Which rom do you use and why? - Galaxy S II General

I'm just curious which custom rom do you use? Any why you prefer it above others?
I use AOSP NeatROM v8.0+Apolo Kernel Regular. I like it because it has many options and is battery friendly, It's fast and smooth.

With you man! I only miss fm radio lilabit.

I use NeatRom 5.9 based on stock JB. Everything works (yes, I use smart stay ), maybe TW is a little bit slow but I like it... Camera quality is good, it hasn't bug with freeze music player. Neatrom is better than clean stock for me because it has more feature like call recording etc.
Sometimes I think about update my S2 to the sth new

I used to use WizzedKat, now I'm on RevolutionUX 2014 because I like transparent status bar with white icons

Using NeatRom v6.3 with Siyah kernel becouse of all tweaks that has great balance for parformance and battery life. Also can't stop using touch wiz

I use Slimsaber Reborn because all Kitkat Roms I have tested (NeatRom AOSP and SlimSaber) drain twice as much.
BTW: FM Radio is avaiilable with Sprit FM. It just requires root.

I'm also using this rom, for me it's the best rom for our Galaxy S2...
I'd like the developer do a new version of this rom with Galaxy S5 theme.
But I know he hasn't the Galaxy S2 now....

Back in the active days of my S2, I was switching between Paranoid and Resurrection Remix every month or two.
I generally slightly preferred RR to PA but I really liked both of them due to how smooth they were and the customizability of both (mainly RR).
Even though I've not been using the S2 for a hell of a long time, I've just brought it back out of retirement (mainly just as a mess around phone) and am still running RR at the moment. I'll probably end up keeping this on here as I'm not using it enough to keep changing ROMs every now and again.

AOSP NeatROM, currently v8.0st 4.4.4
And why:
-Highly customizable
-Fast and plain simple
-True dark (for Amoled :good: )
-Latest android (ART support = more speed & battery)

Stock Jelly bean...Reasons:
1. Battery life
2. FM radio...:silly:
3. Network reception is better
4. Almost bug free
5. Screen quality is better than custom ROMs. And I tried many of them.
Will change to Android L when it comes. That is only a huge upgrade from JB, not Kitkat.:laugh:

Hi guys, I havent been on this forum for a loong time. I have SlimSaber rom 4.4.2. on my SGS2 and recently it started to heat up, becoming unstable etc.
So, what is the absolute best (STABLE and Bugless) custom ROM for SGS2, which has good battery life and solid perfomance ? The android version doesnt matter, it can be lower than 4.4.4. kitkat...

i use spirit rom v1.4 android 4.4.4. fast, stable and smooth

I prefer AOSP NeatROM v8.0st with Apolo JB 4.14 (New 7.1). It works very smoothly and provides solid battery lifetime.

I totally agree with the network reception being better as well as the battery life but with spotify who needs FM radio
Cheers

Been with NeatRom since its v6.4.
Currently on AOSP NeatROM v8.0st. This ROM is like no other!
Why?
Smooth and Elegant
Superb battery life
Lesser memory resident programs
Customization to the max.
Only one issue I want NeatRom to fix for me:
The bluetooth mic levels when connected to the car's audio system renders very low voice that the person on the other end can't hear me so good.
Hope _Sale_ resolves it sooner.

I'm asking for the same question, seems like many here are using NEATROM.
It's almost been 2 years since I last flash a ROM, going through all those posts again really takes up a LOT of time.

Am currently on Carbon ROM after Spirit ROM fuked me up while I tried to switch to ART runtime....I guess I shud try NeatRom as I have seen majority are praising its battery life which is a big issue with S2

Due to ummm an unexpected water damage my s2 has finally rip. My favourite rom has always been slimkat .a very good stable and different feature rom . For example i liked the recent apps which came from the side. Just a great addition. Its the most stable for me, due fo the release of lolipop my last rom was cm 11. Was able to use a lolipop theme . Which was great and cant wait for Lolipop.... Finally slimkat/slimbean are my favourite rom for stability and battery life .:fingers-crossed:

I use Prizm core
reason
1.wonderful UI
2.nice Game Performance
3. bettery good
4. not need patch to korea KT sms
5. edge tasking
but sometime Freezing

What Rom are you currently using ?

Exciting times are ahead of us, the big Rom developers are already making a Rom and new Roms are coming by daily basis it seems.
In this topic we can talk about what Rom we are currently using and what our thoughts are about it.
I'm still using stock oppo Rom, I had a few problems with flashing a new Rom so I gave up.
I will try again in the future, but I'm not sure what Rom I should install.

The cm10 nightlies!
It works perfectly for me, only issue i have is battery life.... I think its even worse than with stock fw....
But considering how far the developers have come in such a short time one can't complain really
I 'm way happier than with my previous s3!

Just installed PAC-man ROM, and must say i'm very happy with it, fast, nice features and they are updating regularly.
PA all the way! So far I've had zero issues (besides the nonfunctional camera) with the alpha build. In fact, I've been averaging up to an hour more screen on time. Its pretty awesome!

been running CM10.1 for the past couple days.. no problems but no camera.
kinda hope they update so you can adjust the drawer layout. i hate the 4x4 grid pattern
im running stock rooted waiting for cm 10.1 to fix the camera and the battery life. i have aokp on my galaxy s3 so im kind of an anti-stock user.
:victory: happy with Pac Rom , super smooth and camera all working now ( HDR , Recorder , front camera) . I recommend this because It drains less battery than stock . Best rom until FireFly Project done.
CM Nightles. The only rom that has the camera working. My battery life increased considerably. I'm at 12 hours at 10% with screen on for a little over 3 hours. Looked at the battery half way through the day and found a widget NOM NOM NOM on my battery so uninstalled it at 50% so the battery life is even better.
Stock rom has an issue that I can't live with. Submitting a bug report/feature change on OPPO forums to resolve this. On OEM rom and the phone on Tmo, the radio drops DCH/HSPA+42 quickly versus giving it a little timeout period before scaling out. This coupled with semi aggressive power management keep apps like Spotify from streaming consistently without the screen awake and some additional source of data to keep the phone fully ramped up. It does not exhibit this under CM. Love the phone actually enjoyed the OEM software but I use a lot of my battery life for music consumption. Oppo will get it resolved though. TONS of faith in them based on feedback taken and given.

Can anyone confirm if Easy Cover is working as it should on custom roms (tried on cm nightlies and it just wakes the phone but dont lock it)
I just loaded ReVolt last evening and it's quite nice. No major issues thus far either. I am a big fan of CM, and find that this has all the options I miss from a fledgling ROM like Oppo's. In time they'll get there.
PAC Rom nightlys. Woking great so far
Latest firefly "ïnternational" beta
I would call it more like an alpha since is 25% or more chinese, stable enough(few freezes), damn pretty but that's all good things about it.
Oppo still didn't fixed the main bugs on this phone like camera autofocus, poor performance in low light and image stabilization, plus the main functions of the phone that shouldn't be bad from start.
CM nightly only.
CM10.1/Oppo Find 5
I am still on the older stock rom, since the last and final update seems
to deal more damage than good.
Still fighting with myself if I should upgrade to Color ROM. Can you guys
recommend it? I am not interested in the newest features, but an
increase of stability would be very welcomed.

CM 10.1 with maxwen Kernel

State of the Rom situation -is KitKat worth it.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to share my personal Rom recent experience. I would obviously like to know if others have found the same or if you violently disagree!
The best place to be right now I think is:
s-off (so you can flash whatever you want)
Rooted (so you can back up apps & data freely)
Specifically:
HHboot 1.56 (latest firmware)
ARHD 31.6 Android 4.3 & Sense 5.5) with no mods
Latest radio
I have tried Maximus 30.0 & AHRD 40.3 and found they offered no features/benefits advantage over 31.6 and have a couple of annoying bugs. Battery life is a little worse than 31.6
I have also tried odexed GPE 4.4 with the new launcher. When ART is enabled you can feel the phone is snappier, but that's it. I don't really want to use Google Now. Battery life is worse than sense Roms.
cool story bro
I'm using insertcoin right now and my battery is far more better than any other base I have tried including cm ones. I'm getting over 19h usage with 3h+ screen on time and 3-4h of music through poweramp. Performance is pretty much the same as earlier versions.
I can easily get 13+ hours and about 30% left when I get home with moderate usage on GE 4.4.

Same here.
There aren't many performance improvements and DND shuts off the media volume too which I don't particularly like (I quite often use DND to ignore calls and texts while I game) but other than that, I've got the best battery I've ever seen on a stock ROM.
Going to put EX on and do my undervolt + CPU/GPU O/C and have even better battery life.
I don't really miss ART. I have it on my Nexus 7 2013 and its got some issues.

[Discussion] TouchWiz vs AOSP/AOSP/CM/Other ROMs

Hey guys. Let's discuss about the ROMs we use.
So I've tried both TouchWiz and AOSP style ROMs before. These are my opinion for them:
TouchWiz:
+ great UI
+ more features than AOSP
+ has TV out
+ less bugs
+ multiwindow
- sometimes slow and laggy
AOSP
+ great advance features
+ mostly customizable
+ super fast and almost lag free
+ try new versions of Android
- no tv out
- no sim card contacts support
So can I get you guys's opinion?
It will be great if you can introduce me ROMs that have TV out and probably many Samsung features too.. Best is 4.2 and onwards
Thanks ! Hope to hear from you guys
For me,stock is better for daily use.AOSP are also good but one thing that i hate about these roms is bad battery life. With stock,i can get 5-6 hrs screen on time. With AOSP,i get 3-4 hrs screen on time.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
AOSP being super fast and lag free on the S2 is a myth really. HW composer does not work on non samsung based roms meaning no project butter. That alone makes stock based roms a much more fluid experience even if it may not be as fast at opening apps for example.
try charmeleon rom base on jb 4.2.1 has a feauture of all aosp pure stock vanilla android hehe
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I find roms like CM/OMNI better than stock in many ways, but I can't stand camera drivers, these are terrible In TouchWiz we have all sorts of enhancements like real time focus, blinking detection and for me it's the only disadvantage of these roms.
is there a port of tw for ASOP 4.4 builds? i dont like the ASOP notification bar .....is hideous and has way less functionality
Aosp based - no project butter
Camera is pathetic
Battery life poor
Superb performace
Happy feeling to run latest android
Highly customisable
Sammy rom
- slow bt fluid
- superb camera
- bloated (can be removed)
-much better handling for high end games
- touchwiz ui (I like it more wid touchwiz)
-good battery life
-feeling of being ancient (when u run 4.1 even when kitkat has been launched for months)

On the hw composer part, is it specific to the S2? Or also the other S devices? like the S3 or S4 for example.

Except for the galaxy s ... Which was identical to nexus s
I would prefer touchwiz...
More features and stability and also good battery life
I have tried so many AOSP/AOKP roms... but in the end I keep coming back to stock samsung based rom
AOSP roms are really beautiful and faster when it comes to opening apps. Samsung Stock based roms are just the most appropriate choice for daily use... much better battery life, can share contacts with a car's BT device, faster and better quality camera, much better performances when gaming.
its that much better battery life on stock compared to new kitkat or 4.3 aosp aokp?
stock rom+stock kernel is better then all of others when talking abt battery?
If only there's a ROM with AOSP and TouchWiz together with those latest features from AOSP and TouchWiz .. Hhahaa

Yes it is. All you have to do is to take a debloated stock ROM. Philz kernel is just fine (stock kernel rooted).

Last time I checked, ppl reported few bugs. For example the quick settings bug.
Few months ago I tried an older version, but I came back to stock touchwiz. I had quite a few bugs all over the place (clean install).

Using stock ics wid xposed mods.. Superb for me

that one perfect setup for your S2...

Hi all,
Just posted this thread to share my personal "perfect setup"... probably everyone has one of their own, at least I hope so.
This thread is not to start discussions on which ROM is better or faster or more stable, this thread is about the setup that works for you, that does what you want it to do without any headeaches or frustrations.
I've been flashing all kinds of ROMS over the lifespan of my S2 and always there is that one little thing that bothered me: sometimes bluetooth issues, sometimes GPS not working, sometimes random crashes, often battery life .... to a point where I give up and go back to familiar grounds.
I had again a "flashing-spree" recently, this time kitkat seduced me resulting into many hours of flashing, setting everything up again, trying another ROM and starting all over again and again small and/or bigger inconveniences made me return home : NeatROM lite v5.1 (yes android 4.1.2) with Apollo 4.11 kernel... never had a single crash, lag or thing that didn't work, and all with great battery life (I'm now at 50% battery, 8 hrs since unplugged, 2:30 hrs screen on time, 30 minutes worth of bluetooth calls, ...)
I'm sure there are many other perfect setup's out there, share yours!
cheers
B
Slimsaberkat 4.4.2 1st Rom and Revolution Rom Ux 2nd Rom dualboooted by Dorimanx. This is the best set up for me. Having custom 4.1.2 stock rom then latest 4.4.2 custom kitkat rom.
Dunno if this thread will last, but anyway here's mine.
CM 10.2 nightly + Dorimanx 9.43 with Hue 4.4 theme
Chameleon rom are beast fo me with apolo kernel no bug at all and great battery life

slimsaber 4.3.1 by fusionjack + dorimanx 10.43 latest beta.
ROM A gave me issue. Installed ROM B was perfect for me.. My friend installed ROM A has no issues.. We both are happy... Its better everyone try out different until it suits u well... U just gave title as Perfect setup instead of BEST ROM..
i'm now running 4.4.2 but i don't know why but i have no notify sounds and ringin tones to select dunno why :| need to reach 10 posts to write on the correct thread also
Im currently with SlimSaber, with their stock kernel (had plenty of issues every time i wanted to install a new one)
Feels pretty good to me, fast, plenty of features, good battery life (considering mine is not that well taken care of)
OmniROM
Up to the update on 9th Jan OmniROM has been great, battery performance improved massively since early ones and OTA updates built in!

I have tried few most popular roms for note 3 (even tho its TMO i was using supported ones) and i can tell you that stock lolipop gave me best experience and here is why.
My first rom ever to be flashed was darklord note 5 port by darkera13 and even though it gave me stunning battery idle time it also gave me some bad experiences using camera software which was either poor quality or simply not working when it was needed.
Next I tried s6 port by same developer assuming 5.0.2 base would be much more compatible with our official one but there were some massive memory redraws and weird display brightness bug(screen becomes dim on wakeup).
Since roms above were used as base to other port style roms I dont expect any better from them.(not saying they are bad, contrary, but when stability and reliability is in question ill prefer stock sluggy rom.
I must say that I have never used CM on note 3 so I must leave that to someone else but by the time I am writing this i am using stock and only 5.0 rom provided by TMO on top of lean kernel.(also its massively debloated ).
Cheers,hope it helps!!
AryaMod: Fully featured. Stable. Fluid too (as fluid as stock), and believe some features are really handy, like the alarm notification on lock screen which Samsung omitted from Lollipop. Just use it without Xposed, and you are good to go.

Try tazzy-aurora note 5 port with darklord kernel 1.5 & LS speed mod. Everything works fine and it's really fast with good battery life.
I flashed the s6 settings + stock ui mod (extra mods) and i'm really happy with. Also no camera flickering with darklord kernel

AryaMod IMO is by far the best Lollipop TW based experience available. I tried literally every single rom from here for 5.0 and nothing compares to Arya when it comes to stability, usage, battery... I highly recommend it!
Always back to cyanogemod CM12.1 = quick, slim, reliable. Only negative is of course the lack of s pen, but you got some third party apps for that.
Used to be great fan of miui, however they are now getting less popular by making their new MIUI 7 lollipop based, which is a sad thing.
