[Q] Knox - Root - Hide-Root - Swapping Internal-external SD - keep LearningVideo-HUB - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. I am asking specific questions and I expect answers to those questions...
No opinions, no other tips like how to use app to SD in options...
2. It will benefit everyone of only people write here that have something to contribute
- A new way of doing it
- own experiencis or if they really know about it
Years ago XDA was a place where it was easy to learn and find answers, because 90% of posts were relevant
now you have to go through hundreds of irrelevant posts to get an answer... please guys

SO questions to fellow geeks who did it or tried (rooting and binding)
I cant answer myself right now -earliest in one or two weeks
1. Root - is there a reliable hide root option - or even temporal deactivation method that will work with Samsung Learning/Video hub and Screen mirroring - or other option to make them work (there is one for Screen mirroring with root)
2. Will hiding root / temporarily deactivating interfere with swapped Internal/external SD card on Note 3 / Note 10.1 LTE 2014
3. Or is there even an other solution for this problem I havent thought of (NO answers about app to SD kindergarden stuff)

Root de la vega no longer works without tripping knox on the latest bootloader / firmwares.
And this is the new thread for it.
Invalidating all of your other questions.

Might as well provide adequate detail and sufficient information.
What firmware are you running currently, and what is your bootloader version?

I find it funny you open yet another thread and place half your comments directed towards me.
If you have issues better to have left it in the last thread. Yet you bring it here in another one talking like I am stupid and know nothing about my note 3.
You could have just said your looking for a and b.
Leave the insults out. Your insulting people before they can even begin to read the statement.
I know you will respond and give some more clatter but I don't really care.
You just need official as a status to use Samsungs all share/link services. This can be applied with expose.

I'm a noob, so sorry in advance...

I just rooted my phone (thank you xda for making it super easy!) however, now I'm a little freaked out about what I've done.
I basically rooted so that my phone is speedier. I have no idea, in the area of ROMs or customizing, what else rooting can do. I'm not asking for help in doing those things, because like I said, I just want my phone to be speedy.
But now I'm a tad worried (due to a "beware" response I received on another forum) that I've opened up a portal for someone to access my accounts, contacts, etc. through apps on the phone. Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, but in this arena, I suppose I am!
I just want to make sure that having the Super User permissions that I didn't just open an security threat that I'm not equipped to deal with.
Thanks for any help or suggestions (even if your suggestion is to unroot). Like I said, please go easy on me...I have no idea what I'm doing, lol.
i dont think rooting/superuser give any access to threats that you were not already exposed to.
someone please correct me if im wrong.
as far as what to do now with root, there is a sticky here in general with things to do with root. we are wating for Roms

You are correct.
Ignore the ignorant.
You have root = you have power. You control what your phone does. Don't download apps asking for permissions they should not need... you asked a good question so Im not worried about you being an idiot... just dont be stupid.
That said, take advantage of root. I put my suggestions in the sticky at the top.
Thank you. I will be sure to read the sticky...
I don't think I'm an idiot, just not very savvy with Android. Yet.
I am very diligent as far as doing my research, but this is a tough subject as 1/2 the information I find says one thing, and the other 1/2 contradicts it.
I'm truly not ignorant, or at least I'm attempting not to be, as I have read up on this. I just don't know what to do with the conflicting information.
root does not inherently open you to security threats.
but you said you 'rooted' to make the phone speedier, so did you just root, which has really no effect on speed or did you do a lag fix? the lag fixes won't cause a security problem, but from what i understand, ext2 will corrupt over time so that's not 'safe'. i think some of the lag fixes check for this, but there are so many now, i stopped keeping up on them.
if you just did root and remove some stock bloat, then don't worry. just actually read everything you do from the dev community and apps, and ask questions if you are unsure and you should be fine. definitely check out the sticky, though. lots of great stuff there.

I did do the lag fix too, but I don't think it was the ext2 one. I could be wrong though (and probably am). I found it here, RyanZa's One Click Lag Fix APK.
So you think it's something I should uninstall now, or just be aware of the issues with it for the future? (Sorry, again, if that's a ridiculous question. I honestly just thought that was part of rooting.)

I wasn't calling you ignorant at all. I was calling the people that were telling you that you would be open to your data being compromised. Root just gives you the control over your phone. Not others.

that's what i figured. that's what people were 'warning' about. there are a couple versions of the lag fix.
if it's this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760267
then i think you'll be fine. i think as long as the one you are using runs e2fsck on boot, you should be fine.

Ya rooting(gaining root access) really has nothing much to do with making the phone speedy especially on Vibrant right now. An average user shouldn't even feel the need to root the phone.
The article that you have seen is most likely to clear the misconception of rooting is necessary for all Android phones.
I used the one that the link ends in 760571 (sorry, since I'm a noob I'm not able to post links yet)
I think they are the same, just a different thread?

I'm totally the average user but I knew I had to root to speed things up a bit with the lag fix. I would unroot and undo the lag fix, since I'm obviously in WAY over my head (lol), but I'm just as scared to do that as I was to root in the first place!

[Q] Xperia play root.

Hi guy,
want to know if it possible to root my xperia play without unlocking the bootloader and my phone detail is as below.
Android - 2.3.3
Model: R800i
Thanks
It's completely possible if you use the flashtool OTA method. There are multiple threads about it. It doesn't require unlocking the bootloader.
Sent from my R800
Basically you have to use flashtool to revert back to 2.3.2, run gingerbreak or whatever tool to to get root access, and then do OTA to go back to 2.3.3. It only works with ota, if you use our pc companion you will loose root again
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
is there a risk that i might brick my phone using flashtool to revert back to 2.3.2? also will all my file in the phone or sd card will be wiped out completely after flash back to 2.3.2?
thanks

yes you can
I really don't understand why people don't just answer questions for people on forums like these. Obviously he should've used the search, but that doesn't make his question invalid. You can save him some time and confusion by answering his question directly, I'm sure it would've taken just as much time as it would to type out "USE THE SEARCH."

Hahah I have been biting my lips in saying the same
There's a reason I said "there are multiple threads about this"
This question keeps getting asked over and over by people who don't bother looking at other threads or using google.
One or two of them actually contain instructions written by me personally.
It gets annoying when people expect you to write a whole guide for them, when they were too damn lazy to look beforehand.

I agree but you don't have to read them or respond to them if they get on your nerves? If you must then simply post a link to the forum rules or search results.
Searching forums can be time consuming and a pain as the information required is usually lost in a mass of irrelevant threads or posts like these.
Instead of flaming the noobs the posts should be removed or helpful answers provided so when these threads also show in the search results it does not waste peoples time.
Remember just because you don't want to take the time repeating yourself or replying to these posts don't mean other members with knowledge and time on their hands feel the same.

Write Protection unexpectedly restored after 4.4.4 update. Root survived

Yesterday I updated to 4.4.4 (root still works, SuperSU survival enabled)
The problem is that Xposed Mod doesn't work anymore. It looks like write protection reenabled after update (checked it via PC and adb shell command)
Is there a way to fix that?

The write protection? Not at this time, unless you have an unlocked bootloader. Perhaps someone will come up with an exploit that will turn write protection off on 4.4.4, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I have an unlocked Developer Edition on 4.4.4 with root and WP off, but on my day-to-day Maxx, I'm still at 4.4 with root and WP off and I've frozen MotorolaOTA and Updater to prevent any OTA's from sneaking in.

I'm in the same situation. If you install/update xposed, then cancel the reboot and choose soft reboot, xposed will work. It took several attempts the first time for it to take, but eventually did. The down side is every time your phone shuts off or reboots, you have to reinstall and soft boot. Also, and this may be only me, but about one a day every app crashes at once and forces me to reboot and reinstall xposed. I'm assuming it's because of the framework not being properly written to the system. It's a pain in the butt, but xposed is worth it to me, so I've been dealing with it. Good luck

Not you but the general attitude in this device's forums lately are sad. Yes people ask the same questions a lot, yes it's annoying for those of us that read everything, however you can't assume that everyone reads every post in every thread. It's very easy to just chuckle at the repeat offenders and move along. Beating people down because they asked a question that was already answered on page 45 of 79 in another thread is just as lazy as them not looking for the answer to begin with.

No it is not and if you don't like the attitude of the devs in this forum then feel free to step up and make your own exploits.
Rule number 1 of the forum rules sticky is "search before posting". It is very appropriate to call someone out when they blatantly disregard those rules.
Don't get butthurt on someone for knowing the rules and trying to cut clutter.

VZ replacement S5 on OE1

Just received a replacement device from VZ and its already on OE1. All the threads I've seen show this to be unrootable (at the moment). When root techniques come out, I'm curious where they they "are" while working toward a workable solution. Would like to see what progress is being made and if there is any way to know "are we there yet" before we get there.
BTW - Thanks VZ!

It's a yes or no question. The answer is no. You are asking for a maybe, when it's a no. If all the threads say it's unrootable, what makes you think making another thread will change that fact? Read the following if you want to know why:

Root mostly comes from sources off of XDA. Very few attempt solutions in threads on XDA because of the constant "are we there yet?" posts. Most developers work in private chats.

Dude, get over yourself. OE1 isn't rootable and probably never will be. He gave you the answer. Too bad for you that it's not the answer you're looking for. Stop asking and accept that. All you can do is watch the thread and hope someone decides to work on it (good luck with that). You're asking for an update on something that doesn't exist. There is nowhere to follow development on it, like the MOD said, it's in private chats. Private means you're not invited, mostly because they don't want amateurs asking questions every minute. Just let it go and stop getting unnecessarily defensive when you get info you don't like!:good:

I respond because I like helping people and providing useful contributions as one should try to do when participating in a forum.
You say my post has no value, yet when I say your thread has no value, suddenly I'm an ass? Such hypocrisy. Not only does my post it address all of your questions, your theoretical maybe and your question of remaining the same for all eternity, it does more.
Even if this thread is "useful" to you in terms of information, not only have I provided you with sufficient theorycrafting which makes perfect logical sense (feel free to correct me if I am wrong), but you are looking for updates to a yes or no question, therefore, you are not providing any usefulness to those developers who may (yet very unlikely, see my links) still be working on root. Rather, you are bugging them. Your thread is useless, you only see my post as useless because the permalinks weren't working, which I fixed. Yet you still reply, and obviously didn't read the post because that post answers your question that you asked me after.
Also, you posted in the wrong section, in which, your thread was answered multiple times. Not only did I respond to you with valuable information, I originally said nothing about your faults. The moderator has moved your thread and has given you the same TL;DR answer I gave you. So you are still asking for a maybe to a yes or no question, which is currently no. So explain to me again, who is the one being rude here?

Your last reply is the only one which is slightly helpful... Odd you make snarky comments then get offended when others do the same. I didn't ask if it is rootable ( which would be a yes/no question), I asked something else. Your premise the post required a yes/no answer is a misunderstanding of the question. Clearly you don't know the answer, and that's OK. Why piss and moan about me not liking your snarky comments. If you're going to dish it, be ready to take it.

You also seem to be of the opinion something which doesn't exist today cannot possibly exist in the future. Nice logic...

Snarky comments? Are you talking about yourself? Look at your first response. I've even underlined it for you. Now look at the second underline. That's what you asked. And I answered your question in detail, in those links, which I'm sure you haven't read, because you wouldn't be continuing your redundant discussion. Even the moderator answered your question, and you still are insistent on pursuing a different answer just because you don't like it.

You need to read what the moderator wrote in post #3. I've quoted it below in case you missed it or just have reading comprehension problems. There is nowhere for you to read about the progress of developers working on root for this phone because if it is being worked on, the work is being done in private chat rooms which you won't be able to access. That is because they don't want to be bothered with the exact kind of "Are we there yet?" questions you are asking in this thread. And I will reiterate what has already been written in this thread. It is highly likely no one is working on root for this phone now, and it is highly unlikely anyone will be working on root for this phone anytime in the near future. You may not like the answer you are getting, but it is the only answer to your question at the present time.
This thread is as close as you are going to get to what you are asking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...lausible-to-jtag-to-rewrite-unlocked-t3184952
And the OP in that thread is technically not working on root for the phone, just an experimental and risky thought on a way to bypass the locked bootloader.

Root mostly comes from sources off of XDA. Very few attempt solutions in threads on XDA because of the constant "are we there yet?" posts. Most developers work in private chats.

He likes ignoring facts too, but I answered this in his other thread about petitioning for the FCC to unlock the bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62406501&postcount=4
or as quoted here:
Spartan117H3 said:

Which would nullify his entire thread of him trying to brick to unlock the bootloader.
Considering he's having "issues" bricking the phone... he doesn't have enough knowledge, just free time on his hands. He's probably going to just waste time soft bricking his phone.
But there's a simple logical explanation. If you have to unlock the bootloader to write unsigned code, i.e. a bootloader/custom rom, how would writing an unlocked bootloader work? That's like asking, how do you get the key to unlock a safe (if the key is inside the safe) so you can get your money? Replace a safe with an unlocked one? What happened to the money? Edit: on second thought, this is a slightly bad analogy, replacing the safe would be like getting the unlocked dev edition, but it still should get the point across.
He may as well just try flashing all the developer edition roms to his non dev phone (Note to new people: DO NOT do this), because those are all "unlocked firmware", exactly what he's trying to do.
He seems bent on arguing semantics, which is why I went back and forth with him but eventually stopped in his petition thread. But he's not rude like this guy, he just has a mindset that says, this is what I feel the answer should be, so it should work no matter what.

sprint S7 edge root? kingroot?

Hey guys,
Got my S7 edge (about to activate, very excited!).
Curious if there are any root methods available?
I've seen the S7 kingroot page, although I haven't seen much on these forums about it. Anyone have any insight?
From reading other areas there is no root at this time. Some have tried king root and it failed
True that. Just got my S7 edge too. Way too early for root and roms lol
Should NOT have been too early for root!
Root on Samsung has for a long time been easy since the bootloader is unlocked, and Chainfire has a solution that works after just a little work, mainly getting the correct standard recovery image.
The Snapdragon-based S7 and S7 Edge, sold in the US, has a locked bootloader. This means no root until/unless some busy developer finds an exploit (and then likely no custom recovery/backup).
Tweet @Samsungmobileus and (sprrint users) @marceloclaure early and often - bad press (and returned phones) will hopefully trigger a reverse, or an unlock mechanism like HTC has used in the past.
Hey guys, what about this video??? youtu.be/GNInTlCpv8E
I dont have pc in this moment so... yes... I cant check... would appreciate if somebody try....

So... if I *understand this correctly* the IS a ROOTing process for locked US based Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile phones WITH A LOCKED BOOTLOADER?
Cheers!

Read the forum rules. Rule 1 specifically.
Post the link to the forum rules and quote rule 1 and I'll give you the link with instructions of how to root. :good:

No i cant find it because I ended up here only to read your useless blithering flame because you apparently failed to read the rules yourself.
real hackers don't read rules unless they want to flame you back for wasting their time.
Can we please remove this entire post and issue warnings/reprimands for Binary100100 and my self for violation of rules:

Yeah, it is usually the top post under the guide, news, and discussion section. It says "SM-G935P Root - Updated 08/15/2016"

If you can find the rules but not the links to root then perhaps you just proved my point? You can root your phone. You are very welcome to do so. But failing to take 15 minutes to read and research for yourself (like a "real hacker" would do) you will almost certainly regret it later. Personally, I know that you capable of finding the guide because you found the forum rules and even found this forum yet you state that you can't find the guide. Sorry (not really though) but thats just lazy and I find that rather impossible otherwise. But sure. I'll take reprimand for calling it like it is and refusing to spoon feed lazy wannabe "hackers." Speaking from experience when I say that nothing happens with infractions anyway. At most you're only hurting the community by limiting the assistance by a senior member. Right? But anyway, I won't spoonfeed because all it does is congest this forum with repeated questions and cries for help by people that won't take the time to use the resources that XDA is known and loved for. Yet members like myself have dedicated THOUSANDS of hours to helping members which are truly in need... and they're not even "hackers!" Because at least they've tried. But like you said... "real hackers don't read... " so I won't be wasting any time on helping you or anyone else that continues to take this forum for granted then have the balls to try to call a senior member out on discipline when you clearly know nothing about it.
So... I'm just going to dismiss your worthless bantering as I would any other troll and wish you best of luck.
PS
Even my signature has a HOW TO ROOT guide link in it! That was to try to help people like you. Yet you still manage to complain.
I found it, it just make me mad when people like binary like to ramble on so much and i had to visit his post instead of the guide I wanted.
I don't know why his post came right up when I was searching.
I rooted my phone now i am having trouble un-rooting, lol. I think it was because I switched like day one from g930P "sprint" to g930u, it was great until I rooted, now I can't un-root.
There is some data for you binary, see if you can hit 2000 words this time slacker!
Why don't both you knock off the sophomoric BS and get along. We don't need quoted rules. Either report or ignore. BOTH OF YOU need to heed rule 47 which reads "Come on now, really?"
No more of this stupidity please.
