[Q] Weird touch sensitivity issue [D802] - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's pretty weird..
If my phone is laying down on my bed or desk or whatever, and I use my index finger, the upper right corner area doesn't respond well at all.. No matter how hard I press or how long.
BUT
When I pick my phone up, hold it in one hand and using the other ones index finger, it works ok. Holding it in one hand and using the thumb works well too.
It's as if the phone needs to feel the warmth of my palm to react to touch... How is that possible?
I am from the middle east. It's not cold now. My room is like 25C (78F)..
I really dont know if I'm fooling myself or if it's real.. I tried what I just described a lot of times. Even tried different angles of holding the phone (Not including screen rotation).
My phone was never dropped or even bumped. I am very careful with it.
I have a Nillkin tempred glass protector which I know hurt my sensitivity in general. But this issue is beyond that.
Any thoughs?

Anyone?
Just say what you think or experience yourselvs.

???
When my phone is placed on the bed, touch reactes badly. When I take it, in the same position, real quick, and place it on my pants, it works fine.
HOW???
I can't even think of a logical reason...

Already tried it. It's not related to it.
I really can't even explain how weird this thing is..

Start disabling the apps which cause bloatware wakelocks like google plus, google location etc and try to have atleast 800-900 ram available.
Also install trickster mod from play and change your governor to interactive and see if this helps

I really doubt its a software or RAM\CPU clock issue...
Anyhow, can you explain more what to do? How do I disable the apps you said?
And how may the CPU governor be related to this?

These issues are never ending.. They will fix my screen and **** up my GPS or something..
It's like nothing can be perfect.
I will just stick to my "faulty" screen.. Although I think it's my Tempred glass protector who is causing the sensitivity problem.

I assume you have a rooted phone. With the help of titanium backup you need to disable apps which you find running under settings>apps>running tab
Find the once you think are not needed by you on daily basis. You can also disable them from the same tab otherwise use titanium.
Our default governor is ondemand which means whenever a high demand comes it will adjust its speed according to activity so sometimes a mili seconds delay can cause the issue so change it to interractive and see if it help. I am afraid you have to try out these procedures and see which one auits you.
Also, if you think its the protector then youbshould remove it and test without it. Protectors are very cheap so you must test it

KF Touchscreen Sensitivity Issues

Hello everyone,
I have been playing with my Kindle Fire, since I got it, and I am about ready to chuck it out the window, or just call Amazon for a new one, but I first wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions. My touchscreen is oversensitive. WAY oversensitive. Oversensitive to the point that if I have to type anything into the keybaord, I will be three letters in, the keyboard will close, and I will have to start over. So sensitive/messed up that when scrolling an article in landscape mode, using only my left hand to scroll, random links will click on the right side of the page. The opposite happens if I do it with my right hand. I like the device, and look forward to rooting it, and ICS goodness eventually, but I wanted to know I have a dud and need to return it, or if there is some hidden setting somewhere or what. I am open to trying anything. Side note: I also own a thunderbolt, and find its touchscreen too sensitive, but nowhere NEAR the KF. I am making sure to make deliberate presses and swypes, and trying to make sure no extraneous part of my hand interferes at all. (sometimes even using one hand to poke at the keyboard with the device sitting on the table will still produce the problems.)
Thanks for the help!
Brock
Hey Brock!
I've noticed that my screen is a little more sensitive than my epic 4g but not to the extreme you are talking about.
Perhaps your screen is bugged or something try calling amazon and see what they say.
Also as a side note try rubbing your hands over the screen smudge it up pretty good. Does that make a difference? I know it will look ugly but maybe there was a film or something on the screen. Just to test
*forgive any grammar or spelling mistakes I injured my right hand and it is hard to type with bandages *
Hi
I have a bunch of problems too. Mine is sensitive, and its sometimes a problem not overscroll, but yours seem to be extreme.
As a way out, if you have time drop by a BestB** and try it there, if yours is the same, not to much left to do....
I've been using mine all day and I don't even need to touch the screen. If I get my finger really close to the screen it reads as a touch. I'd say that's a tad too sensitive.

They are all like that. Its because the touch screen is capacitive. My Screen at work does that.

Same here, I feel like I have to push the screen really hard to get it to register. I hit the screen lightly and it does not register my touch. I'm used to my EVO 4g, maybe it is just a lot more sensitive than the fire.

Same here, but it's not as simple as it not registering the touch. Most times the button will animate to show I've touched it but nothing happens. It happens most often with the back button, but happens in the browser and some other apps occasionally. I've had some luck with slower more deliberate taps, but it seems like a software bug to me.

I was using my mom's so I could teach her how to use it, and see if I wanted one. Her was also not sensitive enough many times. It wasn't just that I am used to my Droid 2 because my mom who never used a touch screen before had the same issues. Sometimes it would take 3 or 4 taps to make it work. I just thought it was a bug that would be fixed. It was minor. I ordered my one, so on Tuesday I will see how mine is.
OP I say contact tech support immediately.
My screen is fine, the only problem I'm having is the menu gets pressed, it shows that it was pressed but nothing happens

The two kindle fires I've used have the same touchscreen issue: there is a jerk (along the longest direction of the screen) on touch down. Once the finger is down the reported position is fairly stable, but the initial touch down needs to be smoothed out (or the first few samples from the touch screen should be thrown out).
This causes most of the issues I've seen on mine, where pressing buttons is either inaccurate or they go down and come up without activating (because the touchscreen reported a touch down inside the button and then jerked out of the button area and reported a touch up).
I've spent way too much time on touchscreen drivers (way too much!) and this is a fairly common electrical issue, and the software workaround is fairly straightforward to implement in the kernel. It's surprising that Amazon shipped the device like this (as well as various SGX drivers issues on some apps), especially as every review mentioned it as an issue!
Anyway, once we can build and flash kernels reliably I'm sure we can fix most of the touchscreen issues.
My kindle too !!!
Because of this, I'm getting very stressed ㅠㅠ
It's a matter of the touch panel... would be fixed by software?
If this is not possible... Then I'll be selling the Kindle
I downloaded an app called ILITEK Touch Utility which appears to have made my touchscreen work better. It is in the Google Market.

I'll have to try that out, would be nice to tweak it some Thanks!
mine is not too sensitive, sometimes i have to press multiple times for it to register
Bumping this thread, because this issue is annoying the hell out of me. Those having the touchscreen not being sensitive enough, it's the same issue as those finding it too sensitive. The problem in reality is that it's ridiculously sensitive, and as your finger presses down on the screen, it's sometimes reading that as an attempt to swipe/scroll rather than a tap/press, which is why you see things light up still, but not launch.
This is frustrating me more and more as time goes on. I've tried this, which I can tell adjusts some of these settings but doesn't really make much difference for the problem. I've also tried this, which didn't help any after calibration.
Some people have speculated (or confirmed, for all I know) that this can be adjusted via the kernel. Does anybody know of anything that might help with this? It's so sensitive it's making me want to avoid the damned thing. I'm about ready to restore the stock ROM and give it to my sister as an early Christmas present.
The awesomeness that is Hashcode is working on 3.0 kernel over in the dev section. The kernel is still a work in progress and has come a long way. At the end he is apparantly going to update the touchscreen driver. I hope that will fix any said issues.

[Q] Touchscreen Unresponsive after reboot menu

My touchscreen becomes unresponsive after holding down the power button to get to the Phone Options where the Silent mode, Airplane mode, Choose Profile, Screenshot, Reboot , and Power Off options are located. The touch screen becomes unresponsive, I have to power off the screen for a few seconds and turn it back on and the touch screen will work again. It just started doing this 2 weeks ago. I have tried different roms and no difference. I have performed task 29 no difference, even after fresh installation of roms with no other apps installed
Im suspecting a worn digitizer but not sure because it only does it after phone opentions menu is opened, other than that the touchscreen works fine. Than again not sure if its a rom issue because it does it with different roms even older ones i never had problems before. I just know how to flash roms and basic stuff and not that far advanced
By the way I have the latest MGLDR, and recovery, have performed task 29 and even tried it with the SD card out and same result
Any help would be greatly appriciated especially if you have had this exact problem please i want to hear from you
Thank you
Broken flat cable from digitizer to mainboard.I had the same problem.
Was it expensive to fix? Or did you fix it yourself? Did you replace the cable, digitizer or just the cable? And thanks for the help

Sure he meant this, in order to make sense!
Solution: another touchscreen/digitizer or even better(but more expensive) new combo(lcd+touchscreen/digitizer)!
I have noticed that after it boots it will let me select an option from the the phone option menu but only when it is fresh of a boot, once the phone settles after a minute or two it's when the problem starts
For the meantime I'm using Quick Boot app from the market since that is the only thing it affects. I will check for prices to replace digitizer. I have seen the digitizers alone on Ebay going got around 10 bucks but I'm scared of the installation lol. I'm going to check the phone repair shop and check how they charge. If it's too much I'll just live with it since the Quick Boot app is working fine.
Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it and hopefully it can help somebody else with the exact problem

I highly doubt the board is bad. I already took mine apart, a collection of dust and dirt causes the end button to mess up the contacts. Your board is probably fine if you aren't experiencing overheating or any other symptoms, no offence, he probably just wanted more work to do so they could charge you more. I've done some computer repairs for family and friends and it's ridiculous the bull that repair stores throw at you

I'm not experiencing overheating issues, the guy didn't charge and said he didn't have another motherboard to swap out with and test. He didn't charge me anything at least. I know its ridiculous how much they charge sometimes but its out of warranty so I don't have much choice and I'm scared to take it apart and damage something else but I have no other choice now lol. Did you look at a video before you took your apart?
Also was your phone doing the exact same thing? It does make sense it could be a dirty contact, I work ata Chevy dealer and bad contacts sometimes do weird things but sometimes at the lock screen the touch screen won't work also and I have to turn of t the screen for it to work

Lol. what cover are you talking about? i just followed the one video and blew compressed air through ever little nook and crany. It didnt fix it completely as im not too worried about it since my digitizer is shattered. So i'll be more worried about it once i get a new digitizer. But just follow one of the videos on youtube, they take the thing apart all the way down to individual parts.
Hey use attached apk, and remap one of your other buttons to function as the power button. I have mine set to the green button since i dont use it anyhow. That way the endkey doesnt get used so much. It works perfectly. once i get a new display im gonna rig a way to keep this from happening again.

Ha, have you tried rebooting the HD2? If i hit the end key, it stops working completely, but after a reboot it works again. So far it hasnt stopped working since i remapped the green key to be power key. And yeah i had to use my Touch Pro 2 until i finally got an HD2. I cant wait to get a job and get an SGS2 though. Thats an amazing phone.

Screen responding without touching it

Does anyone else have their screen respond without touching it?
I've noticed this in go sms. On the conversation list, the last one on the screen is sometimes pressed without me touching it. I will press back and it just goes back into it.
I recently noticed in web browsing too where the screen would refresh on its own. I clued in that the refresh button is on the bottom of the screen.
Seems like the bottom maybe 2 cm of the screen sometimes responds on its own.
Is there any app that I can see where the screen is being pressed?
Settings, Developer options, Show Touches
That will visually show you where any screen touches are occurring. The screen is a bit sensitive for me sometimes, but I haven't seen anything crazy yet.

Same here. Sometimes it happens to me. I would say one of 50 touches it'll react even without me pressing finger on a scren.
I definitely know what you're referring to, and it does seem to happen only on the bottom of the screen. Sometimes I'll trigger the screen if my finger is close but not touching it.

The thing that bothered me today is that i was trying to press a button in the top left corner and the bottom link kept being pressed so I have to hit back and I was trying to beat the bottom press but I couldnt lol
I dont think there was any moisture on that part of the screen either
Yep, but not on this phone yet...
I say not yet because it's happened to me on almost every one of my touch screen phones. It seems to happen to me when the air is dry and I bet it has to do with there being more static electricity around. On those days when you're shocking everything you touch, those are the days when my phones seem to act up. It happened on my G1, my vibrant, Droid1, Droidx, and two of my bionics. All of the problems went away although on my 1st bionic it was really bad and almost completely unusable. The next day it was back to normal. Maybe it's just gremlins.
answer:
it happens if/when you use a DIFFERENT charger for the phone. you should be using the charger that comes with the phone. If you use a different charger (from a G1 or from a razr or something), then the screen tends to mess up, even when off the charger.

For those of you with this problem, try pulling the battery out for a minute or two and also try touching something metal if you can. You know to discharge any static built up. (Worth a shot right) When I had this problem on my Sensation everyone was reporting that it was the charger they were using. I don't know if that was correct because the problem went away even though I was still using two different chargers. One charger was for the GNEX (same as GS3) and the other was the HTC charger. I really think it has to do with static electricity build up. If you think about the way these digitizers work it really makes sense. It seems to happen to me during spring time when it's dry and windy.

That is a good theory, but why would the static shock only be hitting the bottom part of the screen?
i don't know why. but i'm sure it's the charger. this happened back in the G1 days when android first came out. i did so many "experiments" with different chargers to figure out what was causing the screen to be all glitched like this. found out it was the charger. same thing happened with my vibrant, and same thing happened with my sisters sgs2.

[I9001] Touchscreen/Heat problem.

Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas how to keep my phone cool in the summer?
Since the touchscreen works with heat, I can't use it in the summer.
In the manual i think it said it doesn't work above 35°C room temp., but in the summer it gets about 45°C in the shade.
It's only spring here, and it already makes touches that I didn't make, I use-to blow on the screen to keep it cool, but it doesn't work now.
Please help.
Thanks in advance

Kind of the same here. Summer is about to begin, and my Galaxy S i9000 gets really hot - in the following places:
- just to the right of the Samsung logo in the top-right corner
- on the screen surface
- on the back where the battery is
and then if it gets too hot it automatically reboots, crashes and has a really bad lag.
Doesn't anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?? It getting very much hotter here.
try to cover the back of the phone in aluminium folie (i dont know the english wors but you know the silver thing from.the kitchen )

Um isn't that gunna keep the heat in?? 55°C SIM Card, isn't probibly the best idea....
When battery is discharging, the inner electric resistance becomes bigger/larger,especially when calling/playing music/gaming.But the current that the phone needed mustn't reduce,so a large amount of energy will be wasted and of course, the battery gets hot.
BTW,when the battery is under 60¡ãC,it's safe.
Regular data connection/high CPU occupancy rate/blablabla can make a device hot.
Maybe you can try to flash a stock rom and see the problem solved or not.
Sorry for my poor English.
My phone goes up to 55°C with no problems, just my fingers sweaty lol. Only happens when I'm charging, on the phone and using it at the same time though.

Thanks for the post guy's , but the main problem really is: when the room temp. is hot, it causes the phones temp. to rise also, and then it doesn't register touches on the screen. This also happens when the phone is really hot [thanks for the tips, I'll turn data off, and not use while charging.]
I am seriously considering freezing my phone, to cool it off enough so that I can use it.

thats for sure mate.Room temp. went high,of course the device got hot, theres no doubt~
next, about unregistered touch, the touchscreen we are using (what's the name of it ??),the best temperature to use is between 0-35C,when it's >>(higher higher )than 35C(50C and so on )there will be some unregistered touches so dont worry if this 'tooooo high' temperature only lasts for a short period of time. But if the screen works in the highhighhigh temperature,it may cause damages.
back 2 the topic, where gets hot when u use ur phone ?

It gets hot right below the Samsung logo on the left, sometimes randomly, sometimes not.

Touch problems with video proof

So, as we all know, some OPO's have touch issues. Many are because of software and many are because of hardware. My OPO suffers from both, and here are two screencasts as proof. I muted the sound with Movie Maker since it's not relevant to what I'm showing you.
The phone is lying flat on my desk and I start off by adding one finger from my right hand, then another finger. Then I add a third finger from my left hand and start moving it around as you can see in the videos, all while keeping my right hand fingers perfectly still. Without a charger or USB connected (to my computer), the touch is crazy. With a charger or USB, the touch is perfectly fine. This is with the latest touch firmware, might I add, and the touch was just the same with the previous versions. Definitely a hardware error (grounding?).

That's is interesting mate, that's quite a find tbh, would charging and not charging be a bug in the firmware....

Just had a go myself. I get the issue after using 5-6 fingers, more so when the device is flat (odd). When I charge the phone and do the test it is gone completely. Only difference in my situation is that it doesn't crop up when I'm typing, I don't suffer from ghost swipes etc when doing normal browsing or playing games. It functions as good as my M7 until I start to use 5+ fingers on the screen

No idea, tbh. It seems that the ghost swipes are gone with the latest firmware and that I can type quickly. Seemingly so after directly booting the phone up, at least. My OPO lies shutdown on my desk most of the time since I use my S5 daily. Just knowing about this issue bothers me a lot, though. I wonder what OP will reply in the mail I sent them. They (a support guy) asked me to send them videos of the problem so that they could help shedding some light as to what issues I'm facing.
I tried it as well when you plug it in I can use 10 fingers and no issues without plugging in anything above 6 screws up :/

I wonder if all OPO's have this grounding (?) issue.

Probably. The fact that it doesn't happen to everyone unless they use a lot of fingers at once is more than likely the reason some say they don't have it. If I didn't install the multitouch test app I'd assume the screen is perfect since I never use more than two fingers on the screen at once anyways

Then my One must be pretty darn bad since it started acting up after only four fingers. Not that I'd ever need that many simultaneously for anything other than touch testing apps, though. I think I most likely have a general touch issues as well as most issues resolve themselves after a reboot but come crawling back slowly.

You might be better off not purchasing any device with the "One" name regardless of whether it is HTC or OP based on your track record lol. It does sound like general touch issues though. Good thing you have the S5. Personally I'd keep the phone though and have it as a spare when/if newer updates help to alleviate the issue.

Yes, I think so too. I had it up for sale but took the ad down as I felt like keeping it instead. Besides, the touch seems better with the new "firmware" and might just "do" as a spare. Would be nice testing some CM-infused Lollipop too.

Saves me from the hassle of getting rid of a device that I don't really need to get rid of. I've already earned back what I paid for it anyway.

Shouldn't it be possible to built a small plugin which then serves as a dust cover for the micro usb connection, which also cures all multi-touch issues... i smell money in the air

LOL yep i thought about it too.. But better thing should be to find this not grounded part and physically connect it.. Dunno maybe bend some metal part of usb just 1 milimeter can help but maybe not.
I removed my case and as i had the phone in my hands the touch was perfect. The touch was perfect when I had earphones plugged in.

Someone tried something like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55195874&postcount=1783
Unfortunately he did not post any pictures. Side effects like increased heat could come with this modification.
Curious, do you have the hardware buttons activated? It maybe in my head but I just tried this and the touchscreen seems better (no random movement nor false presses or merges) when the hardware buttons are disabled. I dont really find the touchscreen a problem but it may help you guys, I am sticking with software buttons now (always did with my nexus ) and cant complain now!

The problem here is that the touch panel doesn't properly ground to the back cover for some strange reason. Notice how the touch works brilliantly in my other video? Yeah, that's because I now grounded the phone by physically touching the back cover (I had to take off my flip case for this). It also grounds as it should when there's some electrical current entering the usb port in some way (either by a wall plug charger or a USB cable connected to your computer).
It has to be bad grounding. Nothing else makes sense.
