I have just received a message from a contact called "work" even though I don't have a contact called "work" saying I have a picture message
I darnt open the link as it's freaky enough I got a message from a contact I don't have.
Plus I am currently unemployed so it can't be "work"
Please does anyone know what this is? Could it be a virus? How?

OK thanks. Any idea how they knew my name :S my partners nexus 5 got the same text with her name
Either someone you know playing with you or you have computer or phone virus and they extracted numbers from your contact list

There was an app last year (can't remember the name), that uploaded people's phone books and sold them on to third parties. Quite possible that someone you know installed it.

THINK I know the culprit then, Movietube.
It wants to access your identity yet doesn't let you block it via app ops. only location.
But then again, I don't understand why only me and my girlfriend got the text.
I uninstalled it anyway, everything I have on my device is now legal lol.

Can't this be done with Google Now? Seems like it would be a feature.

I have been wanting something like this as well.
To have an application to do this though, you would have to have two parts two it.
First part would be an app on your Android device, and the other part would be something that runs on a computer @ the house.
Reason for this is because you would want a secure connection between your phone and the app. Otherwise, anyone/everyone would be able to access your home automation system.
If there is anything like this, that would be awesome, but I don't think there is
The closest thing you can get to it is HomeSeer, but it isn't voice activated. It's only buttons.
If anyone knows of a program that would do voice activation home automation, please let me know!
Hi folks,
hopefully someone can help me.
For a long time now, I'm looking for an app which can send and recieve short messages (not SMS!!) from an on your PC. A simular App would be Chrome to Phone but not only for links but messages in general as well as the ability to recieve messages from your phone on your PC.
For Example, I want to use it for the following situations:
- you want to (quickly) share a link you have found on your PC with your Whatsapp mates.
- you have recieved a link / name or just something on your phone and want to google it on your PC
- you want to call a number which is displayed on you PC
Does any of you guys knwos an app or a solution for this case? I know that Android Lost uses a message service called message popup. Hoever it isn't really intuitive for this kind of usage.
Maybe someone has an idea...
Big Thanks

Talking bout the Android Device ID or something different? (Titanium Backup usually lets you generate a new one, or restore one from a previous backup).

When I get work emails from co workers it says the type of phone they are using. When they get one from me it says android and some numbers. It's the mobile device ID

Where exactly does it say this, maybe you're thinking of email signatures or such, and it would depend on the type of email client. Normally your actual android device ID isn't just arbitrarily transmitted in an email.

It's not a signature and it's not the android device ID, they don't match. My work email pulls it off the phone. It even shows it when I set up the email. I did some research and that's how I found out it's called a mobile device ID.

So you're using an app specific for work then I'm guessing. If you got access to the original rom where the ID is correct, you can install titanium backup from the play store there. Then backup the settings (under preference there's a way to save the titanium backup settings to the SD Card/media space), then restore new rom, install titanium backup again, point it to the sdcard/external for it's backup, and you may be prompted with a prompt that your android ID differs from the other, and given the opportunity to restore it from backup (however bear in midn you may have to reinstall some applications that are dependent on your new ID).
There may be an easier way, but it's just weird that you have a work email that would work based off that.
It's not a host name I just tried that too.

That looks very much like a setting you jsut set in the app/email client. Just like the iPhone has that, it's in the settings. What email client are you using, should be just like the XDA/Tapatalk app where you can modify the manual signature.

Oh just the standard ol email app. Double check the settings of that app , On the message list -> menu -> settings -> Tap account -> Signature
(by default nothing shows in the signature area when I send myself a test email thru my yahoo account, nor nothing in the mail headers to designate operating system)
Unless of course you're saying that it's being performed serverside.
How about in developers options their is one called device hostname and it can be edited, by default my devices all say Android-some random numbers and letters.

The mobile device id is different in the Stock email app vs the touchwiz email app. Anyone know how to change the stock mobile device id?
My Nexus 4 was stolen a few hours back.. I have activated the android device manager but I had only activated the remote ring option. The remote lock and wipe options aren't activated.. As I see this options are greyed out...
Now what I am requesting help here is:
1. If the thief changes the Sim card, can I still track the location of phone using device manager? I called Google helpline and they confirmed this but I am not sure if they understood my question correctly.
2. All my Google and other passwords are saved on the device. So if I change my Google account password, can I still access the android device manager remotely?
I couldn't find these specific answers online hence creating this new thread... Any inputs are appreciated!

If you use Android Device Manager you should be able to see where the device is right now.
Adm won't show where my stolen phone is. I can make it ring apparently, that's it.

That's odd I also read a while back that it should allow you to track it if that doesn't work you can install plan b and do a remote push and then track it! Hurry time is of the essence

Looks like the device is off as the location is not updating. Or is it possible that the @s$%&# has deleted my Google account - will that remove my remote access to the device manager as well?
Also can anybody answer my 2nd question: if I change my Google account password, can I still access the android device manager remotely?

I know that India is far away form Europe, but I'm pretty shure that you have pockets in your trousers, too... And I'm wondering, why you haven't been using them... N4 isn't such big that it can't be hidden in a pocket... I will fight to death if someone will be going to steal my N4

Hi guys
Just installed the MM update for my Note 4. Didn't notice any difference at first, then discovered that Allcast no longer streams to my Xbox DLNA, and also now in the gallery whenever you click on a video it gives you the choice of apps to open it with ONCE then automatically sets that as the default, so if I want to open a video in a different player I now have to go into app manager and clear the defaults. Then I can open with the app I want. But that gets set as default too so it never ends.
This is really REALLY annoying.
Please does anyone know of a fix around this?
Many thanks.

No fix, but an app called 'Better open with'.

+1 for this, been using it for years: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
Basically you set it as the default app for opening a particular file type or link, and then within this app you can choose which other apps are allowed to open said files or links. You can also have a countdown to open with a default choice, giving you a few seconds to choose an alternative.
Been meaning to ask this since I upgraded to MM, always thought that this was a stupid MM feature, but now I see this is a bug right?
Thanks to that app anyway, don't like unnecessary apps, but still better than annoyance caused by waste of time.
It's not a bug, it's a further stupidity from Samsung. You can find this so called feature nobody wants on other devices as well (Note 5 and S7).
Thanks guys. Will try that app out.
This is without doubt the worst software update yet, so much to complain about!
