Would you recommend Android 4.4.1 over 4.3?

UPDATE: would you recommend Android 4.4.1 over Android 4.3 on the Nexus 4? Why? Why not?
Okay, a little title change here. So I'm hearing some good things on 4.4.1, so let me ask you a few questions, even if it may be too early at this point:
- anyone who didn't recommend 4.4 before feels like 4.4.1 is major step forward?
- how's battery life, especially in regards of wakelocks and unexpected drainage? Does wakelockdetector work now?
- how's 4.4.1 performance compared to 4.3, both stock, is it definitely snappier?
- how's camera performing to 4.3, how's photoshere stitching?
- anyone running it WITHOUT factory reset and 4.4 & 4.4.1 installed over 4.3, experiencing zero problems?
Thank you!

Okay I guess it's a question I want answer to, but I posted in the General cause more than a simple answer I look forward to a positive discussion on the matter - is 4.4 stable, app-supported and bug free enough right now to easily recommend the update, would you rather suggest to wait until bug fixes or would you flat out say avoid it?
I added a poll to get a statistical look of the Community's take on this so others can check where 4.4 stands now on the Nexus 4 according to XDA.
Of course, KitKat is a great update. It's the best Android version yet and I love where Google is going with it.

obviously yes, the 4.4 google nexus update is awesome, dunno for other devices ( in future ). by the time samsung launches it, it will be full of bugs, ala 4.3 for s3
I think everyone who has an unlocked bootloader should for sure. Definitely needs to be ran for a couple days to get a feel for it. If you want customization you'll most likely go back to 4.3 as 4.4 rom's don't have very much. (yet)
Performance and UI changes (if there..) are nice. On the other hand there are too many bugs to recommend it. Also, and this does not apply to many, battery life of my N4 sucks after some days on KK. No, there is no bad app. Ask my bbs stats

I also have to say my battery life sucks now that I'm on 4.4.
Not sure what it is but I got 12 hours TOTAL. Not even with a lot of use. Most of the time the screen was off and I didn't much use it. That's compared to a full day of life when I was on JB.
I'm wondering if a factory reset would help it.
I'm running KRT16O on my phone and loving it. However, it appears I was one of the lucky ones. No bugs, no bootloop.
KRT16S is obviously not ready for rollout. It's been soft-bricking devices like crazy it seems. I hope Google halts the OTA and fixes this. Until then, I'm sticking with 16O.
Hold off and wait.
So, there are plenty of bugs here, lags on the lock screen, lags in the applications, applications which still doesn't working, camera is making very bad pictures and so on - take a look to android 4.4 bugs forum.
I am back to 4.3 and waiting for 4.4.1.
No, i don't recommend 4.4 on the nexus 4 yet.

Recommended. I'm on KRT16S with no problems whatsoever. Great fluidity and no bugs.
I think 4.4 has some good news, but not worth it. I was using paranoid ROOM with linaro franco kernel and i`m ready to get it back on my device.
krt16s
KRT16S is very good image,my phone is full apps and all working without problem,i use nova last beta 3 launcher and working realy fast,i dont like GEL icons(too big for me),battery is great, after 10 hours stand by time 4-6 %, ,on screen i think is wery good, betther than 4.3....no FC,no lags, everything work fluid and fast....
i flash with FB,and after flashing factory reset....
It's significantly better than 4.3 IMO. I personally clean flash for every major update after taking a backup, and I'm having absolutely no issues. UI is extremely smooth, no bugs with tethering or anything of that sort and battery life has actually improved.
I'd recommend a clean flash if you have the time, just to be thorough.
I would definitely recommend it. Performancewise...it has never been better imo! I don't experience any of those bugs mentioned above. Smoothness is just amazing.

Thx guys!
Wow, quite difference experiences... so it appears there are bugs, but not for everyone...
How's that ART thing on the Nexus 4? Is it too experimental at this point to be of everyday use?

I switched to ART immediately upon updating last week. It runs great. I've only had a few bugs(Timely takes about 10 seconds to open). Beyond that, I like it. I let my friend who is using CM 11 on his GNex try it out last night and he was impressed with the performance.
If you get KitKat to install without soft-bricking, you're going to have a good experience IMO. However, due to the risk of bootloop, I cannot recommending the update at this time in good conscience.
4.4 is the best android version so far, and with ART is amazingly smooth!
Sure - I have been using since a day after Google released the factory images and I didn't have a single problem with it. I also flashed zip for transparent nav bar in the lockscreen and installed Nova launcher beta and everything is as smooth as butter
Well, i'm not using ART so far because I don't like to use a hacked lib or an outdated app to be able to use all my apps with it.
That aside, KRT16S has been awesome so far, battery life has improved, the UI is much smoother and with ApexPro 2.2.0 beta 1 the interface has the same transparency as GEL (Which I uninstalled already. I don't like the kiddie-sized icons, it looks too toy-like).
On KTR16S ... Battery is worse than KTR16O which is worse than 4.3 for me... My experience with ART was not great, but probably because my phone is almost full of files and got full (system and free space for storage) after a long time to optimize...after that I didn't notice a better performance and missed some of my apps so returned back to dalvik ...but I would recommend KitKat....I like GEL and about its size icons I changed DPI than got great for me

I'm sorry I still carry some noobage... install without soft bricking, what do you mean by that? I'm waiting for the OTA but still undecided whether to install when it arrives. Speaking of, if it does, can I install it over 4.3 keeping my apps & settings? I'm unrooted and not planning to.

Update to KitKat or Not?

After seeing many different comments. I wanted to get a general idea on whether to update LG G2 to 4.4.2 Kitkat or stay with the 4.2.2 JellyBean version?
I mostly think about the OFFICIAL Kitkat release, NON-ROOTED.
I have seen people talking about battery and bluetooth battery drain problems on the new update... So which one is better?
Thanks.
Got better for me when I updated, and or was pretty dang good before

Oh no. One of the reasons why i ditched my nexus 4 for lg g2 is because nexus 4 had bluetooth connection issues with my car. Looks like it has to do with google 4.3 and 4.4+ roms no matter what phone you have. I have heard only sense and touchwiz didnt have this issue in KK. As i drive a lot, i need this feature. Looks like 4.4.3 fixes bluetooth - hope we get it for lg g2.
Other than that only things you will loose going to KK is
flash wont work with stock browser even if you use hacked flash player - works with dolphin+jetpack though.
stock browser inverted rendering wont work - dolphin night mode is great though.
Battery drain difference between the versions are minimal. I tried both in my nexus 4. If you experience a drain, it might be due to play services. some versions keep the location services running even if you turn off the location. I use appops to turn it off and i get good battery in KK.
What kind of issue you have with bluetooth? Not connecting? or not auto connecting with paired devices?
Edit: Bluetooth working fine for me with kitkat stock. Same car with which i had problems with nexus 4, works with lg g2.

I'm really thinking of going back to JB. Battery was heaven on there. I used to go 30 minutes SOT before it dropped to 99%. Now, after 12 minutes it drops. Battery life is not bad but once you taste batter, well, who doesn't want to stay at better. I just underclocked to 1.5Ghz for the day to see battery usage. First time underclocked with any device.

Hey guys, ive tested both. I would say battery on JB is better but overall speed is improved in KK (a least it feels like that).. so it just depends on your preferences..
(But i like the statusbar a looot more in KK)
Battery and speed is better for me on Kitkat.

Which rom do you use and why?

I'm just curious which custom rom do you use? Any why you prefer it above others?
I use AOSP NeatROM v8.0+Apolo Kernel Regular. I like it because it has many options and is battery friendly, It's fast and smooth.
With you man! I only miss fm radio lilabit.
I use NeatRom 5.9 based on stock JB. Everything works (yes, I use smart stay ), maybe TW is a little bit slow but I like it... Camera quality is good, it hasn't bug with freeze music player. Neatrom is better than clean stock for me because it has more feature like call recording etc.
Sometimes I think about update my S2 to the sth new
I used to use WizzedKat, now I'm on RevolutionUX 2014 because I like transparent status bar with white icons
Using NeatRom v6.3 with Siyah kernel becouse of all tweaks that has great balance for parformance and battery life. Also can't stop using touch wiz
I use Slimsaber Reborn because all Kitkat Roms I have tested (NeatRom AOSP and SlimSaber) drain twice as much.
BTW: FM Radio is avaiilable with Sprit FM. It just requires root.

I'm also using this rom, for me it's the best rom for our Galaxy S2...
I'd like the developer do a new version of this rom with Galaxy S5 theme.
But I know he hasn't the Galaxy S2 now....
Back in the active days of my S2, I was switching between Paranoid and Resurrection Remix every month or two.
I generally slightly preferred RR to PA but I really liked both of them due to how smooth they were and the customizability of both (mainly RR).
Even though I've not been using the S2 for a hell of a long time, I've just brought it back out of retirement (mainly just as a mess around phone) and am still running RR at the moment. I'll probably end up keeping this on here as I'm not using it enough to keep changing ROMs every now and again.
AOSP NeatROM, currently v8.0st 4.4.4
And why:
-Highly customizable
-Fast and plain simple
-True dark (for Amoled :good: )
-Latest android (ART support = more speed & battery)
Stock Jelly bean...Reasons:
1. Battery life
2. FM radio...:silly:
3. Network reception is better
4. Almost bug free
5. Screen quality is better than custom ROMs. And I tried many of them.
Will change to Android L when it comes. That is only a huge upgrade from JB, not Kitkat.:laugh:
Hi guys, I havent been on this forum for a loong time. I have SlimSaber rom 4.4.2. on my SGS2 and recently it started to heat up, becoming unstable etc.
So, what is the absolute best (STABLE and Bugless) custom ROM for SGS2, which has good battery life and solid perfomance ? The android version doesnt matter, it can be lower than 4.4.4. kitkat...
i use spirit rom v1.4 android 4.4.4. fast, stable and smooth
I prefer AOSP NeatROM v8.0st with Apolo JB 4.14 (New 7.1). It works very smoothly and provides solid battery lifetime.

I totally agree with the network reception being better as well as the battery life but with spotify who needs FM radio

Been with NeatRom since its v6.4.
Currently on AOSP NeatROM v8.0st. This ROM is like no other!
Why?
Smooth and Elegant
Superb battery life
Lesser memory resident programs
Customization to the max.
Only one issue I want NeatRom to fix for me:
The bluetooth mic levels when connected to the car's audio system renders very low voice that the person on the other end can't hear me so good.
Hope _Sale_ resolves it sooner.

I'm asking for the same question, seems like many here are using NEATROM.
It's almost been 2 years since I last flash a ROM, going through all those posts again really takes up a LOT of time.

Due to ummm an unexpected water damage my s2 has finally rip. My favourite rom has always been slimkat .a very good stable and different feature rom . For example i liked the recent apps which came from the side. Just a great addition. Its the most stable for me, due fo the release of lolipop my last rom was cm 11. Was able to use a lolipop theme . Which was great and cant wait for Lolipop.... Finally slimkat/slimbean are my favourite rom for stability and battery life .:fingers-crossed:
I use Prizm core
reason
1.wonderful UI
2.nice Game Performance
3. bettery good
4. not need patch to korea KT sms
5. edge tasking
but sometime Freezing

[Q] Stock vs CM12?

Hi all. I have one question and I need a honest answer.
I currently have LG G2 d802 32gb version currently running stock kitkat.
I wait so badly on lollipop update but.. I was bored today and I found some videos in YouTube about CyanogenMod12 for LG G2 and now idk what to do.
I used a HTC Desire S for a long time running cm11 and I kinda miss Cyanogenmod hehe.
So the question is, should I root and get cm12 or wait for official lollipop?
Just to note, I'm not an Android hacker or anything like that and I dont need root to modify my phone in those terms.
I just know that cm really smooth is and I would like to know is there a big difference between stock and cm12?
I mostly use my phone for Internet browsing, Whatsapp and sometimes games.
Also I know I can do all of that with stock but still, I would like to know is it worth to flash cm12?
How's the camera, are there any big bugs and errors, how is the batery life etc.
Thanks for info. Cheers!

Note 3 Kitkat Vs Lollipop

Should i upgrade to lollipop? my note 3 n9005
iv heard some draining battery issue :v
I have the same question. I feel good with KK rom: very stable, fast, battery friend. All apps works good.
I would like to try Lollipop, but read a lot of battery drain problems, no real advantages in performance, some compatibility issues for some apps.
Is lollipop really better, at this moment for note 3?
If yes, in your opinion, why?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
I ran lollipop since it came out and recently rolled back to KK. The phone is smooth and responsive again.
You wait hours to open the recents and the phone is simply lagging after 2 or 3 days of uptime.
The lollipop UI looks better and feels more polished, but the performance is a deal breaker.
I haven't had any issues with battery life, pretty much same as KK.
Until they fix the memory leak LP will not be any where near as good as KK and with M coming out soon they very well may stop updating LP for M and make a new polish OS instead of patching LP to match KK performances. ..I'm using arya rom v5.4 and having no problems yet but performance is not better than KK and recent apps takes way to long to open ...i do like KK clean fast and battery good audio is better in KK small glitches on LP ...it just doesn't feel like it's polished enough for a high end phone
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
The only way that i'll use LP, is when they release 5.1 version. Until that i stay with 4.4.2.
I'm happily staying on 4.4.2. 5.0 is unstable, looks terrible and has far too many problems.
In fact, I'm still on NB7. Yes, Februari 2014. The battery life I have is amazing, I'm not risking an update.

Which is more frienldy for battery? KK or Lollipop?
I would say kitkat has a better stability ,smoother and more battery friendly without you doing much tweaking. Lollipop can be as good as kitkat but need tweaking.
If you are ordinary user and do not care about updates, I recommend kitkat. If you are flasholic then most likely you will move forward to Lollipop and android M soon.
N9005 Rocking with Norma v21 Lollipop + Lean 6.2
In this week I will back for KK and make a root. Half year wothout root is tiring. White settings etc now are booring for me so i back for 4.4.2 and next maybe update for 5.0 but with using Mobile Odin pro and root permission.
Very irrytating is slow react proximity sensor when i set aside from the ear after call.
Only kk
