I dropped mine in a toilet and luckily its still working. Probably better than before
What carrier are you with. For example with At&t you can try bringing it to a warranty repair store and if its under a year of ownership they will help you even maybe replace it with a refurbished one.
thanx
thank you for replying but insurance doesnt cover water damage besides i am not in the us i am in jordan middeast
nothing we can do.

Lame. The TEP for verizon covers all of that stuff now. Sorry for your bad luck man

You can try ripping it down and soaking it in as close to 100% alcohol you can get. Give it a little clean down shake, let settle, repeat a few times, let dry 24-48 hours (remaining traces well dry fast) and see if it powers up. Slim slim chance, but worth a try. If your insurance covers lost phones...

So my room mate's Droid 2 got a little water damage.. The phone wont power on at all and gets hot if the battery is left in it.
Obviously a broken phone.. however the water damage indicator on the phone is not showing that it has been wet..
so my question is: How possible would it be that I could take the phone into Verizon and play stupid to try to get it replaced..?
My room mate has already called Verizon and got a new D2global sent to her and has no use for the old broken D2.
any input or advice is much appreciated thank you
1. Check, how old is your device (maybe garantee?)
2. Before you do anything, you should make sure, that the inside of the phone is dry. Therefore I advice to lay the phone on a little bit warm heater (not hot!!) without the battery (maybe this does the job already...).
3. If not, play silly at your seller...
... if phone doesn't start after drying, you should start it without the battery (with charging cable)... maybe just your battery is dead.
thanks for the reply. I have tried all the drying tricks.. even gone as far as taking the phone apart and inspecting the hardware.
im more just concerned about Verizon's policies and procedures.. if there happens to be any VZ reps or employees listening...??..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073929
*cough* I'm not advocating fraud
If your roommate got another phone sent to her as a replacement for the original that was dropped in water, then they will expect the defective device to be sent back. If it was an upgrade (meaning she paid money and/or agreed to a contract extension) then there is no expectation of VZW receiving any device back. After 5 days of her have the replacement they check for the device that is expected and charge the account full retail price (prolly around 6 hundies). That being said, if it isn't on any account, its not covered by warranty. Your best hope is to let it dry out completely (about a week or so in a dry place) and then try again to use it. Liquid damage will show in other places and they don't go only by the indicator sticker.
Play dumb.
Play dumb
Play dumb : ))

Thank you Bornthor, for your comment. You are correct; if the original device was replaced via the warranty, or via the Equipment insurance program, it does need to be returned within 5 days of receipt. If it is not returned, then the line will be charged a non-return fee. This fee is based upon the full retail cost of the device, which is over $500.00. Upon receipt of the replacement, a free shipping label was included, in order to return the device with no out-of-pocket cost.
I would strongly recommend not using this device on a different line, since your roommate will be charged for it. Once the charge is on the line, it cannot be removed until that same specific device is returned.
I hope this information is helpful for you. Have a great day!

I accidentally laid my droid2 face down on a wet nightstand a while back (after a long night of drinking). Woke up with water under the screen. I had an old broken droid2 laying around and I was able to transplant the motherboard from the wet one into the old screen/keyboard assembly. You might try doing something similar with the d2g if nothing else works.
Good luck!

Lol.. did you think you got a free phone?...
I know that if you take the phone into the store and have them make a warrenty exchange they wont charge you. The tech needs to inspect the phone befor it is exchanged. If you play dumb at this point and they dont pick up that there was water damage then your going to be ok. Yes when you call in then send the phone in, theres a good chance that you will be charged, and its bull how much verizon charges for these phones now.
I've been told that placing phone with water damage in a bag of rice overnight helps remove moisture from the phone. Just make sure your remove the battery and the cover from the back. Hope that helps somewhat.

Got a new guitar yesterday so we were sitting around outside testing it out. Had the tablet on a table next to a nearly-full can of Mountain Dew. When someone sat down, apparently the tablet was pushed into the can which knocked it over right on top of the tablet, spilling Dew all over it.
Wiped it off, and noticed it turned itself off. Wouldn't turn back on. Set it in front of a fan for a couple hours standing up, tried it again and it turned on, however there appears to be liquid between the LCD and the piece covering the screen.
Glad it still works, but hoping someone will have a disassembly guide soon so I can (gently) clean the internals...
I hope you're aware that the 3 main ingredients in Mountain Dew are sulfuric acid, urine & caffeine. That can do some nasty damage.

You're not suppose to turn a device on after getting wet. I put it on uncooked rice overnight to take the moisture out and then turn it on but glad to hear your tab still works.

I got my warranty through SquareTrade. They have an option to choose a higher plan which covers spills & screen damage. You have to purchase the warranty within 30 days of your purchase date. It was cheaper than the plan from BestBuy, & covers more. Doesn't cover theft though.

does square trade provide international warranties?
If not does any one know who does?
This wasn't purchased so I couldn't really get a warranty on it. It was a freebie from Google/Samsung at IO.
I know better than to turn it on when it's wet, but it was already on when it got liquid spilled on it, so didn't see how it could cause more damage trying to turn it on.

I did the same thing. Its 100$ for 2 years - it was 54.99 for the warranty and 45.00 for the spills and accidental damage. I think its a great deal especially that there is no deductible.

This works well, when all you are dealing with is water, or some other liquid that is not full of chemicals and sugars..
While the rice acts as a desiccant, it will draw out the moisture, but leave behind crystallized sugars and other sticky goodness.
Unfortunately, there is no good solution to cleaning out soda from things.. other then to do the best job you can, and live with whatever is left over.
Sorry to be a nag, but stupid is as stupid does. Just cuz u got it for free doesn't mean you should treat it as such.
Either way yahoo recently had an article testing the rice theory with 3 cellphones, only one of them ever turned back on so that is bunk.
I would be surprised if Ifixit.com hasn't done a teardown yet

I'm neither stupid nor do I treat my electronics poorly, free or not.
I'm glad you've never had an accident, but pull your all-mighty head out your ass. Stuff happens. I'm have been a geek for a long, long time. Never have I spilled a drink on any of my electronics until last night. You can see I've been on these forums for quite a long time, way longer than Android has been around.
And yes, the rice thing is useless.
OP, go to squaretrade.com and purchase a warranty right now. If you search around, you can find some 10-30% off codes. But, you'll be covered for everything including spills and drops. Wait a month and send it in. I believe there is no deductible, too.
EDIT: After typing that, I just remembered yours is an IO. Call them up and see if they can offer you something. Their customer service is exceptional. I plan to get a warranty of the kal-el version of this when it releases.

Square trade is awesome. They have, imo, the best warranty solutions anywhere. Dont ever buy store brand warranties as there are so many limitations.
The Square trade ones are not only cheaper, but cover more. I highly recommend it.

Same here, I spent $10 on ebay to get a temp case until case makers get get the damn cases out. I plan on either getting the Kraken or the Defender. *I prefer the kraken but I don't know if it will have a built in screen protector*

Not to worry OP
The rear camera on this should be extremely easy to replace. You'll just have to wait a few more weeks until that part begins to make it's way out to us. You should be able to make the phone look just like new and it shouldn't cost more than $40 including tools.

oh geez, not what i was hoping to hear....is this normal for the screen to not function once the glass is cracked?
My Nexus 4 met it's demise at Subway next to my work. I found a display/digitizer replacement for less than $90 including shipping and sales tax. Look around, you'll find cheaper places just make sure you buy from a reputable merchant.
Make sure the quality is good as well.

Yeah, it's known for the screen to not work after it cracks. Next time don't forget to get a case. You never know when your phone will fall and break. A good tpu case will provide protection during accidental falls.

Hello, forum
I recently dropped my Nexus 4 in water. The battery was screwed, so I took it to the LG service center. They replaced the battery, but that didn't help, though it did shut off the red light. The phone showed no response at all. So, I just purchased the battery from them (no international warranty) and have decided to clean up the logic board properly. Would anyone recommend using rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl alcohol) for that? I have the whole thing disassembled and am waiting for the rubbing alcohol.
Please help. I'm getting a bit desperate here.
Regards
Raptor
UPDATE: I cleaned the motherboard up properly with 70% isopropyl alcohol. I let it dry up properly and wiped it clean using lint free microfiber cloth. I then packed it back up to check for boot, but nothing. I've left the phone connected to the charger. What should I do? Any help?
Have you considered ordering a replacement mainboard?

I did consider that. Here in India, the LG service center is charging almost $200 for it. It's available for around $100 online, but I'll have to wait for my brother to get it in December.

Hi raptor402!
Seems we both share the same problem. I too got my Nexus drenched in rain and the mainboard is screwed. LG service center (here in India) quoted INR 11k for the board. $100 is an amazing price. Would you please share the link?
We could consider shopandship if getting it from the US is a problem. Please let me know what you did if you have already solved the problem.
Thanks.
