[Q] USB Debugging Connection Timing Out - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Note 3 initially connects and is seen by the toolkit just fine. A short time after the app to be debugged gets installed and launches, the connection drops back from USB Debugging to Media Device. Is there any way to prevent this?

Connection Dropped When Plugged Into USB

Anyone else having the following issue:
When I connect via USB to something other than a wall outlet (e.g. PC, USB port in Car, etc.), sometimes it seems my wifi or 3g connections stop working. They display like they are working, but none of my apps are able to get anything from the net.
Any ideas what could cause this?
The only way I can recover from the situation is to reboot.
I have only noticed this when connecting the USB to my PC. I had assumed it was due to my tethering that the data was restricted to just the PC. If I notice the same issue when not tethering, I'll update the thread.
having the same issue..
Samsung Vibrant
Rooted
Frankin-Twiz (Eugene373) ROM
lose connection every couple of min when the phone is plugged into the computer via USB. If its plugged into the wall, no problems.
Anyone have any ideas?

Can't Connect to Windows 7 After 3.1 Update

I'm using the Google I/O Limited Edition Samsung Galaxy 10.1" tablet. Connected and developed with the device fine on my Windows 7 machine until the 3.1 update last night.
Now, when plugging in the USB, the new USB debugging icon (the Android bee) shows up in the tablet's tray. However, Windows 7 doesn't find the device. I've tried power cycling my PC and the tablet. I've tried disabling USB debugging several times. I've installed Kies, but it does not successfully install the required drivers. I attempted to install the driver listed on Samsung's page for the device, but it didn't appear to do anything.
I was actively developing an app for tablets, and this has ground my progress to a halt. Anyone else experiencing this? Have a fix?
Have you tried a different USB port (on hub) or a direct USB port on the motherboard?

Yeah, that doesn't do anything.
Well mine wasnt working all i did was take the usb out uncheck usb debuggin and plugged it back in and it worked..
Yeah, I've tried enabling/disabling USB debugging, plugging and unplugging the USB. Still nothing.
Again, the behavior I'm getting is that the tablet is indicating that USB debugging is on when I plug the device in. I get the USB debugging icon in the tablet's system tray. But Windows 7 just isn't seeing it. This sure seems to be a driver issue.
Finally got it working. It took doing a factory reset on the device.
I had to turn off usb debugging, then plug usb back in.... tablet said that I had to disable bluetooth, disabled and it worked pefectly! So could it possibly be a problem with bluetooth!?!?

4.3 Charging Issue - Media Device

Last night I updated to 4.3 via the very useful thread here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848
I was in situation "A" with a completely stock Nexus 4 and the side load went without a hitch. I was able to charge my phone from my wall charger last night with no issue. Today at work I realized that my phone was not charging from my PC via USB cable like it usually does. If I disconnected and reconnected I would see "Charging" on the Battery page for a split second then it would change to "Not Charging" and the phone would notify me that I was connected as a media device.
Trying to troubleshoot the problem I had rebooted the phone and the PC, no luck. I tried turning off the check box that set the phone as a media device and when I unplugged and replugged in my phone it started charging again. To test my theory I turned the "media device" option back on and charging stopped right away. Has anyone else seen this?
Steps to duplicate:
1) Connect phone to PC via USB with Connect as "Media device (MTP)" checked (Settings -> Storage -> Menu -> USB computer connection)
2) See that the phone is not charging.
3) Uncheck "Media device (MTP)"
4) Unplug and replug in USB cable
5) See that the phone is now charging.
6) Re-check "Media device (MTP)"
7) See that phone immediately stops charging.
Not sure if this matters but the PC is running Windows XP. Up until today I have had no issues charging and nothing has changed configuration wise on the PC that I know of.
Thanks,
Eric
A friend of mine just had the problem. It seems that, since 4.3, you can no longer charge if MTP or PTP is activated AND your peripheral is not recognized by the system. I mean, since it is work computers, I assume you do not have privileges to install drivers for your phone. And so, it won't charge until you deactivate the MTP fonction. At home, where your phone is properly recognized and drivers are installed, no problem.
Another solution is to find a "charge only" usb cable, like the ones delivered with external batteries for example. We tried it, and it works also even without deactivate MTP or PTP.
Same Issue. On two different devices out of the box.

I own two Samsung devices and they both have the same issue. I have tried different power cords, different USB 2.0/3.0 slots on a Linux laptop, Windows laptop, Mac Mini and Rasperry Pi, turned on developer mode to no avail. The few things I do see that both devices when plugged into an outlet they say Charging (AC). Once unplugged and plugged into a USB port the nav title bar hides and comes back with the battery icon with a red X and stating discharging. I have yet to find a fix for either.

Not a fix. Just a possiable answer.

Android 4.4.4 CM 11S USB Charging Issue Resolved
Hi,
I had the same problem with my OPO. My previous device was JellyBean and I could charge even when it was connected as Mass Storage.
My new device used to connect as MTP by default and hence would not charge. I charge it from my work PC which has blocked media transfer through USB and that was the real problem. When I uncheck MTP and connect my device, it would charge. Since my Home PC has no such settings there is no problem when I connect it to that.

6P & (no) USB computer connection

Is it just me?
My computer will only see my phone if I plug it in while it (phone) is turned on. If I power on or reboot the phone (while connected via USB) it never shows up. I have to pull the USB cable and plug it back in. I tried multiple computers JIC and same results.
I AM rooted (systemless) if that makes a difference. I guess I'll unroot to see if it has any affect. Hopefully I don't have a bad device.
Rooting shouldn't have any impact. I have to toggle the USB connection type every time I plug into my PC. PTP seems to be the only one that recognizes for ADB. Fastboot works fine.
Thanks Fury, I did notice that as well. MTP would get toggled @ each plug in, but I'm talking actual connection detect not type of connection detected.
Can someone confirm normal operation on their 6P for me. I contacted Google and they are telling me it is working as designed. This would be the first phone that I have owned that is not recognized by a computer during reboot or power on. Charging seems not to be affected, only "data" connectivity...
