Is there a way to get the output from the gesture sensor in a visual format? I'm curious what it sees. Is it an IR camera? Or is it something more simple, like the proximity sensor?

I dont think its just a proximity sensor cause it knows in which direction you swipe

That's what I was thinking, too. I wonder if there's technical documentation anywhere / some sort of API for writing an app for it, hmmm....

Install "Sensor List" and it will show yo the output for all of the sensors it can detect. That being said, if I'm correct, you cannot access the gesture sensor. It's Samsungs proprietary API and they have not and probably will not share it with anybody.

why cant xda can create a software which can unlock the phone by touch (finger print recognition software)?????
Mmmm....
If the device had the hardware to utilise finger-print recognition, I'm sure the device would have the software pre-installed.
Software is not the issue here... these wizards can do anything with that - hardware is the only limitation here my friend
k..we cannot utilise navigation wheel as a device hardware...???
no. it is not an optical / laser device which can capture lines. i believe the htc shift has this finger print sensor. but as of now in "the real world" htc diamond will never have biometric recognition function
iphone??
iphone has not an optical device too but an finger print program has developed 4 it!!

There is no real fingerprint scanner for the iPhone, only fake ones to prank your friends, because the iPhone doesn't have the hardware to do real fingerprint scanning either.
This isn't possible, on either hardware platform, plain and simple. What do you think is going to scan your fingerprint?? A touch screen is not an optical scanner!

Right, of course the touch screen cannot read fingerprints. Starting from it's resolution, not the screen resolution in pixels, but the resolution of the touch sensors matrix. There is too much space between each sensor (3 milimiters or so). The point of pressure is calculated based on the values of each sensor. It's impossible to get a fingerprint.
The second point is that the Diamond's touch screen is not capacitive, we can't get multi-touch, only 1 point or area of pressure. It's impossible to get biometric features in Diamond!!

Hey guys,
I recently tried the app simply lockscreen, in which there is the "force unlock". Basically, you swipe your hand over the proximity or light sensor (not sure which). Would it be possible to implement this concept into an app to close apps, navigate in the browser, etc? Could be a cool thing to look into!

great! i now want a theremin app using proximity sensors!

Sorry mister baii, we don't know how to remove that stupid dreaded stuff from the right hand sensor prompt.
haha, sorry for the unclear question, it just hard to reproduce it. it is a full screen prompt saying the touch screen is locked and ask you remove object from the sensor.
Usually happens when waked from sleep.

maybe the user guide may help, please read through page 398

He's taking about the Sweep On gesture. Much like the LG G3, the digitizer is left on, accepting a gesture to activate the display.
For some reason, the ambient light sensor (located next to the notification light) demands light for interactivity during this. It's basically a pain for right-handing phone users like myself. I assume it is so it can't take input and unlock in your pocket, but it's a hassle, and it continues to do so even with secure lock solutions that require human input.
As for a fix, there really isn't one. Get used to stretching your finger up to the Power key.
The N6P has got the same fingerprint sensor than the mate s. Is it possible to get the scrolling feature with the fingerprint sensor as a touchpad for photos and browser ... working? This would be very usefull especially when reading long text.
There is a lot of potential features that could be realized with the fingerprint sensor ... such as switch to last app when longpressed or double tapped while unlocked.
I don't got any programming skills so i don't know how to do this at all. Just some ideas
I do self talk here ... just want to bring this up again.
Scrolling with the sensor would be so usefull as i always got pain in my little finger holding my device while reading long text ... anyone even know if this is possible?
Hi, you do have a good idea! Try the Kinetic Scroll app for now, and ask the developer here about the fingerprint scanner.
If you can, I'd suggest make an xposed module! A lot of people (myself included) would definitely be interested!
I think it's possible to do it because the Huawei made scroll screenshot in their system so why not implement this feature in the fingerprint sensor it will be very useful to all users
Imagine if we could have the functionality of the Nexus 1s track ball from the fingerprint scanner. ?

yes this app is perfect for me i am using on android-O .
I just got the G6 and I noticed something right away that I can't explain.
In previous phones, using certain camera apps, you can tap for focus and then drag an exposure meter around to pick which part of the image to expose for. I still see this option in the apps on this phone but they don't have any effect. Does anyone understand why this is happening? Has something changed in Oreo to cause this level of setting exposure to have been disabled?

I have noticed same with my G6. Touch metering works with stock camera but not with most 3rd party camera apps, like OpenCamera. Surprisingly it works with port of Nokia 8 camera.
I think it is a feature of camera API implementation in G6. It didn't work before Oreo either. However, it works on custom Oreo ROM in my OnePlus 2.
Have you tried to "tap to focus" and then hold the finger a little bit longer on the selected area ?
It will then enter AE/AF lock mode.

When you say stock camera do you mean the one that comes on the phone? Doesn't work for me.

That sets the focus and exposure in the same spot. I don't always want my focal point to be the point of exposure for the shot.

Right, but then you can change focal point manually (the fp controls appear on screen).

Really? I'm not seeing that in my app. I only see the ability to adjust zoom.
I'm talking about the auto-mode screen, where do you see focus?

When AF and AE is locked, two additional controls appear : a MF button and an exposure regulation.
Click that MF button and then you can manually set the focus.

Yeah, ok, I see. I don't have that button.
EDIT: Scratch that, I was missing an update I hadn't done. But it still doesn't fix the exposure control in camera apps via onscreen exposure meters or rings.
