Since about 2 months, my HTC HD2 sometimes runs into a strange behavior.
It's like some invisible fingers are touching the screen very quickly, triggering apps, menus, and sometimes calling people!
The only way to stop that is to restart the phone (but when the HD2 starts to behave that way, it's difficult to restart it, as these "invisible fingers" are still competing with MY fingers!).
I don't know what caused the problem in the first place, and I don't know what triggers the problem when it happens.
Is my HD2 out of order?
Thanks
Gz
It could be that your touchscreen is too sensitive and your sweat from your fingers is triggering it; Did you try cleaning the screen, your hands and using a screen protector?
your digitizer is going to die very soon
By "digitizer", you mean the touch glass?
Did it happened to you before?
Why so many of your phones had their glasses cracked?
Thanks

It's very probable to happen...
Try to massage the screen around the corners especially above the buttons.
There is some kind of "glue" to prevent contact with metal but if its old or used it could make this problem.
Maby you can trigger it or at least find the point where to press to make it stop.
=> using a heating fan (warm not hot!) to vaporize water could help too maby. No warranty here!
dertester123 you may have found the real cause of the problem, but I'll have to test more before I can confirm.
Cheers.

i have been having the same problem lately and i must say, i'm pretty sure it's about the sweaty fingers! i have read on other sites that the capacitive (?) screen is too sensitive and that many are experiencing these problems, especially during summer!

Just place some waterdrops on the display or use it with fingers that you put some lotion on....
Problem is when it gets under the display, but thats rather uncommon i hope;D
I case its just just sweaty fingers, what are pants for?
I have the same problem but it only happens in my music app. Could this be causedby a virus of some sort?

are you running android ics? In ics they changed the input slightly i heard, and maby its not ported correctly...
When using another music app or switching to generally other apps while music plays everything is okay?
I dont think its a virus or something, most of them want to spy or change userdata and not annoy you
I thought I had found the cause of my problem, but I can't confirm it, as this problem hasn't appeared since the middle of May, when I followed dertester12's advice to massage the screen on the corners!
But I noticed a spot in the middle of my touch screen where the "glass" seems to "touch" or to be glued to something underneath it. This spot is till here today, but despite of that, the problem is not occuring now. I'll try to attach photos of that.
So to sum it up, I'm still not sure about what caused the problem...

I'll dig out the topic.
Hangsheng I have the same problem as described at the beginning, but mine handset had replaced touchscreen with lcd panel.
What it could be the cause of this behaviour?

Well the touchscreen must be isolated from the display. Therefore they put some blue glue at the area over the buttons where the HTC logo is. For me I used alcohol to clean the touchscreen as I replaced it and had the problem that when pressure was added the layer of glue was to thin to isolate and gave me fake inputs.
You can test by massaging this area.
Also the contacts on the backside of the screen must be isolated to the housing and the screen. I could think that when you soldered the stock isolation thinned out too..
Last but not least touchscreen, display and housing must be grounded correctly. Therefore all parts are wrapped in metallic foil at the edges... To connect them..
As the touch screen is very sensitive to even little currents its often hard to find the problem as it could also be a totally different cause.
All the above mentioned points should be checked and are relatively easy to fix. But it needs total disassembly what - especially to old devices- has a risk.
Risks are:
That damn flex cables are old and tend to break. The buttons have small tapes on top that come off easily and never go back again... And many more things that break when dis- and reassembled to often.
Sometimes it's cheaper to sell defect HD2 and buy new/used one..
On eBay you often get very good prices for defective HD2..

I lost my stock s-pen and bought an original replacement.
It's treating my device like a resistive screen not capacitive.
Meaning my screen will only register input from the pen if I push down hard on the screen.
Gliding it across the screen does nothing. I need to literally push down to get it to do anything.
What's going on?
..you mean this is not normal behaviour?
I need a new S-Pen, my Life is a Lie.
no. supposed to act like a capacitive.

did you buy a real spen? just making sure it is original
have you tried the usual workarounds like recalibrating the spen (setting orientation of spen from left handed then back to right handed, and touching the four corners of the screen)?
normally loss of screen sensitivity is a hardware issue of the digitizer/lcd panel and not of the spen.
hope you resolve the issue
the spen isn't a capacitive stylus.. it works on separate electromagnetic hardware detection. even mine needs slight pressure to work and i think it's normal behavior.

Hmm because the stock one required much less pressure.
Thanks anyways.

So it only works on pressure not touch?
So my fingers create a capacitive relation with the screen but the stylus creates a resistive?
My opinion is the s pen is inductive (magnetic field), not capacitive (electric field). Definitely not resistive because I can hover above the screen and see the s pen cursor move.

So what are you saying? Is a mere touch (capacitive) enough or pressure necessary (resistive)?

neither. it works due to the specific pen hardware. It's Inductive. The note has the ability to handle capacitive and inductive inputs (but not resistive)
Is this an official s pen replacement? people have used non-spen wacom styluses on the note with no ill effects. might just be a dodgy replacement.

Well it's behaving like its resistive. I need a good amount of pressure.
It's an original Samsung stylus.

I'm not "saying" a fact. I am giving an "opinion" or guess. I'm trying to figure out how the phone knows where the pen is without touching and how the pen gets power. A pickup coil in the pen like those non touch inductive chargers seems to explain everything.

There is actually a thread here on XDA discussing the S-Pen's technology over here with this specific post you might be interested in, about how to adjust the S-Pen's sensitivity.
I just had a glimpse on the thread, there for sure are even more good tips.

You are number one.
I didnt have the guts to do it but thanks.
if you're having problems with choppiness, light touches, or having to press hard for your pen to register a touch you can adjust the sensitivity easily.
this search for a fix started when i found my gn2 would stutter when getting into the "zone" and start randomly causing accidental touches. from the gn2 forums i found that the sensitivity can be adjusted via a potentiometer in the pen itself.
on my gn10.1 i found the pen too sensitive. in order to draw the thin lines i had to almost hover over the screen and in doing so i ended up with choppy thin lines. after decreasing the sensitivity i can now draw consistent thin lines after adding just a smidge of pressure.
to adjust the sensitivity you'll need to remove the cover of the click button. a razor should do the job. the fastener is on the back end (towards the samsung logo). a little upwards force and it'll pop off easily. after removing, you'll see two pots. the one on the left is the one you want to mess with (dunno what the one on the right does).
using a small screwdriver turn the pot clockwise 1/8 a turn at a time to decrease the sensitivity, counter clockwise for increase. find the setting that suits you the best and reassemble. this trick kept me from making a trip back to the sprint store and exchanging a phone (no replacement stylus yet).
How did you find out about that?
it was in the gnII forum. no pics there though. he just said pop off the button and adjust the left potentiometer. thought i'd elaborate a bit here.

yep, it just pops back on. put the little notch under the front (towards the pen tip) first then snap it back into place. i've done it with my gn2 and my gn10.1 s-pens so far. i'm pretty sure all wacom pens would be able to be adjusted the same.
Just another little tip while removing the button. Place a piece of scotch tape on the bottom portion of the button. The first time I removed it with a razor blade, it went flying towards the kitchen. Luckily it landed in a dirty glass instead of down the drain.
Great tip!!
Could you please show some photos of the button?
Thanks!

Oh this is great! I wonder if this will work with the Wacom pen we've talked about in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931137
I popped open mine, and the pots are side by side like in the Note Spen. Hm, I don't think the screwdriver I have for my eyeglasses is small enough though.
Don't own a screwdriver small enough. Will try getting one tomorrow. Since putting a screen protector on I find the s-pen less sensitive ; hopefully this will help.

I had an old Lenovo ThinkPad one where I had lost the button and used a rubber pen grip to use with my note when I first purchased it, the sensitivity and offset issue prevented me from using the pen and I had never thought about adjusting the potentiometers until I saw this thread.
I adjusted the sensitivity as detailed and it worked! I still had a problem with the offset where the pen had too much of a distance from nib to where it wrote so I thought to myself, maybe the second potentiometer that we were told not to adjust will resolve this problem and then thought that I've got nothing to lose with this old pen and gave it a shot.
I can confirm that the Pen now works flawlessly as the other potentiometer did indeed adjust the offset.
I now have a pen without the button for when I take intensive notes and no longer will be pressing the side button by accident which used to screw up my notes and was annoying, now it's a thing of the past!
If anyone wants to adjust the second potentiometer, my advise would be that you use the right size screw driver and make small adjustments, test and readjust as per the op.

Out of curiosity, does the continued and prolonged use of sweep2wake shorten the lifespan or damage the touchscreen panel? I have no knowledge in electrical circuitry and I'm wondering if anyone with knowledge on these panels can comment as to whether these touchscreen sensors were designed to be running 24/7 with no negative consequences.
Secondly, does the continued use of the same region, in this case, sweep2wake's bottom row, also affect the sensitivity /functionality of the region over time?

Of course swiping will wear on the panel. Friction causes physical wear. However, other components in your phone will wear out much more quickly so it's a moot point.

Doesn't the digitizer lie under the LCD? So wouldn't wear be directed onto that? I guess that doesn't answer the question of it constantly running.

That is what I am curious about, whether the digitizer is meant to be running 24/7 and how these things are tested in factory conditions.
keep in mind that with the N4, the screen display and digitizer are basically glued together so if one goes bad, you're replacing both. I wouldn't risk it for a minor convenience modification that takes away battery performance and other unknown possiblities.
it will "wear out" after time.
in your device's lifespan?
no. absolutely not.
It's pretty weird..
If my phone is laying down on my bed or desk or whatever, and I use my index finger, the upper right corner area doesn't respond well at all.. No matter how hard I press or how long.
BUT
When I pick my phone up, hold it in one hand and using the other ones index finger, it works ok. Holding it in one hand and using the thumb works well too.
It's as if the phone needs to feel the warmth of my palm to react to touch... How is that possible?
I am from the middle east. It's not cold now. My room is like 25C (78F)..
I really dont know if I'm fooling myself or if it's real.. I tried what I just described a lot of times. Even tried different angles of holding the phone (Not including screen rotation).
My phone was never dropped or even bumped. I am very careful with it.
I have a Nillkin tempred glass protector which I know hurt my sensitivity in general. But this issue is beyond that.
Any thoughs?
Anyone?
Just say what you think or experience yourselvs.
???
When my phone is placed on the bed, touch reactes badly. When I take it, in the same position, real quick, and place it on my pants, it works fine.
HOW???
I can't even think of a logical reason...

I assume you have a rooted phone. With the help of titanium backup you need to disable apps which you find running under settings>apps>running tab
Find the once you think are not needed by you on daily basis. You can also disable them from the same tab otherwise use titanium.
Our default governor is ondemand which means whenever a high demand comes it will adjust its speed according to activity so sometimes a mili seconds delay can cause the issue so change it to interractive and see if it help. I am afraid you have to try out these procedures and see which one auits you.
Also, if you think its the protector then youbshould remove it and test without it. Protectors are very cheap so you must test it
