(FIX) just made another Wi-Fi fix, take a look - Xperia SP General

Well, guess what guys, I've just bought this phone, and one of my neighbours gave his Wi-Fi password to me. His house was only 70 meters away from mine, but even in front of the house the Xperia SP couldn't see the wi-fi connection.
So, I discovered that it's one particular issue of this device. I have found one tutorial explaining how to edit system file to get good Internet connection. It's about modifying one line on the path /system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/ WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini
The line says:
"#Enable BMPS
gEnableBMPS=1"
I don't know what this bmps stuff is about. I Just know it didn't make any difference for me.
So I took a Look on the file and I've found this line.
"Phy mode (auto, b, g, n, etc)
gDot11Mode=0"
I put it on auto, and know I can get signal from the corner of my house.
I also edited another line
"# Data inactivity timeout when in power save (in ms)
gDatsInactivityTimeout=200"
I thought out explains the disconnections when battery is low and the signal is poor, so I put it in 600.
I don't know which one has taken effect, but if before tweaking them I had to be in front of the neighbor's door to get a very poor connection, now I have stable connection with a good ping and half of their total bandwith (about 3Mbps) even 70 meters far from their house
PS: the bmps feature is still disabled, but once I've modded the other lines it worked beautifully.
One other thing, if this file do **** your device, you suck, not me.
Thanks

Well, Ive made lots of tests andI found that:
1- Is the BMPS feature what really enhances the wi-fi signal, not the others.
2- Though, it doesn't makes our wi-fi perfect, one of my friends has a samsung device which works much better.
3- Best way to enhance wi-fi is by puting some custom ROM, and it still somewhat unstable.
That's all, and sorry for the topic, it wasn't really necessary

[ZIP]Orange UK ICS signal boost!

alcurtis93 said:
I thought i would create a new CMW flashable zip for people on orange uk moving to Custom Roms, or even those who are on generic firmware but don't have this capibilty.
It basically enables Signal boost technology (UMA) for Galaxy S devices when in low signal areas.
This CMW zip works perfectly. This zip is tried and tested on most roms
However Give me and others feedback on if this works for you on other Rom's.
Remember this is Orange Network only!
Find the zip attached.
Just flash in recovery.

Wow - this should be excellent! I was disappointed it wasn't compatible with signal boost out of the box!!
Has anyone tried this on an S3 yet?

Can anyone confirm if this works on the S3? Bought this S3 today after being told instore that it features the Signal Boost software only to get it home and find out I had been lied to . Signal at home is terrible. So I'll have to take the phone back if I can't get this sorted.

I have just flashed this onto my S3 however no signal boost appears to have been installed. Unless I have done something wrong then I can confirm that it does not work for the S3.

Ok, so I have managed to install the app by extracting the package and installing the apk. However when I open the signal boost app it immediately force closes.

Ok. I'll try that now mate. I presume that you have the app fully working? I'd be ovr the moon.
Ok, so I've managed to get the app installed and openable. I have enabled signal boost and I have the orange house icon in the top left of the screen however I am unable to make calls when I have no mobile network coverage. It seems that the app isn't correctly routing the calls.
Just to warn you, this app causes crazy wake locks and ruins of battery life, only use it if you really need to!

I'm getting somewhere now. I can now get the green house icon to turn green which gives me a "signal boost". Great for texting, however when I make or receive a call the signal and or app just drops leaving me with no signal. It then restarts after about a minute and goes green again. Any suggestions?
Bump i would like to use this, or is there a orange stock rom with it on?

My hope is that orange soon release a version with signal boost in so that I don't have to start writing code and can just tear the files straight out. Fingers crossed

phone was brand new in the box
looked legit
had all the right hardware specs and software and all packaged as expected
however
started looking at a few things in details for example the imei
there are a few websites where you can query your imei and see what output it gets
mine showed some other brand and model of phone
leading me to believe my phone is one of those cheap replicas

On the side note, this occurs in latest stable Chrome, latest dev build chrome, as well as latest stable FireFox.
I never click the link to log out, I just close the tab/window. And it appears to be quite random too, that I must reenter my credentials.
Thoughts? Solutions?

[Q] WhatsApp last seen..

Ok this maybe a silly question so tolerate the post.. ... One irritating thing about whatsapp is the last seen feature ( atleast in few cases )
I know there are a few apps which block this by blocking data access when u r in whatsapp....
Was looking @Logs in data folder and there was info about my last seen etc... There must be some code which enables whatsapp to access the time right ???
Is there any patch that can be installed to deny this?? ( no last seen feature) .....

THINK I know the culprit then, Movietube.
It wants to access your identity yet doesn't let you block it via app ops. only location.
