into recovery, it hangs on google screen. flashed back to previous version.
thoughts?
is there a link to download the 3.0 version directly? or a fix for this problem? i love clockwork and greatly appreciate the work, but i've always had problems flashing recoveries directly from the app. i always have to utilize fastboot.
anyways, someone have a dl link for 3.0.0...?

No, that would be absolutely horrible. Sense (and the other skins) are a plague on the Android community, and hopefully Honeycomb eliminates all need for them.
When I try to do a backup it rebooted into the recovery but then it says that it can't mount the SD? Any ideas? (Installed through rom manager premium)

is there a safe way to flash that back up, or an update.zip from an OTA to return to stock?

Well, I think at least, you should not purely restore the nandroid backup as it will flash the kernel without running itsmagic.
For the other part, better let other gurus to answer
Thats my concern. ill just wait, not like its 100% needed now but i just wanted to know a way out of my situation, if there is one!

I think if you flash one of the full packages you should be fine since it contains everything needed to take the tablet back to stock.

Will this stock rom also contain the stock recovery image or will that have to be flashed seperately with running itsmagic?

oh this sounds great...
so fallback to (maybe) a fallback backup of your old firmware or (more likely) fallback to a specific firmware ?

Hey guys,
I'm looking to throw CM7 on this atrix I just picked up but would like to have an option to return to the stock build. From the instructions I read, is it as simple as making a backup of my current stock ROM from within CWM?
Any help or direction is appreciated. Thanks.
Take a look of fruitcakes in developing secyion.

Hmm thanks for pointing that out. So should I want to revert back I would simply install the 2.3.4 zip with my appropriate radio through CWM?
You can create your own fruitcake, look here:

Or you could do the same with 2.3.5.zip (and 2.3.5webtop.zip if you care). This is a rooted stock 2.3.5. Not real diff from 2.3.4 but some better AFAIAC.
One hint. Whatever you choose go ahead and get it on the sdcard. Sbricks happen and it will save you some angst if all you have to do is CWM install zip.

Yes, just backup from CWM then restore if you want to revert back. It's that simple.
I guess this is a rookie question but here goes. I have a d801 that is rooted running CM nightly. It has the echo bug and I need to go back to stock. I have a nandroid backup in twrp from just after I rooted. Do I just need to hit the restore button on that? Is there anything else I need to do?
Sorry for the basic question, I tried searching but was not clear on exactly what I need to do.
I guess it will remain a mystery.
